1844 आधुनिक हिंदी साहित्य के शिखर पुरुषों में से एक बालकृष्ण भट्ट का जन्म हुआ।

1856 क्यूलन व्हिपल ने स्क्रू मशीन का पेटेंट हासिल किया।

1867 भारत के प्रसिद्ध शिक्षाविद, राजनेता, समाज सुधारक, न्यायविद और लेखक हरविलास शारदा का जन्म हुआ।

1890 खुदाई खिदमतगार और सीमांत गांधी कहे गये खान अब्दुल गफ्फार खान का जन्म हुआ।

1895 मैसूर (कर्नाटक) के प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ केएम पणिक्कर का जन्म हुआ।

1901 प्रमुख मलयालम कवि और कविता के लिए प्रथम ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले जी शंकर कुरूप का जन्म हुआ। 

1915 ब्रिटिश सरकार ने रविंद्रनाथ टैगोर को नाइटहुड की उपाधि प्रदान की। 13 अप्रैल 1919 के जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार के बाद टैगोर ने अंग्रेज सरकार को विरोध स्वरूप यह उपाधि लौटा दी।

1918 महात्मा गांधी की अध्यक्षता में इंदौर में आयोजित हिंदी साहित्य सम्मेलन में पारित एक प्रस्ताव के जरिये हिंदी राजभाषा मानी गयी।

1924 तमिलनाडु के प्रमुख राजनेता और मुख्यमंत्री रहे एम करुणानिधि का जन्म हुआ।

1930 लंबे समय तक भारत के प्रमुख समाजवादी नेता रहे और जीवन के अंतिम दिनों में भाजपा के साथ जा कर केंद्र सरकार में मंत्री हुए जॉर्ज फर्नांडिस का जन्म हुआ।

1936 प्रमुख भारतीय खान-पानी विशेषज्ञा एवं लेखिका तरला दलाल का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1940 जानी मानी भारतीय सामाजिक, मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता और सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता, विधि विशेषज्ञ इंदिरा जयसिंह का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1941 भारत की प्रसिद्ध महिला न्यायधीश रही रूमा पाल का जन्म हुआ।

1943 संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने राहत और पुनर्वास प्रशासन की स्थापना की। इसी दिन मशहूर फिल्म संगीतकार हुए इल्लयाराजा का जन्म हुआ।

1947 ब्रिटिश राज में भारत के आखिरी वायसरॉय लॉर्ड माउंटबेटन ने भारत के बंटवारे का आधिकारिक ऐलान किया।

1949 प्रमुख भारतीय वामपंथी नेता और भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के महा सचिव डी राजा यानी दुरईस्वामी राजा का जन्म वेलूर, तमिलनाडु में हुआ।

1959 सिंगापुर को सेल्फ गर्वनिंग स्टेट यानी स्वशासित राज्य घोषित किया गया। 

1962 एयर फ्रांस की फ्लाइट 007 ओर्ली एयरपोर्ट पर क्रैश हो गई। विमान में सवार 132 यात्रियों में से 130 की मौत हो गई। 

1965 दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों मलयालम, तमिल, तेलुगू, कन्नड़ एवं हिंदी आदि की प्रमुख खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री राधा के नाम से सुपरिचित उदय चंद्रिका का जन्म तिरुअनंतपुरम में हुआ। इसी दिन एड व्हाइट स्पेस में चलने वाले पहले अमेरिकी एस्ट्रोनॉट बने।

1967 हरियाणा सरकार में मंत्री रहे, प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेता और मुख्य प्रवक्ता, राज्य सभा सदस्य रणदीप सिंह सुरजेवाला का जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआ।

1974 बिहार के प्रमुख राजनेता, मुख्यमंत्री रहे एवं स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रहे कृष्ण बल्लभ सहाय का निधन हुआ।

1976 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड एवं जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल पूनम नरूला का जन्म हुआ।

