43 ईसा पूर्व म्यूटिना की लड़ाई में मार्क एंटनी फिर से औलस हर्टियस से युद्ध हार गए, जो मारे गए।

900 फिलीपींस में पाए गए सबसे पहले लिखित दस्तावेज लगुना कॉपरप्लेट शिलालेख पर अंकित विवरण के अनुसार एक ऋण लुजोन द्वीप पर टोंडो के दातू ने माफ किया था।

1092 पोप अर्बन द्वितीय ने पीसा प्रांत को महानगरीय महाधर्मप्रांत घोषित किया।

1506 पुर्तगाली कैथोलिकों द्वारा उन्नीस सौ से अधिक यहूदियों की हत्या के साथ तीन दिवसीय लिस्बन नरसंहार समाप्त हुआ।

1509 इंग्लैंड के सम्राट हेनरी सप्तम की मृत्यु के बाद उनका बेटा हेनरी अष्टम राजा बना।

1526 जहीरूद्दीन मोहम्मद बाबर और दिल्ली की सल्तनत के बादशाह इब्राहिम लोदी के बीच पानीपत की पहली लड़ाई हुई। इस लड़ाई में लोदी मारा गया और भारत में मुगल साम्राज्य की नींव पड़ी। पिता उमर शेख मिर्जा और मां कुतलुग निगार खानम की संतान जहीरुद्दीन मोहम्मद बाबर का जन्म 14 फरवरी 1483 को अंदिजान में हुआ जो आजकल उज्बेकिस्तान है। भारत में बाबर को विध्वंसक के रूप में जाना जाता है, लेकिन बाबर ने भारत को अनेक मामलों में काफी समृद्ध किया। बाबर से नफरत करने वालों को बाबर के व्यक्तित्व और कृतित्व को जानना चाहिए।

1555 लुडोविको कैरासी का बोलोग्ना, इटली में जन्म हुआ। वे प्रसिद्ध इतालवी, प्रारंभिक-बारोक चित्रकार, एचर और प्रिंटमेकर थे। 

1572 फ्रांस और इंग्लैंड के बीच स्पेन के खिलाफ सैन्य समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।

1651 सत्रहवीं सदी के प्रसिद्ध भारतीय श्रीलंकाई ईसाई मिशनरी, संत और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता जोसफ वाज़ का जन्म बेनोलिम, गोवा में हुआ।

1654 इंग्लैंड और स्वीडन के बीच व्यापार समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर हुए।

1802 बारह हजार वहाबियों ने कर्बला पर कब्जा कर लिया, संघर्ष में तीन हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गये।

1821 बेंडरली अली पाशा ओटोमन साम्राज्य के नए ग्रैंड वजीर के रूप में कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल पहुंचे लेकिन केवल नौ दिनों तक सत्ता में रहे। उसके बाद उन्हें निर्वासित कर दिया गया।

1856 ऑस्ट्रेलियाई श्रमिक आंदोलन के दौरान राजमिस्त्री और भवन निर्माण श्रमिकों ने आठ घंटे का श्रम दिवस की मांग करते हुए मेलबर्न विश्वविद्यालय से संसद भवन तक मार्च किया।

1864 प्रसिद्ध जर्मन समाजशास्त्री और नौकरशाही के सिद्धांतकार, दार्शनिक एवं इतिहासकार मैक्स वेबर (मैक्सीमिलियन कार्ल एमिल वेबर) का जन्म एरफुर्ट, जर्मनी में हुआ।

1895 अमेरिका में विकसित पहले फिल्म प्रोजेक्टर पैनटॉप्टिकॉन का प्रदर्शन किया गया।

1910 स्टॉर्मफील्ड हाउस, रेडिंग, कनेक्टिकट में सैमुअल लैंगहॉर्न क्लेमेंस मार्क ट्वेन यानी मार्क ट्वेन (जन्म 30 नवंबर, 1835) का निधन हुआ। मार्क ट्वेन विख्यात अमेरिकी लेखक, हास्यकार, आलोचक और मानवाधिकावादी, निबंधकार थे। उन्हें संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने सबसे महान हास्यकार कहा। विलियम फॉल्कनर ने उन्हें अमेरिकी साहित्य का जनक कहा।

