1406 विश्व विख्यात अरब इतिहासकार, समाजशास्त्री और दार्शनिक इब्ने खल्दून का निधन हुआ। इनका जन्म 27 मई 1332 को ट्यूनीशिया में हुआ।

1337 इंग्लैंड में पहले डची द ब्लैक प्रिंस एडवर्ड ड्यूक ऑफ कॉर्नवाल नियुक्त हुए।

1452 रिकोंक्विस्टा-कैस्टिले और मर्सिया की संयुक्त सेना ने लोरका के आसपास लॉस एल्पेरोचोन की लड़ाई में ग्रेनेडा के अमीरात को हराया।

1672 नीदरलैंड के खिलाफ इंग्लैंड ने युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1756 सेंट पैट्रिक दिवस पहली बार न्यूयॉर्क शहर में मनाया गया। आयरलैंड के प्रसिद्ध बिशप रोमन ब्रिटिश इसाई मिशनरी संत पैट्रिक की पुण्य तिथि को धार्मिक त्यौहार के रूप में ब्रिटेन, आयरलैंड और आसपास के देशों में मनाया जाता है और इस दिन राजकीय अवकाश रहता है। लंबे समय तक अमेरिका ब्रिटेन का गुलाम रहा इसलिए ब्रिटिशों ने अमेरिका में भी अपनी संस्कृति जारी रखी थी। 

1769 ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी ने बंगाल के बुनकरों पर प्रतिबंध लगाया।

1782 ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी और मराठा शासकों के बीच सल्बाई का समझौता हुआ।

1845 लंदन के स्टीफन पेरी ने रबर बैंड का पेटेंट कराया।

1861 दस साल से ज्यादा समय तक चले आंदोलन के बाद इटली का एकीकरण हुआ।

1866 ब्रिटिश शासित भारत में इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना इलाहाबाद (अब प्रयागराज, उत्तर प्रदेश) में हुई। यह हाई कोर्ट पहले आगरा में था और इसका नाम दि कोर्ट आॅफ सदर दीवानी एंड निज़ामत अदालत था। इसने 17 मार्च 1866 को इलाहाबाद में नये बने भवन से उच्च न्यायालय के रूप में कार्य शुरु किया।

1887 विख्यात कन्नड़ लेखक, राजनीतिक, सामाजिक सचेतक, चिंतक देवनहल्ली वेंकटरमैया गुंडप्पा का जन्म मुलबागल, कर्नाटक में हुआ।

1891 ट्रान्स अटलांटिक स्टीमशिप एसएस यूटोपिया ने गलती से जिब्राल्टर की खाड़ी में युद्धपोत एचएमएस एनसन को टक्कर मार दी, जिसके डूबने से 562 की लोगों मौत हो गई। 1891 में इसी दिन जाति-भेद के विरोधी और महिला शिक्षा के प्रबल समर्थक रामनवमी प्रसाद का जन्म हुआ। 

1906 ताइवान में आए भूकंप में लगभग 1000 लोगों की जान गई।

1912 मशहूर भारतीय बाॅडी बिल्डर मनोहर ऐच का जन्म कोमिला जिला, बंगलादेश में हुआ।

1920 बांग्लादेश के पहले राष्ट्रपति शेख मुजीब-उर-रहमान का जन्म हुआ।

1922 विख्यात अमेरिकी दार्शनिक पैट्रिक सप्पस का जन्म हुआ।

1939 भारतीय जनता पार्टी के अध्यक्ष हुए राष्ट्रीय स्वयं सेवक संघ के कार्यकर्ता बंगारू लक्ष्मण का जन्म शम्शाबाद, हैदराबाद में हुआ।

1942 अमेरिका में राष्ट्रपति फ्रैंकलिन डी रुजवलेट ने दुनिया में कला के बेहतरीन संग्रहों में से एक नेशनल गैलरी ऑफ आर्ट का लोकार्पण किया।

1943 विलेम जे कोल्फ ने कृत्रिम गुर्दे की मशीन के उपयोग से विश्व का पहला हेमोडायलिसिस किया जो असफल रहा।

1946 महाराष्ट्र के प्रमुख राजनेता और मुख्यमंत्री रहे पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण का जन्म हुआ।

1957 फिलीपींस के लोकप्रिय राष्ट्रपति रेमॉन मैग्सेसे का विमान हादसे में निधन हुआ।

1959 बौद्ध धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा तिब्बत से भारत पहुंचे।

1962 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यात्री कल्पना चावला का जन्म हिसार, हरियाणा में हुआ।

1963 जाने माने अमेरिकी लेखक, प्रोफेसर, शिक्षाविद अमिताव कुमार का जन्म आरा, बिहार में हुआ। 1963 में इसी दिन बाली द्वीप पर ज्वालामुखी फटने से तकरीबन 2000 लोगों की जान गयी।

1973 स्लाव वेदेर ने पुलित्जर पुरस्कार विजेता तस्वीर बर्स्ट ऑफ जोजॉय खींची। यह संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के वियतनाम युद्ध में होने का प्रतीक बनी।

1974 फिल्म अभिनेता अमिताभ बच्चन और अभिनेत्री जया बच्चन की बेटी श्वेता बच्चन नंदा का जन्म हुआ। वे पूर्व माॅडल, हैं। लेखिका, स्तंभकार हैं। उनका उपन्यास पैराडाइज टावर्स बहुत मशहूर हुआ।

