1796 स्पेन और फ्रांस ने ब्रिटिश गठबंधन के खिलाफ समझौता किया।

1812 अमेरिका के युद्धपोत ने ब्रिटेन के युद्धपोत गंर्रियर को हराया।

1839 फ्रांसीसी सरकार ने घोषणा की कि लुई डागुएरे की फोटोग्राफिक प्रक्रिया दुनिया के लिए मुफ्त एक उपहार है। 19 अगस्त को फोटो तत्व की खोज को लेकर रिपोर्ट पेश होने के उपलक्ष्य में विश्व फोटोग्राफी दिवस मनाया जाता है। विश्व फोटोग्राफी दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत 9 जनवरी, 1839 को फ्रांस में हुई थी। उस समय एक फोटोग्राफी प्रक्रिया की घोषणा की गई थी, जिसे डॉगोरोटाइप प्रक्रिया कहा गया और इसे दुनिया की पहली फोटोग्राफी प्रक्रिया माना गया। फ्रांस के जोसेफ नाइसफोर और लुइस डॉगेर ने इसका आविष्कार किया था। इसके बाद 19 अगस्त, 1839 को फ्रांस की सरकार ने इस आविष्कार की घोषणा की और उसका पेटेंट प्राप्त किया। तब से प्रति वर्ष 19 अगस्त का दिन वर्ल्ड फोटोग्राफी डे यानी विश्व फोटोग्राफी दिवस पूरी दुनिया में मनाया जाता है।

1871 विमान के आविष्कारक भाइयों आरविल राइट और विल्वर राइट में से एक आरविल का जन्म डेटन, ओहियो, अमेरिका में हुआ।

1887 भारत के क्रांतिकारी नेता एस. सत्यमूर्ति का जन्म हुआ।

1891 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवि, लेखक, व्यंग्यकार और पत्रकार हरिशंकर शर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1895 जापान के साथ युद्ध में पराजय के पश्चात चीन ने शीमोनोस्की समझौते के अनुसार ताइवान नामक द्वीप जापान के हवाले कर दिया।

1897 लंदन में पहली इलेक्ट्रिक टैक्सी का परिचालन प्रारंभ हुआ।

1907 प्रख्यात हिंदुस्तानी एवं हिंदी निबंधकार, उपन्यासकार, आलोचक, चिंतक तथा शोधकर्ता हजारी प्रसाद द्विवेदी का जन्म हुआ।

1908 पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित मशहूर हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय गायक अब्दुल राशिद खान का जन्म हुआ।

1909 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय वकील, न्यायाधीश और नेता बदरुद्दीन तैयब जी का निधन हुआ।

1939 गुरुदेव रवींद्र नाथ टैगोर ने कलकत्ता में सुभाष चंद्र बोस महाजती सदन का शिलान्यास किया। राष्ट्रीय विमानन दिवस (19 अगस्त) संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका का एक राष्ट्रीय आयोजन है जो विमानन के विकास का जश्न नेशनल एविएशन डे के तौर पर मनाता है। इस दिवस की स्थापना 1939 में फ्रैंकलिन डेलानो रूजवेल्ट ने की जिन्होंने एक राष्ट्रपति उद्घोषणा जारी की थी जिसमें विमान के आविष्कारक ऑरविल राइट के जन्मदिन की सालगिरह को राष्ट्रीय विमानन दिवस के रूप में नामित किया गया था।

1949 भुवनेश्वर को उड़ीसा की राजधानी बनाया गया। 

1950 इन्फोसिस फाउंडेशन के संस्थापक एन. आर. नारायणमूर्ति की पत्नी एवं प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता सुधा मूर्ति का जन्म हुआ।

1953 ब्रिटेन और अमेरिकी गुप्तचर एजेंसियों ने ईरान के प्रधानमंत्री मोहम्मद मोसदेग की तख्तापलट कार्रवाई को रोका और मोहम्मद रजा पहलवी की राजशाही कायम रखने में मदद की।

