551 ईसा पूर्व में 28 सितंबर को चीन के कूफु, जिनिंग में महान दार्शनिक, विचारक, समाज सचेतक कनफ्यूसियस का जन्म हुआ माना जाता है। उनका नाम कोंग फूजी था जिसे लैटिन में अनुवादित कर कनफ्यूसियस लिखा गया। कनफ्यूसियस चीनी दर्शन में चीनी संतों का आदर्श माना जाता है। कन्फ्यूशियस की शिक्षाएँ और दर्शन पूर्वी एशियाई संस्कृति और समाज को रेखांकित करती हैं, जो पूरे चीन और पूर्वी एशिया में प्रभावशाली हैं। उनका एक विचार, घृणा करना आसान है, जबकि प्रेम करना मुश्किल। दुनिया की सारी चीजे ऐसे ही काम करती हैं, सारी अच्छी चीजों को पाना मुश्किल होता हैं, और बुरी चीजें बड़ी आसानी से मिल जाती हैं।

48 ईस्वी में मिस्र के राजा टॉलेमी के आदेश पर पोंपी द ग्रेट की हत्या की गई। ग्नियस पोम्पेयस मैग्नस को अंग्रेजी में पोंपी और पोंपी द ग्रेट के नाम से जाना जाता है। रोमन के एक जनरल और राजनेता थे। उन्होंने रोम को गणतंत्र से साम्राज्य में बदलने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। अपने करियर की शुरुआत में, वह रोमन जनरल और तानाशाह सुल्ला का पक्षपाती और शिष्य था, बाद में वह जूलियस सीजर का राजनीतिक सहयोगी और बाद में शत्रु बना। सीनेटरियल कुलीन वर्ग के एक सदस्य, पोंपी ने युवावस्था में ही सैन्य करियर में प्रवेश किया। वह 83-81 ईसा पूर्व के गृह युद्ध में एक कमांडर के रूप में तानाशाह सुल्ला की सेवा करते हुए प्रमुखता से उभरा। युवावस्था में एक जनरल के रूप में पोंपी की सफलता ने उन्हें पारंपरिक कर्सस ऑनोरम (राजनीतिक करियर में आगे बढ़ने के लिए आवश्यक कदम) का पालन किए बिना सीधे अपने पहले कौंसलशिप में आगे बढ़ने में सक्षम बनाया। पोंपी तीन अवसरों (70, 55, 52 ईसा पूर्व) पर कौंसल के रूप में चुना गयाा। तीन विजयों का जश्न मनाया, सर्टोरियन युद्ध, तीसरे सर्वाइल युद्ध, तीसरे मिथ्रिडैटिक युद्ध और कई अन्य सैन्य अभियानों में एक कमांडर के रूप में कार्य किया। पोंपी की शुरुआती सफलता ने उन्हें उनके बचपन के नायक अलेक्जेंडर द ग्रेट के बाद मैग्नस - द ग्रेट नाम दिया। उनके विरोधियों ने उनकी निर्ममता के लिए उन्हें एडुलसेंटुलस कार्निफेक्स (किशोर कसाई) उपनाम दिया। वह जिधर हमले करता बहुत क्रूरता से दुश्मन लड़ाकों की हत्या करता, करवाता था। भीषण मार-काट से प्रायः सामने वाली फौज कमजोर पड़ जाती और पोंपी विजयी हो जाता। 60 ईसा पूर्व में पोंप क्रैसस और सीजर के साथ अनौपचारिक राजनीतिक गठबंधन में शामिल हो गया जिसे फर्स्ट ट्रायमवीरेट के नाम से जाना जाता है। गठजोड़ सीजर की बेटी जूलिया के साथ पोंप के विवाह से मजबूत हुआ। जूलिया और क्रैसस (54 और 53 ईसा पूर्व में) की मृत्यु के बाद पोंप ऑप्टिमेट्स नामक राजनीतिक गुट में चला गया जो रोमन सीनेट का एक रूढ़िवादी गुट था। इसके बाद पोंप और सीजर ने संपूर्ण रोमन राज्य के नेतृत्व के लिए एक दूसरे से प्रतिस्पर्धा शुरू कर दी, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप अंततः सीजर का गृह युद्ध हुआ। 48 ईसा पूर्व में फार्सलस की लड़ाई में पोंप हार गया तो उसने टॉलेमिक मिस्र में शरण ली, जहां राजा टॉलेमी बारहवें के दरबारियों ने उसकी हत्या कर दी। पोंपी ठीक अपने जन्म दिन से एक दिन पूर्व यानी 28 सितंबर को मार डाला गया। उसका जन्म ईसा पूर्व 29 सितंबर को प्राचीन इटली के पिसेनम में हुआ था।