1977 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल कार्तिका राणे का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जानी मानी शास्त्रीय गायिका सिद्धेश्वरी देवी का निधन हुआ।

1987 अमेरिकन बहुराष्ट्रीय तकनीकी कंपनी इंटरनेशनल बिजनेस मशीन यानी आईबीएम ने पीसी-डीओएस 3.3 वर्जन जारी किया। इसी दिन 1987 में मशहूर भारतीय क्रिकेटर सुनील गावस्कर ने करियर का आखिरी टेस्ट मैच पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ खेला। बंगलौर में हुए इस पांच दिवसीय मैच में गावस्कर मैन ऑफ द मैच रहे। यद्यपि भारत ये मैच 16 रन से हार गया था।

1988 इरीट्रिया वॉर ऑफ इंडिपेंडेंस में द इरीट्रिया पीपुल्स लिबरेशनफ्रंट ने इथियोपिया की सेना को घेर लिया और अफलातून के बेल्ट में निर्णायक जीत हासिल की।

1989 सुपरिचित टेलीविजन अभिनेता एवं माॅडल अविनाश सचदेव की पत्नी जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल शालमली देसाई का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन अंग्रेज शासित संयुक्त प्रांत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और उत्तर प्रदेश के दो बार मुख्यमंत्री रहे हेमवती नंदन बहुगुणा का निधन।

1990 जानी मानी भारती बैडमिंटन खिलाड़न साइना नेहवाल का जन्म हुआ। 2012 के लंदन ओलिंपिक में साइना ने वुमन सिंगल्स बैडमिंटन में कांस्य पदक जीता था। बैडमिंटन में ओलिंपिक पदक जीतने वाली साइना भारत की पहली खिलाड़ी बनी थीं।

1991 नौ सोवियत गणराज्यों में लगभग 70 प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने सहमति व्यक्त की कि सोवियत संघ को संरक्षित किया जाना चाहिए।

1992 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी तेलेम जैकीचंद सिंह का जन्म मणीपुर में हुआ। इसी दिन दक्षिण अफ्रीका में जनमत संग्रह हुआ, जिसमें चमड़ी के रंग के आधार पर इंसानों में भेद करने के नियम को खत्म कर दिया गया। 17 मार्च, 1992 को दक्षिण अफ्रीका के 33 लाख श्वेत वोटर्स से पूछा गया कि क्या वो रंगभेद नियम को खत्म करना चाहते हैं? 1948 से चले आ रहे इस कानून पर हुए जनमत संग्रह में 28 लाख से ज्यादा श्वेत लोगों ने वोट किया। 68.73 फीसदी लोगों ने इसके पक्ष में वोट किया। इसके साथ ही नेल्सन मंडेला के 27 साल तक जेल में रहने की और काले अफ्रीकी लोगों का लंबा संघर्ष की जीत हुई। जनमत संग्रह कराने वाले दक्षिण अफ्रीकी राष्ट्रपति एफडब्ल्यू डी क्लार्क को नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार भी मिला। इसी दिन 1992 में अर्जेन्टीना स्थित इजरायली दूतावास पर हुए हमले में लगभग 30 लोग मरे।

1994 रूस ने नाटो की शान्ति सहयोग योजना में शामिल होने का निर्णय लिया।

1996 लाहौर में हुए क्रिकेट विश्व कप के फाइनल में ऑस्ट्रेलिया को सात विकेट से हराकर श्रीलंका विश्व चैंपियन बना। 107 रन की नाबाद पारी खेलने वाले अरविंद डिसिल्वा मैन ऑफ द मैच बने।

2002 नेपाल में सुरक्षा बलों से मुठभेड़ में 68 माओवादी मारे गये।

2003 श्रीलंका शांति वार्ता का छठा दौर हाकीन, जापान में शुरू।

2004 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा का मैसेंजर बुध ग्रह की कक्षा में प्रवेश करने वाला पहला अंतरिक्ष यान बना।

2006 अमेरिका ने भारत को भरोसेमंद साझीदार घोषित किया।

2008 चीनी मिलों को ब्याज मुक्त ऋण देने के लिए चीनी विकास निधि संशोधन विधेयक 2008 ध्वनि मत से भारतीय संसद में पारित हुआ। इसी दिन अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन केन्द्र पर वैज्ञानिकों ने मशीनी मानव को तैनात किया। इसी दिन लोकतंत्र की बहाली के बाद पाकिस्तानी संसद का पहला सत्र शुरू।

2009 बैंक ऑफ इंडिया ने अपनी बेंचमार्क प्रधान उधारी दरों में 0.5 फीसदी की कटौती की।

2011 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासंघ की सुरक्षा परिषद ने लीबिया के ऊपर नो फ्लाय जोन बनाने को मंजूरी दी। बाद में पश्चिमी देशों ने लीबिया की कर्नल मुअम्मर गद्दाफी सरकार गिरा दी। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन के अभिनेता माइकल गॉफ का निधन हुआ।

2012 अमेरिकी अपराधों की पोल खोलने वाले विकीलीक्स के जूलियन असांजे ने अपनी गिरफ्तारी की घोषणा की।

2013 बायथेनियन विश्व कप का समापन मार्टिन फोरकेड विजेता पुरुषों और तोरा बर्जर की महिलाओं के औसत विश्व कप खिताब जीतने के साथ हुआ।

2018 मॉरिशस की राष्ट्रपति अमीना गुरीब-फकीम का अपने पद से इस्तीफा।
