801 सेंट्रल एपिनेन्स में आए भूकंप से रोम और स्पोलेटो भारी तबाही हुई जिससे सैन पाओलो फुओरी ले मुरा की बेसिलिका सहित तमाम इमारतें क्षतिग्रस्त हुईं।

1091 लेवूनियन की लड़ाई में पेचेनेग्स को बीजान्टिन सम्राट एलेक्सियोस प्रथम कॉमनेनोस ने हराया।

1483 कैनरी द्वीप समूह का मुख्य द्वीप ग्रैन कैनरिया पर कैस्टिले साम्राज्य ने कब्जा कर लिया।

1521 स्वीडिश मुक्ति युद्ध में स्वीडिश सैनिकों ने वेस्टरस की लड़ाई में डेनिश सेना को हराया।

1547 मेवाड़ के महाराणा प्रताप के मित्र, सहयोगी और विश्वासपात्र सलाहकार भामाशाह का जन्म हुआ।

1639 पुरानी दिल्ली स्थित, लाल बलुआ पत्थर से निर्मित है लाल किला। यह भारत की खूबसूरती और कीर्ति का बड़ा नमूना है। यहां से हर साल 15 अगस्त को देश के प्रधानमंत्री जनता को संबोधित करते हैं। इसे देखने लाखों लोग विदेशों से हर साल भारत आते हैं। यह भारत का प्रमुख पर्यटक स्थल है। भारत के पांचवे मुगल शासक शाहजहाँ ने अपनी राजधानी के रूप में दिल्ली को चुना था और 29 अप्रैल 1639 को इसका निर्माण प्रारंभ कराया था। इस किले को लाल किला इसकी दीवारों के लाल-लाल रंग के कारण कहा जाता है। इसे वर्ष 2007 में युनेस्को की ओर से विश्व धरोहर स्थल के रूप में चुना गया। शानदार गुंबदों, बेहतरीन मेहराबों और जालीदार छज्जों से सजी यह इमारत, बेहतरीन स्थापत्य कला और बेमिसाल कारीगरी का अद्भुत जीवंत प्रमाण है।

1661 चीन के मिंग वंश ने ताइवान पर कब्जा किया।

1770 ब्रिटिश खोजकर्ता जेम्स कुक यूरोपीय जहाज एचएमएस एंडेवर से पूर्वी ऑस्ट्रेलिया के सिडनी के पास बॉटनी खाड़ी के तट पर पहुंचे।

1781 अमेरिकी क्रांतिकारी युद्ध के दौरान मार्टीनिक के तट पर फोर्ट रॉयल की लड़ाई में ब्रिटिश और फ्रांसीसी जहाज एक दूसरे से भिड़ गए।

1803 जेम्स ब्रुक का बंडेल, हुगली, बंगाल में जन्म हुआ। सर जेम्स ब्रुक एक ब्रिटिश सैनिक और साहसी व्यक्ति थे जिन्होंने बोर्नियो में सरवाक के राज की स्थापना की थी। उन्होंने 1841 से 1868 में अपनी मृत्यु तक सरवाक के पहले श्वेत राजा के रूप में शासन किया। ब्रुक का जन्म और पालन-पोषण भारत में ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के राज के दौर में हुआ।

1813 अमेरिका के जेएफ हम्मेल ने रबर का पेटेंट कराया।

1826 जेम्स डनलप ने आकाशगंगा सेंटोरस ए या एनजीसी 5128 की खोज की।

1848 सुप्रसिद्ध भारतीय चित्रकार राजा रवि वर्मा का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने राम आदि रामायण और अन्य अनेक धार्मिक ग्रंथों के पात्रों के चित्र बनाए। राम आदि को हम जिस रूप में देखते हैं वे राजा रवि वर्मा की कल्पना से उपजे हैं।

1882 विश्व की प्रथम ट्रॉलीबस सेवा बर्लिन, जर्मनी में शुरू हुई।

1891 बीसवीं सदी के विख्यात तमिल कवि, लेखक और समाज सुधारक कनागासाबाई सुब्बू यानी भारतीदासन का जन्म पांडिचेरी में हुआ।

