1680 मराठा शासक शिवाजी का महाराष्ट्र के रायगढ़ किले में निधन हुआ।

1783 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी चिंतक, निबंधकार, कथाकार, जीवनीकार, इतिहासकार और राजनयिक वाशिंगटन इर्विंग का जन्म मैनहट्टन में हुआ। अमरीका के साहित्य में इनका ऊँचा स्थान है। बचपन से ही इन्होंने अपने पिता विलियम इर्विग के निजी पुस्तकालय में ज्ञानार्जन किया। इनका साहित्य काफी लोकप्रिय हुआ। इसी दिन स्वीडन और अमेरिका ने एमिटी एंड कॉमर्स की एक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1856 यूनान के रोडोस द्वीप समूह में चर्च में हुए बम विस्फोट में करीब 4000 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1885 गॉटलीब डेमलर को हल्के, उच्च गति, चार-स्ट्रोक इंजन के लिए जर्मन पेटेंट दिया गया, जिसका उपयोग उन्होंने सात महीने बाद दुनिया की पहली मोटरसाइकिल डेमलर रीटवेगन बनाने में किया।

1896 इटली के खेल समाचार पत्र ला गैजेटा डेल्लो का पहला अंक प्रकाशित हुआ।

1903 भारत की प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकत्री, लेखिका और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी कमलादेवी चट्टोपाध्याय का जन्म कर्नाटक के मैंगलोर जिले में हुआ।

1910 जुआन वर्गास ने 114 वर्ष अलामो की लड़ाई का अनुभव और जीवन का विवरण लिखा।

1911 न्यूजीलैंड में 14 से 20 वर्ष के सभी लड़कों के लिए ड्राफ्ट पंजीकरण अनिवार्य हुआ।

1914 भारतीय सेना के सर्वोच्च सैन्य अधिकारी भारत के प्रथम फील्ड मार्शल एसएचएफजे माणेकशॉ का जन्म अमृतसर में जन्म हुआ। चार दशक के अपने सैन्य करियर में उन्होंने पांच लड़ाइयां लड़ीं। दूसरे विश्व युद्ध में ब्रिटिश इंडियन आर्मी में अपनी सेवाएं देने वाले माणेकशॉ ने 1971 में पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ लड़ाई में भारत को जीत दिलाई जिसमें पाकिस्तान की सेना ने आत्मसमर्पण किया और इससे बांग्लादेश का जन्म हुआ।

1918 प्रसिद्ध यूक्रेनी, सोवियत लेखक ओलेस गोनचार लोमिव्का का जन्म यूक्रेन में हुआ। गोनचार ने सोवियत समाज में यूक्रेनी संस्कृति के पुनः स्थापन के लिये संघर्ष भी किया। गोनचार के उपन्यासों में यूक्रेन, सोवियत समाज की गतिविधियों और द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध का वर्णन भी है।

1922 सोवियत वामपंथी नेता कॉमरेड जोसेफ स्टालिन को सोवियत कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की केंद्रीय समिति का महासचिव नियुक्त किया गया। इसी दिन विख्यात अमेरिकी गायिका, अभिनेत्री और सामाजिक कार्यकत्री डोरिस डे का जन्म हुआ।

1924 अमेरिका के विश्व विख्यात फिल्म अभिनेता मर्लिन ब्रांडो का जन्म ओमाहा, नेब्रास्का में हुआ।

1929 शिमला में निर्मल वर्मा का जन्म हुआ। वर्मा हिंदी के आधुनिक कथाकार और पत्रकार थे। निर्मल वर्मा को मूर्तिदेवी पुरस्कार, साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार उत्तर प्रदेश हिंदी संस्थान पुरस्कार और ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1931 प्रसिद्ध महिला साहित्यकार मन्नू भंडारी का जन्म हुआ। यह प्रमुख हिंदी लेखक और हंस पत्रिका के संपादक - प्रकाशक राजेंद्र यादव की पत्नी रहीं।

1933 विश्व की सबसे ऊंची चोटी माउंट एवरेस्ट के ऊपर से पहली बार विमान ने उड़ान भरी।

1942 जर्मन पनडुब्बी यू-702 उत्तर समुद्र में खो गयी।

1949 अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन, फ्रांस और कनाडा ने उत्तरी अटलांटिक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1954 प्रसिद्ध राजनेता और फिजीशियन डॉ. के. कृष्णास्वामी का जन्म हुआ।

