1858 ह्ययूज रोज के नेतृत्व में ब्रिटिश सेना के साथ युद्ध हारने के बाद पकड़े जाने के डर से झांसी की रानी लक्ष्मीबाई झांसी से निकलकर काल्पी पहुंची और बाद में ग्वालियर की ओर चली गई।

1952 अंकुश, प्रतिघात और तेजाब जैसी अनेक लोकप्रिय फिल्में बनाने वाले जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्मकार चंद्रशेखर नार्वेकर या एन चंद्रा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1954 भारत की बेहद खूबसूरत, बोल्ड मशहूर बॉलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री परवीन बॉबी का जन्म गुजरात के जूनागढ़ में हुआ। अपने ग्लैमर्स अभिनय के कारण बेहद लोकप्रिय हुई परवीन को अनेक पुरस्कार और सम्मान मिले।

1955 फेमिना मिस इंडिया वल्र्ड 1971 एवं 1971 में ही मिस वल्र्ड प्रतियोगिता की भारतीय प्रतिस्पर्धी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल प्रेमा नारायण का जन्म कलिमपोंग में हुआ।

1959 प्रसिद्ध, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल गुड्डी मारुति का जन्म हुआ।

1960 अफ्रीकी देश सेनेगल को फ्रांस की गुलामी से आजादी हासिल हुई।

1965 बेहद विवादित स्वंभू महिला संत, महिला भगवान, टीवी शो होस्ट और बिग बाॅस 14 की प्रतिभागी रही राधे मां यानी सुखविंदर कौर का जन्म दोरंगला, पंजाब में हुआ।

1968 विख्यात अमेरिकी मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता मार्टिन लूथर किंग जूनियर की हत्या जेम्स अर्ल रे ने की। रे को 99 साल की जेल की सजा हुई और उसने 1998 में जेल में ही दम तोड़ा।

1969 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी भारतीय फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री पल्लवी जोशी का जन्म हुआ।

1972 भारत में जानी मानी कनाडाई फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं फैशन मॉडल लीसा रे का जन्म टोरंटो, कनाडा में हुआ।

1975 बिल गेट्स और पॉल एलन के बीच हुए समझौते के फलस्वरूप माइक्रोसॉफ्ट की स्थापना हुई। माइक्रोसॉफ्ट एक ऐसी कंपनी है, जिसने पूरी दुनिया में कंप्यूटर की लोकप्रियता बढ़ाने का काम किया। इसकी स्थापना 4 अप्रैल 1975 को हुई थी, जब ज्यादातर अमेरिकी टाइपराइटर्स का इस्तेमाल करते थे। बचपन के दो दोस्तों बिल गेट्स और पॉल एलन ने माइक्रोसॉफ्ट बनाई, जो कंप्यूटर सॉफ्टवेयर बनाती है। 1979 में न्यू मैक्सिको से माइक्रोसॉफ्ट वॉशिंगटन स्टेट में शिफ्ट हुई और यहां एक बड़ी मल्टीनेशनल टेक्नोलॉजी कॉर्पोरेशन के तौर पर उभरी। 1987 में माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने शेयर निकाले और 31 साल के गेट्स दुनिया के सबसे युवा अरबपति बन गए। गेट्स और एलन ने जब माइक्रोसॉफ्ट शुरू की तो इसे माइक्रो-सॉफ्ट कहा यानी माइक्रोप्रोसेसर्स और सॉफ्टवेयर के शुरुआती शब्दों का जोड़ा। उस समय शुरुआती पर्सनल कंप्यूटर अल्टएयर 8800 के लिए सॉफ्टवेयर बनाए गये थे। एलन ने बोस्टन में प्रोग्रामर की नौकरी और गेट्स ने हार्वर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी में पढ़ाई छोड़कर नई कंपनी बनाने पर फोकस किया था। न्यू मैक्सिको में ही अल्टएयर 8800 के निर्माता एमआईटीएस का कामकाज था, जहां माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने काम शुरू किया था। 1978 के अंत तक माइक्रोसॉफ्ट की बिक्री 10 लाख डॉलर से अधिक हो गई और 1979 में कंपनी वॉशिंगटन पहुंच गई। कंपनी ने अपने एमएस-डॉस ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम को आईबीएम के पहले पर्सनल कंप्यूटर के लिए लाइसेंस कराया, जो 1981 में लॉन्च हुआ। इसके बाद अन्य कंप्यूटर कंपनियों ने भी एमएस-डॉस को लाइसेंस करना शुरू किया, जिसमें कोई ग्राफिकल इंटरफेस नहीं था और यूजर्स को कमांड टाइप करनी होती थी, जिससे प्रोग्राम चलते थे। 1983 में एलन ने माइक्रोसॉफ्ट कंपनी को। उस समय उन्हें हॉडकिंस लिम्फोमा डायग्नोज रोग हुआ। सफल इलाज के बाद उन्होंने कई अन्य बिजनेस वेंचर किए। 1985 में माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने एक नया ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम लॉन्च किया- विंडोज। इसमें ग्राफिकल इंटरफेस था, जिसमें ड्रॉप-डाउन मीनू और अन्य फीचर शामिल थे। अगले ही साल कंपनी का हेडक्वार्टर रेडमंड, वॉशिंगटन में शिफ्ट हुआ और 21 डॉलर में एक शेयर की दर से 6.1 करोड़ डॉलर जुटाए। 1980 के दशक में माइक्रोसॉफ्ट कारोबार के लिहाज से दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी पर्सनल कंप्यूटर सॉफ्टवेयर कंपनी बन चुकी थी। 1995 के बाद घर और दफ्तरों में पर्सनल कंप्यूटरों का इस्तेमाल तेजी से बढ़ा और इसी दौरान विंडोज 95 भी लॉन्च हुआ। इसमें स्टार्ट मीनू पहली बार आया और 7 मिलियन पीसी सिर्फ शुरुआती पांच हफ्ते में बिक गए। 1990 के दशक के दूसरे हिस्से में इंटरनेट का इस्तेमाल बढ़ा। तब 1995 में माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने इंटरनेट एक्सप्लोरर के नाम से अपना ब्राउजर लॉन्च किया। 1998 में यूएस डिपार्टमेंट ऑफ जस्टिस और 20 राज्यों के अटॉर्नी जनरल ने माइक्रोसॉफ्ट पर एंटीट्रस्ट कानूनों के उल्लंघन का आरोप लगाया। प्रतिस्पर्धियों को बाहर करने के लिए वह अपनी मार्केट पोजिशन का लाभ उठाता था। 2001 में मामला सेटल हुआ। और इसी साल, एक्सबॉक्स कंसोल के साथ माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने वीडियो-गेम मार्केट में प्रवेश किया।