1920 कन्नड़ भाषा के प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार और उल्लेखनीय साहित्यिक योगदान के लिए साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले तालुकिना रामास्वामैया सुब्बा राव का जन्म हुआ।

1924 भारत के प्रसिद्ध निशानेबाज कर्णी सिंह का जन्म हुआ। इन्हें 1961 में अर्जुन पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया।

1926 इंग्लैंड की वर्तमान महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय का जन्म हुआ।

1938 मशहूर शायर मोहम्मद इकबाल का पाकिस्तान के लाहौर में निधन हुआ। उन्होंने भारत का सबसे लोकप्रिय देशभक्ति गीत सारे जहां से अच्छा हिंदोस्तां हमारा लिखा।

1941 यूनान ने नाजी जर्मनी के समक्ष आत्मसमर्पण किया।

1944 भारत के पंद्रहवें मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त हुए एन गोपालास्वामी का जन्म हुआ।

1945 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेटर श्रीनिवासराघवन वेंकटराघवन का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ। इसी दिन दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान सोवियत सेना ने जर्मनी के बर्लिन शहर पर कब्जा किया। यह तानाशाह हिटलर को बड़ा झटका था।

1950 सुविख्यात फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता, माॅडल और सीआईडी जैसे धारावाहिकों में प्रमुख भूमिका निभाने वाले शिवाजी साटम का जन्म हुआ।

1960 ब्रासीलिया शहर को ब्राजील की राजधानी बनाया गया। इसे योजनाबद्ध शहर के रूप में वास्तुकार और उपनगरीय योजनाकार लुसियो कोस्टा ने डिजाइन किया था।

1967 यूनानी सैना ने सरकार का तख्ता पलट दिया।

1974 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल साई देवधर का जन्म पुणे, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1983 तमिल फिल्मों एवं टेलीविजन की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री और माॅडल जनगिरि मधुमिता का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1987 श्रीलंका की राजधानी कोलंबो में एक बम धमाके में तकरीबन सौ से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई।

1996 भारतीय वायु सेना के संजय थापर को पैराशूट के जरिए उत्तरी धुव्र पर उतारा गया।

1997 इंद्र कुमार गुजराल देश के 12वें प्रधानमंत्री बने। उस समय केंद्र में रामो-वामो गठबंधन सरकार एचडी देवगौड़ा के नेतृत्व में चल रही थी। सरकार को कांग्रेस का समर्थन प्राप्त था, लेकिन देवगौड़ा के प्रधानमंत्री बनने के 10 महीने बाद कांग्रेस ने समर्थन वापस ले लिया और सरकार गिर गई। इसके बाद अगले प्रधानमंत्री के लिए गठबंधन दलों की बैठक में इंद्र कुमार गुजराल को प्रधानमंत्री बनाने का फैसला किया गया। बैठक के समय गुजराल अपने घर पर सो रहे थे। गठबंधन के नेता उनके घर पहुंचे और गुजराल को जगाकर बताया कि उठिए, अब आपको प्रधानमंत्री बनना है। गुजराल इससे पहले जनता दल की वीपी सिंह और चंद्रशेखर सरकारों में विदेश मंत्री रहे थे। गुजराल के विदेश मंत्री रहने के दौरान ही इराक और कुवैत के बीच खाड़ी युद्ध हुआ था। गुजराल ने वहां फंसे 1 लाख 70 हजार भारतीयों को विमान से सुरक्षित देश वापस लाने का शानदार काम किया था। ये दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा सफलतम ऑपरेशन माना जाता है। इस ऑपरेशन पर बाद में अक्षय कुमार अभिनीत फिल्म एयरलिफ्ट बनी। 21 अप्रैल 1997 को गुजराल ने प्रधानमंत्री पद की शपथ ली।

2001 बांग्लादेश में भारतीय जवानों की नृशंस हत्या पर भारत ने कड़ा विरोध दर्ज कराया।

2004 इराक के बसरा में मिसाइल हमले में 68 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2006 नेपाल नरेश ज्ञानेंद्र ने चुनी हुई सरकार को सत्ता सौंपने की घोषणा की।

