622 मुस्लिम युग की शुरूआत हुई जब पैगंबर मोहम्मद ने मक्का से मदीना की यात्रा शुरू की।

1439 इंग्लैंड में रोगों के प्रसार खासतौर पर यौन रोग फैलने के डर से चुंबन लेने-देने पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया।

1465 फ्रांस के मोंटलहेरी में युद्ध की शुरुआत हुई।

1519 इसाई धार्मिक सुधारवादी और चिंतक मार्टिन लूथर और एक अन्य ईसाई धार्मिक चिंतक जॉन ऐक के बीच लेपजिग के प्लेसिनबर्ग कैसल में सार्वजनिक बहस शुरू हुई।

1661 स्वीडन के केंद्रीय बैंक स्टाॅकहोम बैंको ने राजधानी स्टाॅकहोम में यूरोप का पहला बैंक नोट जारी किया। स्टाॅकहोम बैंको की स्थापना जोहान पाल्मस्ट्रच ने की थी।

1683 कारा मुस्तफा के नेतृत्व में तुर्की के सैनिक आॅस्ट्रिया की राजधानी वियना पहुंचे।

1790 अमेरिकी कांग्रेस ने कोलंबिया की स्थापना की।

1798 अमेरिका में सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य सेवा विभाग बना और अमेरिकी मरीन अस्पताल इसके लिए पहला अस्पताल अधिकृत किया गया।

1856 समाज सुधारकों के लंबे प्रयासों के बाद भारत में ऊंची जाति की विधवाओं को पुनर्विवाह करने की अनुमति मिली। इससे पहले हिंदुओं में ऊंची जाति की विधवाएं दोबारा विवाह नहीं कर सकती थीं। ब्रिटिश भारतीय सरकार से इस कानून को लागू करवाने में समाजसेवी ईश्वरचंद विद्यासागर का बड़ा योगदान था। उन्होंने विधवा विवाह को हिंदुओं के बीच प्रचलित करने के लिए अपने बेटे का विवाह भी एक विधवा से करवाया।

1890 विख्यात ब्रिटिश चिकित्सा विज्ञानी डॉ. जेम्स पार्किंसन ने पार्किंसन बीमारी और उसके अस्तित्व में आने की प्रक्रिया के बारे में अपना शोध पूर्ण किया। उन्हीं के नाम पर बीमारी का नाम पार्किंसन रखा गया। पार्किंसन बीमारी एक तरह का मूवमेंट डिसऑर्डर है, जिसमें हाथ या पैर से दिमाग में पहुंचने वाली नसें काम करना बंद कर देती हैं। यह आनुवंशिक कारण के साथ-साथ पर्यावरण विषमताओं की वजह से भी होता है। यह बीमारी शरीर में धीरे-धीरे होती है, इसलिए इसके लक्षण पहचानना कई बार मुश्किल हो जाता है।

1894 जापान और इंग्लैंड के बीच आओकि-किंबरली की संधि पर हस्ताक्षर हुए।

1896 नॉर्वे के प्रसिद्ध मजदूर नेता, राजकीय अधिकारी, राजनीतिज्ञ तथा लेखक ट्रीगवी ली का जन्म हुआ।

1900 रूस ने मंचूरिया में चीन के लोगों के खिलाफ आक्रामक अभियान शुरू किया।

1905 बागेरहाट (अब बांग्लादेश) में एक जनसभा में ब्रिटिश सामान के बहिष्कार के प्रस्ताव को पहली बार मंजूरी दी गई।

1925 इराक की राजधानी बगदाद में शाह फैसल ने पहली संसद स्थापित की।

1926 नेशनल जियोग्राफिक चैनल ने पहली बार समुद्र के भीतर के प्राकृतिक दृश्यों के रंगीन चित्र प्रसारित किये।

1935 अमेरिका के ओक्लाहोमा सिटी में पहला ऑटोमैटिक पार्किंग मीटर लगा।

1937 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रमुख नेता और राज्य सभा सांसद रहे आर. के. धवन का जन्म हुआ।

1942 फ्रांस की राजधानी पेरिस में पुलिस ने 13,152 यहूदियों को गिरफ्तार किया।

1945 अमरीका ने परमाणु बम का पहला परीक्षण किया। 6 एवं 9 अगस्त को इसी साल अमेरिका ने जापान के हिराशिमा और नागासाकी नगरों पर परमाणु बम गिराए। जिससे लाखों जानें गईं और भारी तबाही हुई।

1948 जाने माने कांग्रेस नेता पवन कुमार बंसल का जन्म सुनाम, पंजाब में हुआ।

1950 फुटबॉल विश्व कप के चौथे संस्करण के फाइनल में ब्राजील को हराकर उरुगवे चैंपियन बना।

1951 नेपाल को ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1968 भारतीय हॉकी कप्तान धनराज पिल्लै का जन्म हुआ।

