1756 बंगाल के नवाब अली वर्दी खान का 80 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हुआ।

1838 लंदन में नेशनल आर्ट गैलरी खोली गई।

1883 प्रसिद्ध अफगान शासक और सैन्य अधिकारी मोहम्मद नादिर शाह का जन्म देहरादून, उत्तराखंड में हुआ।

1893 हिंदी के प्रमुख साहित्यकार, खोजी, अनुवादक और समाजवादी विचारक राहुल सांकृत्यायन का जन्म पंदहा, रानी की सराय, आजमगढ़ में हुआ। राहुल को महापंडित कहा गया। वे प्रतिष्ठित बहुभाषाविद थे और बीसवीं सदी के पूर्वार्ध में उन्होंने यात्रा वृतांत यात्रा साहित्य तथा विश्व-दर्शन के क्षेत्र में साहित्यिक योगदान किए। उन्होंने समाजवाद, कम्युनिज्म का समर्थन किया।

1906 विख्यात, बेहतरीन पाकिस्तानी उर्दू एवं पंजाबी शायर मुनीर अहमद नियाजी का जन्म होशियारपुर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1919 भारतीय लेखक और पत्रकार अवधानम सीता रमन का जन्म हुआ।

1920 प्रसिद्ध जेसुइट इसाई मिशनरी विसेंट फेरर मोनचो का जन्म बार्सिलोना में हुआ। विसेंट ने दक्षिण भारत में मिशन के तहत गरीबों के जीवन को बेहतर बनाने हेतु अथक परिश्रम किया। विसेंट फेरर फाउंडेशन आंध्र प्रदेश में अनेक मानवीय परियोजनाएं चला रहा है, इससे करीब 2.5 मिलियन से अधिक गरीब लोगों को सहायता मिल रही है।

1929 हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत’ की विद्वान् और सुप्रसिद्ध सरोद वादिका शरन रानी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इनका अपने जन्म दिन की पूर्व संध्या पर 8 अप्रैल 2008 को निधन हो गया।

1933 दक्षिण भारत की कन्नड़ सिनेमा की प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री प्रतिमा देवी का जन्म हुआ।

1945 अमेरिका में यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स एटोमिक एनर्जी कमीशन की स्थापना की गई।

1948 जया भादुड़ी का मध्य प्रदेश के जबलपुर में जन्म हुआ। प्रसिद्ध फिल्म अभिनेता अमिताभ बच्चन की पत्नी बनने पर यह जया बच्चन हो गईं। इन्होंने गुड्डी, कोरा कागज, जंजीर, अभिमान, चुपके-चुपके, मिली और शोले जैसी तमाम फिल्मों में अभिनय किया और फिलहाल राज्य सभा की सदस्य हैं।

1951 जाने माने अमेरिकी, भारतीय एथलीट एवं एथलेटिक्स कोच अल्बर्ट एन्सोन डोरेंस चतुर्थ का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1953 अमेरिका की बहुराष्ट्रीय मनोरंजन कंपनी वार्नर ब्रदर्स ने हाउस ऑफ वैक्स शीर्षक से पहली 3 डी फिल्म प्रदर्शित की।

1954 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय राजनीतिज्ञ और अर्थशास्त्री तथा मनमोहन सिंह सरकार में मंत्री रहे जयराम रमेश का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं निर्मात्री अनीता कंवल का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ।

1955 अमेरिका ने नेवादा में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1957 मिस्र की स्वेज नहर की सफाई पूरी हुई और जहाजों का आवागमन चालू हुआ।

1963 ब्रिटिश राजनेता और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री सर विंस्टन चर्चिल को संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की मानद नागरिकता प्रदान की गई।

1964 उत्तराखंड के भाजपा नेता, पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री तथा वर्तमान में पौड़ी गढ़वाल से लोकसभा सदस्य तीरथ सिंह रावत का जन्म हुआ।

1965 भारतीय और पाकिस्तान की सेना के बीच गुजरात के कच्छ क्षेत्र में लड़ाई छिड़ी। गुजरात के कच्छ में पाकिस्तानी सेना ने हमला बोल दिया था। पाकिस्तान ने इसे ऑपरेशन ‘डेजर्ट हॉक’ नाम दिया था। करीब 5 महीने चले इस युद्ध में भारत का पलड़ा भारी रहा। इस युद्ध का अंत संयुक्त राष्ट्र की ओर से युद्ध विराम की घोषणा के बाद 23 सितंबर 1965 को हुआ। जनवरी 1966 को हुए ताशकंद समझौते के बाद दोनों देशों ने एक-दूसरे से जीते हुए इलाके वापस लौटा दिए।

1972 सोवियत संघ और इराक ने मैत्री संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1979 महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री, वर्तमान उप मुख्यमंत्री भाजपा नेता देवेंद्र फड़नवीस की पत्नी, बैंक में अपने पद के दुरुपयोग मे ंबदनाम, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री, गायिका, भाजपा नेत्री, एक्सिस बैंक की पूर्व उपाध्यक्ष अमृता फड़नवीस का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ।

1980 जाने माने कन्नड़ और हिंदी लेखक चक्रवर्ती सुलीबेले का जन्म कर्नाटक के होन्नावर में हुआ।

1981 प्रथम भारतीय महिला नेता दुर्गाबाई देशमुख का निधन हुआ।

1984 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय तमिल एवं मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल लक्ष्मी प्रिया चंद्रमौली का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ। इसी दिन कानूनविद और राजनीतिज्ञ भाऊराव देवाजी खोब्रागडे का निधन हुआ। वे भारतीय भारतीय रिपब्लिकन पार्टी के राजनीतिज्ञ थे। वे महाराष्ट्र से 3 बार राज्य सभा के सदस्य रहे।

