217 द्वितीय पुनिक वार में द कार्थागियंस ने हनीवेल के नेतृत्व में इतिहास में सबसे बड़े सैन्य हमले को अंजाम देते हुए रोमनों को बुरी तरह परास्त किया।

1527 इटली के विश्व विख्यात राजनयिक एवं राजनैतिक दार्शनिक, संगीतज्ञ, कवि एवं नाटककार निकोलो मैकियावेली का निधन हुआ।

1576 मुगल सेना ने हल्दीघाटी की लड़ाई में महाराणा प्रताप यानी प्रताप सिंह सिसौदिया को परास्त किया, राणा की फौज ने हार देखते हुए राणा को पीछे भेज दिया जिससे वे बच सकें।

1734 गुलामी और अमानवीय यातनाओं के विरुद्ध संघर्षरत एक काले गुलाम मैरी-जोसेफ एंग्लिक को मॉन्ट्रियल, कनाडा में आगजनी का दोषी करार देते हुए न्यू फ्रांस में फांसी के फंदे पर लटका दिया गया।

1756 जॉन जेड हाॅलवेल के नेतृत्व वाली अंग्रेज सैन्य टुकड़ी ने बंगाल के नबाव सिराजउद्दौला के समक्ष आत्मसमर्पण किया। उसी रात एक नृशंस घटना में 123 अंग्रेज कैदियों की मौत हो गयी।

1768 जॉन आर्चर मेडिकल में बैचलर डिग्री हासिल करने वाले पहले अमेरिकी बने।

1796 ब्रिटिश खोजी, घुमक्कड़, नाविक मुन्गो पार्क नाइजर नदी तक पहुंचने वाले पहले यूरोपीय बन गए।

1826 लॉर्ड डफरिन का जन्म हुआ। वह लॉर्ड रिपन के बाद भारत का वायसराय बनकर आए थे।

1862 ज्ञानेंद्र मोहन टैगोर लंदन के लिंकंस इन से वकालत की डिग्री हासिल करने वाले प्रथम भारतीय बने।

1898 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने स्पेन को हराकर गुआम पर कब्जा किया।

1905 सरकार और पूंजीवादियों के द्वारा जनता के शोषण, उत्पीड़न के खिलाफ लिखने वाले साहित्य का नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता ज्यां-पाल सार्त्र का जन्म हुआ।

1911 जहाज आरएमएस ओलंपिक ने 5 दिनों, 16 घंटे और 42 मिनट की यात्रा के बाद न्यूयॉर्क पहुंचकर अपनी पहली ट्रांसअटलांटिक यात्रा पूरी की।

1912 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी साहित्यकार, नाटककार, कवि और कहानीकार विष्णु प्रभाकर का जन्म हुआ।

1927 रेमन मैग्सेसे पुरस्कार प्राप्त जाने माने अंग्रेजी भारतीय पत्रकार बी.जी.वर्गीज का जन्म हुआ।

1932 बेहद बोल्ड, बहुप्रतिभासम्पन्न लोकप्रिय फिल्म अभिनेत्री, आग, महल, पतंगा, मिर्जा गालिब, दो कलियां जैसी तमाम लोकप्रिय फिल्मों में काम करने वाली निगार सुल्ताना का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ। यह कालजयी फिल्म मुगले आजम बनाने वाले फिल्मकार के आसिफ की पत्नी थीं। इसी दिन ब्रजभाषा के आधुनिक युग के श्रेष्ठ कवि कहे गये जगन्नाथदास रत्नाकर का निधन हुआ।

1933 भारत के प्रसिद्ध लेखक, उपन्यासकार, नाटककार, आलोचक तथा व्यंग्यकार मुद्राराक्षस का जन्म हुआ।

1940 राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के संस्थापक केशव बलिराम हेडगेवार का निधन हुआ। इनकी विचारधारा इटली के कुख्यात तानाशाह बेनीटो मुसोलिनी और कुख्यात जर्मन तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर से प्रेरित थी। और उसी तरह का एजेंडा लेकर भारतीय जनता पार्टी आगे बढ़ती गई। आज नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में भारत में चल रहा फासीवाद पूरी दुनिया में जाना समझा जा रहा है।

1944 बर्लिन पर भारी मात्रा में बमबारी की गई।

1947 कनाडा की संसद ने एकमत होकर शरणार्थियों को देश से बाहर करने का कानून पास किया।

