705 लुओयांग, तांग चीन में महारानी वू जेटियन का निधन हुआ। 665 से 690 तक वह पहले तांग राजवंश (सम्राट गाओजोंग की पत्नी के रूप में) की महारानी और, उनकी मृत्यु के बाद साम्राज्ञी दहेज (अपने बेटों सम्राट झोंगजोंग और रुइजोंग के माध्यम सें)। उन्होंने चीन के वू झोउ राजवंश की महिला सम्राट के रूप में खुद को स्थापित कर शासन किया। वह चीन के इतिहास में एकमात्र महिला संप्रभु थीं जिन्हें व्यापक रूप से वैध माना जाता था। उनके 40 साल के शासनकाल में चीन के साम्राज्य का बड़ा विस्तार हुआ। दुनिया की प्रमुख शक्तियों में से एक बना। संस्कृति, अर्थव्यवस्था, अदालतों में सुधार हुआ। बाद में तख्तापलट विरोधियों ने उन्हें सत्ता से हटा दिया जिसके कुछ महीने बाद उनकी मृत्यु हो गई।

714 मेरोविंगियन महल के मेयर हेर्स्टल के पेपिन की ज्यूपिल (वर्तमान बेल्जियम) में मृत्यु होने के बाद उनकी विधवा पत्नी पेल्ट्रूड ने पेपिन का उत्तराधिकारी उनके नवजात पोते थ्यूडोआल्ड को बनाया और फ्रैन्किश साम्राज्य वास्तविक शक्तियों पर खुद अधिकार कर लिया। पेपिन द्वितीय (हेर्स्टल के पेपिन) फ्रैंकिश राजनेता और सैन्य जनरल थे, जिन्होंने 680 से अपनी मृत्यु तक फ्रांसिया पर महल के मेयर के रूप में शासन किया था। उन्होंने सभी फ्रैंकिश क्षेत्रों पर विजय प्राप्त करने के बाद फ्रैंक्स के ड्यूक और प्रिंस की उपाधि हासिल की।

755 यानजिंग में चांसलर यांग गुओझोंग के खिलाफ एक लुशान योद्धा ने विद्रोह किया, जिससे चीन के तांग राजवंश के खिलाफ लुशान विद्रोह की शुरुआत हुई।

1431 सौ साल का युद्ध में विजयोपरांत इंग्लैंड के हेनरी छठे को पेरिस के नोट्रे डेम में फ्रांस के राजा का ताज पहनाया गया।

1485 आर्चीपिस्कोपल पैलेस, अल्काला डे हेनारेस, कैस्टिले, स्पेन में कैथरीन ऑफ एरागॉन (कैथरीन अथवा कैटालिना) का जन्म हुआ। यह हेनरी अष्टम की पहली पत्नी के रूप में इंग्लैंड की रानी बनीं।

1497 वास्को डी गामा ने अफ्रीका के दक्षिणी सिरे पर ग्रेट फिश नदी के तट पर डेरा डाला। 

1515 विश्व प्रसिद्ध पुर्तगाली गवर्नर अल्फांसो डे अल्बुक्रेक का निधन हुआ।

1598 नोरयांग में सात वर्षीय युद्ध की अंतिम लड़ाई चीन और कोरियाई सहयोगी सेनाओं और जापानी नौसेनाओं के बीच लड़ी गई, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप मित्र देशों की निर्णायक जीत हुई।

1631 इटली के माउंट विसुवियस में ज्वालामुखी विस्फोट से छह गांव तबाह हुए और चार हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गये।

1653 ओलिवर क्रॉमवेल इंग्लैंड के राष्ट्रमंडल के लॉर्ड प्रोटेक्टर बने।

1689 इंग्लैंड की संसद ने बिल ऑफ राइट्स को अपनाया, यह घोषणा करते हुए कि अंग्रेजों के पास कुछ सकारात्मक नागरिक और राजनीतिक अधिकार हैं। उन्होंने जनता को कई अधिकार दिए।

1707 जापान के माउंट फुजी पर्वत में अंतिम बार ज्वालामुखी विस्फोट हुआ।

1733 अमेरिका में ब्रिटिश सरकार के विरुद्ध संग्राम शुरू हुआ, जिसे बोस्टन टी-पार्टी कहा जाता है। अमेरिका पर ब्रिटेन काबिज था और अमेरिकियों ने इससे आजादी के लिए आंदोलन शुरु किया।

