1345 अपने अंगरक्षकों के बिना एक नई जेल का निरीक्षण करने के दौरान बीजेंटाइन राजा एलेक्सियोस अपूकोकोस को कैदियों ने मार डाला। तुर्की तब बीजेंटाइन था।

1770 ब्रिटिश सेना के कमांडर कैप्टन जेम्स कुक ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया की ग्रेट बैरियर रीफ की खोज की। जेम्स अपने जहाज से जा रहे थे और गलती से उनका जहाज ग्रेट बैरियर रीफ पर ही चढ़ गया था।

1776 ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता का घोषणा पत्र तैयार करने के लिए अमेरिका में समिति बनी। दूसरी महाद्वीपीय कांग्रेस ने थॉमस जेफरसन, जॉन एडम्स, बेंजामिन फ्रैंकलिन, रोजर शेरमन और रॉबर्ट आर लिविंगस्टोन्टो को स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा के लिए पांच समिति की नियुक्ति के लिए नियुक्त किया।

1815 विश्व विख्यात ब्रिटिश फोटोग्राफर जूलिया मार्गरेट कैमरन का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1866 इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना हुई जो पहले आगरा उच्च न्यायालय के नाम प्राख्यात जाना जाता था। पहले से स्थापित एक अदालत से आगरा से ही हाई कोर्ट स्तर का कार्य होता रहा। इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना के बाद इस स्तर के मामले और न्यायालय प्रशासन इलाहाबाद स्थानांतरित किया गया। 

1880 अमेरिका की पहली संसद सदस्य रैफिन का जन्म हुआ।

1897 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रांतिकारी, कवि, सामाजिक एवं राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ता, हिंदुस्तान रिपब्लिक एसोसिएशन के सहसंस्थापक पं. राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल का जन्म हुआ।

1909 प्रतिष्ठित भारतीय विधिवेत्ता, राजनीतिज्ञ और लोकसभा अध्यक्ष के.एस. हेगड़े का जन्म हुआ।

1911 प्रख्यात ब्रिटिश गिटार वादक ग्रेम रसेल का जन्म हुआ।

1921 महिलाओं को ब्राजील में चुनाव में मतदान करने का अधिकार दिया गया।

1924 सुप्रसिद्ध मराठी इतिहासकार कवि, नाटककार और जीवनी लेखक वासुदेव वामन शास्त्री खरे का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन लाहौर, पाकिस्तान की धरती पर अख्तर अब्दुर रहमान का जन्म हुआ। यह पाकिस्तान के प्रमुख सैन्य अधिकारी, जनरल और सरकारी जासूसी एजेंसी इंटर-सर्विसेज इंटेलिजेंस यानी आईएसआई के महानिदेशक रहे। 

1925 वामपंथी राजनीतिज्ञ, विचारक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के पोलित ब्यूरो सदस्य रहे एम. के. पांधे का जन्म हुआ।

1926 विख्यात ब्रिटिश चिड़ियाघर कार्यकर्ता, एस्पिनेल चिड़ियाघर के मालिक, जुआघरों के संचालक जॉन विक्टर एस्पीनेल का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1927 मिजो राष्ट्रवादी राजनेता, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता, मिजो नेशनल फ्रंट के संस्थापक और मिजोरम के मुख्यमंत्री हुए लालडेंगा का जन्म लुंगलेई में हुआ।

1935 पहली बार एफएम रेडियो का प्रसारण एडविन आर्मस्ट्रांग ने किया।

1940 मित्र देशों के खिलाफ यूरोपीय देश इटली ने लड़ाई की घोषणा की।

1948 विश्व चर्चित भारतीय राजनितिज एवं बिहार के कई बार मुख्यमंत्री और केंद्र में रेल मंत्री रहे दलितों, आदिवासियों, अल्पसंख्यकों के पक्षपोषक नेता लालू प्रसाद यादव का जन्म गोपालगंज बिहार में हुआ।

1951 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रमुख नेता, केंद्रीय पर्यटन मंत्री रहे सुबोध कांत सहाय का जन्म लातेहार, बिहार में हुआ।

