1225 लाई चियू हुआंग वेवियन (अब वियतनाम) के इतिहास में एकमात्र महिला साम्राज्ञी हैं, उन्होंने 1224 से 25 तक शासन किया उनका एन थाई तोंग से विवाह हुआ था। महज 7 साल की उम्र में राजशाही का लाई को अपरिहार्य कारणों से रानी बनाया गया क्योंकि तब कोई पुरुष राजपरिवार में राजा बनने योग्य नहीं था।

1492 इटली के सिसली क्षेत्र से एक लाख यहूदियों को बाहर निकाला गया।

1600 ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की इंग्लिश रॉयल चार्टर के जरिए पूर्वी और दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया और भारत में कारोबार के लिए स्थापना हुई। 1600 में इंग्लैंड की महारानी एलिजाबेथ प्रथम ने ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के पंजीयन के लिए फरमान जारी किया था। उन दिनों मसालों के व्यापार को बहुत फायदे का सौदा माना जाता था और इस पर स्पेन और पुर्तगाल का आधिपत्य था। ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की स्थापना मुख्यत मसालों के व्यापार के लिए की गई थी, लेकिन समय के साथ कंपनी ने अपने व्यापार का दायरा बढ़ाने के साथ ही भारत में ब्रिटेन के साम्राज्यवादी हितों की पूर्ति का काम कियाा। बाद में ब्रिटिश सरकार ने भारत को सीधे अपने अधिकार में ले लिया।

1691 दुनिया के जाने-माने फिजिसिस्ट और केमिस्ट रॉबर्ट बॉयल का निधन हुआ।

1695 इंग्लैंड में विंडो टैक्स लगाया गया। उस वक्त जिन लोगों के घर में 10 या उससे ज्यादा खिड़कियां होती थीं। उन्हें इसके लिए टैक्स देना होता था।

1925 लेखक श्रीलाल शुक्ल का जन्म हुआ। वो उद्देश्यपूर्ण व्यंग्य लेखन के लिए विख्यात थे। राग दरबारी, अंगद का पांव, सूनी घाटी का सूरज उनकी अहम रचनाओं में से हैं। वे पीसीएस अफसर भी थे।

1926 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय लेखक, इतिहासकार, प्रखर वक्ता और विद्वान् विश्वनाथ काशीनाथ राजवाडे का निधन हुआ था।

1927 अंतरराष्ट्रीय शिवानंद योग वेदान्त केन्द्रों और आश्रमों की स्थापना करने वाले प्रसिद्ध योगाचार्य विष्णुदेवानंद सरस्वती का केरल में जन्म हुआ।

1953 सुप्रीम कोर्ट के चर्चित जज रहे मदन भीमराव लोकुर का जन्म हुआ।

1955 कुख्यात माफिया डाॅन और अपराधी गैंग डी कंपनी के बाॅस छोटा शकील का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1962 जाने माने बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी सईद मोदी का जन्म हुआ।

1962 हालैंड ने दक्षिण पश्चिम प्रशांत महासागर में स्थित द्वीप न्यू गिनी को छोड़ा।

इंडोनेशिया को 1964 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र से निष्कासित किया गया।

1964 डोनल्ड कैम्पबेल ने अपनी स्पीडबोट 444.71 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटा की रफ्तार से दौड़ाई और उस वर्ष का दुनिया में पानी पर सबसे तेज गति से चलने का रिकॉर्ड तोड़ दिया।

1965 प्रसिद्ध क्रिकेटर लक्ष्मण शिवरामकृष्णन का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ। इसी दिन विख्यात पंजाबी गायक और अभिनेता हरभजन मान का जन्म हुआ।

1969 जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री निमिषा वखारिया का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1972 बिहार के जाने माने भाजपा नेता मंगल पांडेय का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन बेसबॉल के महान खिलाड़ी रोबर्टो क्लेमेंट की एक विमान दुर्घटना में मौत हो गई। वह निकारागुआ के भूकंप पीड़ितों के लिए एकत्र राहत सामग्री लेकर जा रहे थे।

1981 घाना में सैनिक क्रान्ति द्वारा राष्ट्रपति डाॅ. लिम्मान सत्ताच्युत हुए एवं फ्लाइट लेफ्टिनेंट जेरी रालिंग्स ने सत्ता संभाली।

1983 यूनाइटेड किंगडम यानी ने ब्रुनेई को स्वतंत्रता प्रदान की।

1984 राजीव गाँधी 40 वर्ष की उम्र में भारत के सातवें प्रधानमंत्री बने। 31 अक्टूबर 1984 को सुबह सवा नौ बजे सिख चरमपंथियों से प्रेरित सिख अंगरक्षकों द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी की हत्या के बाद दिसंबर में हुए चुनाव में कांग्रेस ने स्वतंत्र भारत के इतिहास में सबसे भारी बहुमत हासिल किया था।

