726 डॉस पिलास, ग्वाटेमाला में इत्जमनाज काविल का निधन हुआ। काविल डॉस पिलास, माया सभ्यता का राजा था और माया सभ्यता तीसरा ज्ञात शासक था। उसे रूलर 2 और शील्ड गॉड के भी कहा जाता है। 

794 सम्राट कानमू ने जापान की राजधानी को हेयान-क्यो (अब क्योटो) में स्थानांतरित कर दिया।

906 अहमद इब्न कायघलाघ ने बीजेंटाइन साम्राज्य के खिलाफ एक छापामार युद्ध का नेतृत्व किया, जिसमें 4,000-5,000 लोगों को बंदी बनाया गया।

955 कियान वेइजुन (शिष्टाचार नाम युचुआन) कियान चू (राजा झोंग्यी) के उत्तराधिकारी का जन्म हुआ। यह बाद में वुय्यू के पांचवें और अंतिम राजा बने। युवावस्था में राज-काज संभाला और 35-36 की आयु में इनकी मौत हो गई।

1383 राजा फर्नांडो की मृत्यु के साथ पुर्तगाली हाउस ऑफ बरगंडी की पुरुष वंशावली की कड़ी खत्म हो गई। केवल उनकी बेटी बीट्राइस बची। प्रतिद्वंद्वी दावेदारों ने गृहयुद्ध और अव्यवस्था का दौर शुरू कर दिया।

1494 विश्व विख्यात और विश्व कुख्यात इतालवी खोजी, यात्री और नाविक क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस ने अपनी दूसरी खोजी समुद्री यात्रा आंरभ की। इस यात्रा में कोलंबस ने एंटील द्वीप समूह की खोज की।

1511 प्रसिद्ध जर्मन खगोलशास्त्री और गणितज्ञ इरास्मस रेनहोल्ड का जन्म हुआ।

1559 जैक्स सिरमंड, फ्रांसीसी विद्वान का जन्म हुआ।

1587 विख्यात जर्मन गणितज्ञ और दार्शनिक जोआचिम जंगियस का जन्म हुआ।

1633 चीन के मिंग राजवंश के नौसैनिकों ने दो सौ साल से चले आ रहे प्रथम अफीम युद्ध के दौरान ताइवान स्ट्रेट में एक डच ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के नौसैनिक बेड़े को हराया।

1680 राजस्थान में मेवाड़ के राणा राज सिंह की अचानक मृत्यु हुई। इसी वर्ष जून के महीने में उन्होंने मुगलों की घुसपैठ का बहुत बहादुरी से सामना किया था।

1721 पीटर द ग्रेट या पीटर महान को पूरे रूसी साम्राज्य का ‘जार’ यानी सम्राट बनाया गया।

1796 महाराष्ट्र के एक राजा पेशवा माधव राव द्वितीय ने आत्महत्या की।

1797 फ्रांसीसी सेना के एक कार्मिक आंद्रे-जैक्स गार्नेरिन ने सेना के लिए गुब्बारों के इस्तेमाल की हिमायत करते हुए एक विशाल गुब्बारा बनाया और करीब 3200 फुट की ऊंचाई से हवा में छलांग लगाकर पैराशूटिंग का प्रदर्शन किया।

1836 टेक्सास गणराज्य के पहले राष्ट्रपति सेन हाउटन बने। उस समय तक संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका नहीं बना था। कई प्रांत अलग-अलग थे और उनकी स्वतंत्र सत्ता थी।

1875 अर्जेंटीना में पहले टेलीग्राफिक कनेक्शन की शुरुवात हुई।

1879 विख्यात अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक, आविष्कारक और खोजकर्ता थॉमस अल्वा एडीसन ने एक उच्च प्रतिरोधक कार्बन फिलामेंट का पहला सफल प्रयोग किया। इसी दिन 1879 में विश्व का पहला कार डीलर शोरूम लंदन में खुला।

1879 ब्रिटिश शासन में पहला राजद्रोह का मुकदमा बासुदेव बलवंत फड़के के खिलाफ हुआ। वे भारत की स्वतंत्रता के लिए सशस्त्र संघर्ष के पितामह या जनक माने जाते हैं।

1881 अमेरिका में बॉस्टन सिंफनी आर्केस्ट्रा ने पहला संगीत समारोह किया।

1883 अमेरिका की पहली राजधानी बने शहर न्यूयाॅर्क में ओपेरा हाउस का उद्घाटन हुआ।

1893 पंजाब के महाराज रणजीत सिंह के सबसे छोटे पुत्र दलीप सिंह का देहांत हुआ।

1900 भारत के प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, हिंदुस्तान सोशलिस्ट रिपब्लिक एसोसिएशन के सहसंस्थापक और काकोरी रेल डकैती के प्रमुख व्यक्ति तथा शायर अशफाक उल्ला खाँ का जन्म शाहजहांपुर उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ। इन्हें ब्रिटिश सरकार ने 19 दिसंबर 1927 को राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल, राजेंद्र नाथ लाहिड़ी और ठाकुर रोशन सिंह के साथ फांसी की सजा दे दी।