1967 विख्यात भारतीय अमेरिकी अर्थशास्त्री अमृत्य सेन की बेटी, जानी मानी बोल्ड भारतीय अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, पटकथा लेखिका, बाल साहित्य लेखिका और बाल अधिकार कार्यकर्ता नंदना सेन का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1970 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में चीन के लोगों और चीनी मूल के समुदाय को श्वेत का दर्जा मिला।

1973 फ्रांस ने परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1977 सोवियत संघ ने सेरी सागान क्षेत्र में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1987 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी नाटककार और एकांकीकार लक्ष्मी नारायण मिश्र का देहांत हुआ।

1993 हिंदी तथा बांग्ला फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध अभिनेता और निर्माता तथा थिएटर कलाकार उत्पल दत्त का निधन हुआ।

1998 सूडान एवं अफगानिस्तान में आतंकवादी ठिकानों पर अमेरिका ने मिसाइलों से हमला किया।

1999 भारत की परमाणु नीति से नाराज जी-8 ने सभी तरह की मदद पर रोक लगाने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन बेलग्रेड, यूगोस्लाविया में हजारों सर्बियाई लोगों ने संघीय गणराज्य यूगोस्लाविया के राष्ट्रपति स्लोबोदान मिलोसेविक के इस्तीफे की मांग करते हुए विशाल रैली निकाली।

2000 पाकिस्तान की अधिवक्ता और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता हिना जलाली को विश्व की पहली मानवाधिकार संरक्षक प्रतिनिधि नियुक्त किया गया।

2001 प्रसिद्ध दक्षिण अफ्रीक पत्रकार और सामाजिक, मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता डोनाल्ड वुड्स का निधन हुआ।

2002 खानकला एमआई-26 दुर्घटना में सैनिकों को ले जा रहे एक रूसी मिल एमआई-26 हेलीकॉप्टर पर ग्रोजनी के बाहर चेचन विद्रोहियों ने मिसाइल ने हमला किया, जिसमें 118 सैनिक मारे गए।

2003 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने पाकिस्तान को 5 साल में 11 करोड़ 57 लाख डालर का अनुदान देने का निर्णय लिया। इसी दिन इराक में संयुक्त राष्ट्र मुख्यालय पर एक ट्रक-बम हमले में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के शीर्ष दूत सर्जियो विएरा डी मेलो और 21 अन्य कर्मचारी मारे गए।

2004 दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी इंटरनेट कंपनी गूगल ने अपने शेयर, शेयर बाजार में लाॅन्च किये और गूगल को इससे 1.67 अरब डॉलर हासिल हुए। 2004 में इसी दिन वान डेन हुगेनबैंड ओलम्पिक सबसे तेज तैराक बने।

2005 श्रीलंका सरकार व तमिल विद्रोही संगठन लिट्टे में शांति वार्ता फिर शुरू करने पर सहमति बनी।

2006 इस्रायल ने फिलिस्तीनी उपप्रधानमंत्री को गिरफ्तार किया।

2007 अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन मिशन एंडेवर के यात्रियों ने स्पेसवॉक पूरा किया। इसी दिन अमेरिका के दक्षिण-पूर्व और मिडवेस्ट में एक सप्ताह की भीषण गर्मी से 49 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2008 पाइमान की सहायक कार्यकारी निदेशक मोसारत कदीय व एसोमैच के अध्यक्ष सज्जन जिंदल ने भारत-पाक व्यापार संबंधी रिपोर्ट जारी की। इसी दिन उत्तर कोरिया ने स्वीडन को दुश्मन और अमेरिका को युद्ध कठपुतली करार दिया।