1903 कनाडा के उत्तर-पश्चिम प्रदेश में हुए भूस्खलन से 70 लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन मोहन दास कर्मचंद यानी महात्मा गांधी ने दक्षिण अफ्रीका के ट्रांसवाल हाईकोर्ट में लीगल प्रेक्टिस शुरू की और वहां ब्रिटिश इंडियन एसोसिएशन की स्थापना की ।

1910 यूनाइटेड किंगडम की संसद ने पीपुल्स बजट पारित किया, जो ब्रिटिश इतिहास में ब्रिटिश जनता के लिए सुविधाएं प्रदान करने, सरकार के परिचालन आदि के लिए बजट की व्यवस्था और पुनर्वितरण करने वाला था।

1917 विख्यात ब्रिटिश पहलवान और फिल्म, टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल मिल्टन रदरफोर्ड रिड का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1919 प्रख्यात भारतीय तबलावादक अल्ला राखा का जन्म हुआ।

1930 ब्रिटेन और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच टेलिफोन सेवा की शुरुआत हुई।

1936 पश्चिम के शास्त्रीय संगीत के भारतीय कंडक्टर कहे जाने वाले संगीतज्ञ जुबिन मेहता का जन्म हुआ।

1938 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के नेता और कई बार लोकसभा के सांसद रहे ई. अहमद का जन्म हुआ।

1939 सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस से त्यागपत्र दिया।

1946 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के राजनीतिज्ञ और छत्तीसगढ़ के पहले मुख्यमंत्री हुए अजीत जोगी का जन्म हुआ।

1945 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान आत्महत्या करने से एक दिन पहले जर्मन तानाशाह एडॉल्फ हिटलर ने बर्लिन बंकर में प्रेमिका ईवा ब्राउन से शादी की और एडमिरल कार्ल डोनिट्ज को अपना उत्तराधिकारी नियुक्त किया। इसी दिन 1945 में जापान की सेना ने रंगून (बर्मा की राजधानी) से जापानी कब्जा छोड़ा और स्वदेश वापसी शुरु की। 1945 में इसी दिन संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के सैनिकों ने जर्मनी के दचाऊ एकाग्रता, यातना शिविर को मुक्त कराया।

1946 सुदूर पूर्व के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सैन्य न्यायाधिकरण ने जापान के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री हिदेकी तोजो और 28 पूर्व जापानी नेताओं को युद्ध अपराधों के लिए बुलाया और दोषी ठहराया।

1954 प्रधानमंत्री पं. जवाहर लाल नेहरू और चीनी प्रधानमंत्री झाउ एनलाई ने शांतिपूर्ण सहअस्तित्व के पांच सिद्धांतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इसे पंचशील संधि कहते हैं। यह संधि 3 जून को लागू हुई थी।

1958 प्रख्यात भारतीय इतिहासकार, लेखक और आलोचक रामचंद्र गुहा का जन्म देहरादून में हुआ। वे भारत के प्रमुख मानवाधिकारवादी, पर्यावरण कार्यकर्ता और जनआंदोलनों के प्रमुख साथियों में से एक हैं। इसी दिन 1958 में उड़ीसा के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी तथा गाँधीवादी कार्यकर्ता रहे गोपबंधु चौधरी का निधन हुआ।

1960 प्रख्यात ओजसवी कवि, गद्यकार, अद्वितीय वक्ता बालकृष्ण शर्मा नवीन का निधन हुआ।

1965 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी वी.पी. सत्यन का जन्म कन्नूर में हुआ। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान के अंतरिक्ष और ऊपरी वायुमंडल अनुसंधान आयोग ने अपने सातवें रॉकेट का सफल प्रक्षेपण किया। इसी दिन रामानंद सागर के बहुचर्चित दूरदर्शन धारावाहिक रामायण में सीता की भूमिका निभाकर प्रसिद्धि पाने वाली अभिनेत्री दीपिका चिखालिया का जन्म हुआ। यह लोक सभा की सांसद भी रहीं।