1761 सात साल के युद्ध में रूसी बलों ने चार महीने की घेराबंदी के बाद, बाल्टिक तट पर प्रसिया के आखिरी बंदरगाह कोलबर्ग पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1776 सैमित्ज, सिलेसिया, पवित्र रोमन साम्राज्य में जोहान विल्हेम रिटर का जन्म हुआ। उन्होंने विज्ञान, रसायन विज्ञान, बिजली और अन्य क्षेत्रों पर कई प्रयोगात्मक शोध किए।

1824 उत्तरी नीदरलैंड में प्रसिद्ध ग्रेट नॉर्थ हाॅलैंड नहर यानी कैनाल डे ला होल्लांदे जहाजों और अन्य प्रयोजनों हेतु खोली गई।

1826 बेंजामिन डब्ल्यू एडवर्ड्स ने मैक्सिकन नियंत्रित नॉकोगदोचेस, टेक्सास की यात्रा की और खुद को फ्रेडोनिया गणराज्य का शासक घोषित किया।

1840 मौत के 19 साल बाद फ्रांस के सम्राट नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट का अंतिम संस्कार किया गया।

1854 अमेरिका के फिलाडेल्फिया में पहली बार सड़क की सफाई करने के लिए मशीन का इस्तेमाल किया गया।

1860 टीवी का आविष्कार करने वाले वैज्ञानिकों में से एक पॉवेल नेपको का जन्म हुआ।

1889 ब्रिटिश संसद की अधिकार घोषणा को राजा विलियम तथा रानी मेरी ने स्वीकार कर शासन में जनता के अधिकार को मान्यता दी।

1920 चीन के कांसू प्रांत में आए भूकंप के कारण 1 लाख से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत हुई और व्यापक क्षेत्र में भारी विनाश हुआ।

1924 निसीम इजेकिल नामक यहूदी मूल के एक अंग्रेजी भाषा के भारतीय लेखक का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इनके द्वारा रचित एक कविता संग्रह लैटर डे साम्स के लिये उन्हें 1983 में अंग्रेजी भाषा के साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1927 आस्ट्रेलिया के महान् बल्लेबाज सर डान ब्रैडमैन ने न्यूसाउथ वेल्स और दक्षिण ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच मैच से अपने प्रथम श्रेणी क्रिकेट की शुरुआत की।

1929 कलकत्ता विद्युत आपूर्ति निगम ने हुगली नदी के भीतर नहर की खुदाई आरंभ की।

1930 अमेरिका के उत्तरी कैरोलिना में 11 बैंक बंद किये गए। यह महामंदी के कारण करना पड़ा। इसी दिन आधुनिक बैंक डकैती के पिता कहे जाने वाले हरमन लेम को क्लिंटन, इंडियाना, अमेरिका में एक डकैती के प्रयास के दौरान गोली मार दी गई।

1936 शॉर्टर, अलबामा, अमेरिका में मॉरिस सेलिगमैन डीज जूनियर का जन्म हुआ। मॉरिस प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी वकील और मोंटगोमरी, अलबामा में दक्षिणी गरीबी कानून केंद्र (एसपीएलसी) के सह-संस्थापक और पूर्व मुख्य परीक्षण वकील हुए।

1937 भारत के विख्यात मुक्केबाज हवा सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1938 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी के जाने माने राजनेता और दिल्ली के उप राज्यपाल रहे तेजेंदर खन्ना का पटना में जन्म हुआ।

1938 जर्मन रसायनशास्त्री ओटो हान ने यूरेनियम के नाभिकीय विखंडन की खोज की।

1945 जापान के दो बार प्रधानमंत्री रहे फूमिमारो कनोए ने युद्ध अपराधों का सामना करने की बजाए आत्महत्या कर ली।

1949 मलयालम, तमिल एवं तेलुगू सिनेमा के प्रमुख प्रोडक्शन डिजायनर, फिल्म कला निर्देशक थोता थरानी का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1951 हैदराबाद में सालार जंग संग्रहालय की स्थापना की गई।

