1333 स्कॉटी स्वतंत्रता युद्ध के दौरान हैलिडन पहाड़ी का युद्ध हुआ जिसमें अंग्रेजो ने स्कॉटों का दमन कर उनपर विजय हासिल कर ली।

1545 अंग्रेजी युद्धपोत मैरी रोज सॉलेंट की लड़ाई के दौरान पोर्ट्समाउथ के पास डूब गया। यह फिर 1971 तक खोजा नहीं जा सका।

1553 लेडी जेन ग्रे के स्थान पर इंग्लैंड की रानी मैरी प्रथम बन गईं। जेन ग्रे केवल 9 दिन रानी रह सकीं। वे 10 जुलाई 1553 को रानी नियुक्त हुई थीं।

1763 ब्रिटिश सेना ने बंगाल के शासक मीर कासिम को पश्चिम बंगाल के कटवा क्षेत्र में पराजित किया।

1814 रिवॉल्वर का निर्माण करने वाले, अमेरिकी आविष्कारक, इंजीनियर, उद्यमी और व्यवसायी सैमुअल कोल्ट का जन्म हार्टफोर्ड, कनेक्टिकट, अमेरिका में हुआ।

1827 1857 के प्रथम स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में अग्रणी भूमिका निभाने वाले ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की 34वीं बंगाल इंफेन्ट्री के सिपाही मंगल पांडे का जन्म नगवा, बलिया, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1894 बंगाल के प्रसिद्ध मुस्लिम नेता ख्वाजा नजीमुद्दीन का जन्म हुआ।

1900 फ्रांस की राजधानी पैरिस में पहली मेट्रो रेल चली। इससे पहले दुनिया की पहली मेट्रो सेवा लंदन में शुरू हो चुकी थी। इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता संग्रामी, छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य निर्माण आंदोलन के प्रमुख नेता और साहित्यकार खूबचंद बघेल का जन्म हुआ।

1903 फ्रांस के साइक्लिस्ट मोरिस गेरिन ने 2ए428 किलोमीटर लंबा पहला टूर डी फ्रांस जीता।

1909 बीसवीं सदी की मलयालम भाषा की प्रमुख कवियित्री (पद्मभूषण, सरस्वती सम्मान और साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त) नालापत बालमणि अम्मा का जन्म पुन्नयुरकुलम, केरल में हुआ।

1922 मलेशिया के राजा तुअंकु जाफडर इब्नी अलमर्हम तुअंकु अब्दुल रहमान का जन्म हुआ।

1938 प्रमुख, बहुप्रतिष्ठित भारतीय भौतिकी वैज्ञानिक (ब्रह्मांड के स्थिर अवस्था सिद्धांत के विशेषज्ञ और फ्रेड हॉयल के साथ भौतिकी के हॉयल-नार्लीकर सिद्धांत के प्रतिपादक) जयंत विष्णु नार्लीकर का जन्म कोल्हापुर में हुआ।

1947 बर्मा के प्रधानमंत्री आंग सेन की रंगून में हत्या कर दी गई।

1948 भारत के 39वें मुख्य न्यायाधीश अल्तमस कबीर का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। इसी दिन मणिपुर के मुख्यमंत्री रहे राधाबिनोद कोइजाम का जन्म हुआ।

1955 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी, भारतीय क्रिकेट कंट्रोल बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष रहे रोजन बिन्नी का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1956 विख्यात तेलूगू फिल्म अभिनेता राजेंद्र प्रसाद का जन्म नीम्माकुरु, आंध्र प्रदेश में हुआ। इसी दिन भारतीय कॉरपोरेट कानूनी मामलों की प्रमुख अधिवक्ता जिया मोदी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1969 अपोलो द्वितीय के अंतरिक्ष यात्री नील आर्म स्ट्रान्ग और बज ऑल्ड्रिन ने यान से बाहर निकलकर चंद्रमा की कक्षा में चहल-कदमी की।

1961 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेट कमेंटेटर, पत्रकार और खेल समीक्षक हर्षा भोगले का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ।

