1370 रोमन सम्राट चार्ल्स चतुर्थ ने कार्लोवी वेरी को शहर के विशेषाधिकार प्रदान किए।

1385 1383-85 के पुर्तगाली संकट के दौरान अलजुबरोटा की लड़ाई में पुर्तगाल के जॉन प्रथम के अधिकार संभाले और इसके बाद पुर्तगाली सेना ने कैस्टिले के जॉन प्रथम की कैस्टिलियन सेना को हराया।

1936 बर्लिन, जर्मनी में पहला ओलम्पिक बास्केटबॉल खेल हुआ।

1938 ब्रिटिश ब्राडकास्टिंग कारपोरेशन बीबीसी की पहली फीचर फिल्म स्टूडेंट ऑफ प्राग टेलीविजन पर प्रसारित हुई।

1939 पोलैंड पर नाजी जर्मनी के आक्रमण के साथ ही आरंभ होने वाला यह विश्व युद्ध जापान में समाप्त हो गया।

1941 ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री विंस्टन चर्चिल और अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति फ्रैंकलिन डेलानो रूजवेल्ट के बीच कई दिनों तक चलने वाली एक उच्च-स्तरीय बैठक हुई। 1941 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध राजस्थानी कवि तथा स्वतंत्रता सेनानी केसरी सिंह बारहट का निधन हुआ

1945 दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जापान, घटक देशों के सामने हथियार डालने को मजबूर हुआ। अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति हैरी एस. ट्रूमैन ने घोषणा की कि इंपीरियल जापान ने बिना शर्त आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया है, जिससे द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध समाप्त हो गया है। 1945 में इसी दिन स्टीव मार्टिन, अमेरिकी अभिनेता, हास्य अभिनेता, संगीतकार, निर्माता और पटकथा लेखक का निधन हुआ।

1947 पाकिस्तान भारत बंटवारे में सत्ता का हस्तांतरण 14 अगस्त मध्यरात्री को हुआ था। पाकिस्तान अपना स्वतंत्रता दिवस 14 अगस्त को मनाता है और भारत अपना स्वतंत्रता दिवस 15 अगस्त को मनाता है। पाकिस्तान में अग्रणी नेता मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना हुए और भारत में पं. जवाहर लाल नेहरू।

1945 मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना पाकिस्तान के पहले गवर्नर जनरल बने।

1948 रामपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश के बहुचर्चित राजनेता, मुलायम सिंह यादव के सहयोगी और समाजवादी पार्टी के प्रमुख नेता मोहम्मद आजम खान का जन्म हुआ।

1956 भारतीय हिंदी हास्य फिल्म अभिनेता जॉनी लीवर का जन्म हुआ।

1961 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता मोहनीश बहल का जन्म हुआ।

1965 21वीं सदी के पहले ऐसे अपराधी जिसे फांसी दी गई, धनंजाॅय चटर्जी का जन्म पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ। धनंजाॅय के जन्मदिन पर ही उसे 2004 में 14 अगस्त को फांसी पर लटका दिया गया। वह 15 वर्षीय छात्रा हेतल पारेख के बलात्कार और पीड़िता की हत्या का अपराधी हुआ।

1967 जाने माने भारतीय अमेरिकी वामपंथी इतिहासकार, कमेंटेटर प्रोफेसर विजय प्रशाद का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1968 भारतीय राजनेता मोरारजी देसाई को पाकिस्तान के सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान निशान-ए-पाकिस्तान से सम्मानित किए गए। इसी दिन भारतीय क्रिकेटर प्रवीण आमरे का जन्म हुआ।

1971 बहरीन को 110 वर्ष के बाद ब्रिटिश शासन से आजादी मिली।

1975 पाकिस्तानी सेना ने राष्ट्रपति मुजीब उर-रहमान का तख्तापलट किया।

1979 दादा साहेब फाल्के एक्सीलेंसी अवार्ड प्राप्त बेहद बोल्ड, खूबसूरत माॅडल, फिल्म अभिनेत्री, फिल्म निर्मात्री, गायिका और कारोबारी साथ ही सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता पूनम झावर का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1980 लेख वलेंसा के नेतृत्व में ग्दांस्क शिपयार्ड में मजदूरों ने ऐतिहासिक हड़ताल की।