1988 चर्चित अभिनेत्री स्वरा भास्कर का दिल्ली में जन्म हुआ। स्वरा तनु वेड्स मनु, रांझणा और वीरे दी वेडिंग जैसी तमाम फिल्मों में काम किया और समाजवादी, वामपंथी, मानवाधिकारवादी हैं। इसी दिन जनता दल के अध्यक्ष, पूर्व समाजवादी नेता, बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री और केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री रहे लालू प्रसाद यादव के बेटे, बिहार सरकार में मंत्री तेज प्रताप यादव का जन्म गोपालगंज बिहार में हुआ।

1988 अमेरिका ने पनामा पर आर्थिक प्रतिबंध लगाये। इसी दिन ली पेंग 1988 में चीन के प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1989 एशिया की पहली सम्पूर्ण भूमिगत संजय जलविद्युत परियोजना शुरू हुई।

1990 सुपरिचित भारतीय क्रिकेटर प्रियांक किरीटभाई पांचाल का जन्म अहमदाबाद में हुआ। प्रियांक दाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज और दाएं हाथ के मध्यम गति के गेंदबाज हैं।

1998 सऊदी अरब में मीना के पास भगदड़ में 150 से अधिक यात्रियों की मृत्यु हुई।

1999 नाइजर के राष्ट्रपति इब्राहिम बारे मैनसारा की हत्या कर दी गई।

2001 अमेरिकी एयरलाइंस ने ट्रांस वर्ल्ड एयरलाइंस का अधिग्रहण किया। इससे अमेरिकी एयरलाइंस दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी एयरलाइन बन गई।

2002 बहरीन में निगम चुनाव में महिलाओं को भी भाग लेने की छूट मिली।

2003 इराक की राजधानी बगदाद के फिरदौस चौराहे पर लगी राष्ट्रपति सद्दाम हुसैन की मूर्ति को गिरा दिया गया था। अमेरिकी सेना ने सैनिक वाहन की मदद से इस मूर्ति को गिराया। सद्दाम के तख्तापलट के बाद इराक पर अमेरिका का नियंत्रण हो गया। इसी दिन 2003 स्टीव वॉ सर्वाधिक टेस्ट (157) खेलने वाले खिलाड़ी बने।

2004 ईराक में संघर्ष तेज होने पर अमेरिकी काफिले पर हुए हमले में 9 लोगों की मौत। इसी दिन 2004 पुर्तगाल के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने भारत के कई आपराधिक मामलों में वांछित माफिया सरगना अबू सलेम के भारत प्रत्यर्पण सम्बन्धी आदेश की पुनः समीक्षा करने को कहा।

2005 ब्रिटिश शाही परिवार के राजकुमार चार्ल्स ने कैमिला पार्कर बोल्स से शादी की। शादी में इस जोड़े का 20 हजार से ज्यादा लोगों ने स्वागत किया। शादी समारोह में शाही परिवार और उनके दोस्तों समेत करीब 800 लोग शामिल हुए थे। प्रिंस चार्ल्स की ये दूसरी शादी थी। इससे पहले 1981 में उन्होंने लेडी डायना से शादी की थी। डायना से उनके दो बेटे प्रिंस विलियम और प्रिंस हैरी हैं।

2010 जम्मू-कश्मीर की विधान सभा ने अंतर जिला भर्तियों पर पाबंदी लगाए जाने सबंधी विवादित विधेयक पारित किया। इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता पूर्व जिम्बाब्वे के प्रधानमंत्री बिशप एबेल मुजोरेवा का निधन हुआ था। इसी दिन श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति महिंदा राजपक्षे के यूनाइटेड पीपुल्स फ्रीडम एलायंस ने 225 सीटों वाली संसद में 117 सीटें जीतीं।

2011 सरकार द्वारा लोकपाल कानून बनाने की मांग मान लेने के बाद अन्ना हजारे ने 95 घंटे से जारी अपना आमरण अनशन समाप्त कर दिया। इसी दिन अन्ना हजारे को भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी अभियान के लिए एक करोड़ रूपए के आईआईपीएम रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर अन्तरराष्ट्रीय शांति पुरस्कार दिए जाने की घोषणा की गई।

2013 फ्रांस संसद ने समलैंगिक विवाह संबंधी एक विधेयक को मंजूरी दी।

2020 भारत में कोरोना वायरस से 169 लोगों की मौत, संक्रमितों की संख्या 5,865 पर पहुंची। पिछले 24 घंटे में संक्रमण के 591 मामले सामने आए और 20 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1954 Jairam Ramesh, noted Indian politician and economist and minister in the Manmohan Singh government, was born. On this day well known beautiful, bold television actress and producer Anita Kanwal was born in Lucknow.

1955 US conducts nuclear test in Nevada.

1957 The cleaning of Egypt's Suez Canal was completed and the movement of ships started.

1963 British statesman and former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill is granted honorary citizenship of the United States.

1964 Tirath Singh Rawat, BJP leader, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and currently Lok Sabha member from Pauri Garhwal, was born.

1965 Fighting broke out between the Indian and Pakistani forces in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Pakistani army had attacked in Kutch of Gujarat. Pakistan named it Operation 'Desert Hawk'. India had the upper hand in this war which lasted for about 5 months. The war ended on 23 September 1965 after the declaration of a ceasefire by the United Nations. After the Tashkent Agreement of January 1966, both the countries returned the territories they had won from each other.

1972 The Soviet Union and Iraq signed a friendship treaty.
