96 सम्राट डोमिशियन की उनकी पत्नी डोमिटिया और दो प्रेटोरियन प्रीफेक्ट्स ने परिणामस्वरूप हत्या कर दी गई। फिर नेरवा को उसका उत्तराधिकारी घोषित किया गया। डोमिशियन 81 से 96 तक रोमन सम्राट थे। वह फ्लेवियन राजवंश के अंतिम सदस्य थे।

324 बैटलोफ क्राइसोपोलिस युद्ध में कॉन्स्टेंटाइन द ग्रेट ने लाइसिनियस को हराया और रोमन एम्पायर पर कॉन्स्टेंटाइन का पूर्ण नियंत्रण स्थापित किया।

1066 नॉर्वेजियन राजा हेराल्ड हार्डराडा टोस्टिग गॉडविंसन के साथ हम्बर नदी के तट पर जहाज से जमीन पर आए और इंग्लैंड पर आक्रमण शुरू किया।

1180 फिलिप ऑगस्टस पंद्रह वर्ष की आयु में फ्रांस के राजा के पद पर सिंहासनारूढ़ हुए।

1454 तेरह साल चले युद्ध में चोजनीस की लड़ाई में पोलिश सेना ट्यूटनिक शूरवीरों से हार गई।

1544 जुआन बाउटिस्टा पास्टेन का अभियान दक्षिणी चिली के सैन पेड्रो खाड़ी में पहुंचा और स्पेन के क्षेत्र पर दावा किया।

1502 अपनी पहली लंबी समुद्री यात्रा में सन 1492 में अमेरिका की खोज करने वाले इतालवी नाविक और खोजी क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस अपनी अगली यात्रा कोस्टारिका पहुँचे।

1615 इंग्लैंड के राजा जेम्स प्रथम के एंबेसडर थामस रॉ मुगल शहंशाह जहाँगीर से मिलने गुजराज के सूरत पहुँचे।

1547 विश्व प्रसिद्ध इतालवी संगीतकार, गायिका, ल्यूटेनिस्ट, कवि और प्रारंभिक बारोक युग की प्रमुख संगीत शिक्षिका फ्रांसेस्का कैसिनी का जन्म इटली के फ्लोरेंस में हुआ।

1635 फर्डिनैंड द्वितीय ने फ्रांस के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1739 तुर्की तथा ऑस्ट्रिया ने शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1769 बोस्टन, मैसाचुसेट्स के संगीत के शौकीन जॉन हैरिस ने पहले स्पाइनेट पियानो बनाया।

1803 अंग्रेजों ने ओडिशा के पुरी पर कब्जा किया।

1906 काका हाथरसी के नाम से विश्व विख्यात हास्य सम्राट कहे गये हिंदी हास्य - व्यंग्य कवि प्रभु लाल गर्ग का जन्म अलीगढ़ के कस्बे हाथरस में हुआ। अनेक सम्मान और पुरस्कार प्राप्त काका की संयोग से मृत्यु भी 18 सितंबर को ही हुई, 1995 में।

1809 रॉयल थिएटर को मरम्मत के बाद भव्य बनाकर दोबारा खोला गया। यह पहले आग लगने से तहस-नहस हो गया था। दोबारा शेक्सपीयर के मैकबेथ नाटक के साथ थिएटर की ओपनिंग की गई।

1810 चिली ने स्पेन से स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की।

1812 मास्को में आग लगने से शहर का बड़ा हिस्सा तबाह हुआ और 12 हजार से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई।

1851 दुनिया के सर्वाधिक प्रतिष्ठित, विश्वसनीय अखबारों में से एक द न्यूयॉर्क टाइम्स की शुरुआत 18 सितंबर 1851 को हुई। इसकी शुरुआत न्यू यॉर्क डेली टाइम्स नाम से हुई थी। पत्रकार और नेता हेनरी जार्विस रेमंड और पूर्व बैंकर जॉर्ज जोन्स ने इसकी शुरुआत की। टाइम्स को पहले रेमंड, जोन्स एंड कंपनी प्रकाशित करती थी। अखबार ने खुद को बौद्धिक पाठकों का बताते हुए खुद को आम लोगों से दूर रखा। इस कारण पेपर की बिक्री कम होती थी और इसे बेचना पड़ा। 1896 में जब द न्यूयॉर्क टाइम्स को एडॉल्फ साइमन ने खरीदा, तब यह हर हफ्ते एक हजार डॉलर के घाटे में चल रहा था। एडॉल्फ ने द न्यूयॉर्क टाइम्स की संपादकीय नीति में बदलाव किया, कवरेज को बेहतर किया, रविवारीय पत्रिका की शुरुआत की और कीमत भी कम की। यह अखबार दुनिया भर में अपनी निष्पक्ष और प्रखर पत्रकारिता के लिए जाना जाता है। इसी अखबार ने सबसे वजनी अखबार होने का विश्व कीर्तिमान स्थापित किया, एक अंक 3.5 किलो का।

