1468 जोहान्स गुटेनबर्ग का निधन हुआ। जर्मन आविष्कारक जोहान्स गुटेनबर्ग ने सन 1439 में प्रिंटिंग प्रेस बना ली थी। जब उन्होंने कागज पर छपाई चालू की तो सबसे पहले बड़े काम के रूप में उन्होंने बाइबल छापी। गुटेनबर्ग द्वारा मुद्रित यह किताब गुटेनबर्ग बाइबल के नाम से विख्यात है। गुटेनबर्ग की प्रिंटिंग प्रेस के कारण ही किताबें और अन्य मुद्रित सामग्री का प्रसार अधिक हुआ। इसलिए उन्हें शहस्त्राब्दी के शिखर पुरुष के रूप में चुना गया।

1503 पुर्तगालियों तथा उस्मानों (तुर्कों) के मध्य दीव की लड़ाई भारत के दीव (गोवा, दमन और दीव) में हुई।

1703 एक भूकंप लाकिला से इटली के शहर में 3,000 लोग मारे गए और कई इमारतों को भारी नुकसान हुआ।

1740 नेपल्स के राजा चार्ल्स डी बोरबॉन ने सिसिली लौटने के लिए यहूदियों को आमंत्रित किया।

1743 फिलाडेल्फिया आप्रवासियों को संगरोध के लिए एक पेस्टहाउस स्थापित किया गया।

1760 सदाशिव राव भाऊ के नेतृत्व में मराठा सेना ने उदगीर के युद्ध में निजाम हैदराबाद को हराया।

1815 पनीर उत्पादन का दुनिया में पहला कारखाना स्विटजरलैंड में खोला गया।

1816 सिखों में नामधारी संप्रदाय के संस्थापक राम सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1886 इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट के मशहूर जज हुए शाह मोहम्मद सुलेमान का जन्म जौनपुर जिले में हुआ। 

1905 पाकिस्तान के बहुप्रतिष्ठित राजनेता, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता नवाब बहादुर यार जंग का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ।

1906 बाबा या सिंबा के नाम से मशहूर केन्या के विख्यात वन संपदा संरक्षणवादी जाॅर्ज एलेक्जेंडर ग्राहम एडमसन का जन्म इटावा, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1909 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी सुहासिनी गांगुली का जन्म हुआ।

1915 स्वेज नहर पर प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जर्मनी और उसमानी शासन की संयुक्त सेनाओं ने मिलकर हमला किया। स्वेज नहर उस समय ब्रिटेन के नियंत्रण में थी। इसी दिन वाराणसी में बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय की शुरुआत हुयी।

1925 मुम्बई से कुर्ला के बीच भारत की पहली बिजली चालित रेलगाड़ी का परिचालन शुरु हुआ।

1934 पहली बार हवाई जहाजों से पार्सल भेजने का काम फ्रांसीसी विमान कंपनी लुफ्थांसा ने शुरु किया।

1938 भारत की बहुमुखी प्रतिभा की धनी मशहूर, लोकप्रिय फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल वहीदा रहमान का जन्म हुआ। इन्हें तमाम पुरस्कार, सम्मानों के साथ भारत सरकार के पद्मश्री तथा पद्मविभूषण सम्मान भी मिले।

1942 जावा पर जापान ने हवाई हमला किया।

1943 जर्मनी और पूर्व सोवियत संघ के बीच स्तालिनग्राद युद्ध खत्म हुआ।

1945 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध में जापान के खिलाफ मोर्चे में रूस शामिल होने पर सहमत हुआ।

1947 उच्चतम न्यायालय में जज और पश्चिम बंगाल में मानवाधिकार आयोग के अध्यक्ष रहे न्यायाधीश अशोक कुमार गांगुली का जन्म हुआ।

1951 सबसे पहले अलग पाकिस्तान की मांग करने वाले चौ. रहमत अली का इंतकाल हुआ।

1952 कलात्मक, अर्थपूर्ण सिनेमा में अपने सशक्त अभिनय से खास पहचान बनाने वाली लोकप्रिय भारतीय हिंदी एवं अमेरिकन फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल दीप्ति नवल का जन्म अमृतसर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1954 जाने माने भारतीय वैज्ञानिक कृष्णास्वामी विजयराघवन का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ। इसी दिन 1954 में कुंभ मेले के दौरान मची भगदड़ में लगभग 500 से अधिक लोगों की जान गयी। इलाहाबाद स्थित संगम के तट पर कुंभ मेले का आयोजन हुआ था। आजादी के बाद ये पहला कुंभ था, जिसमें लाखों लोग शामिल हुए थे। 1954 के कुंभ मेले में मची भगदड़ में सैकड़ों लोग मारे गए थे। माना जाता है कि कुंभ मेले में हाथी भड़क गया था, जिस वजह से भगदड़ मच गई थी। इसके बाद से कुंभ मेले में हाथियों उपयोग बंद कर दिया गया। इसी दिन 1954 में इंग्लैंड की महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय ऑस्ट्रेलिया का दौरा करने वाली पहली साम्राज्ञी बनीं। एक समय ऑस्ट्रेलिया ब्रिटेन का उपनिवेश था।

1958 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत,बोल्ड हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल रीमा लागू का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन बेनेलक्स आर्थिक संघ का गठन हुआ।

1959 आर. के. के नाम से सुपरिचित तमिल सिनेमा के जाने माने अभिनेता और अमीर कारोबारी राधा कृष्णा का जन्म कराईकुड़ी में हुआ।

