1559 मुगल शहंशाह अबुल फतेह जलालुद्दीन मोहम्मद अकबर के पुत्र इतिहास में बहुचर्चित शहजादे जहाँगीर यानी नूरुद्दीन मोहम्मद सलीम का जन्म फतेहपुर सीकरी में हुआ। जहाँगीर अकबर के जेष्ठ पुत्र थे। मुराद और दानियाल उनके छोटे भाई थे। कहते हैं कि मुराद और दानियाल बादशाह अकबर के जीते जी अत्यधिक शराब सेवन से मर चुके थे। जहांगीर का प्रथम विवाह 1585 में मानबाई से हुआ जो आमेर के राजा भगवानदास की पुत्री व मान सिंह की बहन थी। सलीम का दूसरा विवाह मारवाड़ के राजा उदयसिंह की पुत्री जगतगोसाई से हुआ।

1659 मुगल बादशाह मुहिउद्दीन मोहम्मद औरंगजेब के आदेश पर उसके बड़े भाई दारा शिकोह की हत्या का आदेश दिए जाने के बाद कारिंदों ने दारा का कटा हुआ सिर थाल में रुमाल से ढककर औरंगजेब के समक्ष प्रस्तुत किया।

1682 सुविख्यात ब्रिटिश इसाई मिशनरी विलियम पेन ने इंग्लैंड से अमेरिका के लिए प्रस्थान किया और बाद में उन्होंने वहां पेनसिल्वेनिया कॉलोनी की स्थापना की।

1918 फैनी एफिमोव्ना कपलान एक रूसी यहूदी महिला, समाजवादी-क्रांतिकारी और प्रारंभिक सोवियत असंतुष्ट सोवियत समाजवादी क्रांति के नायक व्लादिमीर इल्यिच लेनिन की हत्या के प्रयास के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया था और 1918 में एक आयोग चेका के निर्णय के बाद फैनी की हत्या कर दी गई। सोशलिस्ट रिवोल्यूशनरी पार्टी के सदस्य के रूप में फैनी कपलान ने लेनिन को क्रांति के गद्दार बताया था जब बोल्शेविकों ने एक-पक्षीय शासन लागू किया और फैनी की पार्टी पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया। 30 अगस्त, 1918 को लेनिन जब मॉस्को की एक फैक्ट्री से निकल रहे लेनिन के पास पहुंची और तीन गोलियां चलाईं, जिससे वह बुरी तरह घायल हो गए। चेका द्वारा पूछताछ करने पर उसने किसी भी साथी का नाम बताने से इनकार कर दिया और उसे मार दिया गया।

1923 रावलपिंडी, पाकिस्तान में प्रख्यात हिंदी फिल्मी गीतकार शैलेंद्र का जन्म हुआ। शंकरदास केसरीलाल शैलेंद्र हिंदी, उर्दू कवि, गीतकार और फिल्म निर्माता थे। फिल्म निर्माता राज कपूर, गायक मुकेश और संगीतकार शंकर-जयकिशन के साथ अपने संबंध के लिए प्रसिद्ध शैलेंद्र ने 1950 और 1960 के दशक में कई सफल हिंदी फिल्म गीतों के लिए गीत लिखे। 1923 में इसी दिन उत्तर पूर्वी टर्क और केको के उष्णकटीबंधीय क्षेत्र में आए भयंकर आँधी - तूफान ने जबरदस्त कहर ढाया।

1928 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रास बिहारी बोस और जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने द इंडिपेंडेंस ऑफ इंडिया लीग की स्थापना की। इसका मकसद प्रवासी भारतीयों को भारत में ब्रिटिश राज हटाने के लिए प्रेरित करना था।

1935 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रूजवेल्ट की पहल पर वेल्थ टैक्स अधिनियम के द्वारा छोटे व्यवसायों पर कर कम करते हुए अमीर नागरिकों और बड़े व्यवसायों पर अधिक कर लगाया गया।

1974 तीसरा विश्व जनसंख्या सम्मेलन रोमानिया के बुखारेस्ट में समाप्त हुआ। समारोह के अंत में संयुक्त राष्ट्र-रोमानियाई जनसांख्यिकी केंद्र का उद्घाटन किया गया।

1976 नॉटिंग हिल कार्निवल में हुए दंगे में दो सौ से ज्यादा पुलिसकर्मी जख्मी हो गए। इसी दिन खूबसूरत, जानी मानी हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल चित्रांग्दा सिंह का जन्म जोधपुर में हुआ।

