3 ईसा पूर्व 24 दिसंबर को टेरासिना के पास, इटली, रोमन साम्राज्य में गल्बा (सर्वियस सल्पिसियस गल्बा) का जन्म हुआ जो नीरो की आत्महत्या के बाद सम्राट बना।

36 ईस्वी में 24 दिसंबर को गोंगसुन शू का निधन हुआ जो चेंगजिया के राज्य के संस्थापक और एकमात्र सम्राट थे, जिसने 25 से 36 तक चीन के सिचुआन बेसिन को नियंत्रित किया। पश्चिमी हान और अल्पकालिक शिन राजवंशों के एक सफल अधिकारी थे। जब 23 में हान राजवंश को बहाल करने के उद्देश्य से हुए विद्रोहों के बीच शिन शासन गिर गया, तो गोंगसन दाओजियांग कमांडरी के प्रशासक थे। राजनीतिक और सैन्य युद्धाभ्यास की एक श्रृंखला के माध्यम से, गोंगसन ने यी प्रांत पर नियंत्रण हासिल कर लिया और 24 में खुद को शू का राजा घोषित कर दिया। अगले वर्ष गोंगसन ने शाही उपाधि धारण की और चेंग राजवंश की स्थापना की। उनके प्रशासन के तहत सिचुआन क्षेत्र ने शांति और आर्थिक समृद्धि बढ़ी। चेंगदू शहर को एक शाही राजधानी के रूप में विकसित किया गया। गोंगसन ने रक्षात्मक सैन्य मुद्रा अपनाई जिससे उसका प्रभाव सिचुआन तक ही सीमित रहा जबकि लियू शियू के पुनर्जीवित पूर्वी हान शासन ने उत्तरी चीन के मैदान को सुरक्षित कर लिया। 36 में पूर्वी हान आक्रमण बल के खिलाफ लड़ाई में गोंगसन घातक रूप से घायल हो गये और अगले दिन चेंगजिया राज्य ने आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया।

502 चीनी सम्राट सम्राट जिआओ यान (लियांग वू) ने अपने पुत्र जिओ टोंग को अपना उत्तराधिकारी नियुक्त किया।

640 अपने पूर्ववर्ती की मृत्यु के कई महीनों बाद पोप जॉन चतुर्थ निर्वाचित हुए।

759 चीन में तांग राजवंश के कवि डू फू अपने साथी कवि पेई डि के साथ चेंगदू के लिए रवाना हुए, जहाँ उन्होंने अपनी अनेक प्रसिद्ध कविताओं की रचना की।

1294 सेंट सेलेस्टाइन पंचम के पद त्याग के बाद पोप बोनिफेस आठवें को पोप चुना गया।

1474 इटली के फ्लोरेंस में बार्टोलोमियो डिगली ऑर्गेनी का जन्म हुआ जो पुनर्जागरण के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार, गायक और ऑर्गेनिस्ट और संगीत शिक्षक हुए।

1500 संयुक्त वेनिस-स्पेनिश सैन्य दल ने सेफालोनिया द्वीप पर सेंट जॉर्ज के महल पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1524 यूरोप से भारत तक पहुँचने के समुद्री मार्ग का पता लगाने वाले पुर्तगाली खोजी नाविक वास्को द गामा का कोच्चि (केरल, भारत) में निधन हुआ।

1715 स्वीडन की सेना ने नार्वे पर कब्जा किया।

1737 भोपाल की लड़ाई में मराठा सेना ने मुगल साम्राज्य, जयपुर के राजपूतों, हैदराबाद के निजाम, अवध के नवाब और बंगाल के नवाब की संयुक्त सेना को हराया।

1777 अंग्रेजी खोजकर्ता ब्रिट जेम्स कुक के नेतृत्व में एक खोजी अभियान दल ने क्रिसमस द्वीप खोजा। इसका वास्तविक नाम किरीटीमाटी है। उत्तरी रेखा द्वीप समूह में यह प्रशांत महासागरीय एटोल है। यह किरिबाती गणराज्य का हिस्सा है। किरीटीमाटी नाम अंग्रेजी शब्द क्रिसमस से लिया गया है, जो इसके स्वर विज्ञान के अनुसार गिल्बर्टीज में लिखा गया है, जिसमें संयोजन ती का उच्चारण एस, देते हुए किया जाता है।