1968 मध्य प्रदेश के शुजापुर में उदय सिंह देशमुख का जन्म हुआ जो हिंदू धर्म के हिंदू संत, धर्म गुरु भइयू महाराज के नाम से जाने जाते हैं।

1970 विख्यात अमेरिकी टेनिस खिलाड़ी आंद्रे अगासी का जन्म हुआ।

1973 मलयालम, तमिल, तेलुगू, कन्नड़, हिंदी, उर्दू, पंजाबी, बंगाली, उड़िया आदि विविध भारतीय भाषाओं के 10 हजार से अधिक गीत गाने वाली विख्यात गायिका स्वर्णलता का जन्म चित्तूर में हुआ।

1977 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड तमिल, तेलुगू फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माडल राजश्री का जन्म हुआ।

1978 अफगानिस्तान के विद्रोही गुट ने सत्ता हासिल की। काबुल रेडियो पर घोषणा की गई कि उपराष्ट्रपति, रक्षा मंत्री, गृह मंत्री और वायुसेनाध्यक्ष लड़ाई में मारे गए हैं।

1979 भारतीय क्रिकेटर आशीष नेहरा का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन क्रांतिकारी, पत्रकार और समाज सुधारक राजा महेंद्र प्रताप का निधन हुआ।

1982 अंतरराष्ट्रीय नृत्य दिवस की शुरुआत हुई। यूनेस्को के अंतरराष्ट्रीय थिएटर इंस्टिट्यूट की अंतरराष्ट्रीय डांस कमेटी ने 29 अप्रैल को नृत्य दिवस के रूप में स्थापित किया। एक महान रिफॉर्मर जीन जार्ज नावेरे के जन्म की स्मृति में यह दिन अंतरराष्ट्रीय नृत्य दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। अंतरराष्ट्रीय नृत्य दिवस को पूरे विश्व में मनाने का उद्देश्य जनसाधारण के बीच नृत्य की महत्ता का अलख जगाना था। साथ ही लोगों का ध्यान विश्वस्तर पर इस ओर आकर्षित करना था। जिससे लोगों में नृत्य के प्रति जागरुकता फैले। साथ ही पूरे विश्व में नृत्य को शिक्षा की सभी प्रणालियों में एक उचित जगह उपलब्ध कराना था। सन 2005 में नृत्य दिवस को प्राथमिक शिक्षा के रूप में केंद्रित किया गया। विद्यालयों में बच्चों द्वारा नृत्य पर कई निबंध व चित्र भी बनाए गए। 2007 में नृत्य को बच्चों को समर्पित किया गया।

1991 रात में आये भयंकर समुद्री तूफान ने बांग्लादेश में जबरदस्त कहर बरपाया, एक लाख से भी ज्यादा लोग मारे गए। लाखों बेघर हो गए। 2बी नाम का तूफान इतना घातक था कि इसकी वजह से समुद्र में 15 से 20 फीट ऊंची लहरें उठने लगीं। द्वीप डूब गए। 15 दिनों तक लाशों को हटाने का काम चलता रहा। इसे 20वीं सदी के सबसे भयानक तूफानों में से एक माना जाता है। तूफान की भयावहता का अंदाजा इसी बात से लगाया जा सकता है कि चटगांव पोर्ट पर खड़ा एक 100 टन वजनी जहाज बहकर करीब 2 किलोमीटर दूर कर्णफुली नदी के पुल से जा टकराया। इस टक्कर से जहाज के दो टुकड़े हो गए। सैकड़ों अन्य नावों और जहाजों का नुकसान हुआ। तूफान से सबसे ज्यादा नुकसान चिटगांव इलाके में हुआ था। यहां बांग्लादेशी वायुसेना का बेस है। यहां मिग-19 समेत करीब 40 विमान खड़े थे, लेकिन तूफान से यह बेकार हो गये।