1984 ऑपरेशन ब्लू स्टार शुरू किया था। पंजाब के अमृतसर में स्थित हरिमंदिर साहिब यानी स्वर्ण मंदिर परिसर पर मुख्य खालिस्तानी नेता जरनैल सिंह भिंडरावाले और उनके समर्थकों ने कब्जा कर लिया था। स्वर्ण मंदिर को खालिस्तानियों के कब्जे से मुक्त कराने के लिए शुरू ऑपरेशन 3 दिनों तक चला। सैकड़ों लोगों की मौत हुई। इनमें सेना के जवान और अधिकारी भी मारे गये।

1989 जापान के एनालॉग शहर में दुनिया का पहला एचडीटीवी प्रसारण शुरू किया गया।

1994 भारत सहायता क्लब का नया नाम भारत सहायता मंच किया गया। इसी दिन श्वेत क्रान्ति के जनक कहे गये त्रिभुवनदास कृषिभाई पटेल का निधन हुआ।

1999 हावरक्राफ्ट विमानों के अविष्कारक क्रिसटोफर काकरैल का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन यूगोस्लाविया द्वारा कोसोवो शांति योजना को मंजूरी। 1999 में इसी दिन मिस्र के राष्ट्रपति हुश्नी मोबारक लगातार चैथी बार राष्ट्रपति चुने गये। 1999 में इसी दिन कारगिल युद्ध में पाकिस्तानी सीमा में पकड़े गये भारतीय फ्लाइट कैप्टन नचिकेता राव को पाकिस्तान ने भारत को सौंपा।

2001 मराठी सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड एवं लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल रिंकू राजगुरु महादेव राजगुरु का जन्म अकलुज, सोलापुर, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

2004 केन फोर्ड नासा के अंतरिक्ष खोज पैनल के नेतृत्वकर्ता बने।

2005 फ्रांस ने सुरक्षा परिषद में भारत की दावेदारी का समर्थन किया।

2006 पाकिस्तान सरकार ने दा विंची कोड फिल्म पर प्रतिबंध लगाया। बताया गया कि दा विंची कोड में यीशु के बारे में निंदात्मक सामग्री शामिल है। दा विंची कोड एक 2006 अमेरिकी रहस्य-थ्रिलर फिल्म है, जो जॉन केली और ब्रायन ग्रेजर द्वारा निर्मित और रॉन हॉवर्ड द्वारा निर्देशित है। इसकी पटकथा अकिवा गोल्डस्मैन ने लिखी थी और डैन ब्राउन के 2003 में इसी नाम के सबसे अधिक बिकने वाले उपन्यास का फिल्मी रूपांतरण है। फिल्म में टॉम हैंक्स, ऑड्रे टुटौ, इयान मैककेलेन, अल्फ्रेड मोलिना, जुरगेन प्रांचो, जीन रेनो और पॉल बेट्टनी जैसे कलाकार हैं।

2008 तेलंगाना राष्ट्र समिति अध्यक्ष के. चन्द्रशेखर राव ने उपचुनाव में करारी हार के बाद अपने पद से इस्तीफा दिया। इसी दिन केंद्र सरकार ने सीमेंट निर्यात पर रिफंड को दी गई मंजूरी वापस ली। इसी दिन जापानी की एक प्रयोगशाला के साथ अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा का डिस्कवरी यान 2008 में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन पहुँचा।

2009 प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेत्री मीरा कुमार को लोकसभा स्पीकर चुना गया। वे लोकसभा की पहली महिला स्पीकर बनीं। 2009 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी लेखिका मर्लिन रॉबिन्सन को  उनके उपन्यास होम के लिए फिक्शन के लिए ऑरेंज पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया। मर्लिन सुमेर रॉबिन्सन (जन्म 26 नवंबर, 1943) जानी मानी अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार और निबंधकार हैं। उन्हें 2005 में फिक्शन के लिए पत्रकारिता का सर्वोच्च पुलित्जर पुरस्कार और 2012 के राष्ट्रीय मानविकी पदक सहित कई पुरस्कार मिल चुके हैं।

