1981 दिल्ली में आम आदमी पार्टी की जानी-मानी महिला राजनीतिज्ञ और विधायक आतिशी का जन्म हुआ।

1982 ब्राजील के विमान बी-727 दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से तकरीबन 130 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1986 इराकी जेट वायुयान ने असादाबाद उपग्रह स्टेशन पर हमला किया।

2008 दक्षिणी सोमालिया में आतंकवादियों ने ब्रिटिश ब्राडकास्टिंग कारपोरेशन बीबीसी के एक स्थानीय पत्रकार की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी। इसी दिन उत्तर प्रदेश के मछली पालन मंत्री जमुना निषाद को मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने बर्खास्त किया। 

2009 मशहूर पटकथा लेखक, नाट्य निर्देशक, कवि और अभिनेता हबीब तनवीर का निधन हुआ। आगरा बाजार और चरणदास चोर जैसे कई प्रसिद्ध नाटकों तनवीर ने रचना की। 2009 में ही इसी दिन महासागरों के महत्व और उससे संबंधित विषयों खाद्य सुरक्षा, जैव विविधता, पारिस्थितिकि संतुलन आदि की ओर राजनीतिक और सामाजिक ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा विश्व महासागर दिवस 8 जून को मनाने की घोषणा की।

2010 ब्रेन ट्यूमर के बारे में समझ और जागरुकता बढ़ाने के लिए प्रतिवर्ष 8 जून को विश्व ब्रेन ट्यूमर दिवस मनाया जाता है। ब्रेन ट्यूमर दुनिया भर में चौथी सबसे गंभीर और व्यापक बीमारी है। अनुमान है कि 2030 तक ब्रेन ट्यूमर स्किन कैंसर को पार कर के कैंसर का दूसरा सबसे प्रचलित रूप बन सकता है। वर्ल्ड ब्रेन ट्यूमर डे मनाने की शुरुआत 2000 के दशक से हुई जब जर्मन ब्रेन ट्यूमर एसोसिएशन ने ब्रेन ट्यूमर के बारे में जागरुकता बढ़ाने के लिए एक अभियान शुरू किया। 2000 में एसोसिएशन ने 8 मई को जर्मन ब्रेन ट्यूमर डे घोषित किया। इसका उद्देश्य रोगियों और उनके परिवारों के सामने आने वाली चुनौतियों के बारे में आम लोगों को सूचित करना था। बाद में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मान्यता प्राप्त हुई और ब्रेन ट्यूमर के प्रति जागरुकता बढ़ाने के लिए एक वैश्विक दिवस के रूप में इसे स्थापित करने पर जोर दिया गया। सन 2010 में इंटरनेशनल ब्रेन ट्यूमर एलायंस ने 8 जून को विश्व ब्रेन ट्यूमर दिवस नामित किया था। इंटरनेशनल ब्रेन ट्यूमर एलायंस दुनिया भर के ब्रेन ट्यूमर के प्रति जागरुक करने वाले समूहों को एक साथ लाता है। वर्ल्ड ब्रेन ट्यूमर डे को मनाने का महत्व और मकसद ब्रेन ट्यूमर के बारे में वैश्विक स्तर पर जागरुकता फैलाना है। यह दिन एक मंच के रूप में काम करता है, जब लोग खुलकर इस बीमारी के प्रति अपने विचारों और सुझावों जानकारियों का आदान-प्रदान करते हैं। रोगियों और उनके परिवारों के सामने आने वाली चुनौतियों को भी उजागर करना है। इसके अलावा ट्यूमर की शुरुआती पहचान के बारे में जानकारी देना, शोधों-अध्ययनों को बढ़ावा देना और लोगों तक बेहतर इलाज पहुंचाना भी इस दिन का मकसद है।

2012 जाने माने दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म निर्देशक, लेखक, संपादक के.एस.आर. कोंडा का निधन हुआ। कोंडा ने दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं, मुख्य रूप से तेलुगु और कन्नड़ में कई ब्लॉकबस्टर फिल्मों का निर्देशन किया। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान में एक बस में हुये बम धमाके में 18 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 35 अन्य घायल हो गये।

2013 अमेरिका की टेनिस खिलाड़ी सेरेना विलियम्स ने मारिया शारापोवा को हराकर फ्रेंच ओपन खिताब जीता।

2014 रूस की टेनिस खिलाड़ी मारिया शारापोवा ने सिमोना हालेप को हराकर फ्रेंच ओपन खिताब जीता।

2010 World Brain Tumor Day is observed annually on 8 June to increase understanding and awareness of brain tumours. Brain tumor is the fourth most serious and widespread disease worldwide. It is estimated that by 2030, brain tumors may overtake skin cancer to become the second most common form of cancer. The celebration of World Brain Tumor Day dates back to the 2000s when the German Brain Tumor Association started a campaign to raise awareness about brain tumours.