1798 रूस और ब्रिटेन के बीच दूसरे फ्रांस विरोधी गठबंधन पर हस्ताक्षर हुए।

1818 साइलेंट नाइट नामक लोकप्रिय क्रिसमस कैरोल या गीत का फ्रांज जेवर ग्रुबर ने ऑस्ट्रिया के छोटे से शहर ओबरनडॉर्फ बी साल्जबर्ग में जोसेफ मोहर के गीतों के साथ संगीतबद्ध कर चर्च में प्रदर्शित किया। 2011 में यूनेस्को ने अमूर्त सांस्कृतिक विरासत घोषित किया। यह गीत पहली बार 1905 में रिकॉर्ड किया गया। यह बहुत लोकप्रिय गीत बना। 137,000 से अधिक ज्ञात रिकॉर्डिंग के साथ सर्वाधिक रिकॉर्ड किया गया क्रिसमस गीत।

1880 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, गाँधीवादी और पत्रकार भोगराजू पट्टाभि सीतारामैया का जन्म हुआ।

1892 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी पत्रकार और साहित्यकार बनारसीदास चतुर्वेदी का जन्म हुआ।

1894 कलकत्ता में पहले मेडिकल कांफ्रेस का आयोजन किया गया।

1899 महाराष्ट्र के प्रसिद्ध लेखक, शिक्षक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता एवं स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी पांडुरंग सदाशिव साने या साने गुरुजी का जन्म पालगढ़ में हुआ।

1913 अमेरिका के मिशिगन के कैलमेट में एक भीड़ भरी क्रिसमस पार्टी में भगदड़ मचने से 70 से अधिक लोगों की मौत हो गई।

1914 बाबा आम्टे के नाम से प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और कुष्ठ रोगियों की सेवा करने वाले मुरलीधर देवदास आम्टे का हिंगनघाट महाराष्ट्र में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन ब्रिटिश और जर्मन सैनिकों ने क्रिसमस मनाने के लिए प्रथम विश्व युद्ध को बाधित किया, जिससे क्रिसमस की शुरुआत हुई। इसी दिन दिल्ली में शेख मुख्तार का जन्म हुआ। रेलवे पुलिस इंस्पेक्टर की नौकरी के बाद यह बाॅलीवुड फिल्मों के जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता हुए।

1922 विश्व प्रसिद्ध, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल आवा गार्डनर का ग्रेबटाउन, उत्तरी कैरोलीना, अमेरिका में जन्म हुआ।

1924 भारतीय सिनेमा के सबसे प्रमुख गायक और भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय गायक मोहम्मद रफी का जन्म 24 दिसंबर 1924 को पंजाब के गांव कोटला सुल्तान सिंह, अमृतसर में हुआ। रफी बहुमुखी गायन प्रतिभा के धनी थे। मोहम्मद रफी ने देशभक्ति गीतों से लेकर बेहद रोमांटिक, दर्द भरे गीत, और कव्वालियों से लेकर गजल और भजनों से लेकर भारतीय शास्त्रीय गीतों तक हर तरह के गाने गाए। रफी को चार बार फिल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड और एक बार राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार मिला। 1976 में उन्हें पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया। 2001 में स्टारडस्ट मैग्जीन ने रफी को सहस्त्राब्दी का सर्वश्रेष्ठ सिंगर चुना। 2013 में रफी को सीएएन-आईबीएन के पोल में हिंदी सिनेमा की सर्वश्रेष्ठ आवाज चुना गया। मोहम्मद रफी ने न केवल हिंदी, उर्दू और पंजाबी में गाने गाए, बल्कि उन्होंने कई भारतीय भाषाओं और बोलियों में भी गीत गाए, जिनमें-कोंकणी, असमिया, भोजपुरी, उड़िया, बंगाली, मराठी, सिंधी, कन्नड़, गुजराती, तमिल, तेलुगु, मगही, मैथिली शामिल हैं। अपने गायन कैरियर में रफी ने एक हजार से ज्यादा हिंदी गाने गाए। मोहम्मद रफी का 55 वर्ष की उम्र में बंबई में 31 जुलाई 1980 को निधन हो गया था। रफी के कद्रदान आज भी उन्हें भारत रत्न सम्मान दिए जाने की मांग करते हैं। 1924 में इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एवं महादेव देसाई के पुत्र नारायण भाई देसाई का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1924 में क्रोयडोन लंदन की एयर फील्ड में हुई विमान दुर्घटना में 8 लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। अल्बानिया इसी दिन गणतांत्रिक देश बना।