1948 सी. राजगोपालाचारी भारत के अंतिम गर्वनर जनरल बने। इसी दिन इंग्लैंड के मैनचेस्टर में स्माल-स्केल एक्सपेरिमेंटल मशीन यानी प्रथम कंप्यूटर प्रोग्राम चलाया गया।

1949 राजस्थान उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना हुई।

1953 दो बार पाकिस्तान की प्रधानमंत्री बनने वाली बेनजीर भुट्टो का जन्म हुआ था। इनके पिता जुल्फिकार अली भुट्टो को सैन्य तानाशाह जनरल जिया उल हक ने फांसी दे दी थी। 

1957 एलेन फेयरक्लो ने कनाडा की पहली महिला कैबिनेट मंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली।

1958 जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड चरित्र अभिनेत्री एवं थिएटर कलाकार रीमा लागू का जन्म हुआ। इनको ज्यादातर लोग मां की भूमिका के लिए याद करते हैं।

1963 कार्डिनल जियोवानी बैट्टिस्टा मोंटिनी पोप पॉल षष्ठम चुने गए।

1967 थाईलैंड की प्रथम महिला प्रधानमंत्री यिंगलक शिनावात्रा का जन्म हुआ।

1970 इंडोनेशिया के प्रथम राष्ट्रपति सुकर्णो का जन्म हुआ।

1971 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और निर्देशिका मृणाल कुलकर्णी का जन्म हुआ।

1975 वेस्टइंडीज की टीम ने पहला वर्ल्ड कप जीता।

1977 जानी मानी भारतीय नृत्यांगना और फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल मुक्ति मोहन का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन मुस्तफा बुलेंट एसविट ने तुर्की में सरकार का गठन किया।

21 जून को दुनिया भर में विश्व संगीत दिवस मनाया जाता है। संगीत की महिमा अपरंपार है। संगीत दुनिया भर में पसंद किया जाता है। हर व्यक्ति संगीत से प्रभावित होता है। एक चीज आपने सुनी होगी, जब रोम जल रहा था, तब नीरो बांसुरी बजा रहा था। इसमें दो बातें हैं। बांसुरी का तब आविष्कार नहीं हुआ था। नीरो काफी क्रूर हो गया था अपने आखिरी दिनों में। वह कहीं आग लगवा देता, कहीं दंगे करवा देता और कोई वाद्य यंत्र बजाते हुए खुश होता था, लोगों की चीख-पुकार सुनते हुए। संगीत बीमार को ठीक करने, अशांत मन को शांत करने, थकान उतारने सहित अन्य तमाम कार्यों में भी इस्तेमाल होता है। सामान्य आदमी से लेकर वैज्ञानिक, राजनेता, प्रशासक, ठेकेदार, व्यापारी-कारोबारी, अभिनेता, बदमाश, माफिया तक लगभग सभी संगीत सुनते हैं। संगीत संपूर्ण जगत में विद्यमान है। इसलिए इसका खास महत्व है। संगीत दुनिया भर में करोड़ों लोगों को रोजगार देता है। तो बहुत कुछ निर्भर है संगीत पर। इसलिए शायद संगीत पर विविध विषयक बातें करने के लिए संगीत दिवस मनाने की जरूरत पड़ी। खैर इसकी शुरुआत फ्रांस से हुई जहां 1982 में पहली बार विश्व संगीत दिवस मनाया गया। फ्रांस के तब के सांस्कृतिक मंत्री जैक लैंग ने देश के लोगों की संगीत के प्रति दीवानगी को देखते हुए संगीत दिवस मनाने की घोषणा कर दी। इस दिन को फ्रांसीसी भाषा में फेटे ला म्यूजिक कहा गया। फ्रांस के 1982 के पहले संगीत दिवस को 32 से ज्यादा देशों का समर्थन मिला। फ्रांस ने इसे राजकीय जश्न की तरह मनाया। अगले वर्ष से भारत सहित इटली, यूनान, रूस, अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, पेरू, ब्राजील, इक्वाडोर, मैक्सिको, कनाडा, जापान, चीन, मलेशिया अन्य तमाम देश विश्व संगीत दिवस हर साल 21 जून को मनाने लगे।