1955 हरिहरन के नाम से मशहूर फिल्मी पाश्र्व, भजन और ग़ज़ल गायक हरिहरन अनंथा सुब्रमणी का जन्म दादर, बंबई में हुआ। 1955 में इसी दिन अमेरिकन सिविल लिबर्टीज यूनियन ने घोषणा की कि वह अश्लीलता के आरोपों के खिलाफ एलन गिंसबर्ग की पुस्तक हॉवेल का बचाव करेगी।

1962 पं. जवाहरलाल नेहरू पुनः प्रधानमंत्री चुने गये। इसी दिन भारत की मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेत्री जया प्रदा का जन्म हुआ। यह समाजवादी पार्टी की कई बार उत्तर प्रदेश के रामपुर से लोकसभा सदस्य चुनी गईं।

1968 अमेरिकन फिल्म प्लैनेट ऑफ द एपस थिएटरों में रिलीज हुई। इसी दिन आई हैव बीन टू द माउंटेनटॉप शीर्षक वाला ऐतिहासिक और अंतिम वक्तव्य मार्टिन लूथर किंग जूनियर मेम्फिस, टेनेसी में मेसन टेम्पल (क्राइस्ट मुख्यालय में चर्च ऑफ गॉड) के बाहर दिया। भाषण मुख्य रूप से मेम्फिस स्वच्छता हड़ताल से संबंधित था। किंग ने संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका को अपने आदर्शों पर कायम रहने की चुनौती देते हुए एकता, आर्थिक कार्रवाई, बहिष्कार और अहिंसक विरोध का आह्वान किया। भाषण के अंत में उन्होंने अपनी असामयिक मृत्यु की संभावना जताई। अगले ही दिन उनकी हत्या कर दी गई।

1973 अमेरिका के मैनहट्टन की साइडवॉक से पहला पब्लिक मोबाइल टेलीफोन कॉल किया गया। मोटोरोला के मार्टिन कूपर ने बेल लैब्स के जोएल एंजेल को फोन लगाया। कूपर को आज के मोबाइल फोन का जनक कहा जाता है। उस समय कूपर मोटरोला कंपनी के लिए काम करते थे। अमेरिका में कार फोन का इस्तेमाल तो 1930 से हो रहा था, लेकिन हैंडहेल्ड फोन का इस्तेमाल तीन अप्रैल को पहली बार कूपर ने किया।

1973 दक्षिण भारत के जाने माने फिल्म डांस कोरियोग्राफर, निर्माता, निर्देशक और अभिनेता प्रभु देवा का जन्म हुआ।

1981 अमेरिका के सैन फ्रांसिस्को के ब्रुक्स हाल में ओसबोर्न कंप्यूटर कॉरपोरेशन के एडम ओसबोर्न द्वारा तैयार पहले पोर्टेबल कंप्यूटर का नमूना पेश किया गया। इसका वजन करीब 24 पाउंड था।

1982 विश्व प्रसिद्ध कनाडाई अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल तथा टेलीविजन हस्ती कोबी स्मुल्डर्स का जन्म वेंकूवर में हुआ।

1986 विख्यात अमेरिकी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अमांडा लौरा बायनेस का जन्म थाउजैंड ओक, कैलीफोर्निया में हुआ।

1987 अटलांटिक सिटी के न्यू जर्सी में शोबोट कैसीनो होटल की स्थापना की गयी। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता विक्रांत मैस्सी का जन्म हुआ। 1987 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध हिंदी अनुवादक, साहित्यकार, कवि, पत्रकार और संपादक सच्चिदानंद हीरानंद वात्स्यायन अज्ञेय का नई दिल्ली में निधन हुआ। इन्होंने दिल्ली में एक पेड़ पर अपने रहने को घर बनाया हुआ था।

1996 अमेरिकी कथाकार वन्ना बोरिता के 1995 में छपे उपन्यास फ्लाइट: ए क्वांटम फिक्शन के बाद 1996 में विश्व पार्टी दिवस का आयोजन किया गया। यह युद्ध के मुकाबिल सामान्य जीवन का जश्न मनाने के लिए हुआ। उसके बाद विश्व पार्टी दिवस दुनिया भर में मनाया जाता है। इसमें शामिल होकर लोग सामान्य बातों के अलावा ज्वलंत विषयों पर भी बातचीत करते हैं, इसे भ्रातत्व, शांति, समरसता इत्यादि को बढ़ावा देने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है।