235 पोप पोंटियन ने इस्तीफा दिया। उसे रोम के हिप्पोलिटस के साथ सार्डिनिया की खदानों में निर्वासित कर दिया गया है। रोम के हिप्पोलिटस दूसरी-तीसरी शताब्दी के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण ईसाई धर्मशास्त्रियों में से एक थे, जिनकी उत्पत्ति, पहचान और संग्रह विद्वानों और इतिहासकारों के लिए अज्ञात बने हुए हैं। सुझाए गए समुदायों में रोम, फिलिस्तीन, मिस्र, अनातोलिया और मध्य पूर्व के अन्य क्षेत्र शामिल हैं। प्राचीन चर्च में साहित्य के सर्वश्रेष्ठ इतिहासकार, जिनमें कैसरिया के यूसेबियस और जेरोम शामिल हैं, खुले तौर पर स्वीकार करते हैं कि वे यह नहीं बता सकते कि बाइबिल के टिप्पणीकार और धर्मशास्त्री हिप्पोलिटस ने कहाँ सेवा की थी, उन्होंने उसकी रचनाएँ पढ़ी थीं लेकिन उनके पास उसके समुदाय और स्थान का सबूत नहीं था।

1542 खोजकर्ता रोड्रिग्ज कैब्रिलो ने सान दिएगो कहे जाने वाले इलाके के नजदीक कदम रखा था और वेस्ट कोस्ट पहुंचने वाले पहले यूरोपीय बने।

1746 भारत में प्राचीन भारत संबंधी सांस्कृतिक अनुसंधानों के प्रारंभकर्ता अंग्रेज चिंतक विलियम जोंस का जन्म हुआ।

1796 रूसी महारानी कैथरीन द्वितीय ने ब्रिटेन के साथ गठबंधन समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1825 रेल को खींचने के लिए जॉर्ज स्टीवेंसन ने पहला इंजन चलाकर सफल परीक्षण किया।

1836 शिरडी के आध्यात्मिक गुरु साईं बाबा का जन्म इस दिन हुआ माना जाता है।

1837 भारत के अंतिम मुगल बादशाह बहादुर शाह द्वितीय ने दिल्ली का शासन संभाला। इन्होंने अंग्रेजी राज का पुरजोर विरोध किया और दिल्ली में क्रांतिकारी अभियान क्रांतिकारियों के साथ हो गये

। भारी पुलिस फौज के साथ अंग्रेजों ने हमला किया। बाद में अंग्रेजों ने उन्हें पकड़ लिया। उनके बेटों को गोली मार दी। बाद में उन्हें बर्मा में कैद में रखा। इसी दिन सैमुअल मोर्स ने टेलीग्राफ के पेटेंट के लिए आवेदन किया।

1850 अमेरिकी नौसेना में कोड़े मारने की सजा समाप्त की गई।

1867 विख्यात अमेरिकी शिक्षक, स्कूल प्रशासक, समाचार पत्र संपादक, कवि और निबंधकार जेम्स एडविन कैंपबेल का जन्म पोमेरौए, ओहियो में हुआ।

1885 विख्यात हिंदी साहित्यकार तथा सरस्वती पत्रिका के संपादक श्री नारायण चतुर्वेदी का जन्म हुआ।

1887 चीन के ह्वांग-हो नदी में आयी बाढ़ से करीब 15 लाख लोग मरे।

1895 फ्रांस के प्रसिद्ध जैव वैज्ञानिक लुईस पाश्चर का निधन हुआ। पाश्चर ने रैबीज के टीके विकास किया था। उनकी पुण्य तिथि पर दुनिया भर में ग्लोबल एलायंस फॉर रेबीज कंट्रोल के दिशा-निर्देशन में रैबीज के प्रति जनजागरूकता, सरकारी नीतियां तैयार करने और सहयोग के आदान प्रदान के लिए विश्व रैबीज दिवस मनाया जाता है।

