871 वेसेक्स इंग्लैंड के एथेलरेड प्रथम और अल्फ्रेड द ग्रेट ने डेनलॉ वाइकिंग्स के आक्रमण को विफल करने के लिए वेस्ट सैक्सन सेना का नेतृत्व किया।

1037 मेई प्रान्त चीन में सु शी का जन्म हुआ जिनका शिष्टाचार नाम जिजान, कला नाम डोंगपो था। वह प्रसिद्ध चीनी कवि, निबंधकार, राजनेता, सुलेखक, चित्रकार, गैस्ट्रोनोम और यात्रा लेखक थे जो सोंग राजवंश के दौरान हुए।

1198 लोटारियो डे कोंटी पोप इन्नोसेंट तृतीय के रूप में चुने गये तो उन्होंने पोप और सर्वोच्च इसाई धार्मिक निकाय वेटिकन सिटी की शक्ति राज्य शासन पर स्थापित करने का भरपूर प्रयत्न किया।

1642 आर्केट्री, टस्कनी का ग्रैंड डची में गैलीलियो डि विन्सेन्जो बोनाइउटी डे गैलीली (जन्म 15 फरवरी 1564 पीसा इटली) का निधन हुआ। गैलीलियो गैलीली इतालवी खगोलशास्त्री, भौतिक विज्ञानी, दार्शनिक और इंजीनियर गैलीलियो को अवलोकन संबंधी खगोल विज्ञान, आधुनिक युग की शास्त्रीय भौतिकी, वैज्ञानिक पद्धति, तथा आधुनिक विज्ञान का जनक कहा जाता है।

1697 ब्रिटेन में आखिरी बार ईशनिंदा के आरोप के लिए मृत्युदंड दिया गया था। पहले ईश्वर में किसी व्यक्ति के आस्था न रखने का पता चलने पर उसे भगवान की निंदा माना जाता था और उसे मृत्यु दंड दे दिया जाता था। बाद में इस व्यवस्था को समाप्त कर दिया गया।

1790 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के प्रथम निर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज वाशिंगटन ने यूनिवर्सिटी स्टेट का पहला संबोधन न्यूयॉर्क शहर में दिया।

1811 जर्मन तट विद्रोह, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के इतिहास में सबसे बड़ा दास विद्रोह, लुइसियाना में हुआ था। पहले दुनिया भर में गरीब लोग भेड़, बकरियों अन्य जानवरों की तरह खरीदे बेचे जाते थे। हिंदू जिस राम राज को आदर्श मानते हैं उस दौर में भी महिला, पुरुष और बच्चों की खरीदो-फरोख्त होती थी।

1815 जनरल एंड्रयू जैकसन के नेतृत्व में अमेरिकी सेना ने न्यू ऑरलियन्स की लड़ाई में ब्रिटिश सेना को हराया, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका और यूनाइटेड किंगडम ने 1812 के युद्ध को समाप्त करने के लिए गेंट की संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1836 इंग्लैंड के दो शहरों लंदन और ग्रीनविच रेलवे के अपने पहला खंड, लंदन, इंग्लैंड में पहले रेलवे स्टेशन का शुभारंभ हुआ।

1856 डॉ. जॉन वीच ने हाइड्रेटेड सोडियम बोरेट की खोज की।

1867 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका कांग्रेस ने अफ्रीकी अमेरिकी पुरुषों को वाशिंगटन, डी.सी. में वोट देने का अधिकार देने के लिए विधेयक पारित किया।

1877 क्रेजी हॉर्स और उसके योद्धाओं ने वुल्फ माउंटेन, मोंटाना टेरिटरी में यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स कैवेलरी के खिलाफ अपनी आखिरी लड़ाई लड़ी।

1878 किसानों से सहानुभूति रखने वाले, रूसी जन-जीवन के बारे में गहनता से लिखने वाले रूसी कवि, लेखक, आलोचक और प्रकाशक निकोले अलेक्सेयेविच नेक्रासोव का सेंट पीटर्सबर्ग रूस में निधन हुआ।

1884 प्रसिद्ध धर्मगुरु और ब्रह्म समाज के सह संस्थापक केशव चंद्र सेन का निधन हुआ।

1889 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी सांख्यिकीविद हरमन होलेरिथ को सांख्यिकीय उपकरण पंच कार्ड कैलकुलेटर लागू करने की कला के लिए अमेरिकी पेटेंट रु395,791 मिला।

