1278 हंगरी के लैडिस्लॉस चतुर्थ और जर्मनी के रुडोल्फ प्रथम ने मोराविया में डर्नक्रुत के पास मार्चफील्ड लड़ाई में बोहेमिया के ओट्टोकर द्वितीय को हराया।

1303 राजस्थान के चित्तौड़गढ़ पर अफगानिस्तान से आए अलाउद्दीन खिलजी ने कब्जा किया। खिलजी ने दिल्ली में खिलजी सल्तनत कायम की। समाज व्यवस्था और नागरिक प्रशासन में तमाम तरह के सुधार किये।

1346 क्रेसी की लड़ाई में अंग्रेजी सेना ने अपने से दोगुनी संख्या वाली फ्रांसीसी सेना को परास्त किया।

1444 सेंट जैकब एन डेर बिर्स की लड़ाई में स्विस कॉन्फेडेरेट्स सेना को बेसल के पास डौफिन लुइस (जो बाद में फ्रांस का लुई चतुर्थ कहलाया) के नेतृत्व में आर्मग्नैक्स सेना ने हरा दिया।

1541 तुर्की के सुलतान सुलेमान ने बुडा और हंगरी पर अपना आधिपत्य जमाया।

1642 डच-पुर्तगाली सैन साल्वाडोर की दूसरी लड़ाई में डचों ने सैन साल्वाडोर (आधुनिक कीलुंग, ताइवान) में स्पेनिश गैरीसन को आत्मसमर्पण करने के लिए मजबूर किया, जिससे फॉर्मोसा पर अल्पकालिक स्पेनिश उपनिवेश समाप्त हो गया और इसकी जगह एक नया डच प्रशासन स्थापित किया गया।

1748 इसाई धर्म के सुधारवादी मार्टिन लूथर से प्रभावित पहला लूथरन संप्रदाय पेंसिलवेनिया, फिलाडेल्फिया, अमेरिका में स्थापित किया गया।

1789 राजा और जागीरदारों के शोषण-उत्पीड़न के विरुद्ध हुई फ्रांसीसी क्रांति के बाद नागरिक अधिकार के प्रावधान की घोषणा की गई। लोगों के व्यक्तिगत और सामूहिक अधिकारों के एक कानून को परिभाषित करते हुए, राष्ट्रीय संविधान सभा द्वारा अनुमोदित किया गया।

1910 भारत रत्न से सम्मानित हुई इसाई नन, संत, मिशनरी मैरी टेरेसा बोजाक्सीहु यानी मदर टेरेसा का जन्म अल्बानियाई परिवार में, उस्मानी साग्राज्य के स्कोपजे, मेसेडोनिया में हुआ। 1910 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध अमरीकी दार्शनिक तथा मनोवैज्ञानिक विलियम जेम्स का निधन हुआ।

1914 कलकत्ता में बंगाल के क्रांतिकारियों ने ब्रिटिस सैनिक बेड़े पर हमला कर 50 माउजर और 46 हजार राउंड गोलियां लूटी।

1920 अमरीका में महिलाओं को जन प्रतिनिधियों के चुनाव में अपना मत यानी वोट देने का मिला।

1927 हरियाणा के स्वतन्त्रता सेनानी बंसीलाल का जन्म भिवानी में हुआ। चौधरी बंसीलाल प्रभावशाली कांग्रेसी नेता, हरियाणा के 1968-72,1972-75, 1986-87 एवं 1996-99 तक हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में कार्य किया। वे केंद्रीय रक्षा मंत्री भी रहे। इसी दिन भारत के प्रमुख आर्किटेक्ट बालकृष्ण विट्ठलदास दोशी यानी बीवी दोशी का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1928 हीरो साइकिल्स के सह संस्थापक और समाजसेवी ओम प्रकाश मुंजाल का जन्म हुआ।

1929 अमेरिका में पहले रोलर कॉस्टर का निर्माण हुआ। इसी दिन हरभजन सिंह खालसा का जन्म गुजरांवाला, पाकिस्तान में हुआ। वे अमेरिका में उद्योगपति, योगी, योग गुरु और धार्मिक उपदेशक थे। 6 अक्टूबर 2004 को एस्पानोला, न्यू मैक्सिको, अमेरिका में उनका निधन हो गया।

2022 प्रधान न्यायाधीश एनवी रमना के विदाई कार्यक्रम में भावुक हुए वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता दुष्यंत दवे और अन्य अधिवक्ताओं के दिल भर आए। भरे गले से दवे ने कहा कि प्रधान न्यायाधीश ने न्यायपालिका, कार्यपालिका तथा संसद के बीच नियंत्रण एवं संतुलन बनाए रखा और दृढ़तापूर्वक ऐसा किया। दवे ने जस्टिस रमना को जनता का न्यायाधीश बताया। वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता कपिल सिब्बल ने कहा कि अदालत उन्हें मुश्किल वक्त में भी संतुलन बनाए रखने के लिए याद रखेगी। दुष्यंत दवे ने कहा कि मैं इस देश के नागरिकों की ओर से यह कह रहा हूं। आप उनके लिए खड़े रहे। आपने उनके अधिकारों और संविधान को बरकरार रखा। जब आपने पदभार संभाला, तो मैं इस अदालत ने जो कुछ भी देखा उसे लेकर संशय में था। मैं कहना चाहूंगा कि आपने हमारी अपेक्षाओं को पूरा किया। आपने न्यायपालिका, कार्यपालिका और संसद के बीच नियंत्रण एवं संतुलन बनाए रखा। आपने दृढ़तापूर्वक ऐसा किया। सिब्बल ने कहा कि जब समुद्र शांत होता है, तो जहाज आराम से चलाया जा सकता है। हम बहुत अशांत समय का सामना कर रहे हैं और ऐसे समय में जहाज चलाना आसान नहीं है। आपने यह सुनिश्चित किया कि इस न्यायालय की गरिमा एवं सत्यनिष्ठा बनी रहे। आपने सरकार को जवाबदेह बनाया। भारत के 48वें प्रधान न्यायाधीश (सीजेआई) के रूप में एनवी रमना ने 24 अप्रैल 2021 को कार्यभार संभाला था। 16 महीने से अधिक समय के कार्यकाल के बाद वह शुक्रवार 26 अगस्त को सेवानिवृत्त गये। वे काफी साहसिक न्यायाधीश रहे जिन्होंने अदालत और अदालत से बाहर भी भारतीय राजनीति और न्यायव्यवस्था की विसंगतियों पर मुखरता से अपने विचार व्यक्त किए।