1999 भारत ने अपने पहले वैश्विक दूरसंचार उपग्रह इनसैट 1ई का प्रक्षेपण किया।

2001 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति विलियम जेफरसन क्लिंटन या बिल क्लिंटन भारत यात्रा पर नई दिल्ली पहुँचे।

2002 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ की जनमत संग्रह की योजना को मंत्रिमंडल की मंजूरी मिली।

2006 नेपाल में माओवादियों ने संघर्षविराम की घोषणा की।

2009 जिवर्ली एंटारेस वोंग ने न्यूयॉर्क के बिंघमटन में अमेरिकन सिविक एसोसिएशन के आव्रजन केंद्र पर गोलीबारी की, जिसमें 13 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 4 लोग घायल हो गए। वोंग ने यहीं आत्महत्या कर ली।

2010 एप्पल का पहला आईपेड मार्केट में पेश किया गया।

2012 रूस की राजधानी मास्को में भीषण आग में 17 प्रवासी श्रमिकों की मौत हुई।

2013 अर्जेंटीना में आई भीषण बाढ़ से 50 से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई।

2016 वेस्टइंडीज ने कोलकाता के ईडन गार्डंस में फाइनल मुकाबले में इंग्लैंड को हराकर आईसीसी ट्वेंटी-20 क्रिकेट विश्व कप 2016 का खिताब जीता। इसी दिन पनामा पेपर्स कानूनी दस्तावेज लीक से 214,488 अपतटीय कंपनियों की जानकारी का पता चला।

2017 उत्तराखंड की राजधानी देहरादून के वन अनुसंधान संस्थान में 19वां राष्ट्रमंडल वानिकी सम्मेलन शुरू हुआ। ब्रिटेन के अधीन रहे तमाम देश राष्ट्रमंडल के सदस्य हैं। 2017 में इसी दिन हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय परंपरा की प्रमुख गायिका किशोरी अमोनकर का निधन हुआ।

2018 कैलिफोर्निया के सैन ब्रूनो में यूट्यूब मुख्यालय में एक 38 वर्षीय बंदूकधारी नसीम नजफी अघदम ने गोलीबारी की, जिसमें तीन लोग घायल हुए। नसीम ने इसी वक्त खुद को शूट कर आत्महत्या कर ली।

2021 गीता प्रेस गोरखपुर के प्रमुख रहे हिंदुत्ववादी विचारक, लेखक राधेश्याम खेमका का निधन हुआ।

2022 लोकप्रिय ब्रिटिश अंग्रेजी अभिनेत्री और लेखिका जून म्यूरियल ब्राउन (जन्म 16 फरवरी 1927) का सरे, इंग्लैंड में निधन हुआ। उन्हें बीबीसी सोप ओपेरा ईस्टएंडर्स में डॉट कॉटन के रूप में उनकी भूमिका के लिए जाना जाता है। 2005 में उन्होंने इनसाइड सोप अवार्ड्स में सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री का पुरस्कार जीता और 2005 ब्रिटिश सोप अवार्ड्स में लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट पुरस्कार पाया। ब्राउन को नाटक और दान की सेवाओं के लिए 2008 बर्थडे ऑनर्स में ऑर्डर ऑफ द ब्रिटिश एम्पायर (एमबीई) का सदस्य नियुक्त किया गया। 2022 के नए साल के सम्मान में ओबीई में पदोन्नत किया गया था। 2009 में, उन्हें सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री के लिए बाफ्टा टीवी अवॉर्ड के लिए नामांकित किया गया था, जिससे वह जीन अलेक्जेंडर के बाद सोप ओपेरा में अपने काम के लिए बाफ्टा नामांकन प्राप्त करने वाली दूसरी कलाकार बन गईं। फरवरी 2020 में 93 वर्ष की आयु में, उन्होंने घोषणा की कि उन्होंने ईस्टएंडर्स को स्थायी रूप से छोड़ दिया है।

2023 सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों (पब्लिक सेक्टर बैंक्स - पीएसबी) ने भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक को 35,012 करोड़ रुपये की बगैर दावे वाली फरवरी 2023 तक जमा राशि को ट्रांसफर कर दी है। लोकसभा को सोमवार 3 अप्रैल को दी गई जानकारी के अनुसार, पीएसबी में, एसबीआई 8,086 करोड़ रुपये की बगैर दावे वाली राशि के साथ लिस्ट में सबसे ऊपर है, जबकि पंजाब नेशनल बैंक के पास 5,340 करोड़ रुपये और केनरा बैंक के पास 4,558 करोड़ रुपये हैं।

1914 India's first Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, the highest military officer of the Indian Army, was born in Amritsar. In his military career spanning four decades, he fought five battles. Manekshaw, who served in the British Indian Army in the Second World War, led India to victory in the war against Pakistan in 1971 in which the Pakistani army surrendered and this led to the birth of Bangladesh.

