1504 इटली के फ्लोरेंस में माइकल एंजेलो ने अपनी प्रसिद्ध मूर्ति डेविड का लोकार्पण किया। माइकलएंजेलो (माइकल एंजेलो डि लोडोविको बुआना रोत्ती, 1475-1534 ) इतालवी मूर्तिकार, चित्रकार, वास्तुकार और उच्च पुनर्जागरण युग के कवि थे जो फ्लोरेंस गणराज्य में पैदा हुए थे। उन्होंने पश्चिमी कला के विकास पर अद्वितीय प्रभाव डाला। उन्हें उनके जीवनकाल के दौरान सबसे महान जीवित कलाकार माना गया। डेविड इतालवी पुनर्जागरण मूर्तिकला की एक उत्कृष्ट कृति है। 5.17 मीटर (17 फीट 0 इंच) की ऊंचाई की डेविड शास्त्रीय पुरातन और प्रारंभिक आधुनिक काल की मिश्रित मूर्तिकला का बेहतरीन नमूना हैं पहली विशाल संगमरमर की मूर्ति थी, जो 16वीं शताब्दी और उसके बाद के लिए एक मिसाल थी। पहले इसे फ्लोरेंस कैथेड्रल (डुओमो डि फिरेंजे) के पूर्वी छोर की छत पर स्थापित किया जाना तय किया था, लेकिन कुछ कारणों से इसे पलाजो डेला सिग्नोरिया के सामने सार्वजनिक चौरस्ते पर स्थापित किया गया। 1873 में, प्रतिमा को गैलेरिया डेल’एकेडेमिया, फ्लोरेंस में स्थानांतरित किया गया औ 1910 में मूल स्थान पर एक प्रतिकृति द्वारा प्रतिस्थापित किया गया था। बाइबिल का पात्र डेविड फ्लोरेंस की कला में एक पसंदीदा विषय था। जिस आकृति का यह प्रतिनिधित्व करता है उसकी प्रकृति के कारण, प्रतिमा जल्द ही फ्लोरेंस गणराज्य के संविधान में सन्निहित नागरिक स्वतंत्रता की रक्षा का प्रतीक बन गई। एक स्वतंत्र शहर-राज्य जिसे अधिक शक्तिशाली प्रतिद्वंद्वी राज्यों द्वारा हर तरफ से खतरा था। माइकलएंजेलो की डेविड और अन्य मूर्तियों को देखने दुनिया भर से लाखों लोग हर साल इटली के शहर फ्लोरेंस पहुंचते हैं।

1910 यशस्वी हिंदी कहानीकार राधाकृष्ण का जन्म हुआ।

1922 विख्यात अमेरिकी हास्य अभिनेता (योर शो ऑफ शोज) सिड सिजर का जन्म हुआ।

1938 कुप्पाली, कर्नाटक में के. पी. पूर्णचंद्र तेजस्वी का जन्म हुआ। तेजस्वी कन्नड़ भाषा के विख्यात साहित्यकार हुए, उनके उपन्यास चिदंबर रहस्य के लिये उन्हें 1987 का साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार मिला।

1936 साहू जैन परिवार की कारोबारी महिला इंदू जैन का जन्म अयोध्या में हुआ। यह भारत के प्रमुख मीडिया समूह टाइम्स आॅफ इंडिया की अध्यक्ष रहीं।

1943 द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के दौरान इटली ने मित्र सेना के साथ एक बिना शर्त युद्धविराम संधि पर दस्तखत किया था जिसकी घोषणा जनरल आइजनहावर ने की।

1945 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति हैरी ट्रुमैन ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र चार्टर पर हस्ताक्षर किया।

1960 भारत की लौह महिला कहलाईं प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी के पति प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, पत्रका और लोकसभा के प्रभावशाली सदस्य रहे फीरोज गाँधी का निधन हुआ। उन्होंने अपने दौर के प्रतिष्ठित अखबारों नेशनल हेराल्ड और नवजीवन का प्रकाशन किया।

1962 बंबई में रोहिंटन सोली रोनी स्क्रूवाला का जन्म हुआ। स्क्रूवाला अमीर कारोबारी, फिल्म फाइनेंसर, निर्माता, यूटीवी मीडिया समूह के संस्थापक और सीईओ हैं। उन्हें एस्क्वायर की सितम्बर 2008 में प्रकाशित 21वीं सदी के 75 सबसे प्रभावशाली लोगों की सूची में शामिल किया गया। ।