1930 प्रतिष्ठित हिंदी पत्रकार, शिक्षिका एवं साहित्यकार उषा प्रियंवदा का कानपुर में जन्म हुआ।

1932 दक्षिण भारत के ऊटी में इंग्लैंड के मशहूर क्रिकेटर माइकल काॅलिन काउड्रे का जन्म हुआ।

1936 पहली बार जॉन लॉरेन्स ने रेडियोएक्टिव आईसोटोप दवाई का प्रयोग मरीज पर किया।

1944 रोमन कैथोलिक चर्च के प्रसिद्ध भारतीय कार्डिनल ओस्वाल्ड ग्रेसियस का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1956 बंबई के चेंबूर में जाने-माने भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता एवं निर्माता अनिल कपूर का जन्म हुआ। फिल्मी परिवार में जन्मे अनिल कपूर ने वो सात दिन, मशाल, मेरी जंग, बेटा, कर्मा, 1942 ए लव स्टोरी जैसी फिल्में की हैं। अनिल अभी भी फिल्मों में सक्रिय हैं। उनकी बेटी सोनम कपूर भी एक्ट्रेस हैं।

1957 अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई का जन्म हुआ।

1962 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री प्रीति सप्रू का जन्म हुआ। 13 साल की उम्र में एक्टिंग शुरु करने वाली प्रीति ने लावारिस, नजराना, अवतार, निम्मो, आज का अर्जुन जैसी फिल्मों में काम किया है।

1967 चीन ने लोप नोर क्षेत्र में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1967 बिहार के प्रमुख राजनेता पप्पू यादव का जन्म हुआ। उनका वास्तविक नाम राजेश रंजन है।

1968 प्रथम बार मनुष्य ने अपोलो-8 के जरिए चांद की कक्षा में प्रवेश किया। चंद्रमा की कक्षा में पहुंचने वाला पहला मानवयुक्त नासा का अपोलो-8 मिशन 21 दिसंबर 1968 को शुरू हुआ था और 27 दिसंबर को पूरा हुआ था। अपोलो-8 के क्रू में फ्रैंक बोरमैन, जिम लॉवेल और बिल एंडर्स शामिल थे। अपोलो-8 ने क्रिसमस की संध्या पर यानी 24 दिसंबर को चंद्रमा के ऑर्बिट में प्रवेश के साथ ही नया इतिहास रच दिया। इसके साथ ही इंसान ने पहली बार चंद्रमा की कक्षा में प्रवेश कर लिया। इस मिशन ने चांद की कक्षा से सीधा प्रसारण किया। इन अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों ने अपने अंतरिक्ष यान के अंदर से चांद और पृथ्वी की तस्वीरें भेजीं। विलियम एंडर्स की खींची वास्तविक तस्वीरों के कारण ये मिशन दुनियाभर में चर्चित हुआ। इसके एक साल बाद अपोलो सीरीज के ही एक मिशन, अपोलो-11 के जरिए इंसान पहली बार चांद पर उतरा। 20 जुलाई 1969 को नील आर्मस्ट्रॉन्ग चांद पर कदम रखने वाले पहले इंसान बने।

1973 अमेरिका की यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स कांग्रेस ने वाशिंगटन, डीसी के गृह शासन को मंजूरी दे दी, जिससे निवासियों को अपने मेयर और नगर परिषद का चुनाव करने की व्यवस्था मिली।

1973 तमिलनाडु के वेल्लोर में ई.वी. रामास्वामी नायकर का निधन हुआ। इरोड वेंकटप्पा रामासामी, पेरियार या थंथई पेरियार के नाम से भी जाने जाते हैं। भारतीय दलित, स्त्री और सामाजिक अधिकार कार्यकर्ता तथा राजनीतिज्ञ थे, जिन्होंने आत्म-सम्मान आंदोलन और द्रविड़ कड़गम की शुरुआत की थी। द्रविड़ आंदोलन के जनक थे।

1979 सोवियत संघ ने अफगानिस्तान में प्रवेश किया।

1981 उड़ीसा के जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता, निर्माता और सत्तारूढ़ बीजू जनता दल के राज्य सभा सदस्य अभिनव मोहंती का जन्म कटक में हुआ।