1896 क्रांतिकारी भावनाओं से ओत-प्रोत पत्रकार रामहरख सिंह सहगल का जन्म हुआ।

1900 विख्यात अमेरिकी समाजवादी कार्यकत्री, चिंतक और द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान फ्रांसीसी प्रतिरोध की सदस्य रहीं इसाबेल टाउनसेंड पेल का जन्म हुआ। उन्हें 1947 में फ्रांस के सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान लीजन ऑफ ऑनर से अलंकृत किया गया।

1920 शिकागो व्हाइट सॉक्स बेसबाल टीम के आठ सदस्यों को निर्णायक मंडल ने 1919 की विश्व श्रृंखला में घूस लेकर सिनसिनाटी रेड्स से हार जाने का दोषी पाया।

1921 हिंदी के विख्यात शिक्षाविद्, लेखक, साहित्यिक आलोचक और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता कल्याण मल लोढ़ा का जन्म हुआ।

1923 इथोपिया ने राष्ट्र संघ की सदस्यता छोड़ी।

1928 अमेरिका ने चीन की राष्ट्रवादी च्यांग काई-शेक की सरकार को मान्यता दी।

1928 स्कॉटलैंड के वैज्ञानिक सर एलेक्जेंडर फ्लेमिंग अपनी लैब में काम कर रहे थे। एक प्रयोग के दौरान उन्हें एक फंगस दिखा। उस फंगस पर की गई रिसर्च ने पूरी दुनिया में इलाज के तरीके को बदलकर रख दिया। सर फ्लेमिंग की उस रिसर्च से ही दुनिया को पहली एंटीबायोटिक मेडिसिन पेनिसिलिन मिली थी। यह दवा पेनिसिलिन क्षय रोग यानी टीबी के इलाज में बहुत काम आई।

1929 स्वर कोकिला कही गई प्रख्यात भारतीय पार्श्व गायिका लता मंगेशकर का जन्म हुआ।

1947 आवामी लीग की नेता और बांग्लादेश की प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना वाजेद का जन्म हुआ। बांग्लादेश के तुंगीपारा में जन्मीं शेख हसीना बांग्लादेश के संस्थापकों में से एक शेख मुजीबुर रहमान की पुत्री हैं।

1949 भारत के 41वें मुख्य न्यायाधीश राजेंद्र मल लोढ़ा का जन्म हुआ।

1950 इंडोनेशिया संयुक्त राष्ट्र का 60वां सदस्य देश बना।

1953 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी खगोलशास्त्री एडविन हब्बल का निधन हुआ।

1954 राजस्थानी पाॅप सिंगर, लोकगीत गायिका, अभिनेत्री और टेलीविजन कलाकार इला अरुण का जन्म जोधपुर में हुआ।

1958 फ्रांस में संविधान लागू हुआ।

1977 जापानी रेड आर्मी ने जापान एयरलाइंस के एक विमान को भारत के ऊपर हाईजैक कर लिया। 156 लोग उसमें सवार थे।

1982 भारतीय निशानेबाज अभिनव बिंद्रा का जन्म हुआ। अभिनव अगस्त 2008 में बीजिंग ओलंपिक में व्यक्तिगत स्वर्ण पदक जीतने वाले पहले भारतीय खिलाड़ी बने। इसी दिन 1982 में जाने माने बालीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता रणबीर कपूर का जन्म हुआ।

1983 इंडियन यूनियन मुस्लिम लीग के राजनीतिज्ञ और केरल के मुख्यमंत्री हुए सी. एच. मुहम्मद कोया का निधन हुआ।

1984 एरिजोना के फोएनिक्स में मेलोडी थॉर्नटन का जन्म हुआ। मेलोडी अमेरिकी गायिका, गीत लेखिका, संगीतज्ञ, मंच एवं टेलीविजन हस्ती हैं। हाई स्कूल से स्नातक करने के बाद, थॉर्नटन पॉप गर्ल ग्रुप पुसीकैट डॉल्स के मुख्य गायिका बनीं, पीसीडी और डॉल डोमिनेशन एल्बम जारी किए जो दुनिया के सबसे ज्यादा बिकने वाले गर्ल ग्रुप में से एक बन गए।

1985 बहुचर्चित, बहुविवादित, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बाॅलीवुड फिल्म, टेलीविजन और वीडियो शो अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल मौनी राय नांबियार का जन्म कूच बिहार में हुआ।

1987 तारक मेहता का उल्टा चश्मा जैसे तमाम टेलीविजन धारावाहिकों से लोकप्रिय खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल मुनमुन दत्ता का जन्म दुर्गापुर, बंगाल में हुआ।