2013 उत्तर-पूर्वी चीन के जिलिन प्रांत में एक मुर्गी फार्म में आग लगने से 119 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2014 केंद्रीय मंत्री गोपीनाथ मुंडे का सड़क हादसे में निधन हुआ। 2014 में इसी दिन हाशिम अमला दक्षिण अफ्रीकी राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट टीम के पहले अश्वेत कप्तान बनाए गए। हाशिम मोहम्मद अमला (जन्म 31 मार्च 1983) प्रसिद्ध दक्षिण अफ्रीकी क्रिकेटर हैं।

2016 पूर्व अमेरिकी पेशेवर बॉक्सर मुहम्मद अली का निधन हुआ।

2018 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने 3 जून को विश्व साइकिल दिवस मनाने की घोषणा की। साइकिल दिवस मनाए जाने के लिए अमेरिका के मोंटगोमरी कॉलेज के प्रोफेसर लेस्जेक सिबिल्सकी ने याचिका दी थी। इसके बाद सिबिल्सकी और उनके साथियों द्वारा प्रचार - प्रसार किया गया। जिसके बाद इस दिन को मनाने का निर्णय लिया। इसका मकसद था साइकिल के फायदों के प्रति जनजागरूकता बढ़ाना और पेट्रोल, डीजल चालित वाहनों पर निर्भता कम करना। मालूम हो कि साइकिल सबसे सस्ता वाहन है। इसके एक नहीं अनेक फायदे हैं। पेट्रोल की खपत नहीं होती, पर्यावरण दृष्टि से सुरक्षित है, एक्सरसाइज करने के लिए बेस्ट है, इम्युनिटी भी बढ़ती है। रोज साइकिल चलाने से फैट जल्दी कम होता है, बॉडी फिट रहती है। साइकिल चलाने से इम्यून सिस्टम अच्छा तो होता है साथ ही इम्यून सेल्स भी एक्टिव हो जाते हैं। इससे बीमारी का खतरा भी कम होता है। बढ़ी उम्र में घुटने की समस्या नहीं हो इसलिए साइकिल रोज चलाना चाहिए। इससे किसी प्रकार के जोड़ों में दर्द नहीं होगा। साइकिल चलाने से दिमाग ज्यादा एक्टिव रहता है। ब्रेन पावर बढ़ता है, 15 से 20 फीसदी अधिक दिमाग सक्रिय होता है। शुगर के मरीजों की रोज साइकिल चलाने से शुगर नियंत्रित रहती है। बचत की नजर से यह काफी अच्छा और सस्ता साधन है।

1967 Minister in Haryana Government, prominent Congress leader and chief spokesperson, Rajya Sabha member Randeep Singh Surjewala was born in Chandigarh.

1974 Krishna Ballabh Sahai, prominent politician, chief minister and freedom fighter of Bihar, passed away.

1976 Poonam Narula, beautiful, bold and well-known television actress and model, was born.

1984 Operation Blue Star was launched. The Harimandir Sahib i.e. the Golden Temple complex located in Amritsar, Punjab was captured by the main Khalistani leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his supporters. The operation started to free the Golden Temple from the occupation of Khalistanis lasted for 3 days. Hundreds of people died. Army soldiers and officers were also killed in these.

He has received several awards, including the highest award in journalism, the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2005 and the 2012 National Humanities Medal.

2013 A fire at a chicken farm in Jilin province, north-eastern China, kills 119 people.

2014 Union Minister Gopinath Munde died in a road accident. On this day in 2014, Hashim Amla became the first black captain of the South African national cricket team. Hashim Mohammed Amla (born 31 March 1983) is a famous South African cricketer.

2016 Muhammad Ali, former American professional boxer, passed away.

In 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day. The petition was given by Professor Leszek Sibilski of Montgomery College, America, to celebrate Bicycle Day. This was followed by propaganda by Sibylski and his associates. After which it was decided to celebrate this day.
