1876 नीदरलैंड के लियूवार्डेन में माता हारी का जन्म हुआ। वास्तविक नाम मार्गरेटा गीरट्रुइडा मैकलियोड था। माता हरी से वह विख्यात कामोत्तेजक नर्तकी और वेश्या जिसे प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जर्मनी के लिए जासूस करने के आरोप में फ्रांस में फायरिंग दस्ते द्वारा मार डाला गया।

1904 प्रसिद्ध विद्वान वासुदेव शरण अग्रवाल का जन्म हुआ 

1905 बंगाल विभाजन के खिलाफ भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस ने ब्रिटिश वस्तुओं के बहिष्कार का आंदोलन प्रारंभ किया।

1914 रूस ने पूर्वी प्रशिया पर हमला किया।

1925 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय कृषि वैज्ञानिक एमएस स्वामीनाथन का जन्म कुंभकोणम, केरल में हुआ। मनकोम्बु संबासिवन स्वामिनाथन भारत के आनुवांशिक-विज्ञानी हैं जिन्हें भारत की हरित क्रांति का जनक कहा जाता है। उन्होंने 1966 में मैक्सिको के बीजों को पंजाब की घरेलू किस्मों के साथ मिश्रित करके उच्च उत्पादकता वाले गेहूं के संकर बीज विकिसित किए। इसके लिए वर्ल्ड फूड प्राइज सहित उन्हें बहुत से भारतीय एवं अंतरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार और सम्मान मिले हैं। इसी दिन हिंदी सिनेमा के लोकप्रिय हास्य कलाकार केश्टो मुखर्जी का जन्म हुआ। केष्टो मुखर्जी एक भारतीय अभिनेता और हास्य अभिनेता थे। केश्टो का जन्म कोलकाता, बंगाल प्रेसीडेंसी, ब्रिटिश भारत में हुआ था। केश्टो हिंदी फिल्मों में हास्य, शराबी भूमिकाओं में माहिर थे। हिंदी फिल्मों में अपनी शराबी टाइपकास्ट भूमिका के लिए प्रसिद्ध थे यद्यपि केश्टो ने जीवन भर शराब का सेवन नहीं किया।

1927 फोर्ट एरी, ओंटारियो, कनाडा और बफेलो, न्यूयॉर्क के बीच पीस ब्रिज अर्थात शांति सेतु खोला गया।

1930 हरियाणा के हिसार में ओम प्रकाश जिंदल का जन्म हुआ। ओपी जिंदल के नाम से मशहूर भारत के इस्पात उद्योग के एक बड़े कारोबारी एवं राजनीतिज्ञ थे। वे अपने औद्योगिक समूह जिंदल समूह, जिंदल स्टील एंड पावर, जिंदल स्टेनलेस इत्यादि के संस्थापक तथा हरियाणा के ऊर्जा मंत्री और 11वीं लोकसभा के सदस्य भी रहे।

1933 इराक साम्राज्य ने सिमेले गांव में 3,000 से अधिक असीरियन लोगों की हत्या करवा दी। सिमेले नरसंहार की याद में इस दिन असीरियन समुदाय शहीद दिवस शोक दिवस मनाता है।

1935 महात्मा गांधी और कस्तूरबा गांधी के बेटे देवदास गांधी के पुत्र जाने माने इतिहासकार, बायोग्राफर और रिसर्च प्रोफेसर राजमोहन गांधी का जन्म हुआ।

1938 विख्यात रूसी नाटककार इस्टानिस्ला विस्की का निधन हुआ।

1941 कविंद्र और गुरुदेव कहे गये नोबेल पुरस्कार प्राप्त कवि, लेखक, चित्रकार रवीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर का निधन हुआ।

1944 हार्वर्ड एच. आइकेन ने आईबीएम कंपनी के लिए विकसित 51 फीट लंबाई, 8 फीट ऊंचाई और पांच टन के वजन वाले पहले इलेक्ट्रॉनिक कैलकुलेटर का निर्माण पूर्ण होने के बाद इसे हार्वर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी को सौंपा। हुआ। कंपनी ने उस समय इस प्रोजेक्ट पर 2 लाख डॉलर की राशि खर्च की थी। इसे हार्वर्ड मार्क वन नाम दिया गया। इस कैलकुलेटर में 78 छोटी-छोटी मशीनें लगी थीं। 1 लाख 75 हजार एडॉप्टर, 500 मील लंबाई के वायर लगे थे। कैलकुलेटर में डेटा एंट्री के लिए 24 स्वीच के 60 सेट होते थे जो एक बार में 72 संख्याओं को स्टोर कर सकते थे। एक सेकेंड में कैलकुलेटर 3 एडिशन या सब्ट्रेक्शन कर सकता था। किसी भी संख्या को मल्टीप्लाई करने में 6 सेकेंड का समय लगता था और डिवाइड करने के लिए 15 सेकेंड लगते थे।

