32 ईसापूर्व 31 मार्च को प्रमुख रोमन संपादक, बैंकर और पत्रों के संरक्षक टाइटस पोंपोनियस एटिकस (पत्नी का नाम पिलिया या पीलिया) का रोम में निधन हुआ।

307 रोमन सम्राट कॉन्स्टेंटाइन ने अपनी पत्नी मिनर्विना को तलाक देने के बाद सेवानिवृत्त रोमन सम्राट मैक्सिमियन की बेटी फॉस्टा से शादी की।

627 मुस्लिम-कुरैशी कबीलों यानी जनजातियों के एक परिसंघ ने मुहम्मद (मुख्य इस्लामी पैंगंबर हजरत मोहम्मद) और उसकी सेना के खिलाफ यत्रिब (अब मदीना) की घेराबंदी शुरू की।

1146 क्लेरवाक्स के फ्रांसीसी मठाधीश बर्नार्ड ने राजा लुईस सप्तम के साथ जनता की एक सभा को धर्मोपदेश दिया, जिसमें दूसरे धर्मयुद्ध की आवश्यकता का आग्रह किया गया।

1492 कैस्टिले की रानी इसाबेला ने अलहम्ब्रा डिक्री जारी की, जिसमें उन्होंने आदेश दिया कि 150,000 यहूदी और मुस्लिम ईसाई धर्म में परिवर्तित हों या देश से बाहर जाएं।

1504 मुक्तसर (बाद में श्री मुक्तसर साहिब) में श्री फेरूमल और रामो के एक बालक का जन्म हुआ जो आगे चलकर गुरु नानक के बाद सिखों का दूसरा गुरु हुआ, नाम हुआ - गुरु अंगद देव। 

1521 फर्डिनेंड मैगलन और उनके पचास लोग फिलीपींस में पहले कैथोलिक जनसमूह में भाग लेने के लिए लिमासावा पहुंचे।

1596 विश्व विख्यात फ्रांसीसी दार्शनिक गणितज्ञ और भौतिक शास्त्री रेने डेकार्ट का जन्म हुआ।

1727 महान भौतिकशास्त्री आइजैक न्यूटन का निधन हुआ।

1736 अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क शहर के अलमहाउस में बेल्व्यू अस्पताल की स्थापना की गयी जो अमेरिका का पहला सार्वजनिक अस्पताल बना।

1774 बंगाल के गवर्नर वॉरेन हेस्टिंग्स ने कलकत्ता में देश का पहला प्रधान डाकघर स्थापित करवाया। 1 अक्टूबर 1854 को वॉयसराय लार्ड डलहौजी ने डाक सेवा का केंद्रीकरण किया।

1814 नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट विरोधी सैनिकों ने पेरिस पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1822 इंडिपेंडेंस-ओटोमन सैनिकों के यूनानी युद्ध में चियोस द्वीप पर 20,000 से अधिक यूनानियों का नरसंहार शुरू किया।

1854 अमेरिकी नौसेना के कमोडोर मैथ्यू सी. पेरी और तोकुगावा ने संयुक्त रूप से कनागावा के कन्वेंशन पर हस्ताक्षर किए, जिसने अमेरिकी व्यापार के लिए जापानी बंदरगाहों को खोलने का मार्ग प्रशस्त किया।

1860 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय लेखक रमा शंकर व्यास का जन्म हुआ।

1865 भारत की पहली महिला डॉक्टर आनंदी बाई जोशी का जन्म हुआ। जोशी 1886 में वेस्टर्न मेडिसिन में डिग्री हासिल करने वाली पहली महिला बनीं।

1867 मुंबई में प्रार्थना समाज की स्थापना हुई। हिंदू धर्म में व्याप्त गैरबराबरी, भेदभाव, शोषण, उत्पीड़न के कारण अधिसंख्य दलित, आदिवासी और पिछड़ों की दशा बेहद खराब थी जिससे हिंदू धर्म के मठाधीशों की विनम्र आलोचना होती थी। इसाई मिशनरी समाज सेवा के कार्य में लगी थीं जिससे प्रभावित बहुत लोग इसाई धर्म अपना रहे थे। इससे हिंदू धर्म के ठेकेदारों की चिंता बढ़ गई, तब हिंदू धर्म को बचाने के नाम पर कुछ सुधार करने, कुछ समाज सेवा के कार्य करने के उद्देश्य से प्रार्थना समाज स्थापित किया गया।

1870 अमेरिका में पहली बार किसी अश्वेत नागरिक ने वोट दिया। अमेरिकी संविधान के 15वें संशोधन के बाद न्यूजर्सी के थॉमस पैटर्सन-मुंडी वोट करने वाले पहले अश्वेत बने।

1889 पेरिस का मशहूर एफिल टावर आधिकारिक तौर पर खुला। 324 मीटर ऊंचे इस टावर को देखने के लिए हर साल 70 लाख से ज्यादा लोग आते हैं।