1955 इंग्लैंड के व्यस्ततम हीथ्रो हवाई अड्डे का शुभारंभ हुआ।

1956 पेरिस, फ्रांस में मार्टीन-एलिजाबेथ मर्सिएर डेसक्लौक्स का जन्म हुआ। वे लोकप्रिय फ्रांसीसी संगीतज्ञ, गायिका, गीतकार, अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, लेखिका और चित्रकार बनीं।

1958 कोलंबिया की राजधानी बोगोटा में एक गोदाम में लगी भीषण आग में 82 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1959 भारत के प्रधानमंत्री हुए हरदनहल्ली डोड्डेगौड़ा देवगौड़ा के बेटे कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री रहे एच. डी. कुमारस्वामी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन पश्चिमी पाकिस्तान के लोवाराय दर्रे में भारी बर्फबारी से 48 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1960 अमेरिका के न्यूयार्क शहर में हुए दो विमानों की टक्कर के कारण 136 लोग मारे गए।

1965 नीस, आल्प्स-मैरीटाइम्स, फ्रांस में विलियम समरसेट मौघम का निधन हुआ जो एक प्रसिद्ध अंग्रेजी लेखक थे। अपने नाटकों, उपन्यासों और लघु कथाओं के लिए लोकप्रिय हुए। पेरिस में जन्मे, जहां उन्होंने अपने पहले दस साल बिताए, मौघम की स्कूली शिक्षा इंग्लैंड में हुई और बाद में वे एक जर्मन विश्वविद्यालय में गए। बाद में मौघम लंदन में एक मेडिकल छात्र बन गए और 1897 में एक चिकित्सक के रूप में योग्यता प्राप्त की। उन्होंने कभी चिकित्सा का अभ्यास नहीं किया बल्कि पूर्णकालिक लेखक बन गए। उनके पहले उपन्यास, लिजा ऑफ लैम्बेथ (1897), जिसमें झुग्गियों के जीवन का वर्णन है, ने बहुसंख्य पाठकों, लेखकों, समीक्षकों इत्यादि का ध्यान आकर्षित किया। 1908 तक लंदन के वेस्ट एंड में उनके चार नाटक एक साथ चल रहे थे। उन्होंने अपना 32वां और आखिरी नाटक 1933 में लिखा, जिसके बाद उन्होंने थिएटर छोड़ दिया और उपन्यासों और लघु कथाओं पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया।

1967 बाॅलीवुड सिनेमा में प्रमुख स्वर कलाकार, फिल्मों की डबिंग के विशेषज्ञ मनोज पांडेय का जन्म हुआ।

1969 ब्रिटेन की संसद ने मृत्युदंड पूरी तरह खत्म करने के पक्ष में मतदान किया।

1970 नांदेड़ महाराष्ट्र से लोकसभा सदस्य शिव सेना नेता हेमंत श्रीराम पाटिल का जन्म हुआ।

1971 भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच संघर्ष विराम पर सहमति के बाद बंगलादेश पाकिस्तान से पृथक् होकर स्वतंत्र राष्ट्र बना। भारत में इस दिन इस उपलक्ष्य में विजय दिवस मनाया जाता है। इसी दिन बहरीन से यूनाइटेड किंगडम कब्जा छोड़ा, जिससे 1971 में बहरीन एक स्वतंत्र अमीरात बना। इस दिन बहरीन राष्ट्रीय दिवस मनाता है।

1977 केरल कांग्रेस जेकब के नेता, विधान सभा सदस्य अनूप जेकब का जन्म कोट्टायम में हुआ।

1980 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल स्मिता सिंह का लखनऊ में जन्म हुआ।

1981 पेंसिल्वेनिया, में क्रिस्टन रिटर का जन्म हुआ। क्रिस्टन खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुप्रतिभावान अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, संगीतज्ञ एवं माॅडल हैं। क्रिस्टन एएमसी ड्रामा सीरीज ब्रेकिंग बैड (2009-2010) में जेन मार्गोलिस के रूप में अभिनय करके प्रमुखता से उभरीं। यह भूमिका उन्होंने स्पिनऑफ फिल्म एल कैमिनो (2019) में दोहराई। उन्हें एबीसी सिटकॉम डोंट ट्रस्ट द बी अपार्टमेंट 23 (2012-2013) में अपनी मुख्य भूमिकाओं और नेटफ्लिक्स सुपरहीरो श्रृंखला जेसिका जोन्स (2015-2019) और नेटफ्लिक्स लघु श्रृंखला द डिफेंडर्स में शीर्षक चरित्र के लिए और अधिक पहचान मिली।

