1260 लिथुआनिया के ग्रैंड डची के खिलाफ ड्यूरेब की लड़ाई में लिवोनियन की हार हुई।

1534 ऑटोमन सेना ने उत्तर पश्चिमी फारस में ताबरिज पर कब्जा किया।

1645 अलेक्सेई रोमानोव अपने पिता माइकल के स्थान पर रूस के शासक बने।

1771 विख्यात ब्रिटिश नाविक कैप्टन जेम्स कुक की पृथ्वी के दक्षिणी गोलार्ध की ऐतिहासिक खोज-यात्रा तीन वर्ष के बाद समाप्त हुई।

1772 कैप्टन जेम्स कुक ने दक्षिणी सागर की दूसरी यात्रा शुरु की।

1803 विख्यात भारतीय समाज सुधारक राजा राम मोहन राय और अलैकजेंडर डफ ने पांच छात्रों के साथ स्कॉटिश चर्च कॉलेज शुरू किया। यह भारत का प्रथम इंग्लिश मीडियम स्कूल हुआ।

1814 काराबिनेरी (आधुनिक कैराबिनियर) इटली की राष्ट्रीय सैन्य पुलिस को विक्टर इमैनुएल प्रथम ने सार्डिनिया राज्य के पुलिस बल के रूप में स्थापित किया।

1832 हेनरी स्कूलक्रॉफ्ट ने मिनेसोटा में मिसीसिपी नदी के स्रोत की खोज की।

1863 जानी मानी भारतीय - ब्रिटिश मिस्रविज्ञानी, पुरातत्वविद्, मानवविज्ञानी, इतिहासकार और लोकगीतकार मार्गरेट ऐलिस मुरे का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। इसी दिन न्यूयार्क में सिविल वार ड्रॉफ्ट के विरोधियों के दंगे में एक हजार से अधिक लोग घायल हुए।

1878 बर्लिन कांग्रेस ने यूरोपीय शक्तियों के बीच बाल्कन देशों का बँटवारा किया।

1879 बुल्गारिया में नेशनल गाडर्स यूनिट की स्थापना हुई।

1882 रूस में ट्रेन के पटरी से उतर जाने के कारण 200 लोगों की मौत हो गई।

1887 स्कॉटलैंड में दूसरा रेल पुल शुरु हुआ जिसका प्रयोग आज भी जारी है। इसी दिन इटली के विख्यात वैज्ञानिक और आविष्कारक गुग्लेलिमो मारकोनी ने 1887 में बेतार संदेश के लिए अमेरिकी पेटेंट हासिल किया।

1905 कलकत्ता से प्रकाशित बांग्ला साप्ताहिक अखबार संजीवनी ने ब्रिटिश सामानों के बहिष्कार का सर्वप्रथम सुझाव दिया।

1908 लंदन में चौथा आधुनिक ओलंपिक खेल आयोजन शुरु हुआ।

1913 प्रसिद्ध उद्योगपति तुलसी प्रसाद खेतान का जन्म हुआ।

1918 टोकायाम की खाड़ी में जापानी युद्धपोत में विस्फोट हुआ जिसमें 500 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1922 डेनमार्क के विख्यात राजनितिज्ञ ऐंकर जॉरजेंसन का जन्म हुआ।

1923 कैलिफोर्निया के शहर लॉस एंजिलिस में माउंट हिल्स के पास जमीन की कीमतों को बढ़ाने के प्रचार हेतु हाॅलीवुड लिखा गया।

1929 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी जतिंद्र नाथ दास ने ऐतिहासिक भूख हड़ताल की शुरुआत की।

1932 हिंदी फिल्मों की प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री बीना राय का जन्म लाहौर, पाकिस्तान में हुआ।

1939 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्मकार प्रकाश मेहरा का जन्म बिजनौर, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1941 यूगोस्लाविया की कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने मोंटेनेग्रो में इतालवी कब्जे वाली ताकतों के खिलाफ एक सामान्य विद्रोह शुरू किया इसे छह सप्ताह के भीतर दबा दिया गया। इसी दिन भारत की आठवीं लोकसभा की सदस्य टी. कल्पना देवी का जन्म हुआ था। इसी दिन हिंदी और अंग्रेजी की जानी मानी आधुनिक कहानी और उपन्यास लेखिका सुनीता जैन का जन्म हुआ।

1944 मिजोरम के राजनीतिज्ञ और राजनीतिक दल मिजो नेशनल फ्रंट के मुखिया जोरामथंगा का जन्म हुआ।

1945 मैक्सिको मरुस्थल में पहला परमाणु बम परिक्षण के लिए लाया गया। 1945 में इसी दिन ऑस्ट्रेलिया के क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी एस्ले मैलेट का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1945 में ब्रिटेन की संसद में इंडियन इंडिपेंडेंस एक्ट यानी भारत की स्वतंत्रता का विधेयक पारित किया गया।

1954 अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन और फ्रांस जेनेवा में वियतनाम के बँटवारे पर सहमत हुए।

1962 एक अभूतपूर्व कार्रवाई करते हुए ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री हेरोल्ड मैकमिलन ने अपने मंत्रियों को बर्खास्त कर दिया।

1971 मोरक्को के बागी नेताओं को मौत की सजा दी गई।

1974 हेडिंग्ले में भारत ने अपना पहला वनडे मैच इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ खेला।

