1606 जहांगीर के शासनकाल में गुरु अर्जुन देव की लाहौर (पाकिस्तान) में मौत हुई।

1910 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, राजनीतिज्ञ तथा उड़ीसा और मध्य प्रदेश के भूतपूर्व राज्यपाल सी. एम. पुनाचा का जन्म हुआ।

1911 आईबीएम की एंडिकॉट, न्यूयॉर्क में कम्प्यूटिंग-टेबुलेटिंग-रिकॉर्डिंग कंपनी के रूप में स्थापना हुई। यह एक अमेरिकी बहुराष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी और परामर्श निगम है। आईबीएम कंप्यूटर हार्डवेयर और सॉफ्टवेयर का निर्माण और विपणन करता है, और मेनफ्रेम कंप्यूटर से लेकर नैनो तक के क्षेत्रों में बुनियादी ढाँचा, होस्टिंग और परामर्श सेवाएँ प्रदान करता है।

1920 भारत के प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ मध्य प्रदेश के राज्यपाल रहे महमूद अली खाँ का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रख्यात पार्श्वगायक और संगीतकार हेमंत कुमार यानी हेमंत मुखर्जी या हेमंत मुखोपाध्याय का जन्म वाराणसी में हुआ। इसके अतिरिक्त इसी दिन जोस लोपेज पोरेटील्लो का जन्म हुआ जो मेक्सिको के राष्ट्रपति हुए।

1923 साइबेरिया में याकुट विद्रोह और रूसी नागरिक युद्ध समाप्त हुआ। इसी दिन जोधपुर के राजा उमेद सिंह के बेटे हनवंत सिंह राठौर का जन्म हुआ। 9 जून 1947 को यह राजा नियुक्त हुए और 26 जनवरी 1952 को एक हवाई जहाज दुर्घटना में हनवंत की मौत हो गई।

1924 प्रमुख भारतीय इस्लामिक सूफी विचारक, लेखक इदरीश शाह का जन्म शिमला में हुआ। इसी दिन चीन में वमपोआ सैन्य अकादमी की स्थापना हुई। इसी दिन इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ एजबेस्टन में पहले टेस्ट मैच में दक्षिण अफ्रीका की पूरी टीम पहली पारी में सिर्फ 30 रन पर आउट हो गई। इंग्लैंड ने मैच पारी और 18 रन से जीता था।

1925 महान् स्वतंत्रता सेनानी चित्तरंजन दास का निधन हुआ।

1934 हिंदी सहित तमाम भारतीय भाषाओं की सौ से अधिक फिल्मों में काम करने वाली अभिनेत्री और नृत्यांगना कुमारी कमला का जन्म हुआ।

1940 उच्चतम न्यायालय में जज, भारत सरकार के महान्यायवादी और कर्नाटक में लोकायुक्त हुए नित्ते संतोष हेगड़े का जन्म, नित्ते कनार्टक में हुआ।

1944 प्रफुल्ल चंद्र राय का निधन हुआ। राय भारत के प्रसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक हुए और उन्हें रसायन विज्ञान का जनक कहा गया।

1950 जाने माने हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेता और भाजपा के राज्यसभा सदस्य मिथुन चक्रवर्ती का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। 

1956 प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार सुरेश कांत का जन्म हुआ।

1963 सोवियत अंतरिक्ष कार्यक्रम के तहत वोस्तोक 6 मिशन में कॉस्मोनॉट वेलेंटीना टेरेशकोवा अंतरिक्ष में जाने वाली पहली महिला बनीं, जिन्हें पायलट चार सौ से अधिक आवेदकों और पांच फाइनलिस्टों में से चुना गया था।

1971 बाॅलीवुड फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध निर्देशक इम्तियाज अली का जन्म हुआ।

1976 दक्षिण अफ्रिका के टोएटा में दस हजार काले स्कूली छात्रों ने अपनी खराब गुणवत्ता वाली शिक्षा के खिलाफ तथा अपनी भाषा में बात करने के अधिकार के लिए लगभग आधा मील लंबा प्रदर्शन किया। इससे गुस्साई सरकार ने सुरक्षा बलों से गोलीबारी करवा कर सौ से अधिक छात्रों की जान ले ली और हजारों घायल हो गये।

1979 मुस्लिम ब्रदरहुड ने सीरिया में 62 शेखों को मार डाला।

1983 छत्तीसगढ़ के प्रसिद्ध गुरु घासीदास विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना हुई।

1991 बाॅलीवुड फिल्म, मनोरंजन जगत के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार, गीतकार अमाल मलिक का जन्म हुआ।

1992 डायना-ए ट्रू स्टोरी के नाम से प्रकाशित किताब में बताया गया कि डायना ने पिछले दस साल में कई बार आत्महत्या करने की कोशिश की। डायना ब्रिटिश शाही घराने की बहू थी।

1993 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल शीना बजाज का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इन्हें देखने पर कई बार सारा अली खान का धोखा हो सकता है।