1914 अमेरिकी कांग्रेस ने तीन हजार डाॅलर से अधिक आमदनी करने वाले लोगों पर आयकर लगाने का कानून पारित किया।

1922 विख्यात अमेरिकी राजनीतिज्ञ जॉन चौफी का जन्म हुआ।

1928 जाने माने भारतीय अंग्रेजी कवि, अंग्रेजी साहित्य के लिए पहले साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार पाने वाले जयंत महापात्र का जन्म कटक, उड़ीसा में हुआ।

1931 जयपुर के राजा मान सिंह द्वितीय के पुत्र भारतीय सेना में अफसर हुए भवानी सिंह का जन्म जयपुर में हुआ।

1933 सरदार बल्लभभाई पटेल के बड़े भाई स्वतन्त्रता सेनानी विट्ठलभाई पटेल का निधन हुआ।

1935 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय पार्टी के प्रमुख नेता रहे तथा त्रिपुरा में राज्यपाल रहे डी. वाई. पाटिल का जन्म हुआ।

1937 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी और उर्दू फिल्म अभिनेता, पटकथा लेखक, हास्य कलाकार और फिल्म निर्देशक कादर खान का जन्म काबुल, अफगानिस्तान में हुआ।

1946 विख्यात भारतीय अमेरिकी लेखक, वैकल्पिक दवाओं के मुखर पैरोकार, जन प्रवक्ता दीपक चोपड़ा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1952 विख्यात भारतीय अंतरिक्ष वैज्ञानिक ए. एस. किरण कुमार का जन्म कर्नाटक के हासन में हुआ।

1954 तत्कालीन मध्य प्रदेश के छत्तीसगढ़ में श्रमिक आंदोलन के प्रमुख सूत्रधार तथा सहकारिता आन्दोलन के मुख्य प्रणेता ठाकुर प्यारेलाल सिंह का देहांत हुआ।

1960 उत्तर भारत के प्रमुख शराब माफिया और रियल स्टेट कारोबारी, बिल्डर हुए पाॅन्टी चड्ढा यानी गुरदीप सिंह चड्ढा का जन्म मुरादाबाद में हुआ। 17 नवंबर 2012 को उन्हीं के एक सहयोगी माफिया सुखदेव सिंह नामधारी ने उन्हीं के दिल्ली स्थित एक फार्महाउस में ताबड़तोड़ गोलियां मारकर हत्या कर दी। नामधारी तब भाजपा सरकार में उत्तराखंड में दर्जा राज्यमंत्री थे, अभी जेल में हैं।

1963 प्रधानमंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने भाखड़ा नांगल डैम को राष्ट्र को समर्पित किया था। ये देश का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा बांध होने के साथ ही एशिया का भी दूसरा सबसे बड़ा बांध है। सन 1954 में नेहरू ने इस परियोजना का उद्घाटन किया था।

1964 महान फ्रांसीसी दार्शनिक, लेखक और आलोचक ज्याँ पाल सार्त्र ने नोबेल पुरस्कार ठुकराया। उन्होंने अपने संदर्भ में नोबल प्राइज की तुलना एक बोरी आलू से की थी। 1964 में इसी दिन नरेंद्र मोदी के विश्वस्त सहयोगी और केंद्रीय ग्रह मंत्री अमित शाह यानी अमित अनिल चंद्र शाह का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1966 ब्रिटेन का सबसे कुख्यात डबल एजेंट जार्ज ब्लेक दुस्साहसिक तरीके से जेल से फरार हुआ। ऐसा माना गया कि उसके जेल से भागने की योजना सोवियत संघ ने बनाई थी।

1967 अनेक फिल्मों और टीवी धारावाहिकों में अभिनय करने वाली बोल्ड अभिनेत्री और माॅडल किट्टू गिडवानी का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। उनका नाम कौशल्या भी है।

1970 लोकप्रिय, बोल्ड अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, निर्देशक और निर्माता, लेखिका, वक्ता एमी हार्ट रेडफोर्ड का जन्म हुआ।

1981 संयुक्त राज्य संघीय श्रम संबंध प्राधिकरण ने बीते अगस्त में हुई हड़ताल के लिए व्यावसायिक वायु यातायात नियंत्रक संगठन को अमान्य करने हेतु मतदान किया।

