1953 ब्रिटिश राजगद्दी पर महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय की ताजपोशी हुई। 1947 में एलिजाबेथ की शादी प्रिंस फिलिप से हुई। शादी के बाद से एलिजाबेथ ने शाही परिवार की जिम्मेदारियां संभाल ली थीं। उन दिनों किंग जॉर्ज की तबीयत खराब रहती थी इस कारण तय किया गया कि किंग जॉर्ज की जगह क्वीन एलिजाबेथ और किंग फिलिप अलग-अलग जगहों का दौरा करेंगे। 1952 में एलिजाबेथ अपने पति के साथ ऑस्ट्रेलिया और न्यूजीलैंड के दौरे पर थीं, तभी खबर मिली कि किंग जॉर्ज का निधन हो गया है। उस समय एलिजाबेथ की उम्र 25 साल थीं। यात्रा अधूरी छोड़कर एलिजाबेथ लंदन वापस लौटीं। उन्हें महारानी बनाया गया।

1955 भारत के प्रसिद्ध फिल्म निर्माता-निर्देशक मणि रत्नम (गोपाला रत्नम सुब्रमण्यम) का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध सॉफ्टवेयर कंपनी इन्फोसिस के सह-संस्थापक सदस्यों में से एक नंदन नीलेकणी का जन्म हुआ।

1988 शोमैन कहे गये प्रख्यात भारतीय फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक, अभिनेता राज कपूर का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन तेजाश्री के नाम से सुपरिचित खूबसूरत, बोल्ड हिंदी, मराठी, कन्नड़, तमिल, तेलुगू, गुजराती आदि भाषाओं की फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सोनाली जैकुमार खेले का जन्म पनहाला, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1989 लंबी दूरी की जानी मानी भारतीय धाविका ललिता बाबर का जन्म हुआ।

2005 भारत, रूस और चीन का ब्लादीवोस्तोक सम्मेलन हुआ।

2006 अमेरिका ने माफिया डाॅन दाऊद इब्राहीम तथा उसके संगठन पर प्रतिबंध लगाया।

2008 मध्य प्रदेश के स्वास्थ्य मंत्री अजय विश्नोई ने इस्तीफा दिया। इसी दिन टाटा मोटर्स ने फोर्ड मोटर के दो ब्रांड जगुआर व लैंड रोवर के अधिग्रहण का सौदा किया। इसी दिन भारतीय लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल नरेश कुमार परमार को थल सेना की चिकित्सा सेवा का महानिशेदक नियुक्त किया गया। इसी दिन ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने इराक में अपना अभियान रोका। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध फैशन गुरु इवेसां लॉरेन का निधन हुआ।

2010 एक अकेले बंदूकधारी ने इंग्लैंड के कुंबरिया में अंधाधुंध गोलीबारी कर 12 लोगों की जान ले ली और 11 अन्य को जख्मी कर दिया। 2010 में इसी दिन केरल के स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और प्रसिद्ध मलयालम उपन्यासकार कंदानिसेरी वट्टमपरंबिल वेलप्पन अय्यप्पन का देहांत हुआ।

2011 ई-कोलाई बैक्टीरिया के संक्रमण से यूरोप में 20 से अधिक लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई और 1600 से अधिक लोग बीमार हो गए। भारत सरकार ने इसी दिन शहरी क्षेत्रों में झुग्गी झोपड़ियों से मुक्ति दिलाने और गरीबों को अपने घर का सपना पूरा कराने में सहायता के लिए राजीव गांधी आवास योजना के पहले चरण को मंजूरी दी।

Carol Ann Shields is best known for her 1993 novel The Stone Diaries, for which she received the US Nobel Prize for fiction. She received the Pulitzer Prize as well as the Governor General's Award in Canada. Shields died of breast cancer in Victoria in 2003 at the age of 68.

1948 Famous Indian film, television and stage actor Anjan Srivastava, associated with the Indian People's Theatre Association, was born.

1953 Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on the British throne. In 1947, Elizabeth married Prince Philip. After marriage, Elizabeth took over the responsibilities of the royal family. Her career began as the singer and guitarist of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks during the New York City No Wave scene of the 1970s.

1967 German university student Benno Ohnesorg was killed during a demonstration in West Berlin against the visit of Iran's Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