1986 वहाई संप्रदाय के दिल्ली स्थित प्रसिद्ध लोटस मंदिर को श्रद्धालुओं और पर्यटकों के लिए खोला गया था।

1986 संसद द्वारा उपभोक्ता संरक्षण अधिनियम पारित किया गया। इसलिए भारत में 24 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रिय उपभोक्ता दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

1987 तमिल सिनेमा पर तीन दशक तक राज करने वाले और भारत रत्न सम्मान प्राप्त मरुथुर गोपालन रामचंद्रन यानी एमजी रामचंद्रन का निधन हुआ। एमजीआर नाम से चिर-परिचित रामचंद्रन ने 100 से अधिक फिल्मों में काम किया। संयोग से इनमें से 28 फिल्मों में जयललिता उनकी हिरोइन थीं, जो आगे चलकर न केवल फिल्मी बल्कि राजनीतिक करियर में भी उनकी सबसे करीबी सहयोगी बनीं। फिल्मों से राजनीति में आने पर बाद एमजीआर कांग्रेस से जुड़ गए। 1953 तक कांग्रेस के साथ रहे। बाद में करुणानिधि के कहने पर उन्होंने उनकी पार्टी डीएमके ज्वाइन कर ली। पर करुणानिधि से मनमुटाव के चलते उन्होंने ऑल इंडिया अन्ना द्रविड़ मुन्नेत्र कड़गम एआईएडीएमके नाम से अपनी एक अलग पार्टी बनाई। एआईएडीएमके ने विधानसभा चुनावों में जीत दर्ज की और एमजीआर 30 जुलाई 1977 को तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री बने। एमजीआर मुख्यमंत्री बनने वाले देश के पहले ऐक्टर थे। 24 दिसंबर 1987 को अपने निधन तक वो इस पद पर रहे। 1988 में एमजीआर को मरणोपरांत भारत रत्न से सम्मानित किया गया।

1988 कोलकाता नाइट राइडर के प्रसिद्ध क्रिकेटर पीयूष चावला का अलीगढ़ यूपी में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन प्रतिष्ठित, प्रसिद्ध हिंदी मनोवैज्ञानिक कथाकार और उपन्यासकार जैनेंद्र कुमार का निधन हुआ।

1989 जाने माने भारतीय स्टेंडअप काॅमेडियन और यूट्यूबर कानन गिल का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ। इसी दिन भारत का पहला अम्यूजमेंट पार्क एसेल वर्ल्ड महाराष्ट्र की राजधानी बंबई में खोला गया।

1991 हिंदी, तमिल, तेलुगू और कन्नड़ आदि भाषाओं की जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अक्षरा गौड़ा का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1996 ताजिकिस्तान में गृहयुद्ध को समाप्त करने के लिए समझौता सम्पन्न हुआ।

1997 भारतीय ट्रैक और फील्ड एथलीट प्रतिस्पर्धा में भाला फेंकने वाले खिलाड़ी नीरज चोपड़ा का जन्म हुआ।

1998 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल ईशा सिंह का जन्म भोपाल में हुआ।

1999 इंडियन एयरलाइंस की उड़ान 814 त्रिभुवन हवाई अड्डा काठमांडू, नेपाल से दिल्ली आते वक्त भारतीय हवाई क्षेत्र में अपहरण कर लिया गया। विमान तालिबान शासित अफगानिस्तान के कंधार में उतारा गया। यह प्रकरण 31 दिसंबर को खत्म हुआ जब अल कायदा की मांग पर नई दिल्ली ने कुछ आतंवादियों को बंधक विमान के बदले रिहा किया। विमान में 190 यात्री और चालक दल के लोग थे। इस बीच एक यात्री की मौत हो गई थी।

2000 भारत के विश्व चर्चित शतरंज खिलाड़ी विश्वनाथन आनंद विश्व चैंपियन बने।

2002 दिल्ली मेट्रो रेल सेवा का शुभारंभ शहादरा स्थित तीस हजारी लाइन से हुआ।

2003 अमेरिकी विदेश विभाग ने 30 जून, 2004 को इराक में सत्ता सौंपने की तैयारी शुरू की।

2005 यूरोपीय संघ ने खालिस्तान जिंदाबाद फोर्स नामक संगठन को आतंकी सूची में शामिल किया। चाड ने 18 दिसंबर को एड्रे पर हुए हमले के बाद सूडान के खिलाफ युद्ध शुरु किया जिसमें लगभग 100 लोग मरे।