1983 मैरियन, इलिनोइस में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की जेल में कैदियों ने दो जेल सुधार अधिकारियों की हत्या कर दी।

1988 जानी-मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल परिणीति चोपड़ा का जन्म अंबाला, हरियाणा में हुआ।

1994 जाने माने भारतीय बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी समीर वर्मा का जन्म धार, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1996 गोयांग-सी, दक्षिण कोरिया में किम हान-बिन का जन्म हुआ जिन्हें पेशेवर रूप से बी.आई. के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह लोकप्रिय दक्षिण कोरियाई रैपर, गायक, गीतकार, रिकॉर्ड निर्माता और नर्तक हैं।

1997 डेनिश भगोड़े स्टीन क्रिस्टेंसन ने जेल से भागने के दौरान फिनलैंड के हेलसिंकी के उलानलिन्ना में दो पुलिस कर्मियों मुख्य कांस्टेबल ईरो होल्स्टी और वरिष्ठ कांस्टेबल एंटेरो पालो की हत्या कर दी।

1998 संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने बताया कि 1987 के बाद से युद्धों में 20 लाख से अधिक निर्दोष बच्चे मारे गये। इसी दिन इंग्लैंड और आयरलैंड में कुछ स्वयं सहायता समूहों, सामाजिक व्यक्तियों ने मिलकर पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हकलाना जागरूकता दिवस मनाया। इसमें हकलाने वाले व्यक्तियों के समक्ष आने वाली परेशानियों, बचाव, उपचार, सहयोग, समर्थन और सम्मान के बावत काम किया जाता है। अब यह आयोजन दुनिया भर में होता है।

2004 अंकटाड रिपोर्ट के अनुसार विदेशों में निवेश में भारत 14 वें स्थान पर रहा।

2007 चीनी राष्ट्रपति हू जिंताओ लगातार दूसरी बार सत्तारूढ़ चीनी कम्यूनिस्ट पार्टी के महासचिव बने। इसी दिन 21 तमिल टाइगर कमांडो ने अनुराधापुरा वायु सेना अड्डे पर अंधाधुंध मार-काट की जिसमें एक को छोड़कर सभी की मौत हो गई। श्रीलंका वायु सेना के आठ विमान नष्ट हो गए और दस क्षतिग्रस्त हो गए।

2008 चंद्रयान-1 का सफल लॉन्च किया था। ऐसा करने वाला भारत दुनिया का चैथा देश बन गया। श्रीहरिकोटा के सतीश धवन अंतरिक्ष केंद्र से लॉन्च किए गए चंद्रयान-1 में भारत ही नहीं, बल्कि अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन, जर्मनी, स्वीडन और बुल्गारिया में बने 11 साइंटिफिक इंस्ट्रूमेंट्स लगे थे।

2009 स्वीडन के लुथेरन चर्च ने समान-लिंग विवाह आयोजित करने का फैसला किया।

2010 जूलियन असांजे द्वारा स्थापित वेबसाइट विकिलीक्स ने इराक और अफगानिस्तान युद्ध से जुड़े हजारों गोपनीय अमेरिकी दस्तावेज सार्वजनिक किए।

2011 पश्चिम बंगाल के दार्जिलिंग जिले में लकड़ी का पुल टूटने से 31 लोगों की मौत हुई। बिजानबारी में अधिकारियों के भाषण सुनने के लिए 150 गांवों से लोग आए थे।

2014 ओटावा स्थित कनाडा की संसद पर माइकल जेहाफ बिडायु नामक एक सिरफिरे ने हमला किया, जिसमें एक सैनिक की मौत हो गयी और तीन अन्य घायल हो गये।

2016 प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश हास्य पुस्तक कलाकार स्टीव डिलन का निधन हुआ जिन्हें लेखक गर्थ एनिस के साथ हेलब्लेजर, प्रीचर और द पनिशर में उनके काम के लिए जाना जाता है। इसी दिन भारत ने कबड्डी विश्व कप जीता। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी विज्ञान कथा, डरावनी और रहस्यमय उपन्यासों की लेखिका शेरी स्टीवर्ट टेपर का निधन हुआ। वह मुख्य रूप से नारीवादी विज्ञान कथाओं के लिए जानी जाती हैं, जिसमें समाजशास्त्र, लिंग और समानता के साथ-साथ धर्मशास्त्र और पारिस्थितिकी के विषय हैं। टेपर ने व्यक्तिगत रूप से पर्यावरण-मानवतावादी पहलू को प्राथमिकता दी। उनकी अधिकांश रचनाएँ कल्पना और रूपक की दुनिया में काम करती हैं, लेकिन उनके लेखन के केंद्र में वास्तविक दुनिया का अन्याय और दर्द भी है। उन्होंने अपने जीवनकाल के दौरान कई छद्म नामों से लेखन किया जिनमें ए.जे. ओर्डे, इ.इ. होर्लाक और बी. जे. ओलीफांट शामिल हैं।

