1252 अल्फोंसो एक्स को कैस्टिले लियोन तथा गैलीसिया का राजा चुना गया। अल्फोंसो एक्स ने अपना बड़ा मंत्री मंडल बनाया, जनहित में कार्य किये। उसके दरबार में यहूदियों, मुसलमानों और ईसाइयों की प्रमुख भूमिकाएँ थीं।

1495 स्कॉटलैंड के एक्सचेकर रोल्स में एक दस्तावेज में स्कॉच व्हिस्की का पहला उल्लेख पाया गया।

1535 ओटोमन हैब्सबर्ग युद्ध में चार्ल्स पांचवें की सेना ने ट्यूनिस को हराया और अनुमानित 30,000 लोगों का संहार किया।

1670 इंग्लैंड के राजा चार्ल्स द्वितीय और फ्रांस के राजा लुइस 14वें ने डच विरोधी गोपनीय संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1746 फ्रांसीसी सेना ने कनाडा के एंटवर्प पर कब्जा किया।

1802 अमेरिकी सरकार ने पेटेंट और ट्रेडमार्क कार्यालय स्थापित किया।

1819 बंगाल में सेरामपुर कॉलेज की स्थापना की गयी।

1835 प्रथम भारतीय मेडिकल कालेज, कलकत्ता मेडिकल कॉलेज में अध्यापन कार्य शुरू हुआ।

1842 प्रथम इंडियन सिविल सर्विस आईसीएस (जिसे अब भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा - आईएएस कहा जाता है) के छात्र, विद्वान और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता सत्येंद्र नाथ टैगोर का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1845 नामीबिया से लंदन उड़कर होमलिंग कबूतर ने 55 दिनों में 11,000 किलोमीटर की यात्रा पूरी की।

1847 कम्युनिस्ट लीग की पहली कांग्रेस यानी आम सभा लंदन में आयोजित की गयी।

1874 भारत में राज करने वाली ब्रिटेन की कंपनी ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी को ब्रिटिश सरकार ने भंग कर दिया।

1880 पहली पे-फोन सेवा यानी भुगतान के बाद फोन करने की सुविधा अमेरिका में शुरू की गयी।

1897 रामकृष्ण परमहंस के शीर्ष शिष्य विवेकानंद ने रामकृष्ण मिशन की स्थापना की।

1916 जर्मनी की सेना ने वर्दुन के फोर्ट वॉक्स पर हमला किया।

1922 रॉयल अलस्टा पुलीस की आधिकारिक तौर पर स्थापना की गई। इसी दिन विख्यात स्वीडिश संगीतकार पोवेल रेमल का जन्म हुआ।

1926 विश्व विख्यात हॉलीवुड अभिनेत्री और सैक्स सिंबल मर्लिन मुनरो का जन्म हुआ। अनाथ आश्रम में पली-बढ़ी मर्लिन ने अपने पड़ोसी जेम्स डोगर्टी से शादी कर ली लेकिन दोनों का रिश्ता ज्यादा दिन चला नहीं और दोनों अलग हो गए। बाद में मर्लिन कैलिफोर्निया में एक कारखाने में नौकरी करने लगीं। उस वक्त फोटोग्राफर, डेविड कोनोवर कारखानों में काम करने वाली महिलाओं का काम दिखाने के लिए कुछ शूट कर रहे थे। वे मर्लिन की सुंदरता से बहुत प्रभावित हुए और उन्होंने अपनी कई तस्वीरों में उनका चेहरा इस्तेमाल किया। बाद में मर्लिन फिल्म जगत में चली गईं। सिर्फ 36 साल की उम्र में मुनरो अपने बेडरूम में मृत अवस्था में पाई गई थीं। उनकी मौत की वजह को लेकर अलग-अलग थ्योरी दी जाती हैं। ड्रग्स के ओवरडोज से लेकर हत्या और आत्महत्या तक को उनकी मौत की वजह बताया जाता है। अपनी सुंदरता के लिए वे विश्व चर्चित हुईं। उनके संबंध राष्ट्रपति जाॅन फिटजेराल्ड कैनेडी से रहे और इन संबंधों के कारण कैनेडी को काफी आलोचनाओं का सामना करना पड़ा।