1890 प्रख्यात हिंदी साहित्यकार रामचंद्र वर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1908 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री फियरलैस नादिया या निडर नाडिया का जन्म आॅस्ट्रलिया के पर्थ में हुआ। इनका वास्तविक नाम मैरी एन इवांस था। वैसे यहां इनका एक नाम नादिया वादिया भी था। यह फिल्मों में मार-कुटाई करने के लिए ज्यादा पसंद की जाती थीं। यानी यह स्टंट वुमन थीं। नादिया अभिनीत बंबई की वाडिया मूवीटोन कंपनी की 1935 में आई फिल्म हंटरवाली बहुत लोकप्रिय हुई।

1909 प्रख्यात बांग्ला कवियत्रि और उपन्यासकार पद्मश्री और ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार प्राप्त आशापूर्णा देवी का जन्म हुआ।

1912 दक्षिण अफ्रीकी मूल राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के नाम से अफ्रीकी राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस एएनसी की स्थापना हुई।

1925 अमृतसर में मोहन राकेश का जन्म हुआ। वे 1950 के दशक में भारत में हिंदी साहित्य के नई कहानी साहित्यिक आंदोलन के अग्रदूतों में से एक हुए। उन्होंने पहला आधुनिक हिंदी नाटक आषाढ़ का एक दिन लिखा, जिसे संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार मिला। वे कहानीकार, निबंधकार, आलोचक और नाटककार थे।

1926 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय ओडिसी नर्तक केलुचरण महापात्र का जन्म हुआ।

1929 जाने माने भारतीय अभिनेता सईद जाफरी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन नीदरलैंड्स और वेस्टइंडीज के बीच पहला टेलीफोन संपर्क स्थापित हुआ।

1936 ईरान के राष्ट्र प्रमुख रेजा शाह पहलवी ने कश्फ-ए हिजाब डिक्री / राजाज्ञा जारी कर तुरंत प्रभाव से लागू कराई जिसमें सार्वजनिक स्थानों पर इस्लामी बुर्के पहनने पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया।

1938 भारतीय फिल्मों की प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री नंदा का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के कोल्हापुर में हुआ। 1960 की आंचल और 1965 की जब जब फूल खिले जैसी तमाम लोकप्रिय फिल्मों में इन्होंने अभिनय किया। इनका निधन 25 मार्च 2014 को मुंबई के वर्सोवा में हुआ।

1940 ब्रिटिश सरकार ने मक्खन, बेकन, हैम और चीनी के लिए राशन कार्ड की शुरुआत की। पूरी जनता को यह चीजें मुहैया हो सकें इसके लिए राशनिंग व्यवस्था लागू की गई।

1941 भारत सेवाश्रम संघ के स्वामी प्रणवानंद का निधन हुआ।

1942 ऑक्सफोर्ड, इंग्लैंड में स्टीफन विलियम हॉकिंग का जन्म हुआ। (निधन 14 मार्च 2018) विश्व विख्यात अंग्रेजी सैद्धांतिक भौतिक विज्ञानी, ब्रह्मांड विज्ञानी और लेखक, कैम्ब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय में सैद्धांतिक ब्रह्मांड विज्ञान केंद्र में अनुसंधान के निदेशक, कैम्ब्रिज में गणित के लुकासियन प्रोफेसर रहे। 

1952 अरब की खाड़ी के देश जॉर्डन ने संविधान अंगीकार किया।

1956 जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री सागरिका घाटगे का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के कोल्हापुर में हुआ।

1957 जानी मानी माॅडल, अभिनेत्री और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता नफीसा अली का जन्म हुआ।

1958 14 वर्षीय बॉबी फिशर ने संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की शतरंज चैम्पियनशिप जीती।

1964 अपने राज्य के संबोधन के दौरान, अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति लिंडन बी जॉनसन ने गरीबी पर युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1966 दो बीघा जमीन, बंदिनी, पतिता, मधुमति जैसी तमाम कालजयी फिल्में निर्देशित करने वाले प्रतिष्ठित और विश्व विख्यात फिल्मकार बिमल राय का देहावसान हुआ।

