1838 यूनाइटेड किंगडम की रानी विक्टोरिया का राज्याभिषेक हुआ। विक्टोरिया अपनी मृत्यु तक यूनाइटेड किंगडम ऑफ ग्रेट ब्रिटेन और आयरलैंड की रानी रहीं। 1 मई 1876 से, उन्होंने भारत की महारानी के अतिरिक्त दायित्व का भी निर्वहन किया।

1846 बेल्जियम के प्रसिद्ध शहनाई वादक एडोल्फ सैक्स को सैक्सोफोन के लिए पेटेंट मिला।

1857 बिठूर में नाना साहेब ने खुद को पेशवा घोषित किया। उन्होंने अंग्रेजों को भारत से उखाड़ फेंकने का आह्वान भी किया।

1873 जीवित अंगों को सुरक्षित रखने की खोज करनेवाले जीव विज्ञानी एलेक्स कार्ल का जन्म हुआ।

1884 महिलाओं के अधिकार के लिए नार्वे एसोसिएशन की स्थापना की गयी।

1894 अमेरिका में श्रम दिवस के मौके पर आधिकारिक अवकाश घोषित किया गया।

1940 प्रसिद्ध बांग्लादेशी अर्थशास्त्री और नोबेल विजेता मोहम्मद युनुस का जन्म हुआ।

1941 जर्मन और रोमानियाई सैनिकों ने रूसी साम्राज्य के बेस्सारेबिया प्रांत की राजधानी किशिनेव में 11 हजार यहूदियों की हत्या कर दी। जर्मनी की सेना ने इसी दिन पोलैंड के गैलिसिया पर कब्जा किया।

1949 भारतीय सिनेमा और टेलीविजन के जाने माने अभिनेता राजीव वर्मा का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन भारत की प्रमुख आर्कीटेक्ट और ग्रामीण विकास की विशेषज्ञ बृंदा सौम्या का जन्म हुआ।

1950 कोरिया युद्ध के दौरान एक से दो लाख लोगों की बोडो लीग नरसंहार में हत्या केवल इस संदेह में कर दी गयी कि उन्होंने वामपंथियों के प्रति नरम रूख अपनाया।

1952 बड़ी संख्या वाली दक्षिण अफ्रीकी अश्वेत जनता के अधिकारों के लिए आंदोलन करने वाले नेता नेल्सन मंडेला को गोरी अंग्रेज सरकार ने पहली बार जेल में डाला।

1956 मजदूरों के शोषण, उत्पीड़न के खिलाफ आंदोलन कर रहे श्रमिकों ने पोलैंड में बड़े पैमाने पर विरोध प्रदर्शन किया, लेकिन अगले दिन 400 टैंकों सहित पोलिश पीपुल्स आर्मी और आंतरिक सुरक्षा कोर के सैनिकों ने श्रमिकों का बर्बरतापूर्ण दमन कर प्रदर्शन तितर-बितर करा दिया।

1958 भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के अफसर विभिन्न महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर रहने के बाद उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्य सचिव रहे राजीव कुमार का जन्म बुलंदशहर में हुआ।

1960 वेल्स के मोनमाउथशर स्थित एक कोयला खदान में गैस विस्फोट से 37 खनिकों की मौत हो गई।

1965 पहली कमर्शियल सैटेलाइट अर्ली बर्ड ने कम्यूनिकेशन सर्विस शुरू की।

1969 न्यूयॉर्क शहर के स्टोनवेल इन में एक पुलिस छापे के जवाब में,समलैंगिक और ट्रांसजेंडर लोगों के समूह न्यूयॉर्क शहर के पुलिस अधिकारियों से भिड़ गये जो दुनिया भर में समलैंगिकता आंदोलन के लिए प्रेरित करने वाली सबसे बड़ी घटना थी।

1971 दुनिया के दिग्गज अमीरों में से एक पिछले काफी समय से बहुचर्चित अमेरिकी कारोबारी ट्विटर, टेस्ला, स्पेसएक्स इत्यादि के मालिक एलन रीव मस्क का जन्म प्रिटोरिया, दक्षिण अफ्रीका में हुआ।

1972 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय वैज्ञानिक एवं सांख्यिकीविद पी. सी. महालनोबिस का निधन हुआ।

1973 जाने माने संगीतकार, गीतकार और गायक विशाल ददलानी का जन्म हुआ।

1975 भारत की केंद्र सरकार ने आपातकाल के दौरान सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शनों की पृष्ठभूमि में सबसे कठोर प्रेस सेंसरशिप लागू किया।

1976 लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकन फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल कैमिली गुएटी काये का जन्म सन्नीवेल कैलीफोर्निया में हुआ। इसी दिन भारत के प्रसिद्ध निशानेबाज जसपाल राणा का जन्म हुआ। 1976 में इसी दिन अमेरिका के एयरफोर्स एकेडमी में पहली महिला को प्रवेश मिला।