1927 अमेरिका और कनाडा के बीच शांति संबंध बहाल हुये।

1929 कलकत्ता में जद्दनबाई, उत्तमचंद मोहनचंद की बेटी फातिमा रशीद यानी आगे चलकर विख्यात भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री बनीं नरगिस का जन्म हुआ था। छह वर्ष की आयु से नरगिस ने फिल्म अभिनय की शुरुआत की। 40 और 60 के दशक के दौरान नरगिस ने राज कपूर के साथ कई फिल्मों में काम किया। 1957 में आई फिल्म मदर इंडिया नरगिस के फिल्मी करियर में मील का पत्थर साबित हुई। इस फिल्म के लिए उन्हें बेस्ट एक्ट्रेस का फिल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड दिया गया। फिल्म की शूटिंग के दौरान सुनील दत्त ने नरगिस को आग से बचाया था। इस घटना के बाद नरगिस ने सुनील दत्त को अपना जीवन साथी चुन लिया। शादी के बाद नरगिस ने फिल्मों में काम करना कम कर दिया। 1967 में आई फिल्म रात और दिन के लिए उन्हें राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। ये पहली बार था जब किसी अभिनेत्री को राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार दिया गया। वे राज्यसभा सदस्य भी रहीं और भारत सरकार ने उन्हें पद्मश्री सम्मान भी दिया। कैंसर की वजह से नरगिस की 3 मई 1981 को मौत हो गई थी। 1929 में इसी दिन कम्युनिस्ट दलों का पहला वैश्विक सम्मेलन अर्जेंटीना की राजधानी ब्यूनस आयर्स में आयोजित किया गया।

1930 भारत की पहली डीलक्स ट्रेन डेक्कन क्वीन बॉम्बे वीटी यानी विक्टोरिया टर्मिनल से पुणे के बीच चली।

1941 ब्रिटिश सेना ने इराक की राजधानी बगदाद पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1948 इजरायल और अरब देश संघर्ष विराम पर सहमत हुए।

1950 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय पेशेवर हॉकी खिलाड़ी हुए अशोक कुमार का जन्म हुआ। अशोक विख्यात भारतीय हॉकी खिलाड़ी ध्यानचंद के पुत्र हैं और अपने असाधारण कौशल और गेंद पर नियंत्रण के लिए जाने जाते हैं। अशोक कुमार 1975 में विश्व कप जीतने वाली भारतीय टीम के सदस्य भी रहे।

1950 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाल सुरक्षा दिवस अथवा अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाल दिवस प्रत्येक वर्ष 1 जून को मनाया गया। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाल-सुरक्षा दिवस एक सबसे पुराना अंतर्राष्ट्रीय उत्सव है जो 1950 से मनाया जा रहा है। इसका उद्देश्य बच्चों के अधिकारों की रक्षा करने की आवश्यकता की ओर लोगों का ध्यान आकर्षित करना है। 1925 में, बाल कल्याण पर विश्व सम्मेलन के दौरान जिनेवा में पहली बार अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाल दिवस घोषित किया गया। 1950 से यह 1 जून को अधिकांश साम्यवादी देशों में मनाया जाता है। 20 नवंबर 1959 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा बाल अधिकारों की घोषणा के उपलक्ष्य में 20 नवंबर को विश्व बाल दिवस मनाया जाता है। अमेरिका में बाल दिवस जून के दूसरे रविवार को मनाया जाता है। स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और भारत के प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री पं. जवाहर लाल नेहरू के जन्म दिन 14 नवंबर को भारत में बाल दिवस मनाया जाता है।

1955 दलितों के खिलाफ की जाने वाली छुआछूत के उन्मूलन के लिए अस्पृश्यता निरोधक कानून अस्तित्व में आया।

1961 ब्रिटिश कैमरून ट्रस्ट टेरीटरी का उत्तरी भाग एक जनमत संग्रह के बाद नाइजीरियाई संघ में शामिल किया गया।

