1588 इंग्लिश चैनल में ब्रिटिश नौसेना और स्पेन की नौसेना के मध्य युद्ध छिड़ा।

1611 आमेर (राजस्थान) के राजा तथा मुगल साम्राज्य के वरिष्ठ सेनापति जयसिंह का जन्म हुआ। उनको मिर्जा राजा के नाम से भी पुकारा जाता था।

1662 इंग्लैंड के राजा चार्ल्स द्वितीय ने लंदन में रॉयल सोसायटी (दि रॉयल सोसायटी ऑफ लंदन) को अधिनियमित किया। यह ब्रिटेन की स्वतंत्र वैज्ञानिक अकादमी हैं, जो मानवता के लाभ के लिए विज्ञान में उत्कृष्टता को बढ़ावा देने के लिए काम करती है।

1795 ला मारसेइलेसी को फ्रांस का राष्ट्रीय गान घोषित किया गया।

1904 अमेरिका के लॉस एंजिल्स में पहला बौद्ध मंदिर बना।

1905 पाकिस्तान के चौथे प्रधानमंत्री हुए चौधरी मुहम्मद अली का जन्म जालंधर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1910 अपनी किताब क्लिनिकल साइकियाट्री में एमिल क्रैपेलिन ने अपने सहकर्मी अलोइस अल्जाइमर के नाम पर बीमारी का नाम अल्जाइमर रखा।

1912 भारत और पाकिस्तान के प्रथम युद्ध (1947-48) में शहीद हुए भारतीय सैन्य अधिकारी मोहम्मद उस्मान का जन्म हुआ।

1916 विलियम बोइंग ने पेसिफिक एयरो प्रोडक्ट्स कंपनी को शामिल किया, जिसे बाद में बोइंग नाम दिया गया।

1909 लेडी देशमुख के नाम से मशहूर आंध्र प्रदेश की महिला स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, वकील और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता दुर्गाबाई देशमुख का जन्म हुआ। 15 जुलाई 1909 को महाराष्ट्र कांग्रेस समिति की कार्यकारिणी के सदस्य और बंबई विधानसभा के सदस्य हुए प्रमुख राजनेता गणपतराव देवजी तापसे का जन्म हुआ।

1922 प्रख्यात अमेरिकी भौतिक विज्ञानी, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता लिओन एम. लेडरमैन का जन्म हुआ।

1923 इटली की संसद ने नया संविधान स्वीकार किया।

1925 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय अभिनेता, नाटककार, निर्देशक, रंगमंच के सिद्धांतकार बादल सरकार का जन्म हुआ।

1933 प्रख्यात मलयालम फिल्मकार, पटकथाकार एम टी वासुदेवन नायर का जन्म कुडालूर केरल में हुआ।

1937 हिंदी के जाने-माने प्रखर पत्रकार और इंडियन एक्सप्रेस समूह के हिंदी अखबार जनसत्ता के संपादक रहे प्रभाष जोशी का जन्म हुआ।

1944 दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान अमरीकी सेना ने जापान पर व्यापक स्तर पर बमबारी आरंभ की।

1948 अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति हैरी एस टूमैन दूसरे कार्यकाल के लिए निर्वाचित हुए। 6 और 9 अगस्त 1945 को इन्हीं के आदेश पर जापान के हिरोशिमा और नागासाकी पर परमाणु बम गिराए गये।

1955 प्रथम राष्ट्रपति डॉ. राजेन्द्र प्रसाद ने 15 जुलाई को देश के प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरु को सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान भारत रत्न देने की घोषणा की। इस सम्मान की स्थापना 1954 में हुई।

1956 इंटरनेशनल सेंटर फार थियोरीटिकल साइंस बंगलौर में प्रोफेसर, प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिजिसिस्ट अशोक सेन का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1959 अमेरिका के करीब 5 लाख स्टील मिल कर्मचारी बेहतर वेतन, भत्ते और काम की अच्छी स्थितियों की मांग को लेकर हड़ताल पर चले गए।

1961 स्पेन ने पुरुषों और महिलाओं के लिए समान अधिकारों को स्वीकार किया।

1962 अल्जीरिया अरब लीग का हिस्सा बना।

1967 मराठी रंगमंच के प्रसिद्ध नायक और बहुप्रतिष्ठित गायक बाल गंधर्व का निधन हुआ।

1968 अमेरिका और सोवियत संघ के बीच वाणिज्यिक विमान सेवा की शुरुआत हुई।

1970 डेनमार्क ने इटली को 2-0 से हराकर पहला महिला फुटबॉल विश्व कप जीता। इसी दिन जानी मानी तमिल फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, माॅडल और टीवी एंकर अनु हासन का जन्म हुआ।

