1818 राधा स्वामी सत्संग ब्यास आध्यात्मिक मत के संस्थापक श्री सेठ शिव दयाल सिंह का जन्म आगरा में हुआ।

1819 विश्व विख्यात स्कॉटिश आविष्कारक जेम्स वॉट का निधन हुआ था। उन्होंने उबलते पानी से उठने वाली भाप की शक्ति का अनुमान लगाया और भाप इंजन निर्माण में योगदान दिया।

1864 जाने माने भारतीय बैरिस्टर और जैन धर्म के विद्वान वीरचंद राघवजी गांधी का जन्म गुजरात में हुआ। इन्होंने विश्व धर्म संसद में शिकागो, अमेरिका में 1893 में जैन धर्म का प्रतिनिधित्व किया, जिसमें रामकृष्ण परमहंस के शिष्य विवेकानंद ने हिंदू धर्म पर अपना वक्तव्य दिया था। जिसको हिंदुत्वादी बहुत महान घटना बताते हैं। यह अलग बात है कि ब्राह्मणों ने विवेकानंद को हिंदू धर्म का प्रतिनिधित्व देने से इन्कार कर दिया था, क्योंकि वे हिंदू धर्म की निम्न श्रेणी में आते थे, कायस्थ थे।

1867 जगत विख्यात भौतिकी विज्ञानी और रसानशास्त्री और मुख्यतः बिजली के विकासकर्ता माइकल फैराडे का निधन हुआ।

1888 पाकिस्तान के गणितज्ञ, तर्कवादी, राजनीतिक सिद्धांतवादी, इस्लामी विद्वान और खाकसार आंदोलन के संस्थापक अल्लामा मशरिकी का निधन हुआ।

1926 पाँचवीं लोकसभा के सदस्य बाबूराव काले का जन्म हुआ।

1940 लिथुआनिया, लातविया और एस्तोनिया सोवियत संघ में शामिल हुए।

1945 जाने माने इतिहास विशेषज्ञ, प्रखर वक्ता, आलोचक, समीक्षक, मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता राम पुनयानी का जन्म हुआ। यह बायोमेडिकल इंजीनियरिंग के प्रोफेसर रहे और इंडियन इंस्टीट्यूट आॅफ टैक्नोलौजी बंबई के वरिष्ठ मेडिकल अफसर रहे। 1945 में इसी दिन जापान द्वारा आत्मसमर्पण की घोषणा के साथ द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध समाप्त होने के दस दिन बाद, चीनी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के हथियारबंद समर्थकों ने अमेरिकी खुफिया अधिकारी जॉन बिर्च की हत्या कर दी। इस घटना को कुछ अमेरिकी दक्षिणपंथियों ने शीत युद्ध की पहली बड़ी घटना करार दिया।

1972 प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार हरिभाऊ उपाध्याय का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म निर्माता, राव एंड सपरू फिल्म कंपनी के मालिक, फिल्म कारोबारी विनय सपरू का जन्म हुआ।

1973 तमिलनाडु के तिरुवैयारू में नित्यश्री महादेवन (एस नित्यश्री) का जन्म हुआ। नित्यश्री कर्नाटक शास्त्रीय संगीतकार और प्रमुख गायिका हैं। उन्होंने कई भाषाओं में भारतीय फिल्मों में गाने गाए हैं। नित्यश्री ने भारत के सभी बड़े स्थानों पर प्रदर्शन किया है। उन्होंने 3 एल्बम जारी हुए हैं।

1980 जाने माने भारतीय उद्यमी, यूट्यूबर और लेखक अंकुर वारीकू का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन जिम्बाब्वे संयुक्त राष्ट्र में शामिल हुआ।

1984 बंबई में जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री, नृत्यांगना और माॅडल डैसी शाह का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन मलयालम सिनेमा की अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल रोमा असरानी का जन्म तिरुचिरापल्ली में हुआ।

1987 मोनिका के नाम से लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड तमिल फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल एम. जी. रहीमा या रेखा मारुतिराज का जन्म तिरुनेलवेली में हुआ। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध स्कॉटिश गायक-गीतकार और गिटारवादक एमी मैकडोनाल्ड का जन्म हुआ।

1988 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल वैष्णवी धनराज का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ। इसी दिन ईरान और इराक के बीच युद्ध के बाद सीधी बातचीत का दौर शुरू हुआ।

1991 बेलारूस सोवियत संघ से अलग होकर स्वतंत्र देश बना। इसी दिन क्रिस लुईस ने 9.86 सेकंड मे 100 मीटर दौड़ पूरी करके रिकॉर्ड बनाया था, जिसे बाद में उसैन बोल्ट ने तोड़ा।

1992 एक ब्रिटिश अखबार ने राजकुमारी डायना की बातचीत का ब्योरा जारी किया, जिसमें उन्होंने प्रिंस से शादी पर नाखुशी जाहिर की थी।