1988 विख्यात अमेरिकी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, मॉडल, कॉमेडियन, फैशन डिजाइनर और कारोबारी हाना मॅई ली का जन्म सदर्न कैलीफोर्निया में हुआ। उन्हें म्यूजिकल कॉमेडी पिच परफेक्ट फिल्म श्रृंखला में लिली ओनाकुरमारा की भूमिका और हॉरर कॉमेडी फिल्म द बेबीसिटर और इसके 2020 सीक्वल में सोन्या की भूमिका के लिए विशेष रूप से जाना जाता है। ली फैशन लाइन हनामन की मालकिन हैं।

1994 एतोमिया के जल पोत के तुर्क सागर में डूब जाने से 800 लोगों की मृत्यु।

1996 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सिमरन पारिंजा का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1997 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष शटल अटलांटिक रूसी अंतरिक्ष केंद्र मीर से जुड़ा।

1998 फेमिना मिस इंडिया 2018, चीन में 2018 में आयोजित मिस वर्ल्ड प्रतियोगिता में प्रतिभाग करने वाली, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अनुकृति वास का जन्म तिरुचिरापल्ली में हुआ।

2000 फ्रैंकलिन नथानिएल जोनास का जन्म रिजवुड, न्यूजर्सी में हुआ। फ्रैंकलिन अमेरिकी गायक, गीतकार और पूर्व बाल अभिनेता हैं। जोनास ने 2008 की फिल्म पोनियो में सोसुके को अपनी आवाज दी थी और वह डिज्नी चैनल श्रृंखला जोनास में एक आवर्ती चरित्र था। वह डिजनी चैनल की मूल फिल्म कैंप रॉक 2: द फाइनल जैम में एक छोटी भूमिका में भी दिखाई दिए। फ्रैंकलिन नथानिएल जोनास भारतीय अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, कारोबारी और माॅडल प्रियंका चोपड़ा के पति निक जोनस के छोटे भाई हैं। इसी दिन सिडनी ओलंपिक में साल 200 मीटर की दौड़ के स्वर्ण पदक का खिताब मोरियाना जोंस तथा केंटेरिस ने जीता।

2001 अमेरिका व ब्रिटिश सेना एवं सहयोगियों ने ऑपरेशन एंड्योरिंग फ्रीडम प्रारंभ किया।

2002 अमेरिकी कारोबारी एलन मस्क अंतरिक्ष कंपनी स्पेसएक्स की स्थापना की। स्पेसएक्स के नाम पर 28 सितंबर 2008 को एक बड़ी उपलब्धि दर्ज हुई। 28 सितंबर 2008 को स्पेसएक्स ने फॉल्कन-1 को लॉन्च किया था। इसी के साथ फॉल्कन-1 धरती की कक्षा में जाने वाला दुनिया का पहला प्राइवेट रॉकेट बन गया था। स्पेसएक्स कई लोगों को अंतरिक्ष यात्रा करवा चुकी है और मस्क अब दुनिया के सबसे अमीरों में से एक हैं।

2003 इटली में बिजली आपूर्ति व्यवस्था में बड़ा व्यवधान आने से इटली के करीब 90 प्रतिशत क्षेत्र में विद्युत आपूर्ति भंग हो गई और काम-काज ठप्प हो गया। लोग इससे ट्रेनों और लिफ्ट और अन्य जहां - तहां फंस गये।

2004 विश्व बैंक ने भारत को विश्व की चौथी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था कहा।

2006 जापान के नव निर्वाचित एवं 90वें प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में शिंजो एबे ने शपथ ली। इसी दिन 2006 में तालिबान ने लादेन के जीवित होने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन 2006 में फ्रांस की चिकित्सा टीम ने लगभग शून्य गुरुत्वाकर्षण में एक व्यक्ति का सफल आपरेशन किया।

2007 रूस ने ईरान पर सुरक्षा परिषद के माध्यम से लगे नये प्रतिबंधों का विरोध किया। इसी दिन मेक्सिको के तटीय क्षेत्रों में आये चक्रवर्ती तूफान लोरेंजो ने भारी तबाही मचाई। 2007 में इसी दिन नेशनल एयरोनॉटिक्स स्पेस एडमिनिशस्ट्रशन (नासा) ने विशेष यान डॉन का प्रक्षेपण किया।