1952 ब्रिटिश इंजिनियर सर क्रिस्टोफर कोकरेल ने एक वैक्युम क्लीनर की मोटर व दो छोटे-छोटे बेलनाकार डिब्बों के साथ एक प्रयोग करते हुए पहली बार यह साबित किया कि हवाई कुशन से युक्त किसी वाहन से किसी इंजिन के जरिए हवा को तेजी से पीछें फेंका जाए तो इससे उपजा दबाव वाहन कों जल या थल में भी आगे दौड़ा सकता है। इसी सिद्धांत पर आगे चलकर ब्रिटिश विमान निर्माता सॉन्डर्स रोए ने पहला व्यवहारिक होवरक्राफ्ट बनाया जो इंसान को ले जाने में सक्षम था। इसे एसआर-एन वन नाम दिया गया। पहले इसे सैन्य उपयोग हेतु निर्मित किया गया किंतु आगे चलकर में इसका आम नागरिकों के लिए भी इस्तेमाल किया जाने लगा। सन 1969 से 1961 तक इस होवरक्राफ्टको इंग्लिश चैनल पार करने समेत कई तरह के परीक्षणों से गुजारा गया। इसमें एक इंजिन लगा था और यह दो आदमियों कों ले जाने में सक्षम था। पहला विशुद्ध पैसेंजर होवरक्राफ्ट विकर्स वीए - 3 था, जिसमें दो टर्बोप्रोप इंजन लगे थे और प्रोपेलर्स के सहारे चलता था।

1955 पहले मैग्निशियम जेट हवाई जहाज ने उड़ान भरी।

1964 प्रथम भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री पं. जवाहरलाल नेहरु के अंतिम संस्कार के बाद उनके शरीर के अवशेष / राख को देश भर में बिखेरा गया, यह उन्हीं की इच्छा थी।

1965 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी स्नेहाशीष गांगुली का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। इनके भाई क्रिकेटर सौरव गांगुली विश्व प्रसिद्ध हैं।

1971 अमेरिका ने चीन पर लगे व्यापार प्रतिबंधों को खत्म कर उसके साथ दोबारा व्यापार शुरू किया।

1978 फेमिना मिस इंडिया 1996, भारत की जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड सुपर माॅडल, अभिनेत्री एवं मंच परफॉर्मर उज्जवला राउत का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1981 ईरान में आए 6.9 तीव्रता के भूकंप से करीब 2000 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1983 भारत के अग्रणी औद्योगिक समूह बी. के. के. एम. बिड़ला समूह के संस्थापक घनश्यामदास बिड़ला का निधन हुआ। 

1984 तमिल, तेलुगू और हिंदी फिल्मों के खासतौर पर दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म छायाकार नटराजन सुब्रमण्यम का जन्म हुआ।

1987 मार्गरेट थैचर लगातार तीसरी बार ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री बनीं। इसी दिन ग्रेट ब्रिटेन में डायने एबॉट, पॉल बोटेंग और बर्नी ग्रांट पहले अश्वेत सांसदों के रूप में चुने गए। डायना एबॉट हाउस ऑफ कॉमन के लिए चुनी गई पहली अश्वेत महिला बनीं।

1989 एक पांव की विकलांग भारत की प्रसिद्ध पैरा बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी मानसी जोशी का जन्म राजकोट, गुजरात में हुआ। वे विश्व की दूसरी वरीयता प्राप्त एवं एक बार की विश्व चैंपियन रह चुकी हैं।

1990 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, नृत्यांग्ना, स्टेज शो परफाॅर्मर और भोजपुरी फिल्मों की आइटम गर्ल कही गई सीमा सिंह का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन तमिलनाडु के जाने माने फिल्म संगीतज्ञ रोन एथन योहान का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1991 दिग्गज कंप्यूटर साॅफ्टवेयर, तकनीकी कंपनी माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने एमएस-डाॅस 5.0 रिलीज किया।

1997 लंबी दूरी के भारत के प्रसिद्ध तैराक मिहिर सेन का निधन हुआ।

2001 एक संघीय इमारत पर 1995 में बम फेंकने वाले टिमोथी मैग्वेग को अमेरिका के ओकलाहोमा शहर में मौत की सजा सुनाई गयी।