1971 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जुल्फिकार अली भुट्टो ने एक विपक्षी नेता शेख मुजीबुर रहमान को जेल से आजाद किया।

1973 सोवियत अंतरिक्ष मिशन ल्यूना 21 लांच किया गया।

1975 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय संगीतकार हैरिस जयराज का जन्म हुआ।

1976 (आयु 48 वर्ष), लास वेगास, नेवादा, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका जेनिफर डायने लुईस एक अमेरिकी गायिका-गीतकार, संगीतकार और अभिनेत्री हैं। वह इंडी रॉक बैंड रिलो किली की प्रमुख गायिका, लय गिटार वादक और कीबोर्ड वादक थीं

1984 उत्तर कोरिया के वर्तमान सर्वोच्च नेता किम जोंग उन का जन्म हुआ। 1984 में इसी दिन पहली भारतीय महिला पायलट सुषमा मुखोपाध्याय का निधन हुआ।

1987 प्रख्यात क्रिकेटर पीजी जोशी का निधन हुआ।

1989 जाने माने भारतीय अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेता करन सोनी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1990 पश्चिम बंगाल के बशीरहाट से त्रणमूल कांग्रेस की लोक सभा सदस्य और चर्चित अभिनेत्री नुसरत जहां का जन्म हुआ।

1995 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और जयप्रकाश नारायण तथा राममनोहर लोहिया के सहयोगी रहे मधु लिमय का निधन हुआ।

1996 अलजिरीयन मालवाहक विमान कांगो की राजधानी किंशासा में एक भीड़ भरे बाजार में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, 300 लोगो की मौत हुई। इसी दिन फ्रांस के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति फ्रांस्वा मितरां का 79 वर्ष की आयु में पेरिस में देहान्त।

2000 नैशविले, टेनेसी, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में नूह लिंडसे साइरस का जन्म हुआ। नूह लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकी गायिका, मॉडल, अभिनेत्री और परोपकारी हैं।

2001 आइवरी कोस्ट में विद्रोह विफल हुआ। भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी वियतनाम व इंडोनेशिया की सात दिवसीय यात्रा पर वियतनाम पहुँचे। भारत-वियतनाम ने कई समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किये। इसी दिन घाना में जैसी रालिंग्स का दो दशक पुराना शासन समाप्त हुआ, जॉन कुफारे राष्ट्रपति बने।

2002 मॉस्को, रूस में अलेक्जेंडर मिखाइलोविच प्रोखोरोव (जन्म 11 जुलाई 1916) का निधन हुआ। वे प्रसिद्ध ऑस्ट्रेलियाई मूल के रूसी भौतिक विज्ञानी थे जो लेजर पर अपने अग्रणी शोध के लिए जाने जाते थे। उन्हें 1964 में चार्ल्स हार्ड टाउन्स और निकोले बसोव के साथ भौतिकी में नोबेल पुरस्कार मिला।

2008 भारत की केंद्रीय सरकार ने अरुण रामनाथन को वित्त सचिव नियुक्त किया। इसी दिन प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने 6ठे प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया। इसी दिन उपन्यासकार व पत्रकार मैक्डोनाल्ड फ्रेजर का निधन।

2009 पूर्व उपराष्ट्रपति भैरोसिंह शेखावत ने लोकसभा चुनाव लड़ने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन कोस्टा रिका के उत्तरी क्षेत्र में 6.1 तीव्रता के भूकम्प में 15 लोगों की मौत एवं 32 अन्य घायल हुए। इसी दिन मिस्र के पुरातत्ववेत्ताओं ने 4,300 वर्ष पुराने पिरामिड में रानी सेशेशेट की ममी की खोज की।

2010 कैबिदा के एंक्लेव ऑफ द लिबरेशन फॉर फ्रंट ऑफ द कैबिंडा के बंदूकधारियों ने टोगो राष्ट्रीय फुटबॉल टीम को अफ्रीका कप ऑफ नेशंस में पहुंचाने वाली बस पर हमला किया, जिसमें तीन की मौत हो गई।

2011 चीनी अभियोजकों ने दावा किया कि सात साल की अवधि में भ्रष्टाचार में संलिप्त युन्नान में 600 से अधिक लोगों को मृत्यु दंड दिया गया। 2011 में इसी दिन अमेरिका के एरिजोना के टक्सन में, जेरेड ली लफ्नर ने एक आउटडोर सार्वजनिक बैठक में आग लगा दी, जिसमें छह लोग मारे गए और बारह अन्य घायल हो गए।