1961 भारत के जाने माने मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता सलिल शेट्टी का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1962 विख्यात समाजवादी नेता फिदेल कास्त्रो के नेतृत्व वाले क्यूबा के विरुद्ध संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने प्रतिबंध की घोषणा की। इसी दिन तेलंगाना के जाने माने राजनेता चार्लाकोला लक्ष्मा रेड्डी का जन्म हुआ।

1963 भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के 23वें गवर्नर रघुराम गोविंद राजन का जन्म हुआ।

1964 सूडान में प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश विदेशी सहायताकर्मी एम्मा मैकक्यून का जन्म भारत के असम में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल मार्क राॅबिंसन का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन फिल्म जगत के जाने माने सितारे अंशुला कपूर और अर्जुन कपूर की मां मशहूर फिल्म, टेलीविजन प्रोग्राम निर्मात्री, कारोबारी मोना सूरी कपूर का जन्म नई दिल्ली में हुआ।

1969 तमिलनाडु के लोकप्रिय नेता और पहले गैर कांग्रेसी मुख्यमंत्री तथा सीएन अन्नादुरई का निधन। इसी दिन 1969 में रुस का चालक रहित अंतरिक्ष यान लूना 9 चंद्रमा पर पहली बार पूरी तरह कंट्रोल में रहते हुए उतरा।

1970 भारत के पहले और दुनिया के सबसे बड़े कोयला आधारित उर्वरक खाद संयंत्र की तलचर, उड़ीसा में आधारशिला रखी गई।

1972 जापान के सप्पारो में एशिया में पहली बार शीतकालीन ओलंपिक का आयोजन किया गया।

1979 उत्तर प्रदेश के जाने माने समाजवादी पार्टी के राजनेता, लोकसभा सदस्य रहे धर्मेंद्र यादव का जन्म सैफई में हुआ। इसी दिन प्रतिष्ठित हिंदी कथाकार राधाकृष्ण का निधन हुआ।

1983 सिंबू के नाम से विख्यात तमिल फिल्म अभिनेता सिलंबरसन तेसिंगु राजेन्द्र का जन्म हुआ।

1988 भारतीय नौसेना की पहली परमाणु संचालित पनडुब्बी आईएनएस चक्र को सैन्य बेड़े में शामिल किया गया।

1989 उड़ीसा की जानी मानी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सुलगना पाणिग्रही का जन्म ब्रह्मपुर में हुआ।

1992 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाॅल खिलाड़ी गुरप्रीत सिंह संधू का जन्म साहबजादा अजीतसिंह नगर पंजाब में हुआ।

1995 अंतरिक्षयात्री आईलीन कॉलिन्स अंतरिक्ष शटल को संचालित करने वाली पहली महिला बनीं।

1996 जानी मानी भारतीय धाविका दुति चंद का जन्म जयपुर में हुआ।

1999 जम्मू एवं कश्मीर में डेमोक्रेटिक जनता दल का पुनर्गठन हुआ। इसी दिन 1999 विश्व आर्थिक मंच की 29वीं वार्षिक बैठक स्विजरलैंड के दावोस में संपन्न हुई।

2000 भारत के यशस्वी तबलावादक उस्ताद कुरैशी अल्ला रक्खा खान का निधन हुआ।

2003 आतंकवाद के खिलाफ भारत एवं उजबेकिस्तान का संयुक्त कार्यदल गठित हुआ।

2005 भारतीय मूल के पहले अमेरिकी सांसद दलीप सिंह सौंद को सम्मानित करने के लिए अमेरिकी प्रतिनिधि सभा में लाये गये विधेयक को आम राय से मंजूरी मिली।

2006 मिस्र का जहाज अल सलाम-98 लाल सागर में डूबा।

2007 चीन ने मल्टीपरपज नेविगेशन सैटेलाइट को अंतरिक्ष की कक्षा में स्थापित किया। 2007 में इसी दिन इराक की राजधानी बगदाद में एक बाजार में हुए बम विस्फोट में 135 लोगों की जान चली गई।

2008 गुरुदेव रवींद्र नाथ टैगोर के चोरी हुए नोबेल पुरस्कार के बांग्लादेश में होने के संकेत मिले। इसी दिन 2008 में एक भारतीय कंपनी को 11 खरब क्यूबिक फीट गैस का भंडार ईरान के तटीय क्षेत्रों में मिला।

2009 ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय ने गरीबी उन्मूलन हेतु नया फार्मूला बनाया। इसी दिन फिल्म अभिनेत्री शिल्पा शेट्टी ने आईपीएल टीम राजस्थान रॉयल्स की हिस्सेदारी खरीदी। इसमें उनके पति राज कुंद्रा भी पार्टनर हैं। इसी दिन गेल इंडिया लिमिटेड एवं इफ्को ने प्राकृतिक गैस के क्षेत्र से सम्बन्धित एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किया।

2010 ऑस्ट्रेलिया की चर्चित महिला प्रधानमंत्री रेजिना का निधन हुआ।

2012 जाने माने फिल्म निर्देशक राज कंवर का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका में हाइस्कूल के छात्रों के लिए आयोजित विज्ञान और गणित के क्षेत्र में सबसे ज्यादा प्रतिष्ठित प्रतियोगिता इंटरनेशनल साइंस टेलेंट सर्च की 40 अंतिम उम्मींदवारों की लिस्ट में सात भारतीय अमेरिकी स्थान हासिल करने में सफल रहे।

2016 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता बलराम जाखड़ का निधन हुआ।

2017 चेन्नई पोर्ट में दो तेल के जहाजों की जोरदार टक्कर हो गई, जिसमें बड़े पैमाने पर तेल फैल गया।

2018 भारत ने चैथी बार अंडर-19 क्रिक्रेट वर्ल्ड कप जीता।