1976 सिमरन के नाम से सुपरिचित हिंदी सहित विभिन्न दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों में काम करने वाली खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री, डांसर, माॅडल और फिल्म निर्मात्री ऋषिबाला नवल यानी सिमरन बग्गा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1977 न्यू होप, जॉर्जिया में एक राजमार्ग पर दक्षिणी एयरवेज की उड़ान 242 दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई, जिसमें 72 लोग मारे गए।

1979 पाकिस्तान के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री जुल्फिकार अली भुट्टो को फांसी के फंदे पर 4 अप्रैल की सुबह लटका दिया गया। उन पर हत्या के षड्यंत्र में शामिल होने का आरोप था। गिरफ्तारी के समय न सिर्फ भुट्टो की खूब पिटाई की गई थी, बल्कि फांसीघर तक उन्हें स्ट्रेचर पर जबरन ले जाया गया। उससे पहले की रात वे लगातार रोते रहे। भुट्टो मुंबई में पले-बढ़े। उनकी कई भारतीयों से दोस्ती थी। भुट्टो की मुंबई में पारिवारिक संपत्ति भी थी। फौजी तानाशाह जिया उल हक ने कई देशों की माफी की अपील को भी ठुकरा दिया था। उस समय भारत में प्रधानमंत्री मोरारजी देसाई ने इसे पाकिस्तान का आंतरिक मसला कहकर टाल दिया था। पर पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी ने जरूर माफी की अपील की थी। अक्टूबर, 1977 में भुट्टो के खिलाफ हत्या का मुकदमा शुरू हुआ। लोअर कोर्ट के बजाय, सीधे हाईकोर्ट में। उन्हें फांसी की सजा मिली, जिसे सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कायम रखा। 4 अप्रैल 1979 को रावलपिंडी जेल में उन्हें फांसी दे दी गई। कहते हैं कि फौजी तानाशाह जनरल जिया उन्हें सख्त नापसंद कर रहे थे। और फर्जी आरोपों में उन्हें मार दिया गया। 1979 में इसी दिन अंग्रेजी फिल्मों के विख्यात अभिनेता हीथ लैजर का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल गौरव चोपड़ा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1983 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत बोल्ड मलयालम फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, कुचिपुड़ी नर्तकी तथा माॅडल रचना नारायणनकुट्टी का जन्म त्रिसूर में हुआ।

1984 जाने माने भारतीय गायक, संगीतकार, रैपर और अभिनेता गैरी संधू यानी गुरमुख सिंह का जन्म जालंधर के फिल्लौर तहसील के गांव रुरका कलां में हुआ। इसी दिन फिल्म अभिनेता से नेता बने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रोनाल्ड रीगन ने रासायनिक हथियारों पर अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रतिबंध का आह्वान किया।

1986 जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल मोहित मल्होत्रा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1988 अमेरिका के एरिजोना के गवर्नर इवान मेखम महाभियोग चलाकर दोषी ठहराया और उसके बाद पद से हटाया गया।

1994 तिब्बती धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा द्वारा तिब्बती बालक उग्येन थिनली दोरजी को नये कर्मापा के रूप में घोषणा की गई।

Two childhood friends, Bill Gates and Paul Allen, founded Microsoft, which manufactures computer software. In 1979, Microsoft shifted from New Mexico to Washington State and emerged as a large multinational technology corporation here. In 1987, Microsoft took out shares and 31-year-old Gates became the world's youngest billionaire. When Gates and Allen started Microsoft, it was called Micro-Soft i.e. a combination of the initial words of microprocessors and software.