2006 शिखर बैठक में फिलिस्तीन को इस्रायल कई सुविधाएँ देने के लिए तैयार हुआ।

2007 मंगल ग्रह के रहस्यों की खोज करने के लिए यूरोपीय अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी यान मार्स ने मंगल ग्रह की कक्षा में अपने चार हजार चक्कर पूरे किये।

2008 युगांडा के विद्रोही समूह लॉर्ड्स रेजिस्टेंस आर्मी ने हौट-उले जिला डेमोक्रेटिक रिपब्लिक द कांगो के कई गांवों पर हमले शुरू कर दिए, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप कम से कम 400 मौतें और तमाम तरह के अत्याचार हुए।

2011 क्यूबा सरकार ने 2900 कैदियों को रिहा करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन 2011 में दुनिया के सबसे उम्रदराज कलाकार, डच अभिनेता और गायक जोहानस हेस्टर की 108 वर्ष की आयु में देहावसान हुआ।

2012 चीन के जियांगसी में एक वैन पलटने से केजी स्कूल के 11 बच्चों की मौत हुई।

2013 पोप फ्रांसिस के क्रिसमस मास को मनाने से पहले पोप बेनेडिक्ट सोलहवें सेवानिवृत्ति हुए।

2014 प्रमुख भाजपा नेता और प्रधानमंत्री हुए अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी और हिंदूवादी शिक्षा प्रसारक मदन मोहन मालवीय को भारत रत्न देने की घोषणा की गई।

2018 हेलीकॉप्टर दुर्घटना में मेक्सिको के प्यूब्ला की पहली महिला गवर्नर मार्था एरिका अलोंसो और उनके पूर्व गवर्नर पति राफेल मोरेनो वैले रोसास की मौत हुई।

2021 बर्मी सेना ने मो सो नरसंहार में 44 से अधिक सामान्य नागरिक डाले।

2022 करनाल में संयुक्त किसान मोर्चा की राष्ट्रीय बैठक के दौरान 26 जनवरी को जींद में किसान महापंचायत करने और देश भर में ट्रैक्टर मार्च निकालने का निर्णय लिया गया। किसान नेताओं ने बताया कि इस महापंचायत के रूप में उत्तर भारत की बड़ी रैली की जायेगी, जिसमें हरियाणा, पंजाब, उत्तरप्रदेश, उत्तराखंड, हिमाचल प्रदेश, राजस्थान के किसान भाग लेंगे। इसके बाद मार्च माह में दिल्ली में भी महापंचायत की जायेगी। संयुक्त किसान मोर्चा नेता राकेश टिकैत ने बताया कि 26 जनवरी को गणतंत्र दिवस समारोह सुबह 10 बजे तक होता है, उसके बाद ट्रैक्टर दिवस मनाया जाएगा। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार की गलत नीतियों के कारण किसान बर्बाद हो चुका है। किसान नेताओं ने सरकार पर गुमराह करने का आरोप लगाते हुए कहा कि किसानों पर आंदोलन के दौरान दर्ज किए गये मुकदमे वापस नहीं लिए गये हैं। जिन लोगों ने किसानों का सहयोग किया था, सरकार उनको परेशान कर रही है। किसान नेता जोगिंदर सिंह उगराहां ने कहा कि एमएसपी पर सरकार कानून नहीं ला रही है, इसके लिए गठित कमेटी में सरकार के ही समर्थकों को शामिल किया गया है।

Gongsun Shu (died on December 24, 36 AD) was the founder and sole emperor of the state of Chengjia, which controlled the Sichuan Basin of China from 25 to 36 AD. Was a successful official of the Western Han and short-lived Xin dynasties. When the Xin regime fell in 23 amid rebellions aimed at restoring the Han dynasty, Gongsun was the administrator of Daojiang Commandery. Through a series of political and military maneuvers, Gongsun gained control of Yi Province and declared himself King of Shu in 24. The following year Gongsun assumed the imperial title and founded the Cheng dynasty. Under his administration the Sichuan region enjoyed increased peace and economic prosperity. The city of Chengdu developed into an imperial capital. Gongsun adopted a defensive military posture, limiting his influence to Sichuan while Liu Xiu's revived Eastern Han regime secured the North China Plain. Gongsun was mortally wounded in battle against an Eastern Han invasion force in 36, and the Chengjia state surrendered the next day.
