1792 मृत्यु दंड की सजा पाए व्यक्ति को फांसी देने के लिए गिलोटिन guillotine मशीन के प्रथम प्रयोग को देखने के लिए भारी संख्या में लोग जुटे। इस मशीन में आदमी को लेटा कर ऊपर से एक भारी ब्लेड गिराया जाता था जिससे आदमी का सिर धड़ से अलग हो जाता था।

1792 फ्रांस के प्रसिद्ध संगीतज्ञ, गायक और कवि क्लाउड जोसेफ रूज डी लिस्ले ने लामार्सिलाइस गीत की रचना की जो फ्रांस का राष्ट्रगान है।

1678 बेल्जियम के पुराने शहर वाइप्रेस पर फ्रांसीसी सेना ने 25 अप्रैल के दिन कब्जा कर लिया।

1809 ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी और पंजाब के सिख शासक रणजीत सिंह के बीच अमृतसर संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।

1867 जापान की राजधानी टोक्यो में विदेशी व्यापार की अनुमति दी गई।

1878 भारत में प्रशासक, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति और सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे अधिवक्ता, लेखक मौरिस जेवियर का जन्म लंदन में हुआ।  सर मौरिस लिनफोर्ड ग्वायर, जीसीआईई, केसीबी, केसीएसआई, केसी एक ब्रिटिश वकील, जज और अकादमिक प्रशासक थे। उन्होंने 1938 से 1950 तक दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति और 1937 से 1943 तक भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में कार्य किया। उन्हें 1948 में दिल्ली, भारत में कॉलेज मिरांडा हाउस की स्थापना करने का श्रेय दिया जाता है।

1900 संयुक्त राष्ट्र के प्रथम महासचिव के चुनाव तक कार्यवाहक महासचिव रहे ग्लेडविन जेब का जन्म हुआ।

1904 जाने-माने हिंदी साहित्यकार चंद्रबली पांडेय का जन्म हुआ।

1905 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में श्वेतों को चुनावों में मतदान करने का अधिकार मिला।

1919 संयुक्त प्रांत के प्रधानमंत्री और उत्तर प्रदेश के दो बार मुख्यमंत्री रहे प्रमुख कांग्रेसी राजनीतिज्ञ हेमवती नंदन बहुगुणा का जन्म पौड़ गढ़वाल में हुआ।

1922 हिंदू संत शिवानंद सरस्वती के शिष्य जाने माने हिंदू सन्यासी और रिषिकेश स्थित डिवाइन लाइफ सोसाइटी आॅफ इंडिया के महासचिव स्वामी कृष्णानंद का जन्म हुआ।

1925 पॉल वोन हिंडनबर्ग जर्मनी के राष्ट्रपति चुने गये।

1943 हिंदी, तमिल, तेलुगू, मलयालम, कन्नड़ आदि अनेक भाषाओं की लोकप्रिय बोल्ड, खूबसूरत अभिनेत्री हुईं देविका का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1953 कैंब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय के वैज्ञानिकों जेम्स डी वॉटसन एवं फ्रांसिस क्रिक ने डीएनए संरचना की व्याख्या कर बताया कि जीव अपना वंश कैसे बढ़ाते हैं। वैज्ञानिकों को इस खोज पर 1962 में नोबेल पुरस्कार मिला।

1954 बेल लैब्स ने न्यूयार्क में पहली बार सोलर बैटरी बनाने की घोषणा की।

1957 सोडियम परमाणु रिएक्टर पहली बार प्रायोगिक तौर पर संचालित किया गया।

1961 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड अभिनेता, लेखक, निर्देशक करन राजदान का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय - अमेरिकी राजनैतिक विष्लेषक, लेखक, आलोचक और फिल्मकार दिनेश डिसूजा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1962 जानी मानी, बोल्ड खूबसूरत मंच कलाकार,, तमिल कवियत्री, गीतकार, लेखिका, राजनेत्री और द्रविड़ मुनेत्र कझगम पार्टी की लोकसभा सदस्य Thamizhachi Thangapandian मल्लनकिनारु तमिलनाडु में हुआ।

1964 जेम्स बाल्डविन के लोकप्रिय ब्लूज फॉर मिस्टर चार्ली सोप ओपेरा का प्रीमियर न्यूयॉर्क में हुआ।

1967 गुजरात में बड़ौदा के राजा, क्रिकेट प्रशासक, क्रिकेटर समरजीत सिंह गायकवाड़ का जन्म वड़ोदरा में हुआ।

1969 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबॉलर आईएम विजयन का जन्म हुआ।

1977 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के टेनिस खिलाड़ी जैफ कोएत्जी का जन्म हुआ।

1980 अमेरिकी सेना ने तेहरान स्थित अपने दूतावास से 53 बंधकों को छुड़ाने का गोपनीय अभियान चलाया, लेकिन इसमें सफलता नहीं मिल पाई और आठ अमेरिकी सैनिक मारे गए। ये संकट 444 दिन तक चला और अंतत जनवरी 1981 में इन बंधकों को ईरान ने रिहा कर दिया।

1981 जापान के सुरूगा में परमाणु ऊर्जा संयंत्र की मरम्मत कार्य कर रहे 100 से अधिक मजदूर परमाणु विकिरण का शिकार हो गये।