2007 ब्रायन लारा ने एक दिवसीय क्रिकेट से सन्यास लिया।

2008 उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने मुख्यमत्री सचिवालय में फेरबदल करते हुए नेतराम को मुख्यमंत्री का प्रमुख सचिव बनाया। इसी दिन हीरो होंडा ग्रुप ने डेमलर एजी के साथ वाणिज्यिक वाहन बनाने के लिए संयुक्त उद्यम गठित किया। इसी दिन भारत व ब्रिटेन की नौसेनाओं के बीच तीसरा साझा अभ्यास गोवा के निकट कोंकण में शुरू हुआ। इसी दिन भारत व चीन ने आपसी सहयोग बढ़ाने के लिए चार समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर हेतु अपनी सहमति व्यक्त की।

2010 विवादास्पद खार्किव संधि (गैस संधि के लिए रूसी यूक्रेनी नौसेना बेस) पर यूक्रेन के राष्ट्रपति विक्टर यानुकोविच और रूसी राष्ट्रपति दिमित्री मेदवेदेव ने खार्किव, यूक्रेन में हस्ताक्षर किए। 31 मार्च 2014 को रूस ने इस संधि को एकतरफा समाप्त कर दिया। बहुचर्चित स्पेनिश व्यवसायी, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ओलंपिक समिति के सातवें अध्यक्ष जुआन एंटोनियो समरांच का निधन हुआ।

2013 ऑस्ट्रियाई नरसंहार से बचे, लेखक और शिक्षक, गणितज्ञ लियोपोल्ड एंगलिटनर का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन आकंड़ों की गणना में हिसाब-किताब लगाने वाली मशीन को हरा देने वाली भारतीय महिला गणितज्ञ शकुंतला देवी का निधन हुआ।

2014 बर्मी पत्रकार, राजनीतिज्ञ और नेशनल लीग फॉर डेमोक्रेसी के संस्थापक विन टिन का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी शहर फ्लिंट, मिशिगन ने अपने जल स्रोत को फ्लिंट नदी में बदल दिया, इस कारण 12,000 लोगों में सीसा विषाक्तता हुई, और लीजियोनिएरेस रोग से 15 लोगों की मौत हो गई। 15 के खिलाफ आपराधिक अनैच्छिक हत्या का आरोप अभियोग चला।

2016 लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी गायक-गीतकार, गिटारवादक, निर्माता और अभिनेता प्रिंस का निधन हुआ।

2018 4 अगस्त 1900 को जन्मी नबी ताजिमा का 117 वर्ष की आयु में किकाई, कागोशिमा, जापान में निधन हुआ।

2019 ईस्टर संडे को श्रीलंका में चर्चों, होटलों और अन्य स्थानों पर आठ बम विस्फोट हुए जिसमें 250 से अधिक लोग मारे गए। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध स्कॉटिश बैरिस्टर, लेखक और पर्यावरण पैरोकार पोली हिगिंस का निधन हुआ।

2021 इंडोनेशियाई नौसेना की पनडुब्बी केआरआई नंगगाला (402) एक सैन्य अभ्यास के दौरान बाली सागर में डूब गई, जिससे नौका में सवार सभी 53 लोगों की मौत हो गई। इसी दिन 2021 प्रख्यात बांग्ला कवि, आलोचक एवं शिक्षाविद शंख घोष का देहांत हुआ। इसी दिन प्रख्यात इस्लामिक विद्वान सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता मौलाना वहीदुद्दीन खान का इंतकाल हुआ।