1966 साइंस-फिक्शन यानी साई-फाई शोज अमेरिकी चैनल एनसीबी पर स्टार ट्रैक सीरीज का पहला एपिसोड प्रसारित किया गया। शुरुआत में इस सीरीज के केवल 3 सीजन ही बनाए गए थे, जो इतने प्रसिद्ध हुए कि स्टार ट्रैक अमेरिकी मनोरंजन उद्योग का सबसे लोकप्रिय ब्रांड बन गया। इसी दिन 1966 लोगों को पढ़ाई के प्रति जागरूक करने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र की एजेंसी यूनेस्को ने साक्षरता दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत की। 17 नवम्बर 1965 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की संस्था युनेस्को ने इसका प्रस्ताव पारित किया था।

1974 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल इंद्रनील सेनगुप्ता का जन्म अहमदाबाद में हुआ।

1982 जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के वजीए-ए-आजम यानी प्रधानमंत्री रहे शेख मोहम्मद अब्दुल्ला का निधन हुआ।

1986 हैदराबाद में जाने माने भारतीय बैडमिंटन खिलाडी परुपल्ली कश्यप का जन्म हुआ। ग्लासगो में आयोजित कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स 2014 में पी. कश्यप ने बैडमिंटन मेंस सिंगल्स में गोल्ड मेडल जीता। कश्यप ने सिंगापुर के डी. वोंग को 21-14, 11-21, 21-19 से हराया। पी. कश्यप ने कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स के बैडमिंटन मेंस सिंगल्स में 32 सालों बाद किसी भारतीय के गोल्ड जीतने का रिकार्ड बनाया। इसी दिन चिली के राष्ट्रपति अगस्टो पिनोशे एक जानलेवा हमले में बाल-बाल बच गए। इस हमले में उनके पांच अंगरक्षकों की मौत हो गई थी और 11 अन्य घायल हुए। इसी दिन जापानी कंपनी निसान ने इंग्लैंड के सुंदरलैंड में अपना पहला कारखाना खोला। यह यूरोप में कारखाना खोलने वाली पहली जापानी ऑटोमोबाइल कंपनी बनी।

1988 बाॅम्बे डाइंग जैसे कपड़ों के जाने-माने ब्रांड के मालिक व्यवसायी विजयपत सिंघानिया अपने माइक्रो लाइट सिंगल इंजन एयरक्राफ्ट से उसे खुद चलाकर लंदन से अहमदाबाद पहुँचे। 1988 में इसी दिन अफगानिस्तान में नौ साल के युद्ध के बाद रूसी सेना की वापसी शुरू हुई।

1989 स्टाकहोम, स्वीडन में लोकप्रिय स्वीडिश डीजे अवीची का जन्म हुआ। टिम बर्गलिंग जिन्हें एविसी या अवीची के नाम से जाना जाता है। स्वीडिश डीजे, रीमिक्सर और संगीत निर्माता थे। 16 साल की उम्र में, बर्गलिंग ने इलेक्ट्रॉनिक संगीत मंचों पर अपने रीमिक्स संगीत प्रस्तुतियां प्रस्तुत कीं। उनका पहला रिकॉर्ड सौदा हुआ। 2011 में अपने एकल एल्वम लेवल्स से अधिक प्रसिद्धि हुए। उनके पहले स्टूडियो एल्बम, ट्रू (2013) में इलेक्ट्रॉनिक संगीत को कई शैलियों के तत्वों के साथ मिश्रित किया गया और इसे खूब पसंद किया गया। यह 15 से अधिक देशों में शीर्ष 10 में पहुंचा और अंतरराष्ट्रीय चार्ट में शीर्ष पर पहुंच गया। वेक मी अप, यूरोप के अधिकांश संगीत बाजारों में शीर्ष पर रहा और चौथे नंबर पर पहुंचा संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में बहुत कम उम्र में अवीची का निधन 20 अप्रैल 2018 को हो गया।

1991 मैसिडोनिया गणराज्य स्वतंत्र हुआ। 1991 में इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने उत्तरी और दक्षिण कोरिया की सदस्याता को मंजूरी दी।

2002 जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल रीम समीर शेख का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन नेपाल में माओवादियों ने 119 पुलिस कर्मियों को मार डाला।

2003 इस्रायल के प्रधानमंत्री एरियल शैरोन चार दिवसीय भारत यात्रा पर नई दिल्ली पहुँचे।

