1946 डॉ. राम मनोहर लोहिया की अगुवाई में गोवा में पुर्तगाल के शासन के खिलाफ पहला सत्याग्रह आंदोलन शुरू हुआ।

1980 -संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के कैलिफोर्निया के नार्को में पांच नकाबपोश बंदूकधारियों ने सिक्योरिटी पैसिफिक बैंक पर कब्जा कर लिया, जिससे हिंसक गोलीबारी हुई और यह कैलिफोर्निया के इतिहास में सबसे बड़ी गतिविधियों में से एक थी। दो बंदूकधारी और एक पुलिस अधिकारी की मौत हुई, 33 पुलिसकर्मी घायल और कई नागरिक वाहन पीछा करने में नष्ट हो गए।

1985 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नेहा बंब का जन्म हुआ।

1986 हिमालय के माउंट एवरेस्ट पर पहुँचने वाले सर्वप्रथम व्यक्ति तेनजिंग नोर्गे का निधन हुआ। 1988 में इसी दिन जाने माने हास्य कलाकार, टेलीविजन अभिनेता संकेत भोंसले का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1990 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी रोबिन सिंह का जन्म नौएडा, गाजियाबाद में हुआ।

1992 एमबीबीएस करने के बाद अभिनय के क्षेत्र में पदार्पण करने वाली दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री और माॅडल साई पल्लवी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1992 में प्रसिद्ध, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड पंजाबी फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सिम्मी चहल या सिमरप्रीत कौर का जन्म अंबाला में हुआ।

1993 दक्षिणी अमेरिकी देश इक्वाडोर के नाम्बिजा क्षेत्र में भूस्खलन से तीन सौ लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन विख्यात ब्रिटिश अंग्रेजी उपन्यासकार, लघु कथाकार, पटकथाकार और फिल्म समीक्षक पेनेलोप गिलियट का निधन 61 वर्ष की आयु में 9 मई 1993 को लंदन, इंग्लैंड में हुआ।

1995 जाने-माने हिंदी निबंधकार कन्हैयालाल मिश्र प्रभाकर का निधन हुआ।

1998 बेहद लोकप्रिय भारतीय फिल्म पाश्र्व गायक और अभिनेता तलत महमूद का निधन हुआ।

2000 .जाफना प्रायःद्वीप के एलीफेंट दर्रे पर कब्जे के लिए लिट्टे के साथ हुए संघर्ष में श्रीलंका के 358 सैनिक मारे गये।

2001 घाना में अकरा स्पोर्ट्स स्टेडियम 129 फुटबॉल प्रशंसकों की मौत हो गई। ये मौतें रेफरी के एक विवादास्पद निर्णय के बाद मची भगदड़ (स्टेडियम में पुलिस कर्मियों द्वारा आंसू गैस छोड़ने के कारण) के कारण हुई।

2002 कराची विस्फोट में पाकिस्तान के ही संगठन का हाथ होने के संकेत। इसी दिन रूस के कास्पियस्न क्षेत्र में एक हॉलीडे परेड के बीच रिमोट नियंत्रित बम विस्फोट से 130 लोगों की मौत और 43 अन्य घायल हुए।

2003 गूगल ने इंटरनेट प्रोग्राम एडसेंस पेश किया। एडसेंस गूगल की विज्ञापन सेवा है। 

2004 चेचेन्या में एक विस्फोट में वहां के राष्ट्रपति अखमद कादरोव का निधन हुआ।

2005 मास्को में रूस द्वारा द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के दौरान जर्मनी सेना पर विजय की 60वीं वर्षगांठ के जलसों में भारत के प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने भाग लिया।

2006 यूरोपीय देश इस्तोनिया में यूरोपीय संविधान को मंजूरी मिली। 2008 में इसी दिन अमेरिका ने पाकिस्तान को 8.1 करोड़ डॉलर की सैन्य सहायता देने से मना कर किया

