1757 फ्रांसीसियों को हराकर पश्चिम बंगाल के चंद्रनगर पर लार्ड मेजर जनरल राॅबर्ट क्लाइव ने कब्जा किया। इन्हें भारत में ब्रिटिश शासन का संस्थापक माना जाता है।

1630 पिनेरोलो पिडमाउंट पर फ्रांस की सेना ने कब्जा किया।

1775 पैट्रिक हेनरी ने अमेरिकी क्रांति के दौरान अपनी मुझे स्वतंत्रता दे, या मुझे मृत्यु दे अभियान में वर्जीनिया के बर्गेस के हाउस में अहम ऐतिहासिक भाषण दिया।

1889 प्रख्यात संस्कृत कवि भट्ट मथुरानाथ शास्त्री का जन्म हुआ।

1893 भारतीय एडीसन कहे गये सुप्रसिद्ध भारतीय वैज्ञानिक, आविष्कारक, इंजीनियर और कोयंबटूर के आर्थिक सर्जक गोपालस्वामी दोरईस्वामी नायडू का जन्म तमिलनाडु के कलंगल में हुआ।

1903 राइट ब्रदर्स (आर्विट राइट और बिल्वर राइट) ने हवाई जहाज के पेटेंट का आवेदन किया था। हालांकि ये आवेदन खारिज हो गया था। एक साल बाद दोनों ने अमेरिका के ओहियो पेटेंट अटॉर्नी से आवेदन करवाया। इसके बाद 1906 में उन्हें फ्लाइंग मशीन का पेटेंट मिला।

1910 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एवं प्रख्यात समाजवादी, चिंतक और संयुक्त सोशलिस्ट पार्टी के मुखिया नेता राम मनोहर लोहिया का अकबरपुर में जन्म हुआ।

1916 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और भारत के प्रमुख वामपंथी नेता, भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी मार्क्सवादी के महासचिव रहे हरकिशन सिंह सुरजीत का जन्म बंडाला, पंजाब में हुआ।

1918 लिथुआनिया ने स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की।

1919 बर्बर तानाशाह बेनिटो मुसोलिनी ने इटली के मिलान में फासिस्ट आंदोलन की शुरुआत की।

1923 भारतीय क्रांतिकारी एवं स्वतंत्रता सेनानी हेमू कालाणी का जन्म हुआ।

1931 महान क्रांतिकारी भगत सिंह, राजगुरु और सुखदेव को ब्रिटिश भारतीय सरकार द्वारा फांसी दी गई।

1940 ऑल इंडिया मुस्लिम लीग ने मुसलमानों के लिए अलग देश की मांग की। हालांकि इससे पहले ही राष्ट्रीय स्वयं सेवक संघ के नेता विनायक दामोदर सावरकर द्विराष्ट्रवाद का सिद्धांत दे चुके थे।

1956 पाकिस्तान दुनिया का पहला इस्लामिक गणतांत्रिक देश बना।

1963 तमिल सिनेमा के विख्यात हास्य कलाकार और अभिनेता जाॅर्ज मार्यन का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1965 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी सुहासिनी गांगुली का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी सरकार की अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने पहली बार जैमिनी 3 अंतरिक्ष यान से दो अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को अंतरिक्ष में भेजा।

1972 प्रसिद्ध बाॅलीवुड फिल्मकार राजकुमार कोहली के बेटे और आज के जाने माने अभिनेता तथा माॅडल अर्मान कोहली का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन विश्व विख्यात टेनिस खिलाड़ी योनास ब्योर्कमैन का जन्म हुआ।

1973 ग्रैंडमास्टर शिफूजी शौर्य भारद्वाज का जन्म हुआ। शिफूजी जाने माने भारतीय कमांडो ट्रेनर, एक्शन डिजाइनर, एक्शन कोरियोग्राफर, मोटिवेशनल स्पीकर, अभिनेता और माॅडल हैं। ये एसएएसएस9 के संस्थापक और मुख्य प्रबंध निदेशक साथ ही मिशन प्रहार के संस्थापक ट्रस्टी हैं। इसी दिन विख्यात इस्लामी, कश्मीरी अलगाववादी राजनेता मीरवाइज मोहम्मद उमर फारूख का जन्म श्रीनगर में हुआ।

1976 जानी मानी बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री रहीं और माॅडल भारतीय जनता पार्टी महिला नेत्री स्मृति जुबिन इरानी का जन्म हुआ।

1979 हिंदी, मलयालम, तमिल, तेलुगू आदि विविध भाषाओं की फिल्मों के गीत गाने वाले विजय येसुदास का मद्रास में जन्म हुआ।

1983 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय टेलीविजन और फिल्म अभिनेत्री, नर्तकी, माॅडल श्वेता केसवानी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन 

अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति रोनाल्ड रीगन ने टीवी पर देश को संबोधित करते हुए स्ट्रैटेजिक डिफेंस इनिशिएटिव यानी स्टार वार्स का ऐलान किया। यह भविष्य में जमीन से नहीं बल्कि अंतरिक्ष से युद्ध का प्रोग्राम था। जो संभावित न्यूक्लियर अटैक से बचाव के लिए बना था। इसके बाद शीत युद्ध अपने चरम पर पहुंच गया। अमेरिका और सोवियत संघ में हथियारों की नई होड़ शुरू हो गई। दोनों देशों के रिश्ते और बिगड़ गए।

1986 केन्द्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल में महिलाओं की पहली कंपनी को प्रशिक्षित किया गया।

1987 भारत की बहुचर्चित, विवादित, भाजपा, मोदी आरएसएस की सांप्रदायिक फासीवादी विचारधारा की पोषक, प्रसारक मोदी सरकार के तानाशाही एजेंडे की वाहक फिल्म अभिनेत्री, फिल्म निर्मात्री कंगना रनौत का जन्म हिमाचल प्रदेश के मंडी जिले के भंबाला में हुआ। इसी दिन 1987 में पश्चिमी जर्मनी के एक ब्रितानी सैनिक ठिकाने में हुए कार बम हमले में लगभग 30 लोग घायल हुए।

1988 बहुप्रतिष्ठित क्रांतिकारी पंजाबी कवि अवतार सिंह संधू पाश का निधन हुआ। उनकी जालंधर में हत्या खालिस्तानी आतंकवादियों ने की।़ अवतार सिंह पाश उन चंद इंकलाबी शायरो में से है, जिन्होंने अपनी छोटी सी जिन्दगी में बहुत कम लिखी क्रान्तिकारी शायरी द्वारा पंजाब में ही नहीं सम्पूर्ण भारत में जनचेतना की एक नई अलख जगाई।

1989 महाभारत धारावाहिक में धृतराष्ट्र का किरदार निभाने वाले, बाॅडी बिल्डर क्षेत्र में थाइलैंड में स्वर्ण पदक जीतने वाले जाने माने बाॅलीवुड अभिनेता एवं माॅडल ठाकुर अनूप सिंह का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1992 भारत के पाँचवें लोकसभा अध्यक्ष गुरदयाल सिंह ढिल्लों का निधन हुआ।

1995 प्रोफेशनल चेस एसोसियेशन कैंडीडेट्स के फाइनल शृंखला विख्यात भारतीय शतरंज खिलाड़ी विश्वनाथन आनंद ने जीती। इसी दिन 1995 में विश्व व्यापार संगठन के पहले महानिदेशक के पद पर रैनटो रूगीएरो को नियुक्त किया गया।

2001 रूस का अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन मीर आसमान से गिरकर समुद्र में समा गया।

2003 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में वाडरर्स में हुए विश्व कप क्रिकेट के फाइनल में ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने भारत को 125 रनों से हराकर विश्व कप पर कब्जा किया।

2006 ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने तस्करी के आरोप में उत्तरी कोरिया के जहाज पोंस गू को डुबोया।

2008 भारत ने जमीन से जमीन पर मार करने वाली मिसाइल अग्नि-1 का सफल परीक्षण किया। अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों राबर्ट वेनकेन और साइक फोरमैन ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन की मरम्मत के लिए अंतिम स्पेसवॉक किया। नासा ने पृथ्वी से 7.5 अरब प्रकाश वर्ष की दूरी पर हुए एक अंतरिक्ष विस्फोट को देखा।

2010 विख्यात भारतीय वामपंथी, जुझारू माओवादी नक्सल नेता, आॅल इंडिया कोआॅर्डिनेशन कमेटी आॅफ कम्युनिस्ट रेवोल्यूशरी के मुखिया कानू सान्याल का निधन सिलीगुड़ी में हुआ।

2011 हॉलीवुड एक्ट्रेस एलिजाबेथ टेलर का निधन हुआ। उन्होंने फादर ऑफ द ब्राइड, अ प्लेस इन द सन, रेन ट्री कंट्री, हू इज अफ्रेड ऑफ वर्जीनिया वूल्फ, सडेनली लास्ट समर, द अपार्टमेंट, क्लियोपेट्रा जैसी अनेक विश्व चर्चित फिल्मों में शानदार अभिनय किया।

2012 प्रमुख भारतीय क्रिकेटर सचिन तेंदुलकर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में 100 शतकों का कीर्तिमान स्थापित किया।

2014 यूरोपीय संघ और अमेरिका ने रूस पर प्रतिबंध लगाए।

2015 सिंगापुर के प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री ली क्वान यू का निधन हुआ।

1832 The Administrative Reforms Bill was passed in the Parliament of Britain.

1836 Franklin Bell of America invented the coin printing press or mint.

1857 The first commercial elevator was installed in a department store in New York. It was planted by American inventor Elisha Otis.

1880 Basanti Devi, famous Indian freedom fighter, was born in Bengal. Basanti Devi was the wife of noted freedom fighter Chittaranjan Das. Basanti actively participated in social and political activities.