1982 कीव, यूक्रेन अन्ना वलोडिमिरिव्ना सेदोकोवा का जन्म हुआ। खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय यूक्रेनी गायिका, अभिनेत्री, माॅडल और टेलीविजन प्रस्तोता बनीं। सेदोकोवा 2002 में पॉप गर्ल ग्रुप नु विरगोस के सदस्य के रूप में प्रमुखता से उभरीं, जिसे सीआईएस देशों में वीआईए ग्रे के नाम से जाना जाता है और इस सफलता से सेदोकोवा को अन्या उपनाम मिला।

1983 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल हर्षवर्धन राणे का जन्म राजामहेंद्रावरम में हुआ।

1985 तमिलनाडु के कलपक्कम में पहले फास्ट ब्रीडर टेस्ट रिएक्टर एफबीटीआर की स्थापना हुई।

1986 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड विविध भारतीय भाषाओं की फिल्मों की गायिका और सूफी गायिका हर्षदीप कौर का दिल्ली में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल विनय राणा या विन राना का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1990 जानी मानी खूबसूरत एवं बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अंजलि अबरोल का जन्म जम्मू में हुआ।

1993 भारत की सबसे छोटे कद की अभिनेत्री ज्योति आम्गे का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ। लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकार्डस और गिनीज बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकार्ड के अनुसार विश्व की सबसे छोटे कद की महिला हैं। 

1993 नयी दिल्ली में सभी के लिए शिक्षा सम्मेलन शुरु हुआ।

1994 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी तमिल, तेलुगू और हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल और मार्शल आर्टिस्ट रितिका सिंह का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1995 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में 16 दिसंबर को एक राष्ट्रीय पर्व सुलह का दिन मनाने की शुरुआत हुई। दक्षिण अफ्रीका में सार्वजनिक अवकाश है। देश के लिए सुलह और राष्ट्रीय एकता को बढ़ावा देने के इरादे से रंगभेद की समाप्ति के बाद 1995 में यह पर्व और छुट्टी लागू हुई। यह तिथि इसलिए चुनी गई क्योंकि यह अफ्रीकी और अश्वेत अफ्रीकी संस्कृतियों दोनों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण थी।

1999 गोलन पहाड़ी के मुद्दे पर सीरिया-इस्रायल वार्ता विफल।

2002 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय महिला कव्वाल शकीला बानो का निधन हुआ।

2006 नेपाल में अंतरिम संविधान को अंतिम रूप दिया गया और नेपाल नरेश ज्ञानेंद्र को देश के प्रमुख के पद से हटा दिया गया।

2008 केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालयों के शिक्षकों के वेतन पुनरीक्षण को गठित चड्ढा समिति की संस्तुतियों को केन्द्र सरकार ने मंजूर किया।

2009 जेम्स कैमरन ने विज्ञान पर आधारित फिल्म अवतार का निर्माण किया। दुनियाभर में इस फिल्म ने 2.7 अरब डॉलर की कमाई की।

2010 तिब्बत की गैलोंगला सुरंग, जो समुद्र की सतह से 3,750 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर बनी है, पूरी हुई जो मेडोग काउंटी को बाहरी दुनिया से जोड़ती है।

2012 दिल्ली में 16 दिसंबर 2012 की रात एक चलती बस में 23 वर्षीय एक छात्रा के साथ सामूहिक बलात्कार किया गया और इस घटना से गुस्साए लोग सड़कों पर उतर आए। इसे हम बाद में निर्भया बलात्कार कांड के नाम से जानते हैं। 16 दिसंबर, 2012 की रात 6 लोगों ने एक पैरामेडिकल छात्रा से चलती बस में गैंगरेप किया था। इस घटना में हुई निर्दयता की वजह से 29 दिसंबर को सिंगापुर में इलाज के दौरान निर्भया की मौत हो गई थी। इस दुखद घटना के 9 महीने बाद सितंबर 2013 में निचली अदालत ने 5 दोषियों राम सिंह, पवन, अक्षय, विनय और मुकेश को फांसी की सजा सुनाई थी। ट्रायल के दौरान मुख्य आरोपी राम सिंह ने तिहाड़ जेल में फांसी लगाकर आत्महत्या कर ली थी। एक अन्य आरोपी नाबालिग होने की वजह से 3 साल में सुधार गृह से छूट गया। बाकी बचे 4 आरोपी पवन, अक्षय, विनय और मुकेश को 20 मार्च 2020 को दिल्ली की तिहाड़ जेल में फांसी दी गई।