1975 जाने माने बालीवुड फिल्म कथा लेखक तुषार हीरानंदानी का जन्म हुआ।

1977 आपातकाल के दौरान दिए गये भारत रत्न, पद्म विभूषण आदि जैसे नागरिक सम्मान जनता पार्टी सरकार ने वापस लिये।

1981 जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड माॅडल तथा फिल्म सोनल सहगल का जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआ। 

1984 जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड माॅडल तथा फिल्म अभिनेत्री उर्वशी शर्मा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन 1984 में जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड माॅडल तथा बांग्ला फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल मोनामी घोष का जन्म बशीरहाट, पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ।

1995 बहुप्रतिष्ठित उपन्यासकार, कथाकार आशापूर्णा देवी का निधन हुआ।

1998 जाने माने भारतीय टेनिस खिलाड़ी लिएंडर पेस ने हॉल आफ फेम टेनिस चैंपियनशिप में अपने जीवन का प्रथम ए.टी.पी. खिताब जीता, ब्राजील ने इसी दिन सी.टी.बी.टी. एवं एन.पी.टी. पर हस्ताक्षर किये। 

2000 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी अनिकेत अनिल जाधव का जन्म कोल्हापुर, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका और वियतनाम ने बड़े व्यापार अनुबंध पर हस्ताक्षर किए। 2000 में इसी दिन फिजी में पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री महेंद्र चौधरी समेत 18 राजनीतिक बंधक रिहा किए गये।

2001 वर्ष 2008 के ओलंपिक खेलों की मेजबानी बीजिंग (चीन) को सौंपी गयी।

2004 रूसी राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने साइबेरिया और देश के सुदूर पूर्ववर्ती इलाकों के विकास के लिए भारत से और मजबूत संबंधों की इच्छा जताई।

2006 परमाणु बम निर्माण विषयक ईरान का मामला संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद को सौंपा गया।

2008 अमेरिका में ग्रीन पार्टी ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में पूर्व डेमोक्रेट सिंथिया मैक्किनी को अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया।

2009 शी वुल्फ शकीरा ने अपने आठवें एल्बम की शुरुआत की।

2010 यूरोपीय संघ ने घोषणा की कि एस्टोनिया यूरोपीय संघ का सत्रहवां सदस्य होगा।

2011 भारत की आर्थिक राजधानी मुंबई में झवेरी बाजार, ओपेरा हाउस और दादर में हुए 3 बम धमाकों से अनेक लोग मारे गये और काफी नुकसान हुआ।

2014 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा के खिलाफ महाभियोग चलाने के विपक्षियों के प्रस्ताव को यू.एस. हाउस की न्यायपालिका समिति ने अस्वीकार कर दिया। बताया गया कि इसमें महाभियोग के लिए कोई आधार नहीं था। इसी दिन इंटरनेशनल स्पेस स्टेशन के लिए दूसरा कार्गो रॉकेट ऑर्बिटल साइंसेज कॉर्प द्वारा लॉन्च किया गया।

2016 यूनाइटेड किंगडम की कंजर्वेटिव पार्टी के सांसदों ने थेरेसा मे को प्रधानमंत्री चुना।

1771 The historic voyage of the famous British navigator Captain James Cook to the Southern Hemisphere of the Earth ends after three years.

1772 Captain James Cook begins his second voyage to the South Seas.

1803 Noted Indian social reformers Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Alexander Duff start the Scottish Church College with five students. It became India's first English medium school.

1814 The Carabinieri (modern Carabinieri), the national military police of Italy, are established by Victor Emmanuel I as the police force of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

1832 Henry Schoolcroft discovered the source of the Mississippi River in Minnesota.

1863 Margaret Alice Murray, noted Indo-British Egyptologist, archaeologist, anthropologist, historian and folklorist, was born in Calcutta. On the same day, more than a thousand people were injured in riots by opponents of the Civil War draft in New York.

1941 The Communist Party of Yugoslavia begins a general uprising against the Italian occupation forces in Montenegro; it is suppressed within six weeks. On this day T. Kalpana Devi, a member of the 8th Lok Sabha of India, was born. Sunita Jain, a well-known modern story and novel writer in Hindi and English, was born on this day.

1944 Zoramthanga, politician from Mizoram and head of the political party Mizo National Front, was born.

1945 The first atomic bomb was brought for testing in the Mexico desert. On this day in 1945, Australian cricketer Ashley Mallett was born. On this day in 1945, the Indian Independence Act i.e. the Bill of Independence of India was passed in the British Parliament.

1954 US, Britain and France agree on partition of Vietnam in Geneva.

1962 In an unprecedented move, British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan sacked his ministers.

1971 Moroccan rebel leaders were executed.

India played its first ODI against England in 1974 at Headingley.

1975 Tushar Hiranandani, noted Bollywood film story writer, was born.

Civil honors like Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan etc. given during the 1977 Emergency were taken back by the Janata Party government.

1981 Sonal Sehgal, a well-known beautiful and bold model and film actress, was born in Chandigarh.

1984 Urvashi Sharma, well-known beautiful and bold model and film actress, was born in Delhi. On this day in 1984, Monami Ghosh, a well-known beautiful and bold model and Bengali film and television actress and model, was born in Basirhat, West Bengal.

1995 Ashapurna Devi, a well-known novelist and story writer, passed away.

1998 Renowned Indian tennis player Leander Paes won the first ATP title of his life in the Hall of Fame Tennis Championship. Won the title, Brazil won the C.T.B.T. and N.P.T. signed at.