2012 15 जॉर्जियाई सैनिकों को समुद्री डाकू द्वारा बंधक बनाए जाने के एक साल बाद सोमालियाई सरकार द्वारा किए गए प्रयासों के माध्यम से रिहा किया गया।

2013 2012 का मौसम अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिकों के अध्ययनों के अनुसार अब तक के सबसे गर्म वर्ष के रूप में दर्ज किया गया है।

2014 67वें ब्रिटिश अकादमी फिल्म पुरस्कारों के नामांकन की घोषणा की गई है। सैंड्रा बुलॉक को उनकी फिल्म ग्रेविटी के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री नामांकित किया गया है। यह अल्फांसो क्यूरोन द्वारा निर्देशित है।

2017 ताजरिश, ईरान में अली अकबर हाशमी बहरामनी रफसंजानी का निधन हुआ, यह प्रसिद्ध ईरानी राजनीतिज्ञ और लेखक हुए जो 1989 से 1997 तक ईरान के चौथे राष्ट्रपति रहे। इस्लामिक गणराज्य के संस्थापकों में से एक, रफसंजानी विशेषज्ञों की सभा के प्रमुख थे। इसी दिन पीटर एर्डली सरस्टेड (जन्म 10 दिसंबर 1941, नई दिल्ली) का निधन हुआ। वे प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश गायक, गीतकार और संगीतज्ञ हुए।

2020 यूक्रेन इंटरनेशनल एयरलाइंस का यात्री विमान उड़ान संख्या 752 तेहरान इमाम खुमैनी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर उड़ान भरने के तुरंत बाद दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई। विमान में सवार सभी 176 लोग मारे गए। बाद में पता चला कि विमान को ईरानी विमान भेदी मिसाइल द्वारा मार गिराया गया था। इसी दिन भारत के केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने बाहरी अंतरिक्ष सहयोग के लिए भारत और मंगोलिया के बीच समझौते को मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन भारतीय प्रतिस्पर्धा आयोग (सीसीआई) ने भारत में ई-कॉमर्स पर बाजार अध्ययन महत्वपूर्ण निष्कर्ष और अवलोकन शीर्षक वाली एक रिपोर्ट जारी की। सीसीआई द्वारा भारत में ई-कॉमर्स पर बाजार अध्ययन की शुरुआत अप्रैल 2019 में की गई थी। इसी दिन टेलिकॉम कंपनी रिलायंस जियो ने वाई-फाई कॉलिंग को आधिकारिक तौर पर लॉन्च कर दिया। बताया गया कि यह सेवा किसी भी वाई-फाई पर और भारत में प्रत्येक जगह काम करेगी।

2021 बुखारेस्ट, रोमानिया में इयान्कु सुकार्मन का निधन हुआ। वह रोमानियाई यहूदी कृषि इंजीनियर और होलोकॉस्ट, इयासी पोग्रोम से बचे व्यक्ति थे। डेथ्स ट्रेन का अंतिम उत्तरजीवी था जिसका उपयोग लियोनार्ड जाइसेस्कु के बाद इयासी रेलवे स्टेशन से यहूदियों को निर्वासित करने के लिए किया गया था। मतलब नरसंहार में वह भी मारे जाने वाले थे लेकिन वे जीवित बच गये।