1969 अपोलो-11 स्पेसक्राफ्ट में नील आर्मस्ट्रांग, बज एल्ड्रिन और माइकल कॉलिंस को कैनेडी स्पेस सेंटर से चांद के सफर पर भेजा गया। अमेरिकी समयानुसार सुबह 9 बजकर 32 मिनट पर अमेरिका के कैनेडी स्पेस सेंटर से अपोलो-11 ने उड़ान भरी। लाखों लोगों ने इस नजारे को टीवी पर देखा। 76 घंटे में स्पेसक्राफ्ट 2 लाख 40 हजार किलोमीटर की दूरी तय कर चुका था। 19 जुलाई को स्पेसक्राफ्ट चांद की ऑर्बिट में पहुंच गया। अगले दिन नील आर्मस्ट्रांग और बज एल्ड्रिन ईगल मॉड्यूल के जरिए स्पेसक्राफ्ट से अलग हो गए और चांद की सतह पर जाने की तैयारी करने लगे। जब उनके मॉड्यूल में केवल 30 सेकेंड का ईंधन ही बचा था तब दोनों चांद की सतह से दूर थे। दुनियाभर के लोगों की धड़कनें बढ़ने लगीं थीं। 20 जुलाई को शाम 4 बजकर 17 मिनट पर स्पेस सेंटर में वैज्ञानिकों को नील आर्मस्ट्रांग की तरफ से एक मैसेज मिला। इस मैसेज में आर्मस्ट्रांग ने कहा, हम लैंड कर चुके हैं। इसी के साथ पूरा अमेरिका खुशी से झूम उठा। चांद की सतह पर कदम रखते हुए आर्मस्ट्रांग ने कहा, एक इंसान के लिए यह एक छोटा कदम है, लेकिन संपूर्ण मानव जाति के लिए एक बड़ी छलांग है। इसके कुछ देर बाद एल्ड्रिन भी चांद की सतह पर उतरे। दोनों करीब ढाई घंटे रहे। उन्होंने चांद की सतह पर अमेरिका का झंडा भी लगाया, कुछ फोटो खींचे, सतह से मिट्टी इकट्ठी की और 24 जुलाई को धरती पर वापस लौट आए।

1970 एक अमेरिकी संस्था की पहल पर पहली बार विश्व सर्प दिवस मनाया गया। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर रामाकृष्णन श्रीधर का जन्म मैसूर में हुआ। इसी दिन इराक में संविधान लागू हुआ।

1979 सद्दाम हुसैन इराक के राष्ट्रपति बने। इस पद पर लगातार 24 साल तक काबिज रहे। उन्हें अमेरिका ने फर्जी मुकदमों में अप्रैल 2003 को बंदी बना लिया और दिसंबर 2006 में मृत्यु दंड दे दिया।

1980 जानी मानी हिंदी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल गुनगुन उपरारी का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ।

1981 भारत ने परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1993 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड तमिल फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल अशरिता शेट्टी का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन की खुफिया सेवा, एमआई5 के किसी सदस्य ने फोटो खिंचवा कर पहली बार औपचारिक रूप से जनता के सामने अपनी पहचान खोली।

1999 जॉन एफ.कैनेडी के पुत्र जॉन एफ कैनेडी जूनियर की विमान दुर्घटना में मृत्यु हुई।

2006 संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरउक्षा परिषद में उत्तर कोरिया पर प्रतिबंध लगाने का प्रस्ताव पारित।

2007 बांग्लादेश के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना वाजेद को धन वसूली के एक मामले में गिरफ्तार किया गया। 2007 में 16 जुलाई को जापान के निगाटा तट पर 6.8 तीव्रता के आए भूकंप आने से आठ लोगों की जानें गई और 800 लोग घायल हुए। एक परमाणु ऊर्जा केंद्र भी ध्वस्त हो गया।

2008 पूर्व ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री टोनी ब्लेयर ने पूर्व घोषित गाजा क्षेत्र की अपनी यात्रा रद्द की। इसी दिन अमेरिका ने संसद में पाकिस्तान को साढ़े सात अरब डॉलर की असैनिक मदद के लिए एक विधेयक पेश किया।

1856 After long efforts of social reformers, upper caste widows were allowed to remarry in India. Before this, the widows of the upper caste Hindus could not remarry. Social worker Ishwarchand Vidyasagar had a major contribution in getting the British Indian government to implement this law. He also got his son married to a widow to popularize widow marriage among the Hindus.

1890 Renowned British medical scientist Dr. James Parkinson completes his research about Parkinson's disease and the process of its existence. The disease was named Parkinson's after him. Parkinson's disease is a type of movement disorder in which the nerves reaching the brain from the hands or feet stop working. Uruguay became the champion after defeating Brazil in the final of the fourth edition of the 1950 Football World Cup.

1951 Nepal got independence from Britain.

1968 Dhanraj Pillai, Indian hockey captain, was born.

1969 Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were sent on a journey to the moon from the Kennedy Space Center in the Apollo-11 spacecraft. Apollo-11 took off from the Kennedy Space Center in America at 9.32 am American time. Lakhs of people saw this scene on TV. The spacecraft had covered a distance of 2 lakh 40 thousand kilometers in 76 hours. On July 19, the spacecraft reached the lunar orbit. The next day, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin separated from the spacecraft via the Eagle module and began preparing for the lunar surface. When only 30 seconds of fuel was left in their module, both were away from the lunar surface. The heartbeats of people all over the world started increasing. On July 20, at 4.17 pm, scientists at the Space Center received a message from Neil Armstrong. In this message, Armstrong said, we have landed. With this, the whole of America jumped with joy. "That's one small step for a man, but one giant leap for mankind," Armstrong said of stepping onto the lunar surface. Shortly after this, Aldrin also landed on the surface of the moon. Both stayed for about two and a half hours. They also planted the US flag on the lunar surface, took some photographs, collected soil from the surface and returned to Earth on 24 July.