2013 फिलीपींस की राजधानी मनीला में एक बस के पलटने से 18 लोगों की मौैत हो गयी तथा 20 अन्य घायल हो गये। इसी दिन 2013 में प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी गायक-गीतकार और गिटारवादक रे प्राइस तथा लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी पत्रकार, लेखिका और सामाजिक कार्यकत्री मार्टा रसेल का निधन हुआ।

2014 विख्यात ब्रिटिश अंग्रेजी जीवाश्म विज्ञानी, जीवविज्ञानी और अकादमिक मार्टिन ब्रैसियर एवं प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी गणितज्ञ और अकादमिक टिम कोचरन का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन 2014 में पाकिस्तान में पेशावर के एक स्कूल में आतंकी संगठन तहरीक ए तालिबान के हमले में 145 लोगों की मौत हुई जिनमें ज्यादातर स्कूली बच्चे थे।

2015 प्रसिद्ध रोडेशियन-अंग्रेजी लेखक और कवि पीटर डिकिंसन, प्रसिद्ध मैक्सिकन पहलवान लिजमार्क और प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी चित्रकार और मूर्तिकार जॉर्ज अर्ल ऑर्टमैन का निधन हुआ।

2017 लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, माॅडल एवं गायिका कीली स्मिथ का निधन हुआ।

2022 मलेशिया के सेलांगोर में बटांग काली शहर के पास जैविक फार्म शिविर में भूस्खलन हुआ, जिसमें 92 लोग फंस गए जिनमें से 31 की मौत हो गई।

705 Empress Wu Zetian dies in Luoyang, Tang China. From 665 to 690 she was first empress of the Tang dynasty (as the wife of Emperor Gaozong) and, after his death, empress dowager (through her sons Emperors Zhongzong and Ruizong). She established herself as female emperor of the Wu-Zhou dynasty of China and ruled. She was the only female sovereign in Chinese history who was widely considered legitimate. During his 40-year reign, the Chinese empire expanded significantly. Became one of the major powers of the world. Culture, economy, courts improved. He was later removed from power by coup opponents and died a few months later.

714 After the death of Pepin of Herstal, mayor of the Merovingian palace, in Jupil (present-day Belgium), his widowed wife Plectrude succeeded his infant grandson Theudoald, and the Frankish Empire took over real power. Pepin II (Pepin of Herstal) was a Frankish statesman and military general who ruled Francia as mayor of the palace from 680 until his death. He assumed the titles Duke and Prince of the Franks after conquering all the Frankish territories.

755 A Lushan warrior rebelled against the chancellor Yang Guozhong in Yanjing, beginning the Lushan Rebellion against the Tang dynasty of China.

1431 Henry VI of England is crowned King of France at Notre Dame in Paris following his victory in the Hundred Years' War.

1485 Catherine of Aragon (Catherine or Catalina) is born in the Archiepiscopal Palace, Alcalá de Henares, Castile, Spain. She became Queen of England as the first wife of Henry VIII.

1497 Vasco da Gama camped on the banks of the Great Fish River at the southern tip of Africa.

1515 World famous Portuguese governor Alfonso de Albuquerque passed away.

2012 In Delhi, on the night of 16 December 2012, a 23-year-old student was gang-raped in a moving bus and angry people came out on the streets due to this incident. We later came to know this as the Nirbhaya rape case. On the night of December 16, 2012, six people gang-raped a paramedical student in a moving bus. Due to the cruelty in this incident, Nirbhaya died during treatment in Singapore on 29 December. Nine months after this tragic incident, in September 2013, the lower court had awarded death sentence to 5 convicts Ram Singh, Pawan, Akshay, Vinay and Mukesh. During the trial, the main accused Ram Singh committed suicide by hanging himself in Tihar Jail. Another accused was released from the reform home after 3 years because he was a minor. The remaining 4 accused Pawan, Akshay, Vinay and Mukesh were hanged in Tihar Jail, Delhi on 20 March 2020.