1994 सारे गामा पा चैंपियन और प्रसिद्ध मराठी, हिंदी गायिका तथा अभिनेत्री आर्या अंबेडकर का जन्म पुणे, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1997 अल्जीरिया में हुए नरसंहार में 50 लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई।

2001 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बुश की पांच दिवसीय यूरोप यात्रा रूस में समाप्त हुई, पुतिन ने अमेरिकी प्रक्षेपास्त्र कार्यक्रम का विरोध किया।

2006 नेपाल में माओवादी अंतरिम सरकार में शामिल होने पर सहमत हुए।

2007 भारतीय मूल की अमेरिकी नागरिक सुनीता विलियम्स अंतरिक्ष में लगातार सबसे लंबे समय तक रहने वाली महिला बनीं। इसी दिन 2007 में एड्स पर जागरूकता फैलाने के लिए बाॅलीवुड अभिनेत्री शिल्पा शेट्टी को सिल्वर स्टार अवार्ड से नवाजा गया।

2008 उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य वित्त मंत्रालय का पैनल पेट्रोलियम ईधनों पर बिक्रीकर में कटौती पर सहमत हुआ। इसी दिन 2008 में मशहूर उर्दू शायर वसीम बरेलवी को प्रथम फिराक गोरखपुरी पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

2008 विश्व में इस्पात बनाने की प्रमुख भारतीय कम्पनी आर्सेलर मित्तल ने अमेरिकी कम्पनी बंभू स्टील का अधिग्रहण किया। 2008 में इसी दिन नेपाल के प्रमुख माओवादी नेता पुष्पकमल दहल उर्फ प्रचंड को नेपाल में शांति के क्षेत्र में दिया जाने वाला सर्वोच्च सम्मान डॉक्टर दिली रमण रेगमी राष्ट्रीय शांति पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया। और इसी दिन 2008 में कैलिफोर्निया में समलैंगिक जोड़े को शादी करने का लाइसेंस दिया गया।

2010 भूटान तंबाकू पर प्रतिबंध लगाने वाला पहला देश बना। तंबाकू नियंत्रण अधिनियम तंबाकू और तंबाकू उत्पादों को नियंत्रित करता है, भूटान में खेती, कटाई, उत्पादन और तंबाकू और तंबाकू उत्पादों की बिक्री पर प्रतिबंध लगाता है। अधिनियम के अनुसार भूटान की सरकार तंबाकू की रोकथाम की सुविधा के लिए परामर्श और उपचार प्रदान करती है।

2013 इराक में हुये सिलसिलेवार बम विस्फोटों में 20 लोग मारे गये।

2015 चार्ल्स मार्क कोरिया का मुंबई में निधन हुआ। कोरिया का जन्म 1 सितंबर 1930 को सिकंद्राबाद, हैदराबाद में हुआ था। वे भारतीय वास्तुकार और शहरी नियोजक थे।

2015 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने हर साल 16 जून को अंतरराष्ट्रीय पारिवारिक प्रेषण दिवस मनाने की घोषणा की। यह अंतरराष्ट्रीय पारिवारिक प्रेषण दिवस उन करीब दो सौ मिलियन प्रवासी श्रमिकों को मान्यता देता है, उनके योगदान को सम्मान देता है जो विदेशों में नौकरी या व्यवसाय आदि करते हैं और अपने परिजनों को धन स्वदेश भेजते हैं।

2022 अग्निपथ योजना व बेरोजगारी के विरोध में राष्ट्रीय लोकदल के मुखिया जयंत चैधरी ने पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश में युवा पंचायत आयोजित करने का ऐलान किया। 28 जून से 16 जुलाई के बीच पश्चिम उत्तर प्रदेश के 11 शहरों में जयंत चौधरी युवा पंचायत कर योजना को वापस लेने की मांग करेंगे। केंद्र सरकार की योजना अब पूर्व की भांति नियमित सेना में भर्ती की नहीं है बल्कि अग्निपथ योजना के तहत युवा 4 साल के लिए भर्ती किये जाएंगे। इस योजना का देश भर में विरोध हो रहा है।

On this day the famous playback singer and music composer of Hindi films Hemant Kumar i.e. Hemant Mukherjee or Hemant Mukhopadhyay was born in Varanasi. Apart from this, José López Portillo was born on this day, who became the President of Mexico.

1923 Yakut insurgency in Siberia and the end of the Russian Civil War. On this day Hanwant Singh Rathore, son of Raja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur was born. He was appointed king on 9 June 1947 and Hanwant died in an airplane crash on 26 January 1952.

1924 Idreesh Shah, prominent Indian Islamic Sufi thinker, writer, was born in Shimla. On this day the Wampoa Military Academy was established in China. On the same day, in the first Test match against England at Edgbaston, the entire South African team was dismissed for just 30 runs in the first innings. England won the match by an innings and 18 runs.

1925 Chittaranjan Das, the great freedom fighter, passed away.

1934 Kumari Kamla, actress and dancer who worked in more than a hundred films in all Indian languages, including Hindi, was born.

1940 Nitte Santosh Hegde, Judge in the Supreme Court, Attorney General of the Government of India and Lokayukta in Karnataka, was born in Nitte, Karnataka.