2022 डाॅलर की कीमत 77.41 रुपये हुई। भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस ने अमेरिकी डॉलर के मुकाबले रुपये के मूल्य में गिरावट को लेकर सोमवार को केंद्र सरकार पर निशाना साधते हुए आरोप लगाया कि सरकार की नीतिगत पंगुता, धार्मिक टकराव और भ्रष्टाचार की वजह से रुपया आईसीयू में चला गया है। पार्टी के मुख्य प्रवक्ता रणदीप सुरजेवाला ने संवाददाताओं से कहा कि देश के इतिहास में पहली बार डॉलर के मुकाबले रुपये की कीमत 77.41 रुपये के न्यूनतम स्तर पर चली गई। 75 साल में पहली बार रुपया आईसीयू में है और भाजपा के मार्गदर्शमंडल की तय आयु को भी पार कर गया है। प्रधानमंत्री की आयु को तो वह पहले ही पार चुका है। जयपुर में भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस की अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने पार्टी के ‘नवसंकल्प चिंतन शिविर’ से पहले पार्टी नेताओं को चेतावनी देते हुए सोमवार को कहा कि पार्टी के मंचों पर आलोचना जरूरी है, लेकिन ऐसा नहीं होना चाहिए कि आम कांग्रेसजन का आत्मविश्वास एवं हौसला टूट जाए। उन्होंने पार्टी की शीर्ष नीति निर्धारक इकाई कांग्रेस कार्य समिति (सीडब्ल्यूसी) की बैठक में कांग्रेस नेताओं का आह्वान किया कि अब पार्टी का कर्ज उतारने का समय आ गया है और ऐसे में उन्हें निरूस्वार्थ भाव एवं अनुशासन के साथ काम करना होगा क्योंकि पार्टी को फिर से मजबूत करने के लिए जादू की कोई छड़ी नहीं है। सोनिया गांधी ने कहा कि जादू की कोई छड़ी नहीं है। निस्वार्थ काम, अनुशासन और सतत सामूहिक उद्देश्य की भावना से हम दृढ़ता और लचीलेपन का प्रदर्शन कर सकते हैं। पार्टी के मंचों पर स्व-आलोचना की निश्चित तौर पर जरूरत है। लेकिन यह इस तरह से नहीं होनी चाहिए कि आत्मविश्वास और हौसले को तोड़े तथा निराशा का माहौल बनाए। कांग्रेस मुखिया सोनिया गांधी ने कहा कि कि नवसंकल्प चिंतन शिविर’ रस्म अदायगी भर नहीं होना चाहिए, बल्कि इसमें पार्टी का पुनर्गठन प्रतिबिंबित होना चाहिए। यह चिंतन शिविर 13-15 मई को उदयपुर में होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि शिविर में करीब 400 लोग शामिल हो रहे हैं, जिनमें से ज्यादातर संगठन में किसी न किसी पद पर हैं या फिर संगठन अथवा सरकार में पदों पर रह चुके हैं। हमने प्रयास किया है कि शिविर में संतुलित प्रतिनिधित्व हो, हर पहलू से संतुलन हो। सोनिया ने यह भी कहा कि राजनीति, सामाजिक न्याय एवं सशक्तीकरण, अर्थव्यवस्था, संगठन, किसान एवं कृषि तथा युवा एवं नारी सशक्तीकरण से जुड़े मुद्दों पर 6 समूहों में चर्चा होगी। 2020 कोविड-19 मंदी के कारण अमेरिकी बेरोजगारी दर 14.9 प्रतिशत तक पहुंच गई, जो महामंदी के बाद से इसकी सबसे खराब दर है।

2022 रुस-यूक्रेन युद्ध के दौरान संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति जो बिडेन ने 2022 लेंड-लीज अधिनियम पर हस्ताक्षर किए, जो कि द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध-युग की नीति है, जो यूक्रेन और अन्य पूर्वी यूरोपीय देशों में अमेरिकी उपकरणों को तेजी से पहुंचाती है।

1993 Three hundred people died in a landslide in the Nambija region of the South American country Ecuador. On this day Penelope Gilliat, noted British English novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and film critic, died on 9 May 1993 in London, England, at the age of 61.

1995 Well-known Hindi essayist Kanhaiyalal Mishra Prabhakar passed away.

1998 Talat Mehmood, a very popular Indian film playback singer and actor, passed away.

2000. 358 Sri Lankan soldiers were killed in the conflict with LTTE to capture the Elephant Pass of Jaffna Prasidhweep.