1964 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म संगीतकार इस्माइल दरबार का जन्म सूरत में हुआ।

1965 जापान के फुकुओका क्षेत्र में कोयला खदान में विस्फोट होने से लगभग 250 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1966 वाशिंगटन स्थित राष्ट्रपति कार्यालय व्हाइट हाउस में नागरिक अधिकारों पर सम्मेलन आयोजित किया गया।

1969 कनाडा में रेडियो और टीवी पर तंबाकू उत्पाद और उनसे संबंधित विज्ञापनों पर पूरी तरह से प्रतिबंध लगाया गया। इसी दिन पंजाब, उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व राज्यपाल विलियम मैल्कम हेली का निधन हुआ।

1970 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता, निर्माता और लेखक आर माधवन का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन के प्रधानमंत्री हैरॉल्ड विल्सन के ऊपर एक चुनावी सभा के बाहर अंडा फेंका गया।

1975 अंतरराष्ट्रीय ख्यातिप्राप्त भारतीय महिला भारोत्तोलक कर्णम मल्लेशवरी का जन्म हुआ।

1979 रोडेशिया में 90 साल बाद अल्पसंख्यक श्वेत लोगों के शासन का अंत हुआ था और घोषणा हुई थी कि अब देश को जिम्बाब्वे के नाम से जाना जाएगा।

1980 केबल न्यूज नेटवर्क (सीएनएन) टेलीविजन नेटवर्क का पहली बार प्रसारण शुरू हुआ।

1985 मद्रास में प्रसिद्ध भारतीय विकेटकीपर बल्लेबाज दिनेश कार्तिक का जन्म हुआ। दिनेश ने 2004 में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम में जगह हासिल की। वे 2018 सत्र के दौरान आईपीएल कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स टीम के कप्तान बने।

1987 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड कन्नड़, तमिल, तेलुगू फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सलोनी आसवानी का जन्म उल्हासनगर में हुआ। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिल्म निर्देशक, पटकथा लेखक और उर्दू लेखक ख्वाजा अहमद अब्बास का निधन हुआ।

1990 तेजाब हमले की शिकार हो कर सुपरिचित टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री बनी लक्ष्मी अग्रवाल का दिल्ली में जन्म हुआ।

1991 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल पूजा गोर का जन्म अहमदाबाद में हुआ।

1992 भारत एवं इजरायल के बीच हवाई समझौता हुआ।

1993 ग्वाटेमाला के राष्ट्रपति जोर्ग सेरानो को सेना ने सत्ता से बेदखल कर सत्ता प्रतिष्ठान पर कब्जा जमा लिया।

1996 कर्नाटक के प्रमुख राजनेता हरदनहल्ली डोडेगौड़ा देवगौड़ा (एच.डी. देवगौड़ा) भारत के 11वें प्रधानमंत्री बने। इसी दिन भारत के छठे राष्ट्रपति नीलम संजीव रेड्डी का निधन हुआ।

1999 मध्य चीन के ह्यूबी प्रान्त में 770-256 ईसा पूर्व के तीन सौ प्राचीन कब्रों का पता चला। इसी दिन हवाई विश्वविद्यालय (अमेरिका) में नर चूहे का प्रतिरूप विकसित किया गया।

2001 हमारे जीवन में दूध का बहुत महत्व है। दूध के विविध आयामों पर दुनिया का ध्यान आकर्षित करने, इससे संबंधित जागरूकता बढ़ाने, दुग्ध उत्पादन और विपणन इत्यादि को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से 1 जून 2001 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र की संस्था खाद्य एवं कृषि संगठन ने विश्व दुग्ध दिवस का आयोजन किया। अब यह दुनिया भर में मनाया जाता है।