1994 हरियाणा के भिवानी जिले के बलाली गांव में भारत की जानी मानी महिला पहलवान विनेश फौगाट का जन्म हुआ।

1997 मासूमा इब्तेकार ईरान की पहली महिला उपराष्ट्रपति नियुक्त की गईं।

2001 लंदन में आस्ट्रेलिया के लेग स्पिनर शेनवार्न टेस्ट क्रिकेट के इतिहास में 400 विकेट लेने वाले पहले स्पिन गेंदबाज बने। इसी दिन अमेरिकी गायिका आलिया और टीम के तमाम सदस्यों की मौत हुई, कारण, विमान मार्श हार्बर एयरपोर्ट, द बहामास से उड़ने के बाद दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया। बताया गया कि विमान में जरूरत से ज्यादा वजन हो गया था।

2003 मुंबई के गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया और मुंबा देवी मंदिर के पास हुए कार बम विस्फोट में 50 से अधिक लोगों की मौत और 150 से अधिक लोग घायल हुए।

2006 कोलंबिया में पहला कानूनी गर्भपात हुआ। लंबे आंदोलन, महीनों तक कानूनी बहस के बाद अदालतों ने तय किया कि गर्भपात देश में उन स्थितियों में कानूनी हो सकता है, जहाँ माँ की सेहत खतरे में है, गर्भ बलात्कार का परिणाम है, या भ्रूण गंभीर रूप से विकृत है।

2011 मैक्सिकन आपराधिक, ड्रग सिंडिकेट और आतंकवादी संगठन लॉस जेटास के सदस्यों द्वारा मेक्सिको के नुएवो लियोन के मॉन्टेरी कैसीनो में की गई आगजनी के दौरान बावन लोग मारे गए। इसी दिन श्रीलंका की सरकार ने देश में घोषित आपातकाल 30 वर्ष बाद समाप्त किया।

2012 वोयेजर 1 सौरमंडल से बाहर अंतरिक्ष में दाखिल होने वाला पहला मानवनिर्मित यान बना था। इसी दिन चाँद पर कदम रखने वाले दुनिया के पहले अंतरिक्ष यात्री नील आर्मस्ट्रांग का निधन हुआ।

2014 विलियम ग्रीव्स, अमेरिकी निर्देशक और निर्माता, मार्सेल मैसे, कनाडाई शिक्षक और राजनीतिज्ञ, 29वें कनाडाई राष्ट्रीय रक्षा मंत्री, निको एम. एम. निब्बरिंग, डच रसायनज्ञ और अकादमिक, उजिया थॉम्पसन, जमैका-अमेरिकी ड्रमर और फिल्म निर्माता एवं एनरिक जिलेरी, पेरू के प्रसिद्ध पत्रकार और प्रकाशक का निधन हुआ।

2015 जोस मारिया बेनेगास, स्पेनिश वकील और राजनीतिज्ञ फ्रांसिस सेजर्स्टेड, प्रसिद्ध नॉर्वेजियन इतिहासकार और अकादमिक का निधन हुआ।

2016 मार्विन कपलान, लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेता का निधन हुआ।

2018 भारत के शॉटपुट एथलीट तेजिंदरपाल सिंह तूर ने जकार्ता एशियाई खेलों में रिकार्ड प्रदर्शन कर स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त किया।

2019 प्रसिद्ध ऑस्ट्रियाई बिजनेस मैग्नेट, रईस और इंजीनियर फर्डिनेंड पिच का निधन हुआ।

2022 कांग्रेस नेत्री प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा ने 25 अगस्त को गुजरात दंगों की पीड़िता बिल्कीस बानो के लिए न्याय की मांग की और कहा कि 2002 के सामूहिक बलात्कार व उनके परिवार के सात लोगों की हत्या के मामले में दोषी करार दिए गए 11 लोगों की रिहाई पर सरकार ने चुप्पी साधकर अपना रुख स्पष्ट कर दिया है। गुजरात सरकार की माफी नीति के तहत पिछले दिनों 15 अगस्त को गोधरा उप कारागार से 11 दोषियों को रिहा किया गया था। प्रियंका ने एक ट्वीट में कहा कि बलात्कार की सजा पा चुके 11 लोगों की रिहाई, कैमरे पर उनके स्वागत-समर्थन में बयानबाजी पर चुप्पी साधकर सरकार ने अपनी लकीर खींच दी है। लेकिन देश की महिलाओं को संविधान से आस है। संविधान अंतिम पंक्ति में खड़ी महिला को भी न्याय के लिए संघर्ष का साहस देता है। बिल्किस बानो को न्याय दो। कांग्रेस नेत्री प्रियंका का यह बयान ऐसे समय में आया जब इन 11 दोषियों की रिहाई के खिलाफ एक याचिका पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट में सुनवाई हो रही है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने दोषियों की रिहाई को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका पर गुजरात सरकार और केंद्र को नोटिस जारी किया। गौरतलब है कि माफी नीति के तहत गुजरात सरकार ने इस मामले में उम्र कैद की सजा काट रहे सभी 11 दोषियों को 15 अगस्त को गोधरा के उप कारागार से रिहा कर दिया गया था, जिसकी विपक्षी पार्टियों ने कड़ी निंदा की थी। मुंबई की विशेष सीबीआई अदालत ने 21 जनवरी 2008 को सभी 11 आरोपियों को बिल्कीस बानो के परिवार के सात सदस्यों की हत्या और उनके साथ सामूहिक दुष्कर्म का दोषी ठहराते हुए उम्र कैद की सजा सुनाई थी। बाद में इस फैसले को बंबई हाईकोर्ट ने भी बरकरार रखा था। इन दोषियों को सुप्रीम कोर्ट के निर्देश के तहत विचार करने के बाद रिहा किया गया बताया जाता है। शीर्ष अदालत ने सरकार से वर्ष 1992 की क्षमा नीति के तहत दोषियों को राहत देने की अर्जी पर विचार करने को कहा था। इन हत्यारों और बलात्कारियों को जेल से बाहर आने पर भाजपा नेताओं ने फूल मालाओं और मिठाई से स्वागत किया था जिसकी देश-दुनिया में निंदा हो रही है