2006 हिंदू चरमपंथी संगठन ने महाराष्ट्र के नासिक जिले में मालेगाँव बम धमाके किये। घटना के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किए गए तीन लोगों की पहचान साध्वी प्रज्ञा सिंह ठाकुर, शिव नारायण गोपाल सिंह कलसंघरा और श्याम भवरलाल साहू के रूप में हुई। 8 सितम्बर, 2006 को महाराष्ट्र के नासिक जिले में हुए बम धमाकों को भारत के सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण आतंकवादी घटनाओं में से एक माना जाता है। ये धमाके एक मुस्लिम कब्रगाह में हुए जिसमें कम से कम 30 जाने गईं और कोई 125 लोग घायल हो गए। इनमें प्रज्ञा आरएसएस समर्थक भाजपा की उग्र और बेहद विवादित भोपाल से लोकसभा सदस्य हैं। मालेगांव विस्फोट के जांच अधिकारी हेमंत करकरे, महात्मा गांधी और कई अन्य के खिलाफ यह बेहद आपत्तिजनक बयान दे चुकी हैं। यह लगभग रोजाना हिंसा और नफरत को प्रोत्साहित करने वाले वक्तव्य देती हैं।

2008 सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने कैनफिना म्यूचुअल फंड घोटाले मामले के मुख्य अभियुक्त और शेयर दलाल केतन पारिख व अन्य आरोपियों को जमानत दी। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी पत्रिका फोर्ब्स ने भारतीय अरबपति लक्ष्मी मित्तल को लाइफ टाइम अचीवमेंट अवार्ड देने की घोषणा की।

2020 हिंदुजा समूह की प्रमुख कंपनी अशोक लीलैंड के मानद चेयरमैन आरजे साहनी का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन 2020 में तेलुगू रंगमंच एवं फिल्मों के जाने-माने अभिनेता जयप्रकाश रेड्डी का निधन हुआ।

2022 यूनाइटेड किंगडम की महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय की 70 वर्षों तक शासन करने के बाद स्कॉटलैंड के बाल्मोरल कैसल में मृत्यु हो गई। उनके बेटे प्रिंस ऑफ वेल्स चार्ल्स ने चार्ल्स तृतीय के रूप में राज सिंहासन संभाला। इसी दिन इंग्लैंड की ग्वेनेथ पॉवेल का निधन हुआ। पॉवेल अंग्रेजी अभिनेत्री थीं। उन्हें 1980 और 1991 के बीच बीबीसी टेलीविजन श्रृंखला ग्रेंज हिल में ग्यारह श्रृंखलाओं के लिए हेडमिस्ट्रेस ब्रिजेट मैक्लुस्की के किरदार के लिए लोकप्रियता मिली। पॉवेल का जन्म 5 जुलाई 1946 को लेवेनशुल्मे, मैनचेस्टर में हुआ था और उन्होंने चेडल काउंटी ग्रामर स्कूल फॉर गर्ल्स में पढ़ाई की थी। उस दौरान वह नेशनल यूथ थिएटर के बेन जोंसन के बार्थोलेम्यू फेयर के प्रोडक्शन में फैट उर्स के रूप में लोकप्रिय हुईं। उन्होंने मूल रूप से गोल्डस्मिथ्स, लंदन विश्वविद्यालय में एक शिक्षक के रूप में प्रशिक्षण लिया, लेकिन इसके बजाय उन्होंने रिपर्टरी थिएटर में अभिनय करना पसंद किया।

1504 Michelangelo unveils his famous statue of David in Florence, Italy. Michelangelo (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buana Rotti, 1475–1534) was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet of the High Renaissance era who was born in the Republic of Florence. He exerted a unique influence on the development of Western art. He was regarded as the greatest living artist during his lifetime. The David is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance sculpture. The 5.17 m (17 ft 0 in) tall David was the first colossal marble statue, a fine example of a fusion of classical antiquity and early modern sculpture, a precedent for the 16th century and beyond. It was originally intended to be installed on the roof of the eastern end of the Florence Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze), but for some reason it was installed in the public square in front of the Palazzo della Signoria. In 1873, the statue was moved to the Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence, and replaced by a replica in 1910 at the original location. The biblical character David was a favorite subject in Florence's art. Due to the nature of the figure it represents, the statue soon became a symbol of defense of civil liberties as embodied in the Constitution of the Republic of Florence. An independent city-state that was threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states. Millions of people from all over the world reach the Italian city of Florence every year to see Michelangelo's David and other sculptures.