1883 ब्रिटिश अफसर विलिय हट्ट कर्जन विली को मौत के घाट उतारने वाले क्रांतिकारी, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी मदन लाल ढींगड़ा जन्म अमृतसर में हुआ। इन्हें अंग्रेज सरकार ने लंदन की पेंटनविले जेल में 17 अगस्त 1909 को फांसी पर चढ़ा दिया।

1895 जाम साहब या नवानगर गुजरात के महाराजा दिग्विजयसिंहजी रंजीतसिंहजी जडेजा का जन्म हुआ।

1899 बांग्ला भाषा के प्रसिद्ध लेखक और बंगाली पुनर्जागरण काल के हिंदुत्ववादी चिंतकों में से एक राजनारायण बोस या राजनाराण बसु का निधन मिदनापुर में हुआ।

1905 नीदरलैंड के रोटरडम शहर में विद्युत ट्रामलाइन की शुरुआत हुई।

1900 मॉरीशस के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री, प्रधानमंत्री एवं छठे गवर्नर-जनरल हुए शिवसागर रामगुलाम का जन्म हुआ।

1915 मूल अमेरिकी ओमाहा जनजाति की पहली चिकित्सक, समाज सुधारक, शिक्षिका सुसान ला फ्लेश पिकोटे का निधन वाल्थिल, नेब्रास्का में हुआ। मेडिकल डिग्री हासिल करने वाली पहली स्वदेशी महिला बनीं।

1919 हॉलैंड में महिलाओं को मतदान का अधिकार मिला।

1922 हंगरी लीग ऑफ नेशंस में शामिल हुआ।

1923 न्यूयार्क में समाचार पत्र प्रकाशकों की हड़ताल हुई जो 23 सितंबर तक चली।

1926 अमेरिका के मियामी में चक्रवाती तूफान से 250 लोगों की मौत।

1931 प्रख्यात हिंदी कथाकार, गीतकार, समीक्षक और राजनीतिज्ञ श्रीकांत वर्मा का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जापान की सेना ने पूर्वोत्तरी चीन स्थित मन्चूरी के क्षेत्र पर कब्जा कर लिया। यह कब्जा चीन और जापान के बीच दूसरे युद्ध का कारण बना। जापानियों ने मंचूरी पर नियंत्रण के पश्चात वहॉ मेन्टको की पिटठू सरकार स्थापित कर दी।

1947 राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा अधिनियम पारित हुआ। 1947 अमेरिका में वायु सेना का गठन हुआ।

1950 हिंदी फिल्मों की प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री, माॅडल और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता शबाना आजमी का जन्म हुआ।

1957 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी सारंगधर दास का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के बाद राजनीति में आई और लोकसभा की प्रथम महिला महासचिव हुईं स्नेहलता श्रीवास्तव का जन्म हुआ।

1958 भारत रत्न से सम्मानित स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, समाज सेवी और शिक्षा शास्त्री भगवान दास का निधन हुआ।

1960 शीर्ष क्यूबाई नेता, समाजवादी क्रांति के नेतृत्वकर्ता, लेखक, वक्ता, प्रशासक फिदेल कास्त्रो संयुक्त राष्ट्र में क्यूबा के प्रतिनिधिमंडल के प्रमुख के रूप में न्यूयॉर्क शहर पहुंचे।

1961 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव डैग हैमरस्कजॉल्ड की कांगो लोकतांत्रिक गणराज्य के कटंगा क्षेत्र में शांति वार्ता का प्रयास करते समय एक हवाई दुर्घटना में मृत्यु हो गई।

1962 तमिलनाडु के तंबरम में खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय तमिल और मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल निशा नूर का जन्म हुआ। कमल हासन सहित तमाम फिल्मकारों ने उन्हें लोकप्रिय फिल्में बनाईं। जवानी ढलने पर उन्हें काम मिलना बंद हो गया और उन्हें वेश्यावृत्ति करनी पड़ी। गुमनामी और बेहोशी की हालत में उन्हें एक दिन एक दरगाह के पास पड़ा पाया गया। उनके शरीर पर कीड़े रेंग रहे थे। अस्पताल में भर्ती कराने पर पता चला कि नूर को एड्स था। 23 अप्रैल 2007 को निशा नूर इस दुनिया से कूच कर गईं।