2022 पेगासस स्वाइवेयर विवाद की जांच के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट के निर्देश पर नियुक्त तकनीकी एवं पर्यवेक्षी समितियों ने कहा कि केंद्र ने मामले की जांच में सहयोग नहीं किया। प्रधान न्यायाधीश एनवी रमना, जस्टिस सूर्य कांत और जस्टिस हिमा कोहली की पीठ ने बृहस्पतिवार को कहा कि समिति को उन 29 फोन में से पांच में एक तरह का ‘मालवेयरश् मिला, जिनकी जांच की गई थी। उच्चतम न्यायालय अब इस मामले पर चार सप्ताह बाद सुनवाई करेगा। पीठ ने बताया कि पैनल ने तीन हिस्सों में अपनी लंबी रिपोर्ट जमा की है और एक हिस्से में नागरिकों के निजता के अधिकार एवं देश की साइबर सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कानून में संशोधन करने का सुझाव दिया गया है। उसने बताया कि वह पर्यवेक्षण न्यायाधीश (सेवानिवृत्त) आर वी रवींद्रन की सामान्य प्रकृति वाली रिपोर्ट को अपनी वेबसाइट पर अपलोड करेगी। पीठ ने कहा कि वह अन्य रिपोर्ट का संशोधित हिस्सा पक्षकारों को देने की अपील पर विचार करेगी। पीठ ने नेताओं, पत्रकारों और कार्यकर्ताओं की लक्षित निगरानी के लिए सरकारी एजेंसियों द्वारा इजराइली स्पाइवेयर के इस्तेमाल के आरोपों की जांच का पिछले साल 27 अक्टूबर को आदेश दिया था। मालूम हो कि करीब 2 साल पहले यह बात सामने आई थी कि इजरायली कंपनी एनएसओ के जासूसी मालवेयर पेगासस से देश के तमाम पत्रकारों, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं, नेताओं, मंत्रियों इत्यादि के फोनों में पेगासस पाया गया और उनकी जासूसी के लिए इस जासूसी साफ्टवेयर का उपयोग किया गया। सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा सरकार से जवाब मांगने पर सरकार ने कुछ भी बताने से इनकार कर दिया था। तब सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने जांच के लिए समिति गठित की थी। जानकारों का मानना है कि समिति ने इस गंभीर और खतरनाक प्रकरण को हल्का करने का काम किया है।

2023 मॉस्को में रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन के प्रवक्ता दिमित्री पेस्कोव ने 25 अगस्त को मीडिया को यह जानकारी कि पुतिन भारत में सितंबर में होने वाले जी20 शिखर सम्मेलन के लिए भारत यात्रा की योजना नहीं बना रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इस समय मुख्य जोर विशेष सैन्य अभियान पर है। इसी दिन राष्ट्रमंडल और एशियाई खेलों की स्वर्ण पदक विजेता पहलवान विनेश फोगाट ने एक्स पर लिखा, बृजभूषण के कारण भारतीय कुश्ती को कितना नुकसान हुआ है। अगर इसका सही आकलन किया जाए तो सही तस्वीर सामने आ जाएगी। इस माफिया के कारण तिरंगे का अपमान हुआ है। डब्ल्यूएफआई चुनाव में देरी के कारण, यूडब्ल्यूडब्ल्यू ने 24 अगस्त को भारतीय निकाय को निलंबित कर दिया जिससे यह स्पष्ट हो गया कि भारतीय पहलवानों को अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रतियोगिताओं में यूडब्ल्यूडब्ल्यू ध्वज के तहत लड़ना होगा। कुश्ती  खेल की राष्ट्रीय संस्था को अंतर्राराष्ट्रीय संस्घ्था यूनाइटेड वर्ल्ड रेसलिंग ने समय पर चुनाव न कराने के कारण निलंबित कर दिया है।