2003 रूस की विश्व प्रसिद्ध महिला टेनिस खिलाड़ी ऐना सर्जेइयेव्ना कोर्निकोवा महिला टेनिस की सबसे सुंदर खिलाड़ी घोषित की गई। कोर्निकोवा ने बाद में माॅडलिंग और टेलीविजन शो भी किये।

2006 नेपाली संसद ने आम राय से नरेश के वीटो के अधिकार को खत्म किया।

2007 फिजी के अपदस्थ प्रधानमंत्री लाइसेनिया करासे को राजधानी सुवा में प्रवेश की अनुमति मिली।

2008 ब्रह्मोस सुपरसोनिक मिसाइल को भारतीय वायुसेना में शामिल किया गया। इसी दिन उत्तर प्रदेश की मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने जमुना निषाद हटाकर धर्मराज निषाद को मंत्रीमंडल में शामिल किया। इसी दिन भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप में जेल में बंद बांग्लादेश की पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना वाजेद रिहा हुईं।

2009 डब्ल्यूएचओ विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने एच1एन1 स्वाइन फ्लू को वैश्विक महामारी घोषित किया।

2010 19वें फुटबाल विश्व कप टूर्नामेंट की मेजबानी अफ्रीका ने की। अफ्रीकी महाद्वीप में पहली बार इस प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन हुआ।

2012 उत्तरी अफगानिस्तान में दो भूकंप आए, जिससे एक गांव में हुई उथल-पुथल और भूस्खलन से 75 लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2015 सन 2009 में लगुना हिल्स, कैलिफोर्निया (अमेरिका) में स्थापित एक ऑर्गेनिक स्किनकेयर और ब्यूटी प्रोडक्ट्स कंपनी एप्रीओरी ब्यूटी की स्थापना की सालगिरह पर नैशनल मेकिंग लाइफ ब्यूटीफुल डे की शुरुआत 11 जून, 2015 को हुई। एप्रीओरी ब्यूटी प्रबंधन ने तय किया कि हमारा जीवन एक-दूसरे के सहयोग पर आधारित है, इसलिए हमें एक दूसरे का आभार प्रकट करना चाहिए, सम्मान देना चाहिए और सहयोग के लिए धन्यभागी होना चाहिए।

1911 Graeme Russell, noted British guitarist, was born.

1921 Women were given the right to vote in elections in Brazil.

1924 Vasudev Vaman Shastri Khare, noted Marathi historian, poet, dramatist and biographer, passed away. On this day, Akhtar Abdur Rehman was born on the land of Lahore, Pakistan. He was Pakistan's chief military officer, general and director general of the government spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence ie ISI.

1925 M.K. Pandhe was born.

1926 John Victor Aspinel, noted British zoo activist, owner of Aspinel Zoo, operator of casinos, was born in Delhi.

1952 British engineer Sir Christopher Cockrell, in an experiment with a vacuum cleaner motor and two small cylindrical cans, proved for the first time that air was thrown rapidly backward by an engine from a vehicle fitted with air cushions. The pressure generated by this can propel the vehicle forward in water or on land. Following this principle, the British aircraft manufacturer Saunders Roe built the first practical hovercraft capable of carrying humans. It was named SR-N One. Earlier it was manufactured for military use but later on it was also used for common citizens. From 1969 to 1961, this hovercraft went through many tests, including crossing the English Channel. It was fitted with an engine and was capable of carrying two men. The first pure passenger hovercraft was the Vickers VA-3, which was powered by two turboprop engines and propelled by propellers.

1987 Margaret Thatcher became British Prime Minister for the third time in a row. On the same day, Diane Abbott, Paul Boateng and Bernie Grant were elected as the first black MPs in Great Britain. Diana Abbott became the first black woman elected to the House of Commons.

1989 Mansi Joshi, India's famous para-badminton player with one leg amputee, was born in Rajkot, Gujarat. She has been the world's second seed and one-time world champion.

1990 Seema Singh, well-known film and television actress, dancer, stage show performer and item girl of Bhojpuri films, was born in Bombay. On this day Tamil Nadu's famous film composer Ron Ethan Yohan was born in Madras.