1991 तमिल, तेलुगू, कन्नड़ एवं मलयालम आदि दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों की लोकप्रिय, बोल्ड और खूबसूरत अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल ओविया हेलेन नीलसन का जन्म हुआ।

1992 अमेरिका के लॉस एंजिल्स में दंगे भड़के। लॉस एंजिल्स अमेरिका का समृद्ध और चमक-दमक से भरपूर शहर है। यहीं है दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा मनोरंजन उद्योग, हाॅलीवुड।

1993 इंग्लैंड का राज महल बकिंघम पैलेस आम जनता के लिए प्रथम बार खोला गया और उसे देखने के लिए आठ पाउंड का टिकट लगाया गया।

1997 संयुक्त राष्ट्र की लंबी कोशिशों के बाद रासायनिक हथियारों पर प्रतिबंध लागू हुआ। 1997 में 1993 का रासायनिक हथियार सम्मेलन लागू हुआ, जिसके हस्ताक्षरकर्ताओं द्वारा रासायनिक हथियारों के उत्पादन, भंडारण और उपयोग को गैरकानूनी घोषित कर दिया गया। 1997 में इसी दिन भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के सत्रहवें गवर्नर आरएन मल्होत्रा का निधन हुआ।

1999 जापानी संसद ने बच्चों के यौन शोषण पर रोक संबंधी विधेयक मंजूर किया। इसी दिन प्रख्यात भारतीय फिल्म निर्देशक, निर्माता, पटकथा लेखक, गीतकार केदार शर्मा का निधन हुआ।

1999 नई दिल्ली में एक बार टेंडर जेसिका लाल की मनु शर्मा ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी। जेसिका हत्याकांड बहु चर्चित केस बना। 2006 में शर्मा को दोषी ठहराकर उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई गई। 2011 में इस पर एक फिल्म बनी, नो वन किल्ड जेसिका।

2005 सीरिया की अंतिम फौजी टुकड़ी ने लेबनान से स्वदेश वापसी के लिए प्रस्थान किया।

2006 पाकिस्तान ने हत्फ-6 मिसाइल का सफल परीक्षण किया।

2007 ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने लगातार तीसरी बार क्रिकेट विश्वकप जीता।

2008 विश्व चर्चित ईरानी राष्ट्रपति महमूद अहमदीनेजाद भारत पहुँचे। भारत और ईरान के बीच बातचीत का मुख्य मुद्दा 7 बिलियन डॉलर की गैस पाइपलाइन का था, जब अमेरिकी विरोध के बावजूद इरान के राष्ट्रपति भारत आए और प्रधानमंत्री डाॅ. मनमोहन सिंह सहित कई अन्य महत्वपूर्ण लोगों से अहमदीनेजाद ने मुलाकात की।

2008 तिब्बत में मार्च में भड़की हिंसा के सिलसिले में एक स्थानीय अदालत ने 17 लोगों को 3 साल की कैद की सजा सुनाई।

2010 गायत्री परिवार की संस्थापक सदस्या कमलादेवी शुक्ला का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन भारत और पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्रियों ने दोनों देशों के मध्य शांति वार्ता पर बातचीत शुरू करने पर सहमति दी। यह 2008 के मुंबई हमले के बाद बढ़े तनाव को कम करने की कोशिश थी। इसी दिन रडार की पकड़ में नहीं आने वाले मुंबई की मंझगांव गोदी में निर्मित आधुनिकतम उपकरणों से लैस युद्धपोत आईएनएस शिवालिक को नौसेना में शामिल किया। लंदन में भारतीय इंजीनियर हरपाल कुमार ने आँत में कैंसरग्रस्त लोगों का रक्त जांच कर रोग का पता लगाने के स्थान पर उनके पेट का निरीक्षण कर सकने वाले कैमरे का आविष्कार किया। इस उपकरण की मदद से बीमारी की समय से पहले पहचान हो सकेगी और 43 प्रतिशत रोगियों को मृत्यु से बचाया जा सकेगा।