1977 आॅस्ट्रेलियाई आॅलराउंडर डेविड हसी का जन्म हुआ।

1978 भारत के प्रमुख आॅनलाइन पेमेंट गेटवे पेटीएम के संस्थापक विजय शेखर शर्मा का जन्म अलीगढ़ में हुआ।

1979 गठबंधन की 1977 की जनता पार्टी सरकार के प्रधानमंत्री मोरारजी देसाई ने अपने पद से इस्तीफा दिया।

1980 जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल रीवा बब्बर का जन्म हुआ।

1983 अर्मेनियाई चरमपंथियों ने फ्रांस के ओरली में बमबारी की, जिससे आठ लोग मारे गए और 54 घायल हो गये।

1984 पंजाब में सिखों के एक समूह द्वारा अलग देश खालिस्तान की मांग वाले आतंकी आंदोलन के कारण पंजाब को आतंकवाद प्रभावित क्षेत्र को घोषित किया गया।

1991 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय तमिल, मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल एवं टेलीविजन हस्ती रजिशा विजयन का जन्म पेराम्बरा में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी सैनिक उत्तरी इराक से वापस निकले।

1996 इंग्लैंड के प्रिंस चार्ल्स और उनकी पत्नी प्रिंसेस डायना ने अपने तलाक के लिए आवेदन किया।

1997 विश्व प्रसिद्ध इतालवी फैशन डिजाइनर गिएनी वरसाचे की अमेरिका के मियामी में हत्यारे एंड्रयू क्यूनन ने गोली मार कर हत्या कर दी।

1999 चीन ने न्यूट्रान बम की क्षमता हासिल करने की घोषणा की।

2000 सिएरा लियोन में एक सैन्य कार्यवाही में सभी भारतीय सैनिक बंधक मुक्त कराए गए।

2002 अमेरिकी पत्रकार डेनियल पर्ल के हत्यारे उमर शेख को पाकिस्तानी अदालत ने मौत की सजा सुनाई।

2004 माओवादियों से वार्ता में नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री ने विदेशी मध्यस्थता स्वीकार की। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय चिकित्सा वैज्ञानिक, परिवार नियोजन विशेषज्ञ बानो जहाँगीर कोयाजी का निधन हुआ।

2005 श्रीलंकाई सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने सुनामी राहत सामग्री बंटवारे संबंधी सरकार-लिट्टे समझौते को निलंबित किया।

2008 नेपाल में दोनों प्रमुख वामपंथी दलों के बीच देश के प्रथम राष्ट्रपति और उपराष्ट्रपति पद पर नियुक्तियाँ तथा नई सरकार के गठन पर सहमति बनी।

2009 कैस्पियन एयरलाइंस की उड़ान 7908 उत्तर पश्चिमी ईरान में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई, जिसमें सवार सभी 168 लोग मारे गए।

2011 भारत ने एक ध्रुवीय उपग्रह प्रक्षेपण यान पीएसएलवी द्वारा आधुनिक संचार उपग्रह जीसैट-12 को अंतरिक्ष कक्षा में सफलतापूर्वक स्थापित किया। 2011 में इसी दिन टाटा समूह ने नैनो के बाद 32 हजार रुपए में घर देने की घोषणा की। लेकिन यह दोनों ही परियोजनाएं विफल हो गईं।

2012 नेपाल के पारसी में हुई बस दुर्घटना में 40 तीर्थयात्रियों की मौत हो गयी।

2014 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने युवाओं को रोजगार, सभ्य कार्य और उद्यमिता के लिए कौशल से लैस करने के रणनीतिक महत्व का जश्न मनाने के लिए 2014 में 15 जुलाई को विश्व युवा कौशल दिवस के रूप में घोषित किया। विश्व युवा कौशल दिवस 2023 का विषय परिवर्तनकारी भविष्य के लिए शिक्षकों, प्रशिक्षकों और युवाओं को कुशल बनाना है। इसी दिन मास्को में एक ट्रेन के पटरी से उतरने के कारण उसमें सवार 20 लोग मारे गए और 100 अन्य घायल हो गये। इसी दिन कथित आतंकी संगठन बोको हाम के नेता, मोहम्मद जकारी को नाइजीरियाई पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार किया।

2017 गणित की दुनिया का प्रतिष्ठित सम्मान फील्ड्स मेडल पाने वाली पहली महिला गणितज्ञ मरियम मिर्जाखानी (जन्म 3 मई 1977 तेहरान, ईरान) का निधन हुआ।
