मोहब्बत जिंदाबाद ! 14 फरवरी को प्रेम करने वाले दुनिया भर में अपने प्रेम का इजहार करते हैं। माना जाता है कि तृतीय शताब्दी में रोम के क्रूर सम्राट क्लाउडियस गोथिकस ने प्रेम करने वालों पर जुल्म ढाए तो पादरी वैलेंटाइन ने सम्राट के आदेशों की अवहेलना कर प्रेम का संदेश दिया, इसलिए उन्हें जेल में डाल दिया गया और 14 फरवरी 269 ईसवी को फांसी पर लटका दिया गया। प्रेम के लिए बलिदान देने वाले इस संत की याद में हर वर्ष 14 फरवरी को वैलेंटाइन डे मनाने का चलन शुरू हुआ। इस दिन प्रेम करने वाले एक दूसरे को फूल इत्यादि भेंट कर अपने प्रेम का इज़हार करते हैं। प्रेमियों को हमेशा हर हिस्से में काफी हद तक नापसंद किया जाता है लिहाजा इस दिन को मनाने को लेकर कुछ लोगों को एतराज है। हमारे यहां भी इसका विरोध होता है। खासतौर से राष्ट्रीय स्वयं सेवक संघ के लोग इसके खिलाफ रहते हैं। पिछले कुछ सालों में तो 14 फरवरी को लेकर इतना झूठ फैलाया गया है कि इस दिन राजगुरु, सुखदेव और भगत सिंह को फांसी दी गई इसलिए इसदिन शहीदों को याद करना चाहिए। जबकि सब जानते हैं कि इन अमर शहीदों को 23 मार्च 1931 को फांसी दी गई। इतिहास में इसका जिक्र आता है कि करीब 2500 साल पहले रोम के सम्राट क्लाउडियस ने पादरी संत वेलेन्टाइन को फांसी पर लटकवा दिया था, क्योंकि वे प्रेमी जोड़ों का पक्ष लेते थे, जबकि सम्राट ने प्रेम को अपराध घोषित कर रखा था और शादियों पर उसने रोक लगा दी थी। सम्राट खुद शादीशुदा था, लेकिन वह सोचता था कि जो लोग प्रेम करते हैं और शादी करना चाहते हैं, वे सेना में भर्ती होना नहीं चाहेंगे। क्लाउडियस ने रोम पर 41 ईस्वी से 54 ईस्वी तक शासन किया। उसका जन्म ईसापूर्व 10 में 1 अगस्त को हुआ माना जाता है। संत वेलेन्टाइन को फांसी दिए जाने की वजह ये थी कि वे प्रेमियों का पक्ष लेते थे। उनका कहना था कि प्रेम एक नैसर्गिक भावना है और किसी को इससे रोका नहीं जा सकता। इसके अलावा, वह शादी-विवाह पर पाबंदी के भी खिलाफ थे। उनका मानना था कि ऐसा करने से समाज का ढांचा चरमरा जाएगा। इसलिए संत वेलेन्टाइन ने कुछ सैन्य अधिकारियों और सैनिकों की शादियां करवाईं। इससे सम्राट बेहद गुस्से में आ गया और उसने संत वेलेन्टाइन को गिरफ्तार करवा दिया। संत को 14 फरवरी को फांसी पर लटकवा दिया। इससे रोम और पूरे यूरोप में शोक की लहर व्याप्त हो गई और साथ ही क्लाउडियस के प्रति गुस्सा भी बढ़ गया। प्रतिरोध के रूप में तब व्यापक पैमाने पर इस दिन को प्रेम प्रदर्शन के लिए चुना गया। तब से ही यह दिन प्रेम प्रदर्शन का महापर्व वेलेन्टाइन डे मनाया जाने लगा। धीरे-धीरे यह पूरी दुनिया में फैल गया।

1483 भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में मुगल साम्राज्य के संस्थापक मिर्जा जहीरुद्दीन मोहम्मद बाबर का जन्म अंदीजान, उज्बेकिस्तान में हुआ। बाबर तैमूलरलंग और चंगेज खान के वंश से थे।

1537 गुजरात का सुल्तान बहादुर शाह पुर्तगालियों से बच कर भागने के प्रयासमें डूबने से मर गया।

1556 पंजाब के गुरुदासपुर जिले के कलानौर में 13 वर्ष की उम्र में अकबर महान का राज्यारोहण हुआ। अकबर का नाम अबुल फतेह जलालुद्दीन मोहम्मद अकबर है।

1628 आगरा में विश्व प्रसिद्ध ताजमहल तीमार कराने वाले मुगल बादशाह शाहजहाँ आगरा में सिंहासनारूढ़ हुआ। शाहजहां का नाम सहाबुद्दीन मोहम्मद खुर्रम है।

1658 दिल्ली की सत्ता हथियाने के चक्कर में मुगल वंश के आपसी सत्ता संघर्ष में दारा शिकोह ने बनारस के पास बहादुरपुर की लड़ाई में शाह शुजा को पराजित किया।