2023 केंद्र सरकार ने 6 महीने का और समय मांगा था नागरिकता संशोधन अधिनियम (सीएए) के तहत नियम बनाने के लिए जिसे राज्यसभा की कमेटी ने स्वीकार कर लिया है। लोकसभा कमेटी के फैसले का अभी इंतजार है। गृह मंत्रालय ने कहा था कि नागरिकता संशोधन अधिनियम के लिए नियम बनाने के लिए छह महीनों की और जरूरत है, इसके बिना इसे लागू नहीं किया जा सकता। लगातार 7वीं बार गृह मंत्रालय को ये अतिरिक्त समय दिया गया है। जानकारी के अनुसार, राज्यसभा में अधीनस्थ विधान पर संसदीय समिति द्वारा सीएए नियम बनाने का समय पिछले वर्ष 31 दिसंबर तक और लोकसभा में अधीनस्थ विधान पर संसदीय समिति द्वारा 9 जनवरी 2023 तक बढ़ा दिया गया था। सूत्रों ने बताया कि गृह मंत्रालय ने 6 महीने का और समय मांगा है ताकि इसे लागू किया जा सके। राज्य सभा की कमेटी ने इसे स्वीकार कर लिया है और 30 जून तक का समय दिया है, वहीं लोकसभा कमेटी के फैसले का अभी इंतजार है। इसी दिन कांग्रेस की हिमाचल सरकार में मुख्यमंत्री सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने अपने नौ सदस्यीय मंत्रिमंडल में छह विधायकों को मुख्य संसदीय सचिव (सीपीएस) नियुक्त किया। इसके साथ ही, उन्होंने अपने मंत्रिमंडल में 7 नए विधायकों को शामिल किया। 11 दिसंबर को उपमुख्यमंत्री मुकेश अग्निहोत्री के उन्होंने शपथ ली थी। इसके बाद से ये पहला मंत्रिमंडल विस्तार है। सुक्खू ने यहां मुख्य संसदीय सचिवों को पद एवं गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलाई। उनके नाम हैं, सुंदर सिंह ठाकुर, मोहन लाल ब्राक्टा, राम कुमार चैधरी, आशीष बुटेल, किशोरी लाल और संजय अवस्थी। एक महीने पुरानी कांग्रेस सरकार ने रविवार को अपने पहले कैबिनेट विस्तार में सात मंत्रियों को शामिल किया, जिनमें पहली बार चुने गए और अनुभवी विधायक शामिल हैं। सबसे उम्र दराज 82 वर्षीय कर्नल धनी राम शांडिल हैं, जो तीन बार के विधायक और पूर्व संसद सदस्य हैं। इसी दिन अभिनेता और जन सेना पार्टी (जेएसपी) के नेता पवन कल्याण ने हैदराबाद में तेलुगू देशम पार्टी (तेदेपा) के अध्यक्ष एन. चंद्रबाबू नायडू से मुलाकात की। अभिनेता-राजनेता ने पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री से जुबली हिल्स स्थित उनके आवास पर मुलाकात की। दोनों नेता आंध्र प्रदेश में नवीनतम राजनीतिक घटनाक्रमों और विभिन्न मुद्दों पर दोनों दलों के एक साथ काम करने की संभावना पर चर्चा कर रहे थे। सड़कों पर जनसभाओं पर रोक लगाने वाली जगन मोहन रेड्डी सरकार द्वारा हाल ही में जारी किए गए आदेश के खिलाफ लड़ने के लिए उनके संयुक्त कार्य योजना बनाने की संभावना है। गुजरे सप्ताह चित्तूर जिले में अपने विधानसभा क्षेत्र कुप्पम के दौरे के दौरान टीडीपी प्रमुख को रोड शो करने और सभाओं को संबोधित करने से रोक दिया गया था। विवादास्पद सरकारी आदेश 28 दिसंबर को नेल्लोर जिले के कुदुकुर में नायडू के रोड शो के दौरान मची भगदड़ के मद्देनजर जारी किया गया था, जिसमें आठ लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। विपक्षी दलों ने पाबंदियों के लिए वाईएसआर कांग्रेस पार्टी (वाईएसआरसीपी) सरकार की आलोचना की है और इसे विपक्ष की आवाज दबाने का प्रयास करार दिया है। तमाम विपक्षी दलों ने सरकार से आदेश को तत्काल वापस लेने की मांग की है।

2023 ब्राजील में आम चुनाव में तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपति जायर बोल्सोनारो की हार और उनके उत्तराधिकारी लुइस इनासियो लूला दा सिल्वा के पद ग्रहण करने के बाद, बोल्सोनारो के समर्थकों की भीड़ ने राजधानी ब्रासीलिया में ब्राजील की संघीय सरकार की इमारतों पर हमला किया। भीड़ ने सर्वोच्च संघीय न्यायालय, राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस भवन और प्राका डॉस ट्रेस पोडेरेस में प्लानाल्टो प्रेसिडेंशियल पैलेस को क्षतिग्रस्त किया। लोकतांत्रिक रूप से निर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति लूला को हिंसक रूप से उखाड़ फेंकने की कोशिश की।