2023 आम आदमी पार्टी के संयोजक और दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल ने मांग की है कि दिल्ली पुलिस में हुए 350 करोड़ रुपए के घोटाले की जांच करवाई जाए। केजरीवाल ने कहा कि केंद्र सरकार के अधीन आने वाली दिल्ली पुलिस में हुए इस घोटाले की निष्पक्ष जांच कराकर दोषियों को जेल भेजा जाए। इस मुद्दे पर दिल्ली के कैबिनेट मंत्री सौरभ भारद्वाज ने एलजी वी.के. सक्सेना पर हमला बोला और कहा कि दिल्ली पुलिस एलजी साहब की जिम्मेदारी है। ऑडिट में सामने आया है कि एलजी साहब की नाक के नीचे पुलिस विभाग में प्रोफेशनल सर्विस के पैसे को डायवर्ट कर फर्जी बिलों के जरिए 350 कोड़ रुपए का घोटाला हुआ है। आम आदमी पार्टी की मांग है कि एलजी अपनी नैतिक जिम्मेदारी लेते हुए इस घोटाले की जांच स्वतंत्र एजेंसी से कराएं। बताया जाता है कि कुछ दिन पहले दिल्ली पुलिस की एक ऑडिट हुआ था उससे जानकारी मिली है कि दिल्ली पुलिस में कथित तौर पर करीब 350 करोड़ रुपए का घोटाला हुआ है। बताया जाता है कि यह पैसा प्रोफेशनल सर्विसेज के नाम पर आवंटित किया गया था। इसके तहत प्रोफेशनल व विशेषज्ञ को हायर करना था, लेकिन इस पैसे को छोटे-मोटे कामों (जैसे रंगाई-पुताई व मरम्मत के कार्य) में डायवर्ट किया गया। आरोप है कि ठेकेदारों से फर्जी बिल बनवाए गए। उन फर्जी बिलों के अनुसार जो कार्य कराए गए, उसको भी कई गुना बढ़ा-चढ़ा कर दिखाया गया। मालूम हो कि दिल्ली पुलिस सीधे केंद्रीय ग्रह मंत्रालय के अधीन है। शुक्रवार को केजरीवाल ने केंद्र सरकार से कहा कि दिल्ली पुलिस आपके अधीन आती है। क्या इसकी जांच होगी और क्या दोषी जेल जाएंगे। अरविंद केजरीवाल ने कहा कि दिल्ली में कानून व्यवस्था पूरी तरह से चरमरा गई है। दूसरों के कामों में अड़चन डालने और हर बात पर गंदी राजनीति करने की बजाए सबको अपने-अपने काम पर ध्यान देना चाहिए।

1944 N. Gopalaswamy, the fifteenth Chief Election Commissioner of India, was born.

1945 Famous Indian cricketer Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan was born in Madras. On this day, during the Second World War, the Soviet Army captured the German city of Berlin. This was a big blow to dictator Hitler.

1996 Sanjay Thapar of the Indian Air Force was landed on the North Pole via parachute.

1997 Inder Kumar Gujral became the 12th Prime Minister of the country. At that time the Ramo-Left coalition government was running at the center under the leadership of HD Deve Gowda. The government was supported by the Congress, but 10 months after Deve Gowda became Prime Minister, the Congress withdrew support and the government fell. After this, in the meeting of the coalition parties for the next Prime Minister, it was decided to make Inder Kumar Gujral the Prime Minister. Gujral was sleeping at his home at the time of the meeting. The leaders of the alliance reached his house and woke up Gujral and told him to get up, now he has to become the Prime Minister. Gujral had earlier been the Foreign Minister in the Janata Dal's VP Singh and Chandrashekhar governments. The Gulf War took place between Iraq and Kuwait during Gujral's tenure as Foreign Minister. Gujral had done a brilliant job of bringing back 1 lakh 70 thousand Indians stranded there safely to the country by plane. This is considered to be the world's largest successful operation. Later, the film Airlift starring Akshay Kumar was made on this operation. On 21 April 1997, Gujral took oath as Prime Minister.

2001 India lodged a strong protest against the brutal killing of Indian soldiers in Bangladesh.

2004 68 people died in a missile attack in Basra, Iraq.

2006 Nepal King Gyanendra announced handing over power to the elected government.

2007 Brian Lara retired from one-day cricket.

2008 Uttar Pradesh government reshuffled the Chief Minister's Secretariat and made Netram the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. On the same day, Hero Honda Group formed a joint venture with Daimler AG to manufacture commercial vehicles. On the same day, the third joint exercise between the navies of India and Britain began in Konkan near Goa. On the same day, India and China agreed to sign four agreements to increase mutual cooperation.

2010 The controversial Kharkiv Treaty (Russian Ukrainian Naval Bases for Gas Treaty) is signed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