2011 लंदन के ऐतिहासिक चर्च वेस्टमिंस्टर एबे में ब्रिटिश राजकुमार विलियम और केट मिड्लटन का विवाह हुआ।

2013 प्राग के एक कार्यालय भवन में प्राकृतिक गैस के शक्तिशाली विस्फोट 43 लोग घायल हुए।

2013 नेशनल एयरलाइंस की उड़ान 102, एक बोइंग 747-400 मालवाहक विमान, अफगानिस्तान के परवान प्रांत में बगराम एयरफील्ड से उड़ान भरने के दौरान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, जिसमें सात लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2020 1988 में आई सलाम बॉम्बे फिल्म से बाॅलीवुड डेब्यू करने वाले बेहतरीन अभिनेता इरफान खान की कैंसर से मृत्यु हो गई। इसी दिन सरकारी तौर पर कोविड-19 के संक्रमण से जान गंवाने वालों की संख्या एक हजार से अधिक हो गई बताई गई। 2020 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध मैक्सिकन खगोलशास्त्री गुइडो मंच का निधन हुआ।

2021 प्रसिद्ध अंग्रेजी लेखिका, जीवनीकार, इतिहासकार, वृत्तचित्र फिल्म निर्देशक, 40 वर्षों की अवधि में यूके और यूएस में प्रमुख टेलीविजन नेटवर्क के लिए स्वतंत्र रूप से काम करने वाली कैथरीन हेस्ट, लेडी ब्रैग (6 अगस्त 1945) का निधन हुआ।

2022 जोआना बार्न्स नामक प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री और लेखिका का निधन हुआ।

2023 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय-अमेरिकी विकास अर्थशास्त्री पद्मा देसाई का निधन हुआ।

1483 Gran Canaria, the main island of the Canary Islands, is captured by the Kingdom of Castile.

1521 Swedish troops defeat Danish forces at the Battle of Västerås in the Swedish Liberation War.

1547 Bhamashah, friend, ally and trusted advisor of Maharana Pratap of Mewar, was born.

1639 Red Fort, located in Old Delhi, is built of red sandstone. This is a great example of the beauty and fame of India. From here every year on August 15, the Prime Minister of the country addresses the public. Lakhs of people from abroad come to India every year to see it. This is a major tourist destination of India. Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal ruler of India, chose Delhi as his capital and started its construction on 29 April 1639. This fort is called Red Fort because of the red color of its walls. It was selected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2007. Adorned with magnificent domes, exquisite arches and latticed balconies, this building is a wonderful living testimony of excellent architecture and unmatched workmanship.

He ruled as the first white king of Sarawak from 1841 until his death in 1868. Brooke was born and raised in India during the British East India Company rule.

1945 German dictator Adolf Hitler marries girlfriend Eva Braun in a Berlin bunker a day before committing suicide during World War II and appoints Admiral Karl Dönitz as his successor. On this day in 1945, the Japanese army left Rangoon (the capital of Burma) under Japanese occupation and started returning home. On this day in 1945, United States troops liberated the Dachau concentration camp in Germany.

1946 The International Military Tribunal for the Far East indicted and convicted former Prime Minister of Japan Hideki Tojo and 28 former Japanese leaders for war crimes.

In 1991, a fierce storm that came at night wreaked havoc in Bangladesh, killing more than one lakh people. Millions became homeless. The storm named 2B was so deadly that it caused waves 15 to 20 feet high in the sea. The islands sank. The work of removing dead bodies continued for 15 days. It is considered one of the worst storms of the 20th century. The magnitude of the storm can be gauged from the fact that a 100 tonne ship parked at Chittagong Port got washed away and collided with the bridge of Karnaphuli river, about 2 kilometers away. Due to this collision the ship broke into two pieces. Hundreds of other boats and ships were damaged. The maximum damage caused by the storm was in Chittagong area. There is a Bangladeshi Air Force base here. About 40 aircraft including MiG-19 were parked here, but they became useless due to the storm.
