1386 विश्व के सबसे पुराने समझौतों में से एक पुर्तगाल और इंग्लैंड के बीच ऐतिहासिक विंडसर संधि हुई।

1502 नयी दुनिया के खोजकर्ता माने गये क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस ने एशिया का रास्ता तलाश करने के लिए स्पेन के कादिज से अपनी चौथी यात्रा शुरू की।

1540 राजस्थान के कुंभलगढ़ में महाराणा प्रताप का जन्म हुआ। वे मेवाड़ के 54वें राजा हुए। उदयपुर के मेवाड़ में शिशोदिया राजवंश में प्रताप सिंह सिसौदिया पैदा हुए।

1576 महाराणा प्रताप और अकबर की सेनाओं के बीच हल्दी घाटी का युद्ध शुरू हुआ।

1588 ड्यूक हेनरी द ग्यूसे की सेना ने पेरिस पर कब्जा किया।

1653 विश्वविख्यात ऐतिहासिक इमारत और विश्व के 7 आश्चयों में शामिल, यूनेस्को द्वारा विश्व धरोहर घोषित ताजमहल का निर्माण आगरा में 22 वर्ष तक होने के बाद 9 मई 1653 को पूर्ण हुआ। इसकी तामीर मुगल शहंशाह शाहजहां ने शुरु करवाई थी।

1689 अंग्रेज शासक विलियम तृतीय ने फ्रांस के साथ युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1753 जाट राजा सूरजमल ने दिल्ली में लूटमार की।

1812 अमेरिका और ब्रिटेन के बीच युद्ध शुरू हुआ।

1815 वाटरलू में ब्रिटेन से हारने के बाद नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट को सत्ताच्युत किया गया।

1836 विश्व प्रसिद्ध फ्रासीसी नेत्र रोग विशेषज्ञ फर्डिनांड मोनोयेर का जन्म हुआ।

1866 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, राजनीतिज्ञ गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले का जन्म हुआ।

1874 बाम्बे (वर्तमान में मुंबई) में पहली बार घोड़े से खींची जाने वाली ट्राम कार शुरू हुई।

1901 ऑस्ट्रेलिया की पहली संसद मेलबर्न में शुरू की गई।

1935 हिंदी की प्रसिद्ध कवयित्री स्नेहमयी चौधरी का जन्म हुआ।

1946 डॉ. राम मनोहर लोहिया की अगुवाई में गोवा में पुर्तगाल के शासन के खिलाफ पहला सत्याग्रह आंदोलन शुरू हुआ।

1947 वैश्विक वित्तीय संस्था विश्व बैंक ने अपने गठन के बाद पहला ऋण फ्रांस को दिया। दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के बाद पुनर्निर्माण के लिए फ्रांस ने 50 करोड़ डालर का कर्ज मांगा था और 1944 में स्थापित विश्व बैंक ने उसे इससे आधा अर्थात 25 करोड़ डालर का कर्ज दिया।

1953 जानी मानी भारतीय शास्त्रीय नृत्यांगना, अभिनेत्री और बाद में सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता बनीं मल्लिका साराभाई का जन्म अहमदाबाद, गुजरात में हुआ।

1955 पश्चिम जर्मनी नाटो का सदस्य बना और फ्रांस स्थित नाटो मुख्यालय में जर्मनी का ध्वज फहराया गया।

1959 हिंदी सेवी और आर्यसमाजी नेता भवानी दयाल संन्यासी का निधन हुआ।

1960 अमेरिका के खाद्य और औषधि प्रशासन ने पहली गर्भनिरोधक गोली को मंजूरी दी।

1975 पहली विद्युत चालित टंकण मशीन यानी टाइपराइटर बनायी गयी।

1979 अमरीका और सोवियत संघ के बीच हथियार नियंत्रण समझौता हुआ।

1985 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नेहा बंब का जन्म हुआ।

1986 हिमालय के माउंट एवरेस्ट पर पहुँचने वाले सर्वप्रथम व्यक्ति तेनजिंग नोर्गे का निधन हुआ। 1988 में इसी दिन जाने माने हास्य कलाकार, टेलीविजन अभिनेता संकेत भोंसले का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1990 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी रोबिन सिंह का जन्म नौएडा, गाजियाबाद में हुआ।

1992 एमबीबीएस करने के बाद अभिनय के क्षेत्र में पदार्पण करने वाली दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री और माॅडल साई पल्लवी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1992 में प्रसिद्ध, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड पंजाबी फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सिम्मी चहल का जन्म अंबाला में हुआ।

1993 दक्षिणी अमेरिकी देश इक्वाडोर के नाम्बिजा क्षेत्र में भूस्खलन से तीन सौ लोगों की मौत हुई।