1967 नागालैंड ने अंग्रेजी को आधिकारिक भाषा के रूप में अपनाया।

1978 अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति जिमी कार्टर की मध्यस्थता में मिस्र के राष्ट्रपति अनवर अल सादत और इसरायल के प्रधानमंत्री मेनाकेम बेगिन शांति के लिए राजी हुए।

1979 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय अभिनेता विनय राय का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने शेफ और रेस्त्रां कारोबारी कुणाल कपूर का जन्म हुआ। 

1980 लोकप्रि अमेरिकी पत्रकार, निबंधकार, लघु कथाकार, उपन्यासकार, कवि और राजनीतिक कार्यकत्री कैथरीन अन्ने पोर्टर का मैरीलैंड में निधन हुआ। उनका 1962 में प्रकाशित उपन्यास शिप ऑफ फूल्स उस वर्ष अमेरिका में सबसे अधिक बिकने वाला उपन्यास था। 

1981 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, गायिका, परोपकारी, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता, हास्य फिल्म ब्रिंग इट आन - इन इट टू विन इट से खासी लोकप्रियता हासिल करने वाली जेनिफर टिस्डेल केली का जन्म नेप्च्यून सिटी, न्यू जर्सी में हुआ।

1986 हिंदी, मराठी की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड सुपरिचित फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल प्रिया बापट का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन मुम्बई से पहली बार भारतीय महिला चालकों ने जेट विमान उड़ाया।

1987 अमेरिका और सोवियत संघ ने मध्यम दूरी के मिसाइल को हटाने के लिये हस्ताक्षर किये।

1988 बर्मा ने अपना संविधान रद्द किया।

1989 जानी मानी भारतीय बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी अश्विनी पोनप्पा मछिमंदा का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1990 नंदिनी राय के नाम से सुपरिचित मिस आंध्र प्रदेश 2010 विजेता, तेलुगू फिल्मों की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल नीलम गौहरानी का जन्म सिकंदराबाद में हुआ।

1992 भारत के पहले मुस्लिम मुख्य न्यायाधीश तथा करीब 35 दिन के लिए जो भारत के प्रथम कार्यवाहक राष्ट्रपति भी रहे मुहम्मद हिदायतुल्लाह का निधन हुआ।

1993 फेमिना मिस इंडिया 2015 विजेता, माॅडल, अभिनेत्री एवं रिसर्च एनालिस्ट अदिति आर्या का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1994 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल रुहानी शर्मा का जन्म सोलन, हिमाचल प्रदेश में हुआ।

1997 अमेरिका ने होलोग नाम से भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किया,

2001 अमेरिका में जन्मे प्रसिद्ध कनाडाई बच्चों के मनोरंजनकर्ता, लोकप्रिय कनाडाई टेलीविजन श्रृंखला मिस्टर ड्रेसअप के प्रस्तोता अर्नेस्ट एर्नी आर्थर कॉम्ब्स का निधन हुआ।

2002 गैंगस्टर अबू सलेम को पुर्तगाल में गिरफ्तार किया गया था। सलेम पर देश में कई हत्याओं, एक्सटॉर्शन के केस दर्ज थे।

2003 बांग्लादेश - भारत के बीच यातायात के लिए ढाका-अगरतला बस सेवा शुरू। विश्व जल निगरानी दिवस मनाने का प्रस्ताव जुलाई 2006 में जल पर्यावरण महासंघ (डब्ल्यूईएफ) पारित किया। विश्व जल निगरानी दिवस (डब्ल्यूडब्ल्यूएमडी) एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय आउटरीच कार्यक्रम है जो दुनिया भर में जल संसाधनों की सुरक्षा में सार्वजनिक जागरूकता और भागीदारी पैदा करता है। प्रतिवर्ष 18 सितंबर से 18 अक्टूबर के बीच आयोजित होने वाला यह कार्यक्रम समुदायों को स्थानीय नदियों, नालों, मुहल्लों और अन्य जल निकायों की स्थिति की निगरानी में शामिल करता है। 2002 में संगठन की स्थापना के बाद से, 50 देशों में 80,000 से अधिक लोगों ने भाग लिया है। विश्व जल निगरानी दिवस 2003 में अमेरिका के क्लीन वॉटर फाउंडेशन द्वारा एक वैश्विक शैक्षिक आउटरीच कार्यक्रम के रूप में स्थापित एक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस बन गया।