1982 भारतीय टेलीविजन प्रसारण दूरदर्शन श्वेत श्याम से बहुरंगी हुआ।

1987 जाने माने गायक और संगीतकार अरिजीत सिंह का जन्म ज़ियागंज अज़ीमगंज में हुआ।

1989 बॉलीवुड के जाने माने प्लैबैक सिंगर कमाल खान का जन्म पटियाला, पंजाब में हुआ। कमाल ने 2010 में गायन प्रतियोगिता, सा रे गा मा पा सिंगिंग सुपरस्टार जीता। उन्होंने द डर्टी पिक्चर फिल्म से इश्क सूफियाना के लिए जी सिने पुरस्कार फ्रेश सिंगिंग टैलेंट 2012 जीता। इसी दिन इथियोपिया में दिमागी बुखार से 20 हजार से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत। यह बीमारी सूडान तक फैली और वहां भी कम से कम 400 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1989 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री, निर्मात्री, और स्टेज शो परफाॅर्मर श्रेया पिलगांवकर का जन्म हुआ।

2000 भारतीय हिंदी फिल्मों के सुप्रसिद्ध कथा, पटकथा और कहानी लेखक पंडित मुखराम शर्मा का निधन हुआ।

2003 अमेरिका समर्थित शांति योजना के परिणाम स्वरूप फिलिस्तीन में नये मंत्रिमंडल के गठन पर सहमति बनी।

2004 जिम्बाव्वे ने श्रीलंका के विरुद्ध एक दिवसीय मैचों में न्यूनतम 35 रनों का रिकॉर्ड बनाया।

2005 अमागासाकी, ह्योगो, जापान में एक रेल पटरी से उतर गई और बड़ी इमारत में घुस गई, जिससे चालक और 106 से अधिक यात्रियों की मौत 555 के करीब लोग घायल हुए। इसी दिन भारतीय संत स्वामी रंगनाथनंदा का निधन हुआ।

2007 बिरला इंस्टीट्यूट आफ टेक्नोलॉजी एंड साइंसेज का नया परिसर पनामा (बहरीन) में खुला।

2008 की 25 अप्रैल को संयुक्त राष्ट्र की संस्था ने मलेरिया के प्रति जन-जागरूकता, शोध, उपचारादि के प्रति ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए विश्व मलेरिया दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत की। मलेरिया से हर साल लाखों लोग मरते हैं। खरबों रुपये इलाज पर खर्च होते हैं। परिवार से लेकर स्वास्थ्य-चिकित्सा सेवाओं तक पर अतिरिक्त कार्य का बोझ पड़ता है। अपना और दूसरों का ख्याल रखें। मलेरिया का प्रसार रोकने में अपनी क्षमता, अपने स्तर का प्रयास करें। इसी दिन जाने माने बालीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता और निर्देशक आमिर खान को सिनेमा के क्षेत्र में महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए मास्टर दीनानाथ मंगेशकर स्मृति विशेष पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

2010 दक्षिण अमेरिकी राज्य मिसीसिपी में आए तूफान के कारण तीन बच्चों सहित दस लोगों की मौत हो गई। इसी दिन 2010 में भारतीय नौसेना ने पुराने हो चुके चेतक हेलीकाप्टरों की जगह नए लाइट यूटिलिटी हेलीकाप्टर (एलयूएच) खरीदने की प्रक्रिया शुरू की।

2013 ब्रिटेन ने सोमालिया में अपना दूतावास 22 वर्षों के अंतराल के बाद पुनः खोला। इसी दिन 2013 में रूस के रामेंस्की में एक अस्पताल में लगी भीषण आग में 38 लोग मारे गए।

2015 नेपाल की राजधानी काठमांडू के नजदीक आए भीषण भूकंप से 8 हजार से भी ज्यादा लोगों की मौत, हजारों घायल और भारी तबाही हुई।

2018 किशोरियों और युवा महिलाओं के यौन शोषण, हत्याओं के आरोपों में कई साल से जेल में बंद आसाराम बापू को कोर्ट ने 16 साल की एक नाबालिग का बलात्कार मामले में आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई।

2020 भारत में कोरोना के चलते मरने वाले लोगों की संख्या बढ़ कर 779 पहुंची, संक्रमितों की संख्या 24,942 से अधिक हुई। 

2021 पद्म भूषण सम्मान प्राप्त मशहूर शास्त्रीय गायक पंडित राजन मिश्र का निधन। 2021 में इसी दिन इराक में बगदाद के कोरोना अस्पताल में सिलेंडर फटने से लगी भीषण आग में 82 लोगों की मौत हुई।

Sir Maurice Linford Gwyer, GCIE, KCB, KCSI, KC was a British lawyer, judge and academic administrator. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University from 1938 to 1950 and Chief Justice of India from 1937 to 1943. He is credited with establishing the college Miranda House in 1948 in Delhi, India.

1980 US military launched a covert operation to free 53 hostages from its embassy in Tehran, but it was not successful and eight American soldiers were killed. This crisis lasted for 444 days and finally in January 1981 these hostages were released by Iran.

1981 More than 100 workers doing repair work at the nuclear power plant in Suruga, Japan, became victims of nuclear radiation.

1982 Indian television broadcast Doordarshan goes from black and white to multicolour.

1987 Arijit Singh, well-known singer and composer, was born in Ziyaganj Azimganj.

1989 Kamal Khan, well-known Bollywood playback singer, was born in Patiala, Punjab. Kamal won the singing competition, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar in 2010. She won Zee Cine Award Fresh Singing Talent 2012 for Ishq Sufiyana from The Dirty Picture movie. On the same day, more than 20,000 people died of encephalitis in Ethiopia. The disease spread to Sudan and there also killed at least 400 people.

2000 Renowned story, screenplay and story writer of Indian Hindi films, Pandit Mukhram Sharma passed away.