1947 मुंबई नगर निगम को बिजली और परिवहन व्यस्था औपचारिक रूप से हस्तांतरित हुई।

1951 सुरेश बुधरमल कलाणी का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के उल्हासनगर में हुआ। पप्पू कालाणी के नाम से विख्यात, कुख्यात भारतीय आपराधिक-राजनेता हैं। 1980 के दशक में एक संगठित अपराध सिंडिकेट के नेता के रूप में उभरने के बाद वे 1986 में उल्हासनगर नगर पालिका परिषद के अध्यक्ष निर्वाचित हुए।

1955 जाने माने हिंदी, मराठी, कोंकणी, उड़िया, भोजपुरी आदि भाषाओं के फिल्मी गीत गायक सुरेश वाडेकर का जन्म कोल्हापुर में हुआ।

1958 बंगलौर में महेश दत्ताणी का जन्म हुआ। महेश प्रसिद्ध भारतीय नाटककार, रंगमंच व फिल्म निर्देशक हैं। वह अंग्रेजी के विख्यात साहित्यकार हैं। इनके द्वारा रचित एक नाटक फाइनल सॉल्यूशन्स एंड अदर प्लेज के लिये उन्हें सन् 1998 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1960 अफ्रीकी महाद्वीपीय देश आइवरी कोस्ट को फ्रांस के अधिकार से आजादी मिली।

1966 अमेरिका के लैंसिंग, मिशिगन में नस्लभेदी दंगे भडके।

1969 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रिचर्ड निक्सन ने मोहॉक-ओगला सिओक्स और अमेरिकी भारतीयों की राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के सह-संस्थापक लुइस आर. ब्रूस को भारतीय मामलों के ब्यूरो का आयुक्त नियुक्त किया।

1972 युगांडा के तानाशाह इदी अमीन ने एशियाई मूल के लोगों को 90 दिन के भीतर देश छोड़कर चले जाने का आदेश दिया।

1974 फिलिप पेटिट ने 1,368 फीट (417 मीटर) हवा में वर्ल्ड ट्रेड सेंटर के जुड़वां टावरों के बीच एक हाई वायर एक्ट यानी रस्सी पर चलने का करतब किया।

1978 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जिमी कार्टर ने लापरवाही से निपटाए गए जहरीले कचरे के कारण लव कैनाल में संघीय आपातकाल की घोषणा की।

1975 दक्षिण अफ्रीका की विख्यात फिल्म अभिनेत्री चार्लीज थेरोन का जन्म हुआ।

1976 चौथी लोकसभा के सदस्य पी. सी. अदिचन का निधन हुआ

1980 जानी मानी टेलीविजन और फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल नंदिनी सिंह का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ। इन्होंने अपने फिल्म अभिनय की यात्रा बाल कलाकार के रूप में फिल्म जुंबिश से 1986 में शुरु की।

1984 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बांग्ला एवं उड़िया फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल वर्षा प्रियदर्शिनी का जन्म कटक में हुआ।

1985 विश्व अमेचर बिलियड्र्स चैंपियनशिप जीतने वाले गीत सेठी तीसरे भारतीय बने।

1986 जानी मानी फिल्म, टेलीविजन एवं स्टेज गायिका आकृति कक्कड़ का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। उनके गाये फिल्म हम्प्टी शर्मा की दुल्हनिया के सैटरडे सैटरडे और 2 स्टेट्स के इस्की उसकी गाने काफी लोकप्रिय हुए। आकृति जी बांग्ला के सा रे गा मा पा लिटिल चैंप्स में और कलर्स के झलक दिखला जा में जज रहीं।

1990 जानी मानी भोजपुरी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल अंजना सिंह का जन्म बहराइच, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका ने सऊदी अरब में सेना तैनात कर ऑपरेशन डेजर्ट शील्ड की शुरूआत की।

1992 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर दीपक चाहर का जन्म आगरा में हुआ। दीपक लोकेंद्र सिंह चाहर प्रथम श्रेणी क्रिकेट के खिलाड़ी है जो घरेलू क्रिकेट में राजस्थान के लिए खेलते हैं। ये आधिकारिक तौर पर मध्यम गति के तेज गेंदबाज हैं जो पहले इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग में मुंबई इंडियंस की टीम का हिस्सा थे और अब इन्हें चेन्नई सुपर किंग्स ने खरीद लिया है।