1980 हिंदी सहित विभिन्न दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं की फिल्मों की अभिनेत्री और माॅडल रिचा पैलोड का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने क्रिकेटर सुब्रमण्यम बद्रीनाथ का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1981 ईरान के राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद अली राजई और प्रधानमंत्री मोहम्मद जावद बहोनार की पीपुल्स मुजाहिदीन ऑफ ईरान ने बमबारी कर हत्या कर दी और इसी दिन 1981 में दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की प्रमुख फिल्म निमात्री स्वप्ना दत्त का जन्म विजयवाड़ा में हुआ।

1982 फिलिस्तीनी मुक्ति संगठन के नेता यासिर अराफात ने लेबनान की राजधानी बेरुत स्थित मुख्यालय को एक दशक के बाद छोड़ दिया। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेता एवं माॅडल राजबीर सिंह का जन्म पठानकोट, पंजाब में हुआ।

1994 जानी मानी दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नंदिता राज का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1999 पूर्वी तिमोर के निवासियों ने इंडोनेशिया से आजादी के लिए भारी मतदान किया। संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने चार सितंबर को परिणाम की घोषणा की।

2001 युगोस्लाविया के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति स्लोबदान मिलोसेविच के खिलाफ युद्ध अपराधों के मामले में आरोप तय किए गए। इसी दिन नई यूरो मुद्रा फ्रैंकफर्ट, जर्मनी में पेश की गई।

2002 ताइवान में भूकम्प के जबरदस्त झटके महसूस किये गए। इसी दिन कोनोको इंक और फिलिप्स पेट्रोलियम ने विलय कर कोनोकोफिलिप्स बनायी। यह अमेरिका की तीसरी सबसे बड़ी एकीकृत ऊर्जा कंपनी और दूसरी सबसे बड़ी रिफाइनिंग कंपनी बनी।

2003 समाजवादी पार्टी के नेता मुलायम सिंह यादव तीसरी बार उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री बने।

2007 बांग्लादेश सरकार ने नोबेल पुरस्कार प्राप्त मुहम्मद युनुस के सम्मान में डाक टिकट जारी किया। इसी दिन 2007 में जर्मनी के 2 वैज्ञानिक गुंटर निमित्ज और आल्फोंस स्टालहोफेन ने अल्बर्ट आइंसटीन के सापेक्षता के सिद्धान्त को गलत ठहराने का दावा किया। नेपाल की कोईराला सरकार ने चार माओवादी विद्रोहियों को फ्रांस, डेनमार्क,ऑस्ट्रेलिया और मलेशिया का राजदूत नियुक्त किया।

2008 उद्योग घराने बिरला के प्रख्यात भारतीय उद्योगपति कृष्ण कुमार बिड़ला का निधन हुआ।

2009 भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन इसरो ने चंद्रयान प्रथम औपचारिक रूप से समाप्त कर दिया। इसी दिन आतंकी संगठन अल कायदा ने सऊदी राजकुमार, मुहम्मद बिन नायफ की हत्या की कोशिश की जिम्मेदारी स्वीकारी।

2014 प्रसिद्ध इतिहासज्ञ बिपिन चंद्र का निधन हुआ। प्रोफेसर बिपिन चंद्र भारत के स्वतंत्रता संघर्ष और आधुनिक इतिहास लेखन परंपरा में मार्क्सवादी चिंतन धारा के इतिहासकार थे। इसी दिन दक्षिण अफ्रीकी देश लेसोथो के प्रधानमंत्री टॉम थबाने सेना द्वारा तख्तापलट के प्रयासों के बाद दक्षिण अफ्रीका भाग गये।

2019 लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी डांसर, अभिनेत्री, माॅडल एवं लेखिका वैलेरी हार्पर का लास एंजेल्स में निधन हुआ।

भारत 30 अगस्त को लघु उद्योग दिवस मनाता है। लघु उद्योग दिवस लघु उद्योगों को बढ़ावा देने और बेरोजगार को रोजगार के अवसर उपलब्ध कराने के उद्देश्य से मनाया जाता है। स्वरोजगार और रोजगार के लिए लघु उद्योग सदियों से बड़ा जरिया रहे हैं। आजाद भारत में नेहरू सरकार और बाद की अन्य सरकारों ने इन्हें खूब प्रोत्साहन दिया लेकिन वर्तमान मोदी सरकार स्वरोजगार और रोजगार के विरुद्ध काम कर रही है। इसके करने में तमाम तरह के रोड़े अटकाए जा रहे हैं।