1984 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेटर हुए मोहम्मद अजहरुद्दीन ने इंग्लैंड के विरुद्ध टेस्ट मैच खेलकर अपने अंतर्राष्ट्रीए क्रिकेट जीवन की शुरुआत की। बाद में वे भारतीय टीम के कप्तान भी बने।

1985 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड माॅडल और अभिनेत्री कविता राधेश्याम का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1986 तीन असंतुष्ट कर्मचारियों ने डुपोंट प्लाजा होटल सैन जुआन, प्यूर्टो रिको में आग लगा दी, जिसमें 98 लोग मारे गए और 140 अन्य घायल हो गए, जिससे यह संयुक्त राज्य के इतिहास में दूसरी सबसे घातक होटल आग बन गई।

1988 परमाणु प्रतिष्ठानों पर हमले रोकने के लिए भारत और पाकिस्तान ने एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किया जो 27 जनवरी 1991 से प्रभावी हुआ।

1989 प्रख्यात तमिल फिल्म अभिनेत्री और टेलीविजन प्रस्तोता प्रिया भवानी शंकर का जन्म हुआ।

1990 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बांग्ला फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री प्रियंका सरकार का जन्म हुआ।

1997 मोहम्मद रफीक तरार पाकिस्तान के 9वें राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित।

1998 रूस ने कजाकिस्तान अंतरिक्ष केंद्र से तीन उपग्रहों का सफल प्रक्षेपण किया।

1999 रूस के राष्ट्रपति बोरिस येलत्सीन ने त्यागपत्र दे दिया और विलादमीर पुतीन उनके उतराधिकारी बने।

1999 इंडियन एयरलाइंस के विमान 814 का अपहरण कर अफगानिस्तान के कंधार हवाई अड्डे ले जाया गया। सात दिन के बाद 190 लोगों की सुरक्षित रिहाई के साथ यह बंधक संकट टला। 24 दिसंबर 1999 को काठमांडू से दिल्ली जा रहे इंडियन एयरलाइंस की फ्लाइट आईसी-814 को हाईजैक करके उसे अफगानिस्तान के कंधार ले जाया गया था। इस फ्लाइट में सवार 170 से अधिक यात्रियों को बचाने के लिए भारत ने 31 दिसंबर 1999 में 3 आतंकियों को रिहा किया था। इस प्लेन में 178 यात्री और 11 क्रू मेंबर सवार थे। इस प्लेन को पाकिस्तान स्थित हरकत-उल-मुजाहिदीन नामक आतंकी संगठन के पांच आतंकियों ने आरोपों के अनुसार पाकिस्तानी सेना के सक्रिय समर्थन और सहायता से हाईजैक किया था। आतंकियों ने हाईजैक करने के बाद प्लेन को अमृतसर और लाहौर में रुकवाया था, इसके बाद अंत में वे उसे अफगानिस्तान के कंधार ले गए। 24 दिसंबर 1999 की शाम नेपाल के काठमांडू से उड़े प्लेन को भारतीय सीमा में घुसते ही शाम करीब पांच बजे पांच आतंकियों ने हाईजैक कर लिया। वे इसे अमृतसर, लाहौर और दुबई होते हुए अफगानिस्तान के कंधार ले गए, जहां उस समय तालिबानी शासन था। आतंकियों ने भारतीय जेलों में कैद 35 आतंकियों को छोड़ने के साथ ही 200 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर नकद (1488 करोड़ रुपए) दिए जाने की मांग की थी। लेकिन लंबी बातचीत के बाद भारत सरकार और आतंकी केवल तीन आतंकियों मसूद अजहर, अहमद जरगर और शेख अहमद उमर सईद की रिहाई पर सहमत हो गये। कहा गया कि भारत आतंकियों के दबाव में नहीं आया। लेकिन चर्चा थी कि आतंकियों को मोटी रकम भी दी गई। 

2001 भारत ने पाकिस्तान को 20 वांछित अपराधियों की सूची सौंपी। अर्जेन्टीना के राष्ट्रपति फर्नांडों रूआ ने अपने पद इस्तीफा दिया।

2003 भारत और सार्क के दूसरे देशों के विदेश सचिवों ने शिखर सम्मेलन से पहले वार्ता शुरू की।

2004 अर्जेंटीना के शहर ब्यूनर्स आयर्स के एक नाइट क्लब में आग लगने से 175 लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन 2004 में ताइवान के ताइपे में ताइपे-101 नाम की दुनिया की सबसे ऊंची इमारत बनी। इसकी उंचाई 508 मीटर है। 2010 में दुबई की बुर्ज खलीफा ने इसका रिकॉर्ड तोड़ा। इसकी ऊंचाई 828 मीटर है।

2005 बिहार के अररिया में पूनम टम्टा ने जिस बेटी को जन्म दिया उसके चार हाथ और चार पैर हैं। बेटी का नाम लक्ष्मी और पिता का नाम शंभू टम्टा है।