2017 प्रसिद्ध ऑस्ट्रेलियाई संगीतकार, गीतकार और रिकॉर्ड निर्माता जॉर्ज यंग का निधन हुआ।

2019 उत्तरी आयरलैंड में समलैंगिक विवाह को वैध और गर्भपात को अपराध की श्रेणी से बाहर कर दिया गया।

2021 भारत के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने जिला एवं राज्य उपभोक्ता विवाद निवारण आयोगों में नियुक्तियों न करने या नियुक्ति में लगातार देर करने पर नाराजगी जताते हुए कहा कि अगर सरकार न्यायाधिकरण नहीं चाहती है, तो उसे इससे संबंधित कानून समाप्त कर देना चाहिए। जस्टिस एसके कौल और जस्टिस एमएम सुंदरेश की पीठ ने कहा कि यह अफसोसजनक है कि शीर्ष अदालत से न्यायाधिकरणों में रिक्तियों की समीक्षा करने और उन्हें भरने के लिए कहा जा रहा है। पीठ ने कहा कि यदि सरकार न्यायाधिकरण नहीं चाहती है, तो वह कानून निरस्त कर दे। हम यह देखने के लिए अपने अधिकार क्षेत्र का विस्तार कर रहे हैं कि रिक्तियों को भरा जाए। यह दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है कि न्यायपालिका से यह मामला देखने को कहा गया है। यह बहुत अच्छी स्थिति नहीं है। इसी दिन कांग्रेस महासचिव प्रियंका गांधी ने शुक्रवार को महंगाई के मुद्दे पर केंद्र पर तीखा हमला बोलते हुए कहा कि 97 फीसदी परिवारों की आय में गिरावट आई है। उन्होंने ट्विटर पर कहा, जब आप पेट्रोल-डीजल खरीदते हैं, तो याद रखें कि मोदी सरकार ने टैक्स के जरिए 23 लाख करोड़ कमाए हैं। प्रियंका ने लिखा, जब आप खाना पकाने का तेल और सब्जियां खरीदते हैं, तो याद रखें कि इस सरकार के शासन के दौरान, हालांकि 97 प्रतिशत घरों की आय में कमी आई है, मोदी के दोस्त रोजाना 1,000 करोड़ रुपये कमा रहे हैं। पेट्रोल और डीजल की कीमतें देशभर में अपने उच्चतम स्तर पर पहुंच गईं, क्योंकि 22 अक्टूबर को लगातार तीसरे दिन ईंधन दरों में बढ़ोतरी की गई। राज्य के स्वामित्व वाले ईंधन खुदरा विक्रेताओं की एक मूल्य अधिसूचना के अनुसार, दिल्ली में पेट्रोल की पंप कीमत 35 पैसे बढ़कर 106.89 रुपये प्रति लीटर के उच्चतम स्तर पर पहुंच गई, जबकि डीजल की दरें भी उसी अंतर से बढ़कर 95.62 रुपये प्रति लीटर हो गईं।

2022 पश्चिम बंगाल में प्राथमिक शिक्षकों की भर्ती में कथित अनियमितताओं के खिलाफ पश्चिम बंगाल बोर्ड ऑफ प्राइमरी एजुकेशन (डब्ल्यूबीबीपीई) कार्यालय के बाहर प्रदर्शन कर रहे प्रदर्शनकारियों को हटाने के लिए देर रात पुलिस कार्रवाई के खिलाफ कोलकाता में शनिवार को नागरिक मंच के तत्वावधान में आयोजित विरोध मार्च में बंगाली सिनेमा के अनेक नामचीन चेहरों, अनेक, शिक्षाविदों, लेखकों और मशहूर हस्तियों ने रैली में प्रतिभाग किया। वाम मोर्चा और कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ राजनीतिक नेता उनके चले लेकिन उनके अपने-अपने दल के झंडे नहीं थे। विख्यात शिक्षाविद् पवित्र सरकार नेबताया कि यह राजनीतिक रैली नहीं है। यह शांतिपूर्ण और लोकतांत्रिक तरीके से आंदोलन कर रहे प्रदर्शनकारियों पर पुलिस द्वारा देर रात किए गए बर्बर हमले के खिलाफ नागरिकों का विरोध है।

2022 कुख्यात, खूंख्वार इतालवी राजनेता बेनीटो मुसोलिनी की पार्टी ब्रदर्स आफ इटली की महिला राजनेत्री जियोर्जिया मेलोनी ने प्रधानमंत्री पद की शपथ ली। यह इटली की पहली महिला प्रधानमंत्री हैं।