विश्व में सदा ही शांति बरकरार रखने के लिए ही फ्रांस में पहली बार 21 जून 1982 में प्रथम विश्व संगीत दिवस मनाया गया था, जिसका श्रेय तात्कालिक सांस्कृतिक मंत्री श्री जैक लो को जाता है। इससे पूर्व अमेरिका के एक संगीतकार योएल कोहेन ने वर्ष 1976 में इस दिवस को मनाने की बात की थी। विश्व संगीत दिवस को मनाने का उद्देश्य अलग-अलग तरीके से लोगों को संगीत के प्रति जागरूक करना है ताकि लोगों का विश्वास संगीत से न उठे। इसको मनाने का उद्देश्य अलग-अलग तरीके सेम्यूजिक का प्रोपेगैंडा तैयार करने के अलावा एक्सपर्ट व नए कलाकारों को इक्क्ठा करके एक मंच पर लाना है। विश्व भर में, इस दिन संगीत और ललित कला को प्रोत्साहित करने वाले कई कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जाते हैं।

1991 पी.वी.नरसिम्हाराव भारत के नौंवे प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1993 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल एंगेला क्रिस्लिंज्की का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1998 तमिलनाडु के कुडनकुलम में परमाणु ऊर्जा केंद्र स्थापित करने के लिए भारत और रूस 2.5 अरब डॉलर के एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1999 दुनिया के प्रमुख अर्थशास्त्रियों में से एक और भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के पूर्व गवर्नर मनमोहन सिंह भारत के वित्तमंत्री बने। इसी दिन कोसोवो लिबरेशन आर्मी तथा कोसोवो शांति सैनिक बल के बीच विसैन्यीकरण समझौता हुआ।

2001 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ ने आतंकवादी विरोधी कानून बहाल किया, अमेरिका मुशर्रफ के राष्ट्रपति बनने से नाराज।

2002 जमीरुद्दीन सरकार बांग्लादेश के राष्ट्रपति बने।

2002 यूरोपीय संघ के 15 राष्ट्राध्यक्षों की सेविलिया (स्पेन) में बैठक आयोजित हुई।

2003 विश्व प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश लेखक जेके रोलिंग की पांचवी किताब हैरी पॉटर एंड द आॅर्डर आॅफ द फोनिक्स जारी हुई।

2004 चीन ने भारत और पाकिस्तान वार्ता का समर्थन किया।

2005 विश्व हाइड्रोग्राफी दिवस मनाया गया। हाइड्रोग्राफी के काम और हाइड्रोग्राफी के महत्व को प्रचारित करने के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हाइड्रोग्राफिक संगठन द्वारा एक वार्षिक उत्सव के रूप में इस दिन आयोजन किया गया। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हाइड्रोग्राफिक ब्यूरो की स्थापना 1921 में तकनीकी मानकों, सुरक्षित नेविगेशन और समुद्री पर्यावरण के संरक्षण जैसे मामलों पर सरकारों के बीच परामर्श के लिए एक तंत्र प्रदान करने के उद्देश्य से की गई थी। हाइड्रोग्राफी वैज्ञानिक शब्द है। समुद्र, नदियाँ, तलाब, झीलें और तटीय क्षेत्रों की भौतिक विशेषता के माप इत्यादि से संबंधित। हाइड्रोग्राफी का प्रयोग पृथ्वी पर जल और जलभंडार की नाप-जोख में किया जाता है। जिस तरह से एक नक्शे के साथ जमीन का विवरण होता है। उसी प्रकार नाविक समुद्र के विशाल जल को नेविगेट करने के लिए हाइड्रोग्राफी का उपयोग करते हैं। जिससे समुद्र की गहराई और खनिज तत्वों का पता लगाया जा सके। विश्व हाइड्रोग्राफी दिवस की शुरुआत चार्ट और मानचित्रों के निर्माण से हुई है ताकि व्यक्तिगत नाविकों को नये जल को नेविगेट करने में मदद मिल सके। 1921 में सुरक्षित नेविगेशन, तकनीकी मानकों और पर्यावरण सुरक्षा को देखते हुए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हाइड्रोग्राफिक ब्यूरो की स्थापना की गई थी।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने वर्ष 2005 में हर वर्ष 21 जून को वर्ल्ड हाइड्रोग्राफिक डे मनाने का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार किया। समुद्र, नदियों इत्यादि का हमारे जीवन में बड़ा महत्व है। इनसे संबद्ध कार्मिकों, सर्वेक्षण करने वालों इत्यादि के योगदान को भी सराहने के लिए विश्व हाइड्रोग्राफी दिवस समर्पित है। 2006 में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हाइड्रोग्राफिक ब्यूरो का नाम बदलकर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हाइड्रोग्राफिक संगठन कर दिया गया। इसी दिन डोनाल्ड त्यांग हांगकांग के नये प्रशासक बने। 

