1873 कलकत्ता की प्रमुख थिएटर एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री, नर्तकी और गायिका एवं तवायफ हुईं गौहर जान (वास्तविक नाम एंजेलीना येवार्ड, पिता राबर्ट विलियम येवार्ड एवं मां एडलिन विक्टोरिया हेमिंग्स, मूल देश अर्मेनिया) का जन्म आज़मगढ़ में हुआ। गौहर जान 78आरपीएम रिकॉर्ड पर संगीत रिकॉर्ड करने वाली भारत की पहली कलाकार थीं जिसे ग्रामोफोन रिकॉर्ड पर ग्रामोफोन कंपनी ने जारी किया।

1886 फ्रांसीसी रसायनविद हेनरी मोइसन ने प्रयोग कर बताया कि मौलिक फ्लोरीन को अलग-थलग किया जा सकता है। इस खोज के लिए उन्हें रसायन विज्ञान का नोबल पुरस्कार मिला।

1888 मराठी रंगमंच के शीर्ष नर्तक और प्रसिद्ध गायक बाल गंधर्व यानी नारायण श्रीपद राजहंस का जन्म नागठाणे में हुआ। 1888 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, कारोबारी और सेठ घनश्याम दास बिड़ला का जन्म पिलानी में हुआ।

1894 जर्मनी के कार्ल बेंज ने गैस से चलने वाले ऑटो का अमेरिकी पेटेंट हासिल किया।

1906 पहला ग्रैंड प्रिक्स मोटर रेसिंग इवेंट 26 जूंन फ्रांस के ली मैंस शहर के बाहर बंद सार्वजनिक सड़कों पर आयोजित किया गया। ग्रैंड प्रिक्स का आयोजन ऑटोमोबाइल क्लब डी फ्रांस द्वारा गॉर्डन बेनेट दौड़ के विकल्प के रूप में फ्रेंच ऑटोमोबाइल उद्योग की पहल पर किया गया था।

1916 ग्वालियर राजघराने में महाराजा हुए जीवाजीराव सिंधिया का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन विख्यात भारतीय विदेश सेवा अधिकारी, भारत के तुर्की, इंडोनेशिया, इराक और स्पेन में राजदूत हुए मोहम्मद यूनुस खान का जन्म एब्बोटाबाद, पाकिस्तान में हुआ था।

1941 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान फिनलैंड ने रूस के खिलाफ युद्ध का ऐलान किया।

1987 वियना में 26 जून को आयोजित संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा की बैठक में नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग और अवैध तस्करी पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन में दो महत्वपूर्ण प्रस्तावों (ड्रग अबाउट कंट्रोल में भविष्य की गतिविधियों की व्यापक बहु-विषयक रूपरेखा और नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग तथा अवैध तस्करी पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन की घोषणा) को अपनाया गया था। सम्मेलन ने सिफारिश की कि नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग और अवैध तस्करी के खिलाफ लड़ाई के महत्त्व को चिह्नित करने के लिए एक वार्षिक दिवस मनाया जाना चाहिए। 17 जून और 26 जून दोनों तिथियों का सुझाव दिया गया था, और बाद की बैठकों में 26 जून को चुना गया।

अवैध नशीली दवाओं के उत्पादन, व्यापार और उपयोग के खिलाफ एक संयुक्त राष्ट्र अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस है। यह 1989 से 26 जून को प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है। 26 जून की तारीख लिन जेक्सू के हुमेन, ग्वांगडोंग में अफीम व्यापार को समाप्त करने की याद में है, जो चीन में पहले अफीम युद्ध से ठीक पहले 25 जून, 1839 को समाप्त हुआ था। 7 दिसंबर 1987 के महासभा संकल्प 42/112 द्वारा इसके पालन की व्यवस्था की गई।

1993 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी शिवम दुबे का जन्म हुआ।

1994 फिलिस्तीनी मुक्ति संगठन पीएलओ नेता यासिर अराफात 27 साल बाद गाजा वापस लौटे।

1996 आयरलैंड में एक अपराधिक मामलों की रिपोर्टर वेरोनिका गुएरिन की हत्या एक ट्रैफिक लाइट पर रुकने के दौरान की गई। बाद में आंदोलन के परिणामस्वरूप सरकार को आयरलैंड में क्रिमिनल एसेट्स ब्यूरो गठित करना पड़ा।

1998 यातना / अत्याचार पीड़ितों के समर्थन में पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस 26 जून को आयोजित किया गया। संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने सभी सरकारों, हितधारकों और वैश्विक समाज के सदस्यों से इस कुकृत्य के खिलाफ खड़े होने की अपील की और दुनिया के कोने-कोने में अत्याचार करने वालों और इसे अंजाम देने वालों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करने के लिए कहा। 12 दिसंबर, 1997 को, संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने एक प्रस्ताव पारित किया, जिसमें 26 जून को अत्याचार के पीड़ितों के समर्थन में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस मनाना तय किया गया।

2004 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म निर्माता यश जौहर का निधन हुआ। पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री जफरुल्ला जमाली के इस्तीफे के बाद इसी दिन शुजात हुसैन नये कार्यवाहक प्रधानमंत्री बने।

2006 पूर्वी तिमोर की पहली महिला प्रधानमंत्री मारी अलकातिरी ने राजनीतिक अशांति के बाद इस्तीफा दिया।

2008 बहुर्राष्ट्रीय कंपनी रियोरिटो ने मध्य प्रदेश के बुंदेलखंड क्षेत्र में छतरपुर जिले में हीरा खनन के लिए खनिज पट्टा यानी माइनिंग लीज हासिल कर बंदर डायमंड प्रोजेक्ट शुरू करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन बिजली परियोजनाओं के लिए कास्टिंग फोर्जिंग एवं बेलेंस आफ प्लाट उपकरण बनाने के लिए एनटीपीसी व भारत फोर्ज ने बीएफ-एनटीपीसी एनर्जी सिस्टम लिमिटेड नाम से संयुक्त उद्यम बनाया।

2013 उत्तराखंड में एक बचाव हेलीकॉप्टर के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से 20 लोग मारे गये।

2015 कुवैत की शिया इमाम अल सादिक मस्जिद में एक आत्मघाती हमले में 27 लोगों की मौत हो गयी तथा 227 लोग घायल हो गये।

2018 प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने मुंबई में एशियाई ढांचागत निवेश बैंक- ए.आई.आई.बी. के तीसरे वार्षिक सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया।

Declaration of the International Convention) was adopted. The conference recommended that an annual day should be observed to mark the importance of the fight against drug abuse and illegal trafficking. Both June 17 and June 26 were suggested dates, and June 26 was chosen in subsequent meetings.