2009 नौसेना के कमांडर दिलीप डोंडी ने भारत निर्मित नैसेना नौका महादेई पर सवार होकर विश्व की यात्रा के लिए प्रस्थान किया। इसी दिन 2009 में इराक की राजधानी बगदाद में सिलसिलेवार बम विस्फोट में 101 लोगों की मौत हुई और 565 घायल हुए। इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने प्रथम बार विश्व मानवतावादी दिवस का आयोजन किया। संयुक्त राष्ट्र की पहल पर और उसी के दिशा-निर्देशन में विश्व मानवतावादी दिवस 19 अगस्त को मनाया जाने वाला एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिवस है जो मानवीय कर्मियों और मानवीय कारणों से काम करते हुए अपनी जिम्मेदारियां निभाते हुए मारे गए लोगों को मान्यता देने के लिए समर्पित है। इसे संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र की आपातकालीन सहायता के समन्वय को मजबूत करने के स्वीडन द्वारा प्रायोजित जीए संकल्प ए/63/एल 49 के हिस्से के रूप में नामित किया गया था। यह उस दिन को चिह्नित करता है जिस दिन बगदाद में संयुक्त राष्ट्र मुख्यालय पर बमबारी में इराक में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव के तत्कालीन विशेष प्रतिनिधि सर्जियो विएरा डी मेलो और उनके 21 सहयोगी मारे गए थे।

यह दिन उस सभी को कृतज्ञता ज्ञापित करने के लिए है जो देश-विदेश में अपनी जिम्मेदारियां निभाते हुए अपनी जान गंवाते हैं। 19 अगस्त को विश्व मानवतावादी दिवस के रूप में नामित करना सर्जियो विएरा डी मेलो फाउंडेशन और उनके परिवार के जेनेवा और न्यूयॉर्क दोनों में फ्रांस, स्विट्जरलैंड, जापान और ब्राजील के राजदूतों के साथ मिलकर काम करने और नेतृत्व करने के अथक प्रयासों का परिणाम है। महासभा के माध्यम से मसौदा प्रस्ताव के माध्यम से फाउंडेशन ने मान्यता के योग्य संकेत के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा और सभी सदस्य देशों के प्रति अपनी गहरी कृतज्ञता व्यक्त की।

2010 अमेरिकी सेना की अंतिम ब्रिगेड के कुवैत जाने के साथ आॅपरेशन इराकी फ्रीडम खत्म हुआ।

2011 चिली के प्रसिद्ध फिल्म निर्देशक और निर्माता राउल रुइज का निधन हुआ।

2012 जापान ने 2012 का महिला बेसबॉल विश्व कप जीता।

2013 न्यू जीलैंड में जन्मे शीर्षस्थ भाषा विज्ञानी, व्याकरण के विद्वान, अनुवादक और हिंदी साहित्य के प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार, आॅक्सफोर्ड हिंदी अंग्रेजी शब्दकोष के संपादक रोनाल्ड स्टुअर्ट मेक्ग्रेगॉर का निधन इंग्लैंड में हुआ। 2013 में इसी दिन बिहार के धमरा घाट में ट्रेन दुर्घटना में कम से कम 37 लोग मारे गए। 2013 में इसी दिन न्यूजीलैंड में समलैंगिक विवाह हुआ। अप्रैल में विवाह समानता विधेयक के पारित होने के बाद कानूनन यह विवाह हुआ।

2019 लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट अवार्ड सहित अनेक सम्मान, पुरस्कार प्राप्त प्रख्यात फिल्म संगीतकार खय्याम का इंतकाल हुआ। मोहम्मद जहूर खय्याम हाशमी, जिन्हें खय्याम नाम से जाना जाता था, भारतीय फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार थे। अविभाजित पंजाब के राहों नगर में जन्मे खय्याम छोटी उम्र में ही घर से भागकर दिल्ली चले आये, जहाँ उन्होंने पंडित अमरनाथ से संगीत की दीक्षा ली, बाद में वे बंबई फिल्म जगत के शीर्ष संगीतकारों में से एक बने। इसी दिन बिहार के प्रमुख कांग्रेसी नेता और मुख्यमंत्री रहे जगन्नाथ मिश्रा का देहांत हुआ। इसी दिन विख्यात डेनिश व्यवसायी और अरबपति, डेनिश खुदरा बिक्री श्रृंखला जेवाईएसके के संस्थापक का निधन हुआ।

2021 लोकप्रिय जापानी अभिनेता सोनी चिबा का निधन हुआ।