2006 प्लूटो के नए खोजे गए चंद्रमाओं को आधिकारिक तौर पर निक्स और हाइड्रा नाम दिया गया था। बौने ग्रह प्लूटो में पांच ज्ञात चंद्रमा हैं। प्लूटो से दूरी के क्रम में इन्हें चारोन, स्टाइलक्स, निक्स, केर्बरोस और हाइड्रा कहा जाता है।

2008 फिलिपींस में विनाशकारी तूफान फेंगसेन की चपेट में आने से सैकड़ों लोगों की मृत्यु हुई

2009 भारत की बैडमिंटन स्टार खिलाड़ी सायना नेहवाल ने सुपर सीरीज बैडमिंटन टूर्नामेंट का खिताब जीता। ऐसा करने वाली वह पहली भारतीय महिला हैं।

2012 भारतीय प्रतिस्पर्धा आयोग ने 11 सीमेंट कंपनियों को व्यापार संघ बनाकर कीमत का निर्धारण करने का दोषी ठहराते हुए 6000 करोड़ रुपए का जुर्माना लगाया।

2013 पाकिस्तान के पेशावर में एक मस्जिद में बम विस्फोट में बड़ी संख्या में लोगों की मौत हुई।

2014 संयुक्त राष्ट्र में 193 सदस्यों द्वारा 21 जून को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय योग दिवस को मनाने के भारत के प्रस्ताव को 11 दिसम्बर को मंजूरी मिली।

2015 भारत द्वारा संयुक्त राष्ट्र को प्रस्तावित अंतर्राष्ट्रीय योग दिवस दुनियाभर में मनाया गया।

She was the wife of filmmaker K Asif, who made the classic film Mughal-e-Azam. On this day, Jagannathdas Ratnakar, who was called the best poet of the modern era of Brajbhasha, passed away.

1940 Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, founder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, passed away. His ideology was inspired by Italy's infamous dictator Benito Mussolini and infamous German dictator Adolf Hitler. World Music Day is celebrated across the world on 21 June. The glory of music is limitless. Music is loved all over the world. Everyone is influenced by music. One thing you must have heard, when Rome was burning, Nero was playing the flute. There are two things in this. The flute was not invented then. Nero had become very cruel in his last days. He used to start fires somewhere, riots somewhere and was happy playing some musical instrument, listening to the screams of the people. Music is also used in many other works including healing the sick, calming the troubled mind, relieving fatigue. From common man to scientist, politician, administrator, contractor, businessman-businessman, actor, crook, mafia, almost everyone listens to music. Music is present in the whole world. That's why it has special importance. Music gives employment to crores of people across the world. So a lot depends on the music. That's why perhaps there was a need to celebrate Music Day to talk about various topics on music. Well it started from France where in 1982 World Music Day was celebrated for the first time. The then Cultural Minister of France, Jacques Lang, announced the celebration of Music Day in view of the craze of the people of the country for music. This day was called Fête la Musique in French. The first Music Day in France in 1982 was supported by more than 32 countries. France celebrated it like a state celebration. From the next year, including India, Italy, Greece, Russia, America, Britain, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, Japan, China, Malaysia, all other countries started celebrating World Music Day on 21 June every year.

To maintain peace in the world forever, the first World Music Day was celebrated in France for the first time on 21 June 1982, whose credit goes to the then Cultural Minister Mr. Jack Low. Earlier in the year 1976, a musician from America, Joel Cohen talked about celebrating this day. The purpose of celebrating World Music Day is to make people aware of music in different ways so that people's faith in music does not rise. The purpose of celebrating this is to prepare music propaganda in different ways and bring together experts and new artists on one platform. Around the world, many events are organized to encourage music and fine arts on this day.

In the year 2005, the United Nations General Assembly accepted the proposal to celebrate World Hydrographic Day on 21 June every year. Sea, rivers etc. have great importance in our life. World Hydrography Day is also dedicated to appreciating the contribution of personnel, surveyors etc. associated with them. In 2006 the International Hydrographic Bureau was renamed the International Hydrographic Organization. On the same day, Donald Tsang became the new administrator of Hong Kong.