1982 सुचित्रा के नाम से मशहूर रेडियो जाॅकी, गायिका, गीत लेखिका, संगीतज्ञ, स्वर कलाकार, वाॅयस डबिंग आर्टिस्ट सुचित्रा रामादुरई का जन्म मद्रास / चेन्नई में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय पुरुष माॅडल, फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता मोहित रैना का जन्म जम्मू में हुआ।

1983 जानी मानी गायिका सुनिधि चौहान का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। सुनिधि हिंदी गीतों के लिए लोकप्रिय है। उन्होंने मराठी, कन्नड़, तमिल, तेलुगु, बंगाली, असमिया और गुजराती फिल्मों में भी 2000 से अधिक गीत गाए हैं। सुनिधि ने गायन की शुरुआत चार वर्ष की आयु से की और एक स्थानीय टीवी मेजबान ने उनकी इस प्रतिभा को देखा। 1883 में इसी दिन कन्नड़ फिल्मों की बोल्ड, चर्चित अभिनेत्री और माॅडल जेनिफर कोतवाल का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1984 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय कुश्ती खिलाड़ी खाशाबा जाधव का निधन हुआ।

1986 पाकिस्तान के सेना प्रमुख से राष्ट्रपति बने जिया उल हक ने बेनजीर भुट्टो को गिरफ्तार कर जेल भिजवा दिया।

1987 सीमांत गांधी और खुदाई खिदमतगार कहे गये खान अब्दुल गफ्फार खान को भारत रत्न से सम्मानित किया गया।

1988 भारत के दसवें मुख्य न्यायाधीश कैलाश नाथ वांचू का निधन हुआ।

1996 प्रख्यात हिंदी कथा सम्राट प्रेमचंद के बेटे प्रसिद्ध उपन्यासकार, निबंधकार, समीक्षक तथा अनुवादक अमृतराय का निधन हुआ।

2000 भारत के प्रमुख मुक्केबाज हवा सिंह का निधन हुआ।

2001 मेसेडोनिया सरकार व अल्बानियाई विद्रोहियों में समझौता हुआ। ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता के लिए लड़ रही आयरिश रिपब्लिकन आर्मी ने निशस्त्रीकरण से इन्कार किया।

2002 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ ने भारत के जम्मू कश्मीर के चुनावों को ढोंग करार दिया।

2003 पूर्वी अमेरिका और कनाडा में लंबे समय के लिए बिजली की सप्लाई नहीं रही जिसका असर न्यूयॉर्क और ओटावा जैसे बड़े शहरों पर भी पड़ा।

2006 संयुक्त राष्ट्र की पहल पर इस्रायल और दक्षिणी लेबनान में पांच सप्ताह से जारी संघर्ष थमा। इसी दिन 2006 आधिकारिक तौर पर प्लूटो को ग्रह नहीं मानने की घोषणा की गई। इसी दिन इराक के कहतानिया में बमबारी में 400 से अधिक लोग मारे गये।

2007 पाकिस्तानी राष्ट्राध्यक्ष जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ एवं पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी अध्यक्ष पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री बेनजीर के मध्य समझौता हुआ। 2007 में इसी दिन दुनिया की सर्वाधिक उम्रदराज जापान की महिला येनो मीनागावा का निधन हुआ

2010 भारत सरकार ने 64वें स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर काबुल में शहीद हुए सेना चिकित्सा कोर के मेजर एल ज्योतिन सिंह को अशोक चक्र तथा विनोद चौबे और मेजर दविंद्र सिंह जस को कीर्ति चक्र प्रदान करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने बताया कि कि नाइजीरिया के इतिहास में 2005 से भी बदतर भूख संकट है, जिसने हजारों भूख से मर गये।

2011 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेता शम्मी कपूर का निधन हुआ।

2012 महाराष्ट्र के प्रमुख राजनेता एवं मुख्यमंत्री रहे विलासराव देशमुख का निधन हुआ