2001 नेपाल के शाही परिवार की नरेश वीरेंद्र विक्रम शाह सहित पत्नी व अन्य परिवारों की नृशंस हत्या कर दी गई। युवराज दीपेन्द्र ने आत्महत्या का प्रयास किया। बाद में उनकी अस्पताल में मौत हो गई।,वीरेंद्र के भाई ज्ञानेंद्र कार्यवाहक नरेश बने। माना जाता है कि सत्ता पर कब्जा करने की नीयत से ज्ञानेंद्र के बिगड़ैल लड़के पारस ने इस हत्याकांड को अंजाम दिया। इसी दिन दक्षिण अफ्रीका का सत्य मित्र आयोग खत्म हुआ।

2004 इराकी प्रशासकीय परिषद के प्रमुख सुन्नी नेता गाजी मशाल अजीज अल यावर ईराक के नये राष्ट्रपति बने।

2005 अप्पा शेरपा ने माउंट एवरेस्ट की 15वीं बार सफल चढ़ाई की।

2006 चीन के दक्षिण पूर्वी जियांग्शी प्रांत के शांगीपन गांव में आदि मानव का पदचिह्न मिला। इसी दिन ईरान ने परमाणु शोध कार्यक्रम पर अमेरिका के साथ किसी प्रकार के समझौते से पूरी तरह इन्कार करते हुए कहा कि वह वार्ता को तैयार है, लेकिन परमाणु कार्यक्रम पर रोक लगाना उसे मंजूर नहीं। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन के शिक्षाविदों ने इस्रायली विश्वविद्यालयों के बहिष्कार का निर्णय लिया।

2007 ब्रिटेन में सार्वजनिक स्थानों पर धूम्रपान करने पर पूरी तरह से प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया।

2008 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आतंकवाद विरोधी सम्मेलन नई दिल्ली में आयोजित हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति पद के प्रत्याशी बराक ओबामा ने 2008 में शिकागो स्थित ट्रीनिटी यूनाइटेड चर्च की सदस्यता से इस्तीफा दिया।

2009 ब्राजील के रियो डी जेनेरियो से पेरिस जा रहे एयर फ्रांस विमान-447 के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से चालक दल के सदस्यों समेत 228 यात्रियों की मौत हुई।

2010 नेहरू स्मारक संग्रहालय और पुस्तकालय के संस्थापक निदेशक एवं महात्मा गांधी पर कई किताबें लिख चुके इतिहासकार बाल राम नंदा का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन मध्य अमेरिका के ग्वाटेमाला में प्रशांत महासागर से आए उष्णकटिबंधीय तूफान अगाथा के कारण 150 से अधिक लोगों की मृत्यु हुई।

2010 भारतीय सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश पद से सेवानिवृत्त हुए बालाकृष्णन को राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया। वे मानवाधिकार आयोग के पहले दलित अध्यक्ष हैं। आयोग के अध्यक्ष का पद पिछले एक वर्ष से रिक्त था। गुजरात के अक्षरधाम मंदिर पर कथित आतंकी हमले के मामले में गुजरात हाईकोर्ट ने निचली अदालत के फैसले को बरकरार रखा। विशेष पोटा जज सोनिया गोकाणी की अदालत ने 2006 में इस मामले में तीन आरोपियों को फाँसी, एक को उम्रकैद, एक को 10 वर्षों की सजा और एक को पाँच वर्षों की सजा सुनाई थी। स्वामीनारायण संप्रदाय के गांधीनगर स्थित अक्षरधाम मंदिर में सितंबर 2002 में कथित तौर पर दो आतंकियों के हमले में 33 लोग मारे गए थे।

2014 नाइजीरिया में फुटबाल के मैदान में हुए बम विस्फोट में 40 लोगों की जान चली गई।

2017 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने अमेरिका को पेरिस क्लाइमेट एग्रीमेंट से बाहर किया।

She was given the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for this film. Sunil Dutt saved Nargis from a fire during the shooting of the film. After this incident, Nargis chose Sunil Dutt as her life partner. After marriage, Nargis stopped working in films. He was awarded the National Award for the 1967 film Raat Aur Din. This was the first time that an actress was given the National Award. She was also a Rajya Sabha member and the Government of India also honored her with the Padma Shri. Nargis died on 3 May 1981 due to cancer.