1981 ईरान में एक हमले में 74 सरकारी अधिकारियों की मौत हो गयी। चीन ने इसी दिन कैलाश और मानसरोवर के लिये सड़क मार्ग खोला।

1983 जाने माने कांग्रेस नेता और उच्चतम न्यायालय में अधिवक्ता जयवीर शेरगिल का जन्म जालंधर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1986 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा और टेलीविजन की चर्चित अभिनेत्री और माॅडल निशा कृष्णन का जन्म हुआ। 1986 में इसी दिन अविवाहित लड़कियों को भी मातृत्व अवकाश देने का केंद्र सरकार ने कानून बनाया।

1988 जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल विवियन डिसेना का जन्म उज्जैन, मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ।

1989 सर्बिया के राष्ट्रपति स्लोबोदान मिलोएविच ने भाषण दिया जिसमें उन्होंने सर्बिया के राष्ट्रीय विकास के लिए भविष्य में सशस्त्र संघर्ष के लिए लोगों को तैयार रहने का आह्वान किया।

1990 जानी मानी बोल्ड और खूबसूरत फिल्म तथा माॅडल अभिनेत्री जसमीन भसीन का जन्म कोटा, राजस्थान में हुआ।

1995 मरियप्पन थंगावेलु का जन्म हुआ वे भारत के ऊँची कूद के प्रसिद्ध खिलाड़ी हैं। इसी दिन मध्य प्रदेश को बाघों के शिकारियों से बचाने व उन्हें आश्रय देने हेतु टाइगर स्टेट के रूप में घोषित किया।

1996 फलस्तीनी नियंत्रण वाले गाजा सिटी में भारत ने अपना मिशन खोला।

1999 भारत सरकार ने बीमा के बारे में जनजागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए राष्ट्रीय बीमा जागरूकता दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत की। इसी दिन रोमानिया ने अपनी वायु सेना में रूसी विमानों की उड़ान पर रोक लगाई।

2007 जापान के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री किची मियाजावा का निधन हुआ था। वे 1992 में प्रधानमंत्री थे और भ्रष्टाचार के आरोपों के चलते उन्हें पद छोड़ना पड़ा था। आईफोन के नाम से जाना जाने वाला ऐपल का पहला स्मार्टफोन 2007 में 28 जून को बाजार में पेश किया गया।

2008 बैंक आफ इंडिया के अध्यक्ष एवं प्रबंध निदेशक टीएस नारायण स्वामी को इंडियन बैंकर्स एसोसिएशन का अध्यक्ष चुना गया। इसी दिन लंदन में एक समारोह में प्रसिद्ध हिंदी लेखिका नासिरा शर्मा को 2008 में इसी दिन उनके उपन्यास कुईयां जान के लिए 14वां अंतर्राष्ट्रीय इंदुशर्मा कथा सम्मान प्रदान किया गया। इसी दिन वेतन आयोग ने पत्रकार व गैरपत्रकार कर्मचारियों को 8 जनवरी, 2008 को मूल वेतन पर 30 प्रतिशत की अंतरिम राहत देने की सिफारिश की।

2009 होंडुरास के राष्ट्रपति मैनुअल जेलया को सैन्य बलों ने तख्तापलट कर हटा दिया।

2010 हावड़ा से मुंबई (कुर्ला) जा रही मिदनापुर जिले में हावड़ा कुर्ला लोकमान्य तिलक ज्ञानेश्वरी सुपर डीलक्स एक्सप्रेस के 13 डिब्बे पटरी से उतर गए जिन्हें विपरीत दिशा से आ रही एक मालगाड़ी ने जोरदार टक्कर मारी जिससे 149 यात्रियों की मौत हो गई और 100 से अधिक घायल हो गए।

2012 भारत के प्रसिद्ध हिंदी लेखक, कवि, उपन्यासकार और संपादक अमर गोस्वामी का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन इराक में हुए सिलसिलेवार बम धमाके में 14 लोग मारे गये और 50 से ज्यादा घायल हुए।

2021 फ्रांस के राष्ट्रीय बिजली सुरक्षा परिषद की पहल पर विश्व मौसम विज्ञान संगठन ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बिजली सुरक्षा दिवस मनाया, जिसमें आकाशीय बिजली से उत्पन्न चुनौतियों के प्रति नागरिकों और सार्वजनिक अधिकारियों के बीच जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए काम करने जरूरत पर बल दिया गया। फ्रांस ने यह आयोजन उस दुखद घटना की 10वीं बरसी जिसमें रून्यान्या, युगांडा के एक स्कूल के 18 छात्रों की उनके स्कूल पर बिजली गिरने से मौत हो गई थी। अमेरिका में आकाशीय बिजली से हर साल एक हजार से अधिक लोगों की मौत होती है। इससे बचाव और अन्य सुरक्षा उपायों पर चर्चा करने तथा जनता को जागरूक करने के लिए 2001 से अमेरिका में लाइटनिंग अवेयरनेस वीक आयोजित किया जाता है।