1995 जाने-माने हिंदी निबंधकार कन्हैयालाल मिश्र प्रभाकर का निधन हुआ।

1998 बेहद लोकप्रिय भारतीय फिल्म पाश्र्व गायक और अभिनेता तलत महमूद का निधन हुआ।

2000 .जाफना प्रायःद्वीप के एलीफेंट दर्रे पर कब्जे के लिए लिट्टे के साथ हुए संघर्ष में श्रीलंका के 358 सैनिक मारे गये।

2002 कराची विस्फोट में पाकिस्तान के ही संगठन का हाथ होने के संकेत। इसी दिन रूस के कास्पियस्न क्षेत्र में एक हॉलीडे परेड के बीच रिमोट नियंत्रित बम विस्फोट से 130 लोगों की मौत और 43 अन्य घायल हुए।

2003 गूगल ने इंटरनेट प्रोग्राम एडसेंस पेश किया। एडसेंस गूगल की विज्ञापन सेवा है। 

2004 चेचेन्या में एक विस्फोट में वहां के राष्ट्रपति अखमद कादरोव का निधन हुआ।

2005 मास्को में रूस द्वारा द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के दौरान जर्मनी सेना पर विजय की 60वीं वर्षगांठ के जलसों में भारत के प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने भाग लिया।

2006 यूरोपीय देश इस्तोनिया में यूरोपीय संविधान को मंजूरी मिली। 2008 में इसी दिन अमेरिका ने पाकिस्तान को 8.1 करोड़ डॉलर की सैन्य सहायता देने से मना कर किया

2009 नासा ने चांद पर पानी की खोज के लिए टोही यान भेजा। इसी दिन जैकब जुमा दक्षिण अफ्रीका के राष्ट्रपति बने।

2010 भारत की वंदना शिवा को विकासशील देशों में महिला सशक्तिकरण और पर्यावरण संरक्षण के क्षेत्र में सहयोग देने के लिए वर्ष 2010 के सिडनी शांति पुरस्कार के लिए चुना गया।

2012 अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा ने समलैंगिक विवाह को अपना समर्थन दिया।

2014 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस नेता, आंध्र प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री रहे एन. जनार्दन रेड्डीे का निधन हुआ।

1540 Maharana Pratap was born in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan. He became the 54th king of Mewar. Pratap Singh Sisodia was born in the Shishodia dynasty in Mewar, Udaipur.

1576 The Battle of Haldi Ghati started between the armies of Maharana Pratap and Akbar.

1588: Duke Henri de Guise's army captures Paris.

1653 The construction of the world-renowned historical building and included in the 7 wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, was completed on 9 May 1653 after 22 years in Agra. Its construction was started by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

1689 English ruler William III declared war on France.

1753 Jat king Surajmal looted Delhi.

1812 War begins between America and Britain.

1815 Napoleon Bonaparte was deposed after being defeated by Britain at Waterloo.

1836 Ferdinand Monoyer, world famous French ophthalmologist, was born.

1866 Freedom fighter, politician Gopal Krishna Gokhale was born.

1874 The first horse-drawn tram car started in Bombay (now Mumbai).

1901 Australia's first Parliament is opened in Melbourne.

1935: Snehmayi Chowdhary, famous Hindi poetess, was born.

1946 First Satyagraha movement against Portuguese rule started in Goa under the leadership of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia.

1947 The World Bank, the global financial institution, gave the first loan to France after its formation. After the Second World War, France had asked for a loan of 500 million dollars for reconstruction and the World Bank, established in 1944, gave it a loan of half that i.e. 250 million dollars.

1953 Mallika Sarabhai, noted Indian classical dancer, actress, and later social activist, was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

1986 Tenzing Norgay, the first person to reach Mount Everest in the Himalayas, passed away. On this day in 1988, noted comedian, television actor Sanket Bhosle was born in Bombay.

1990 Robin Singh, famous Indian football player, was born in Noida, Ghaziabad.

1992: Sai Pallavi, popular actress and model in South Indian films, who made her acting debut after doing MBBS, was born. On this day in 1992, the famous, beautiful, bold Punjabi film actress and model Simmi Chahal was born in Ambala.

1993 Three hundred people died in a landslide in Nambiza region of South American country Ecuador.

1995 Renowned Hindi essayist Kanhaiyalal Mishra Prabhakar passed away.

1998 Talat Mehmood, hugely popular Indian film playback singer and actor, passed away.

2000. 358 Sri Lankan soldiers were killed in a clash with the LTTE to capture the Elephant Pass in Jaffna Prasidhweep.

Signs of Pakistan's own organization being involved in the 2002 Karachi blast. On the same day, a remote-controlled bomb detonated during a holiday parade in Russia's Caspian region killed 130 people and injured 43 others.