2007 म्यांमार की सैन्य सरकार ने सात विपक्षी नेताओं को गिरफ्तार किया।

2008 ईश्वरदास रोहिणी को दूसरी बार मध्य प्रदेश विधानसभा का अध्यक्ष बनाने की घोषणा हुई।

2011 उत्तर कोरिया में किम जोंग-उन को उत्तर कोरिया के सशस्त्र बलों के सुप्रीम कमांडर का ओहदा दिया गया।

2012 न्यूयॉर्क के रोचेस्टर में रोचेस्टर मेडिकल सेंटर के विश्वविद्यालय में किए गए एक अध्ययन में पाया गया कि अल्जाइमर रोग के विकास में हानिकारक अंतरिक्ष विकिरण सहायक हैं। इसी दिन 2012 में वेनेजुएला के राष्ट्रपति ह्यूगो शावेज का कैंसर ऑपरेशन हुआ। उनके मंत्रिमंडली सहयोगियों और जनता ने उनके जल्द स्वस्थ होने की कामना की।

2013 रूस के राष्ट्राध्यक्षों के बीच लंबे समय से चली आ रही परंपरा को तोड़ते हुए, राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने एक के बजाय दो नए साल के भाषण दिए। उन्होंने खाबरोवस्क में अपना दूसरा वक्तव्य दिया जो उस समय गर्मी में विनाशकारी बाढ़ से बुरी तरह प्रभावित था।

2014 चीन के शंघाई शहर में नए साल की पूर्व संध्या पर मची भगदड़ में कम से कम 36 लोग मारे गए और 49 अन्य घायल हो गये। 2014 में इसी दिन नौ सौ सीरियाई लोगों को ले जाने वाला एक जहाज इंटरसेप्टेड कर सुरक्षित रूप से इतालवी तट रक्षक द्वारा तट पर लाया गया। जहाज मानव तस्करों द्वारा संचालित किया गया था। 2014 में इसी दिन इतालवी राष्ट्रपति जियोर्जियो नेपोलिटानो ने अपने इस्तीफे की घोषणा की।

2019 विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने पहली बार चीन के वुहान में वायरल निमोनिया फैलने की पुष्टि की थी। इस निमोनिया को बाद में कोरोना वायरस के रूप में पहचाना गया। चीन में पुष्टि के महज तीन महीने के अंदर ही दुनिया के अधिकतर देशों में कोरोना फैल गया। भारत में कोरोना का पहला मामला 30 जनवरी 2020 को आया था, जब वुहान से एक छात्रा केरल पहुंची थी। कोरोना को 11 मार्च 2020 को डब्ल्यूएचओ ने महामारी घोषित किया। उस समय तक भारत में कोरोना के कुल 71 मामले सामने आए थे। तब तक दुनिया भर में 1 लाख 48 हजार से ज्यादा मामले आ चुके थे। अकेले चीन में 80 हजार से ज्यादा कोविड-19 मरीज बताए गये थे। जब पूरी दुनिया कोरोना से बचाव, उपचार और दूसरी जरूरी तैयारियां कर रही थी तब भारत की सरकार अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड जे ट्रंप को दोबारा जिताने के सिलसिले में भारत में भव्य स्वागत आयोजन कर रही थी। उसके बाद मध्य प्रदेश में कांग्रेस की सरकार गिराकर भाजपा की सरकार बनाई गई। बाद में 22 मार्च को एक दिन का जनता कर्फ्यू का आयोजन कर उसी को लंबे लाॅकडाउन में तब्दी कर दिया। आधिकारिक तौर पर भारत में कोरोना को फैलने से रोकने के लिए 25 मार्च 2020 को देश के इतिहास में पहली बार लॉकडाउन घोषित किया गया। उस समय तक भारत में 571 केस आ चुके थे। भारत में 25 मार्च 2020 से 31 मई 2020 तक लॉकडाउन लगा रहा। एक जून से देश के अनलॉक होने की प्रक्रिया शुरू हुई। उस समय देश में कोरोना के 1 लाख 90 हजार से ज्यादा केस आ चुके थे। भारत के कोरोना कुप्रबंधन की दुनिया भर में आलोचना हुई है और स्वतंत्र अध्ययनों से पता चला है कि 50 लाख से ज्यादा मौतें हुई हैं। यह सब सरकारी लापरवाही से हुआ है। इसके अलावा करोड़ों लोग भुखमरी, बेरोजगारी, बेकारी से तबाह हो गये।

1999 Indian Airlines Flight 814 was hijacked and taken to Kandahar Airport in Afghanistan. The hostage crisis was averted after seven days with the safe release of 190 people. On 24 December 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC-814 going from Kathmandu to Delhi was hijacked and taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan. To save more than 170 passengers aboard this flight, India released 3 terrorists on 31 December 1999. There were 178 passengers and 11 crew members in this plane. The plane was hijacked by five terrorists of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, allegedly with the active support and aid of the Pakistan Army.