2008 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवि एवं साहित्यकार शिवप्रसाद सिंह का निधन हुआ।

2009 भारत की विश्व स्तरीय टेनिस खिलाड़ी सानिया मिर्जा पैन पैसिफिक ओपन के पहले राउंड में हार के बाद बाहर हुई।

2011 UP मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने 72 जिलों वाले उत्तर प्रदेश में पंचशील नगर, प्रबुद्धनगर और संभल नामक तीन और जिले के निर्माण की घोषणा की।

2014 चीन की नेशनल पीपुल्स कांग्रेस द्वारा लगाए गए तानाशाही प्रतिबंधात्मक राजनीतिक सुधारों के जवाब में हांगकांग विरोध प्रदर्शन शुरू हुआ।

2015 साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवि, लेखक, पत्रकार, संपादक तथा प्रोफेसर वीरेन डंगवाल का निधन हुआ। 2015 में इसी दिन गाजियाबाद के दादरी गांव कें मोहम्मद अखलाक को गोमांस खाने के संदेह के चलते तथाकथित हिंदुत्वादियों ने पीट-पीटकर मार दिया। मोदी शासन काल में यह पहली मुस्लिम मोबलिंचिंग थी।

2016 पोलैंड में जन्मे इस्राइल के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री शिमोन पेरेज का निधन हुआ। पेरेज को 1993 में इस्राइल सरकार और फलस्तीन मुक्ति संगठन के बीच हुई ओस्लो संधि में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान देने के लिए 1994 में नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था। इसी दिन 2016 में अफगानिस्तान, बांग्लादेश, भूटान और भारत ने इस्लामाबाद में नवंबर 2016 में होने वाले सार्क सम्मेलन में भाग लेने से इनकार किया।

2017 प्रसिद्ध इजराइली टेलीविजन होस्ट और न्यूजरीडर डैनियल पीयर का निधन हुआ।

2018 उच्चतम न्यायालय ने केरल के सबरीमाला स्थित अय्यप्पा स्वामी मंदिर में एक खास आयुवर्ग की महिलाओं के प्रवेश पर लगी पाबंदी हटाते हुए, सभी उम्र की महिलाओं को मंदिर में प्रवेश की अनुमति दी। हालांकि बाद में मुख्य न्यायाधीश बने रंजन गोगोई ने इस फैसले को पलट दिया। उन्होंने सबरीमला, राफेल और राम मंदिर इत्यादि पर मोदी सरकार की इच्छा के अनुरूप फैसले दिए।

2028 विख्यात सर्बीयाई थिएटर, फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता, 200 से अधिक थिएटर प्रस्तुतियां, 50 फिल्में और 30 टेलीविजन श्रृंखलाओं में काम करने वाले प्रेड्रैग एजडस का निधन हुआ।

2019 पेशेवर रूप से जोस जोस के नाम से लोकप्रिय मैक्सिकन गायक, एल प्रिंसिपे डे ला कैनसिओन (द प्रिंस ऑफ सॉन्ग) बेहद लोकप्रिय जोस रोमुलो सोसा ऑर्टिज का निधन हुआ। उनके प्रदर्शन और गायन शैली ने चार दशकों से अधिक के करियर में कई लैटिन पॉप कलाकारों को प्रभावित किया है। उनके गायन और लोकप्रियता के कारण, जोस जोस को लैटिन दर्शकों और मीडिया द्वारा लैटिन पॉप संगीत का प्रतीक और अपने समय के सबसे प्रतिष्ठित लैटिन गायकों में से एक माना जाता है।

2020 आर्मीनिया और अजरबैजान के बीच नागोरनो-कराबाख इलाके को लेकर लड़ाई शुरू हुई।

In 60 BC Pompey joined an informal political alliance with Crassus and Caesar known as the First Triumvirate. The alliance was strengthened by Pompey's marriage to Caesar's daughter Julia. After the deaths of Julia and Crassus (in 54 and 53 BC), Pompey moved into the political faction called the Optimates, a conservative faction of the Roman Senate. Pompey and Caesar then began competing with each other for leadership of the entire Roman state, which ultimately resulted in Caesar's Civil War. When Pompey was defeated at the Battle of Pharsalus in 48 BC, he took refuge in Ptolemaic Egypt, where he was assassinated by the courtiers of King Ptolemy XII. Pompey was killed on 28 September, just a day before his birthday. He was born on September 29 BC in Picenum, ancient Italy.
