1840 अंग्रेजी वर्णाक्षर टेलीग्राफ का पेटेंट विलियम कुक और चार्ल्स व्हीलस्टोन को मिला।

1853 लिफाफे बनाने को कागज मोड़ने वाली मशीन का पेटेंट रसेल हावेस ने करवाया था।

1863 बंगाल के 24 परगना के बशीरहाट के एक गांव में जमींदार आनंद मोहन घोष के बेटे राखाल चंद्र घोष का जन्म हुआ। राखाल प्रसिद्ध संत बने और स्वामी ब्रह्मानंद कहलाए।

1865 पहली बार एक तेल के कुएँ को तारपीडो से ड्रिल किया गया।

1896 प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश-यूनानी चिकित्सक, पाॅलिमिथ, कवि, प्रकृति विज्ञानी, खगोलविद, लेखक और अनुवादक थियोडारे फिलिप स्टेफनिडेस का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1908 केरल के जुझारू स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, प्रसिद्ध मलयालम कवि, लेखक, कथाकार वैक्कम मोहम्मद बशीर का जन्म हुआ।

1919 पंजाब में कांग्रेस के प्रमुख नेता और मुख्यमंत्री हुए हरचरण सिंह बराड़ का जन्म हुआ।

1922 ए मैन ऑफ और ऑल सीजन क्विज शो जैसी फिल्मों में अभिनय करने वाले विख्यात हॉलीवुड अभिनेता पॉल स्कोफील्ड का जन्म हुआ।

1924 दुनिया की पहली सफल समाजवादी क्रांति 1917 रूस के नेतृत्वकर्ता महान समाजवादी नेता, दार्शनिक और लेखक व्लादिमीर इल्यिच उल्यानोव लेनिन का निधन रूस के गोर्की लेनिंस्की में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने-माने गांधीवादी राजनेता, अर्थशास्त्री, वित्तमंत्री रहे मधु दंडवते का जन्म हुआ। 1924 में इसी दिन ब्रिटेन में पहली बार लेबर पार्टी की सरकार बनी जिसमें रैक्जे मैक्डोनाल्ड बने प्रधानमंत्री।

1925 अल्बानिया ने खुद को गणराज्य घोषित किया।

1935 मलयालम सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध निर्देशक, पटकथाकार, संगीतज्ञ, चित्रकार और कार्टूनिस्ट जी. अरविंदन का जन्म कोट्टायम में हुआ।

1943 ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार प्राप्त उड़िया भाषा की प्रसिद्ध लेखिका प्रतिभा राय का जन्म हुआ।

1945 प्रख्यात वकील और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रास बिहारी बोस की का निधन हुआ।

1950 भारत के बिहार में जन्मे अंग्रेजी के मशहूर लेखक जॉर्ज ऑरवेल लंदन में निधन हुआ। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध पश्चिमी भारतीय संगीतकार बिली ओशन का जन्म हुआ।

1952 जाने माने हिंदी, तमिल और तेलुगू इत्यादि भाषाओं के खलनायक अभिनेता प्रदीप रावत का जन्म जबलपुर में हुआ।

1958 भारत में कॉपीराइट अधिनियम लागू किया गया।

1959 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय वैज्ञानिक ज्ञानचंद्र घोष का देहावसान हुआ।

1963 प्रतिष्ठित हिंदी पत्रकार, उपन्यासकार, संपादक और कहानीकार शिवपूजन सहाय का देहांत हुआ।

1972 असम का नेफा क्षेत्र यानी नार्थ ईस्ट फ्रंटियर एजेंसी केन्द्र शासित अरुणाचल प्रदेश बना।

1981 तेहरान में अमेरिकी दूतावास में बंधक बनाए गए सभी लोगों को छुड़ाया गया।

1986 जाने माने फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता सुशांत सिंह राजपूत का जन्म हुआ।

1989 जाने माने बांग्ला अभिनेता, थिएटर निर्देशक, टेलीविजन शो प्रस्तोता और हास्य कलाकार सौरव दास का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ।

1991 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुप्रतिभावान मलयालम एवं तमिल फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल इनिया यानी श्रुति सावंत का जन्म तिरुअनंतपुरम, केरल में हुआ।

1996 इंडोनेशिया के सुमात्रा तट के पास यात्रियों से भरी नाव डूबने से लगभग 400 लोगों की मृत्यु हुईं। 1996 में इसी दिन स्वायत्त फिलिस्तीन के ऐतिहासिक प्रथम आम चुनाव में फिलिस्तीनी मुक्ति मोर्चा के नेता यासर अराफात 85 प्रतिशत मत प्राप्त कर निर्वाचित हुए और इसी दिन एशिया के सबसे बड़े रेलवे स्टेशन का चीन की राजधानी बीजिंग में उद्घाटन हुआ।

1999 स्लमडाॅग मिलेनियर की लतिका यानी जानी मानी बाल फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल रुबीना अली का जन्म हुआ। रुबीना की अम्मी और अब्बा का नाम सना कुरैशी और अब्बास कुरैशी है।

2000 हांगकांग में सन एशिया के प्रथम स्लिट लिवर का प्रत्यारोपण हुआ।

2003 चालक रहित अमेरिकी टोही विमान पाकिस्तान में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हुआ।

2004 जानी मानी टेलीविजन धारावाहिकों की बाल कलाकार, माॅडल अनन्या अग्रवाल का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

2008 भारत ने इजरायल का एक जासूसी सैटेलाइट का प्रक्षेपण कर उसे सफलतापूर्वक पोलर आर्बिट में स्थापित किया।

2012 शीर्ष अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वायरोलॉजिस्ट ने जैविक आतंक से भय के कारण एच5एन1 इन्फ्लूएंजा वायरस के अधिक वायरल तनाव पर काम रोकने के लिए सहमति व्यक्त की।

2013 यूरोपीय संघ के भीतर फ्रांस, जर्मनी और नौ अन्य देशों जैसे देशों को यूरोपीय संघ के वित्त मंत्रियों से टोबिन टैक्स लगाने की मंजूरी पर बातचीत। यह वित्तीय लेनदेन पर एक कर है।
