1903 विख्यात भारतीय बाॅडीबिल्डर और हठयोगी बिष्णु चरण घोस का जन्म लाहौर में हुआ। यह प्रसिद्ध भारतीय योगी परमहंस योगानंद के भाई थे।

1904 विश्व प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी गायक, अभिनेता और हास्य कलाकार फिल हैरिस का जन्म हुआ।

1918 कनाडा में मॉन्ट्रियल से टोरंटो के बीच पहली एयरमेल सेवा शुरु हुई।

1922 विख्यात इतालवी गायक और गीतकार (क्वारटेट्टोसेट्रा) टाटा जायकोबेट्टी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन वेमर गणराज्य के विदेश मंत्री वाल्टर रथेनाउ की हत्या हुई। हत्यारों को 17 जुलाई को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया।

1927 प्रख्यात भारतीय कवि, दार्शनिक, गीतकार, फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक इत्यादि बहुप्रतिभा संपन्न कन्नादासन का जन्म तमिलनाडु के सिरुकोडलपट्टी में हुआ। कन्नादासन आधुनिक तमिल भाषा के सबसे प्रारंभिक महत्वपूर्ण, प्रतिष्ठित लेखक माने जाते हैं। उन्हें कविअरासु प्रसिद्ध अधिक हुए। इनके उपन्यास चेरमान कादली के लिये उन्हें 1980 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1937 कांग्रेस नेता और बिहार के कई बार मुख्यमंत्री रहे, खुद पत्रकार और प्रकाशक रहे स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता के विरोधी प्रेस को नियंत्रित करने को बिहार प्रेस बिल लाने वाले जगन्नाथ मिश्रा का जन्म हुआ।

1937 वैश्विक पहचान रखने वाली भारतीय अंग्रेजी साहित्यकार लेखिका अनीता मजूमदार और शादी के बाद अनीता देसाई का जन्म मसूरी में हुआ। इन्हें भारत ने पद्मभूषण सम्मान प्रदान किया। इनकी बेटी किरण देसाई भी जानी मानी लेखिका हैं।

1938 पाकिस्तान के विख्यात फिल्म अभिनेता सुल्तान राही का जन्म सहारनपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1940 तेलुगु सिनेमा के लोकप्रिय अभिनेता, निर्माता, राजनीतिज्ञ, लोकसभा सांसद और बिजनेस एक्जीक्यूटिव मगंती मुरली मोहन जन्म छातापारु में हुआ। 1973 में मुरली मोहन ने अटलुरी पूर्णचंद्र राव द्वारा निर्मित जगमे माया में डेब्यू किया। उन्हें 1974 में दसारी नारायण राव द्वारा निर्देशित फिल्म तिरुपति से खास पहचान मिली। उन्होंने 350 से अधिक फीचर फिल्मों में अभिनय किया है।

1948 विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन की पहली विश्व स्वास्थ्य परिषद जीनेवा में आयोजित की गई।

1950 प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान उन चंद भारतीय सैनिकों में से एक जिन्हें ब्रिटिश राज का सबसे बड़ा युद्ध पुरस्कार विक्टोरिया क्रॉस मिला सैनिक दरबान सिंह नेगी का निधन हुआ।

1961 भारत के पहले स्वदेशी एचएफ 24 सुपरसोनिक लड़ाकू विमान ने उड़ान भरी।

1950 Darban Singh Negi, one of the few Indian soldiers to receive the Victoria Cross, the highest war award of the British Raj during World War I, passed away.