1918 Oles Gonchar Lomiivka, famous Ukrainian, Soviet writer, is born in Ukraine. Gonchar also fought for the reestablishment of Ukrainian culture in Soviet society. Gonchar's novels also describe Ukraine, the activities of Soviet society, and World War II.

1922 Soviet leftist leader Comrade Joseph Stalin is appointed General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party. On this day, famous American singer, actress and social activist Doris Day was born.

1924 America's world famous film actor Marilyn Brando was born in Omaha, Nebraska.

1929 Nirmal Verma was born in Shimla. Verma was a modern Hindi storyteller and journalist. Nirmal Verma was honored with Murtidevi Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Uttar Pradesh Hindi Institute Award and Jnanpith Award.

1931 Famous female litterateur Mannu Bhandari was born. She was the wife of prominent Hindi writer and editor-publisher of Hans Patrika, Rajendra Yadav.

1933 An aircraft flew for the first time over Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.

1942 German submarine U-702 lost in the North Sea.

1949 US, Britain, France and Canada sign the North Atlantic Treaty.

1954 Famous politician and physician Dr. K. Krishnaswami was born.

1955 Hariharan Anantha Subramani, famous film playback, bhajan and ghazal singer Hariharan, was born in Dadar, Bombay. On this day in 1955, the American Civil Liberties Union announced that it would defend Allen Ginsberg's book Howl against obscenity charges.

1962 Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was re-elected Prime Minister. On this day, India's famous film actress Jaya Prada was born. She was elected as Lok Sabha member from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh several times from Samajwadi Party.

1968 American film Planet of the Apes is released in theatres. On this day, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic and final speech titled I've Been to the Mountaintop outside the Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ headquarters) in Memphis, Tennessee. The speech was primarily related to the Memphis sanitation strike. King called for unity, economic action, boycotts, and nonviolent protest, challenging the United States to stick to its ideals. At the end of the speech he raised the possibility of his untimely death. He was murdered the very next day.

1973 Prabhu Deva, a well-known South Indian film dance choreographer, producer, director and actor, was born.

1981 The first portable computer designed by Adam Osborne of Osborne Computer Corporation was introduced at Brooks Hall in San Francisco, USA. Its weight was about 24 pounds.

1982 World famous Canadian actress, model and television personality Cobie Smulders was born in Vancouver.

1986 Amanda Laura Bynes, famous American film and television actress and model, was born in Thousand Oaks, California.

1987 Showboat Casino Hotel opened in Atlantic City, New Jersey. On this day, well-known Indian film and television actor Vikrant Massey was born. On this day in 1987, the famous Hindi translator, litterateur, poet, journalist and editor Sachchidanand Hiranand Vatsyayan Agyeya died in New Delhi. He had built his home on a tree in Delhi.

All the countries which were under Britain are members of the Commonwealth. On this day in 2017, Kishori Amonkar, a prominent singer of the Hindustani classical tradition, passed away.

2018 A 38-year-old gunman, Nassim Najafi Aghdam, opened fire at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California, wounding three people. Naseem committed suicide by shooting himself at this very moment.

2022 June Muriel Brown (born 16 February 1927), popular British English actress and author, dies in Surrey, England. She is best known for her role as Dot Cotton in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. In 2005 she won Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 British Soap Awards. Brown was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2008 Birthday Honors for services to drama and charity. Was promoted to OBE in the 2022 New Year Honours. In 2009, she was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress, making her the second performer after Jean Alexander to receive a BAFTA nomination for her work in a soap opera. In February 2020, aged 93, he announced that he had left EastEnders permanently.

2023 Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have transferred unclaimed deposits of Rs 35,012 crore till February 2023 to the Reserve Bank of India. Among PSBs, SBI tops the list with unclaimed amount of Rs 8,086 crore, while Punjab National Bank has Rs 5,340 crore and Canara Bank Rs 4,558 crore, according to information given to the Lok Sabha on Monday April 3.