2013 मिस्र में पुलिस और प्रदर्शनकारियों के बीच हिंसक झड़प में 638 लोग मारे गये। मिस्र ने आपातकाल की घोषणा की क्योंकि सुरक्षा बलों ने पूर्व राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद मुर्सी का समर्थन करने वाले सैकड़ों प्रदर्शनकारियों को मार डाला।

2014 प्रतिष्ठित अमेरिकी पत्रकार और अकादमिक, मोमेंट मैगजीन के सह-संस्थापक लियोनार्ड फीन का निधन हुआ।

2015 क्यूबा राजधानी हवाना में अमेरिकी दूतावास 54 वर्षों तक बंद रहने के बाद फिर से खुला, जब क्यूबा-संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के संबंध टूट गए थे।

2017 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय कवि एवं साहित्यकार चंद्रकांत देवताले का निधन हुआ।

2020 जूलियन ब्रीम, अंग्रेजी शास्त्रीय गिटारवादक और ल्यूटेनिस्ट, एंजेला बक्सटन, ब्रिटिश टेनिस खिलाड़ी और जेम्स आर. थॉम्पसन, अमेरिकी राजनीतिज्ञ, इलिनोइस के गवर्नर का निधन हुआ।

2021 दक्षिण-पश्चिमी हैती में 7.2 तीव्रता का भूकंप आया, जिसमें कम से कम 2,248 लोग मारे गए और अरबों डालर की संपत्ति नष्ट हुई। 2021 में इसी दिन माइकल आंग-थ्विन, अमेरिकी इतिहासकार, बर्मी और दक्षिण पूर्व एशियाई इतिहास के विद्वान का निधन हुआ।

2022 आर्मेनिया में हुए एक विस्फोट से एक बाजार नष्ट हो गया जिसमें छह लोग मारे गए और दर्जनों घायल हो गए।

2022 कांग्रेस ने आरोप लगाया कि 14 अगस्त के दिन विभाजन विभीषिका स्मृति दिवस मनाने के पीछे प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की वास्तविक मंशा सबसे दुखद ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं को अपने राजनीतिक लाभ के लिए इस्तेमाल करने की है। कांग्रेस महासचिव (संचार) जयराम रमेश ने कहा कि विभाजन की त्रासदी का इस्तेमाल नफरत और पूर्वाग्रह की भावना को भड़काने के लिए नहीं होना चाहिए। मालूम हो कि प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने पिछले साल घोषणा की थी कि लोगों के संघर्ष और बलिदान की याद में 14 अगस्त के दिन विभाजन विभीषिका स्मृति दिवस मनाया जाएगा। रमेश ने ट्वीट किया, सच यह है कि सावरकर ने द्वि-राष्ट्र का सिद्धांत दिया और जिन्ना ने इसे आगे बढ़ाया। पटेल ने लिखा था कि मुझे लगता है कि अगर विभाजन स्वीकार नहीं किया गया, तो भारत कई टुकड़ों में बंट जाएगा। कांग्रेस नेता ने पूछा, क्या प्रधानमंत्री आज जनसंघ के संस्थापक श्यामा प्रसाद मुखर्जी को भी याद करेंगे, जिन्होंने शरत चंद्र बोस की इच्छा के खिलाफ बंगाल के विभाजन का समर्थन किया था और वह तब स्वतंत्र भारत की पहली कैबिनेट में शामिल हुए थे, जब विभाजन के दर्दनाक परिणाम स्पष्ट रूप से सामने आ रहे थे? रमेश ने ट्वीट किया, देश को बांटने के लिए आधुनिक दौर के सावरकर और जिन्ना का प्रयास आज भी जारी है। भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस गांधी, नेहरू, पटेल और अन्य नेताओं की विरासत को आगे बढ़ाते हुए राष्ट्र को एकजुट करने का प्रयास जारी रखेगी। नफरत की राजनीति हारेगी।

1968 Indian politician Morarji Desai was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan, Pakistan's highest civilian honour. Indian cricketer Pravin Amre was born on this day.

1971 Bahrain gained independence from British rule after 110 years.