1969 तमाम विरोध के बावजूद बेहद साहसिक निर्णय लेते हुए प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी गांधी ने 19 जुलाई, 1969 को 14 निजी बैंकों का राष्ट्रीयकरण कर दिया था। इन बैंकों पर अधिकतर बड़े औद्योगिक घरानों का कब्जा था, ज्यादातर निम्न मध्यवर्ग और निम्न वर्ग बैंकिंग सेवाओं से वंचित था। राष्ट्रीयकरण का दूसरा दौर 1980 में आया, जिसके तहत सात और बैंकों को राष्ट्रीयकृत किया गया। राष्ट्रीयकरण के बाद भारत के बैंकिंग क्षेत्र में अभूतपूर्व प्रगति हुई। और आम लोगों को बैंकिंग सेवाएं मिलने लगीं। इससे बैंकों की शाखाएं कस्बाई और ग्रामीण तक में खुलीं। रोजगार भी बैंकिंग सेवा में बढ़े और छोटे कारोबारियों, किसानों इत्यादि को भी इससे बहुत लाभ हुआ। भारत में बहुत से विदेशी और निजी क्षेत्र के बैंक सक्रिय हैं, लेकिन बैंकों की सेवाएं लेने वाले लगभग 90 फीसदी लोग अब भी सरकारी क्षेत्र के बैंकों की ही सेवाएं लेते हैं। मोदी सरकार के दौर में बैंकिंग सेवा बदहाल होती जा रही है। इसने बहुत सी राष्ट्रीयकृत बैंकों को बंद कर उन्हें कुछ बैंकों में मिला दिया है। कुछ बैंकों को सरकार बेच रही है। इसके अलावा बैंकों की माली हालत भी सरकार ने खस्ता कर दी है और पूंजीपतियों के लाखों करोड़ के कर्ज एनपीए या राइट आॅफ करवा कर बैंकों को कई लाख करोड़ का घाटा करवा दिया है। 19 जुलाई को बैंक राष्ट्रीयकरण दिवस मनाया जाता है लेकिन निजीकरण, विलय इत्यादि बैंक विरोधी नीतियां लागू कर मोदी सरकार ने इस दिवस को औचित्यहीन कर दिया है।

1963 संविधान सभा की सदस्य एनी मसकैरिनी का निधन हुआ।

1971 गुरप्रीत घुग्गी के नाम से विख्यात पंजाबी हास्य कलाकार और आम आदमी पार्टी के नेता गुरप्रीत सिंह वड़ैच का जन्म गुरदासपुर में हुआ।

1972 सरकार द्वारा कथित आंतकी संगठन इंडियन मुजाहिदीन के सदस्य, बम बनाने वाले और भारतीय ओसामा बिन लादेन कहे गये अब्दुल कुरैशी का जन्म रामपुर, उ.प्र. में हुआ।

1973 इलिनोइस, अमेरिका से अमेरिकी संसद सदस्य और अधिवक्ता राजा कृष्णमूर्ति का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1974 अमर शहीद उधम सिंह की अस्थियां लंदन से नई दिल्ली लाई गईं। उन्हें अंग्रेजों के जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार के दोषियों में से एक जनरल ओ’ड्वायर की हत्या करने के जुर्म में लंदन जेल में फांसी दी गई थी।

1976 नेपाल में सागरमाथा पार्क बनाया गया।

1979 निकारगुआ देश की जनता की क्रांति सफल हुई। जनविरोधी सरकार को जनता ने लंबे आंदोलन के बाद उखाड़ फेंका।

1980 सोवियत संघ की राजधानी मॉस्को में ओलिंपिक खेलों की शुरुआत हुई। तब मास्को से ओलंपिक खेलों का आंखों देखा हाल सुनाने के लिए प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कमेंटेटर जसदेव सिंह आकाशवाणी की तरफ से गये थे।

1983 फेयर एंड लवली विज्ञापन में नजर आने वाली दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की अभिनेत्री और माॅडल सिंधु तोलानी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इन्होंने कुछ हिंदी फिल्मों में भी अभिनय किया है।

1987 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल मधुरा हेमंत नायक का जन्म इंदौर में हुआ।

1989 जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल श्रीजीता डे का जन्म हल्दिया में हुआ।

1991 जाने माने भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेता एवं माॅडल रजत टोकस का जन्म मुनीरका, दिल्ली में हुआ।

1969 Taking a very bold decision despite all the opposition, Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi nationalized 14 private banks on July 19, 1969. These banks were mostly owned by big industrial houses, mostly the lower middle class and lower classes were deprived of banking services. The second round of nationalization came in 1980, under which seven more banks were nationalised. After nationalization, there was phenomenal progress in the banking sector of India. And common people started getting banking services. Due to this, the branches of banks were opened in towns and villages. Employment also increased in banking service and small businessmen, farmers etc. also benefited a lot from this. Many foreign and private sector banks are active in India, but about 90 percent of the people who take the services of banks still take the services of public sector banks. Banking service is getting worse in the era of Modi government. It has closed down many nationalized banks and merged them into a few banks. Government is selling some banks.