1999 पाकिस्तानी प्रधानमंत्री नवाज शरीफ ने एक बार फिर भारत से वार्ता की पेशकश की।

2000 रूसी राष्ट्रपति ब्लादिमीर पुतिन ने एक कानून पर हस्ताक्षर कर अपनी शक्तियों को और बढ़ा लिया।

2002 इंटरनेशनल फंड फार एनिमल वेलफेयर ने पहली बार अंतरराष्ट्रीय बिल्ली दिवस मनाया। यह दिवस बिल्लियों के प्रति जनजागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए, बिल्लियों के संरक्षण इत्यादि के लिए है। 

2003 बगदाद में जार्डन दूतावास के बाहर हुए कार बम विस्फोट में 12 लोगों की मृत्यु।

2005 इस्रायल के वित्तमंत्री बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू ने अपने पद से इस्तीफा दिया।

2008 भारत के सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के देना बैंक ने अपनी ब्याज दरें 0.75 प्रतिशत बढ़ाकर 14.25 प्रतिशत करने की घोषणा की। सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के कार्पोरेशन बैंक ने अपनी बेंचमार्क ब्याज दर में 0.50 प्रतिशत बढ़ोतरी किए जाने की घोषणा की।

2009 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी फिल्म गीतकार गीतकार गुलशन बावरा यानी गुलशन कुमार मेहता का निधन हुआ

2012 नाइजीरिया के ओकेन में चर्च में तीन बंदूकधारियों ने हमला कर 19 लोगों की हत्या की।

2013 पाकिस्तान के कराची शहर में बाजार में हुए बम विस्फोट में 11 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2015 फ्रांसिस कैथलीन ओल्डम केल्सी का निधन हुआ। केल्सी कनाडाई-अमेरिकी फार्माकोलॉजिस्ट और चिकित्सक थीं और अमेरिकी खाद्य एवं औषधि प्रशासन के समीक्षक के पद पर रहते हुए उन्होंने बाजार के लिए थैलिडोमाइड दवा को अधिकृत करने से इनकार कर दिया क्योंकि उन्हें दवा की सुरक्षा के संबंध में सबूतों की कमी मिली। इस पर उन्हें राष्ट्रपति पुरस्कार मिला। इसी दिन भारत ने राष्ट्रीय हथकरघा दिवस का आयोजन किया।

2018 तमिलनाडु की राजनीती के भीष्म पितामह कहे गये एम करुणानिधि का देहांत हुआ। इसी दिन स्वीडन के मशहूर फर्नीचर ब्रांड आइकिया ने भारत में अपना पहला स्टोर शुरू किया।

2020 एयर इंडिया एक्सप्रेस का विमान 1344 भारत के केरल के मलप्पुरम जिले में कालीकट अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर रनवे से फिसल गया जिससे विमान में सवार 190 लोगों में से 21 की मौत हो गई।

2022 उत्तर प्रदेश के अयोध्या स्थित अयोध्या विकास प्राधिकरण ने अपने क्षेत्र में अवैध रूप से भूखंड बेचने और उन पर निर्माण कार्य कराने वाले 40 लोगों की सूची जारी की। अवैध भूमि खरीद में अयोध्या के महापौर ऋषिकेश उपाध्याय और भारतीय जनता पार्टी विधायक वेद प्रकाश गुप्ता भी शामिल हैं। प्राधिकरण उपाध्यक्ष विशाल सिंह ने रविवार को केंद्र सरकार के नियंत्रण वाली समाचार एजेंसी पीटीआई भाषा को बताया कि प्राधिकरण द्वारा शनिवार रात प्राधिकरण क्षेत्र में अवैध रूप से जमीन की खरीद और बिक्री निर्माण कार्य कराने वाले 40 लोगों की एक सूची जारी की गई। उन्होंने कहा कि सूची में शामिल इन सभी लोगों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

He developed high yielding wheat hybrids in 1966 by mixing seeds from Mexico with domestic varieties from Punjab. For this, he has received many Indian and international awards and honors including the World Food Prize. On this day Keshto Mukherjee, a popular comedian of Hindi cinema, was born. Keshto Mukherjee was an Indian actor and comedian. Keshto was born in Kolkata, Bengal Presidency, British India. Keshto specialized in comic, boozy roles in Hindi films. Known for his alcoholic typecast roles in Hindi films, Keshto did not consume alcohol throughout his life.

2022 The Ayodhya Development Authority, located in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, released a list of 40 people who illegally sold plots in their area and got construction work done on them. Ayodhya mayor Hrishikesh Upadhyay and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ved Prakash Gupta are also involved in the illegal land purchase. Authority vice-chairman Vishal Singh told the central government-controlled news agency PTI on Sunday that the authority issued a list of 40 people involved in illegal purchase and sale of land in the authority area on Saturday night. He said that action will be taken against all these people included in the list.