1906 विख्यात भारतीय सैन्य अधिकारी कोडंडेरा सुबैया थिमैया का जन्म मेडिकेरी में हुआ। थिमैया 8 मई 1957 से 07 मई 1961 तक भारत के थलसेनाध्यक्ष थे। उन्हें प्रशासकीय सेवा क्षेत्र में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए पद्म भूषण से 1954 में सम्मानित किया गया।

1917 अमेरिका ने डेनिश वेस्ट इंडीज खरीदा और उसका नाम वर्जिन आइलैंड रखा।

1918 अर्मेनियाई रिवोल्यूशनरी फेडरेशन और बोल्शेविकों के सहयोगी सशस्त्र समूहों ने जातीय अजरबैजानियों का नरसंहार किया गया जिसमें करीब 12 हजार अजरबैजानी मुसलमान मारे गए।

1921 रॉयल ऑस्ट्रेलिया एयरफोर्स की स्थापना हुई। 1921 में इसी दिन भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के झंडे को अंगीकार किया गया।

1922 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अभिनेता और गायक रिचर्ड काइली का जन्म हुआ।

1930 सरकारी सेंसरशिप से बचने के लिए, हॉलीवुड फिल्म स्टूडियो ने उद्योग सेंसरशिप दिशा-निर्देशों के अपने स्वयं के सेट की स्थापना की, जिसे हेस कोड के रूप में जाना जाता है।

1930 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी कहे गये श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा का निधन हुआ।

1931 भारत के विशिष्ठ निबंधकारों में से एक पूर्णसिंह का निधन हुआ।

1934 अंग्रेजी और मलयालम की प्रसिद्ध लेखिका और कवियत्री कमला सुरैया उर्फ कमला दास उर्फ माधवीकुट्टी का जन्म हुआ।

1938 भारत की प्रसिद्ध महिला राजनीतिज्ञ तथा दिल्ली की पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री शीला दीक्षित का जन्म हुआ।

1945 रक्षा मंत्री और उप प्रधानमंत्री रहे बाबू जगजीवन राम की बेटी प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ, पहली महिला लोकसभा अध्यक्ष, केंद्र में मंत्री रहीं मीरा कुमार का जन्म हुआ।

1948 वाशिंगटन, डीसी में अल्बर्ट अर्नोल्ड गोर जूनियर का जन्म हुआ जो आगे चलकर प्रभावशाली अमेरिकी राजनीतिज्ञ, व्यवसायी, पर्यावरणवि तथा 1993 से 2001 तक राष्ट्रपति बिल क्लिंटन के साथ संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के 45वें उपराष्ट्रपति हुए।

1959 बौद्ध धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा (वास्तविक नाम ल्हामो थोंडुप और ग्यालवा रिंपोछे) को तिब्बत से निर्वासन के बाद भारत में शरण दी गई। 31 मार्च 1959 को तिब्बती धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा तिब्बत की राजधानी ल्हासा से भारत पहुंचे थे। मार्च 1959 के शुरु में खबर फैली कि चीन दलाई लामा को बंधक बनाकर बीजिंग ले जाने वाला है। इसके बाद तिब्बत की राजधानी ल्हासा में 10 मार्च 1959 से चीन के खिलाफ विद्रोह शुरू हो गया। करीब 30,000 तिब्बती लोग चीनी सेना को रोकने के लिए इंसानी दीवार बनाकर दलाई लामा के महल के बाहर जमा हो गए। चीनी सेना को लोगों को हटाने के लिए तोप और मशीन गन तक लगानी पड़ी। लोगों को बुरी तरह मारा-पीटा गया। कहा जाता है कि दलाई लामा के बॉडीगार्ड्स को मार दिया गया। कई दिन चले संघर्ष के बाद जब चीनी सेना महल में दाखिल हुई, तब तक दलाई लामा वहां से भाग चुके थे। 17 मार्च को 20 शिष्यों के साथ ल्हासा छोड़ने के 15 दिन बाद वो भारत पहुंचे। भारत ने उन्हें राजनीतिक संरक्षण दिया। तब से आज तक वो भारत में ही हैं। हिमाचल प्रदेश के धर्मशाला में वह निवास करते हैं और पूरी तिब्बती सरकार धर्मशाला में संचालित होती है जिसके संचालन के लिए भारत सरकार हर साल मोटी रकम देती है।

1950 हलधर नाग का जन्म हुआ। नाग ओड़ीसा के कोसली भाषा के कवि एवम लेखक हैं। लोककवि रत्न के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हलधर के बारे में विशेष बात यह है कि उन्हें अपनी लिखी सारी कविताएँ और 20 महाकाव्य कण्ठस्थ हैं। भारत सरकार द्वारा उन्हें 2016 में राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी के हाथों पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया।

1962 रामकी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध तमिल फिल्म अभिनेता रामकृष्णन का जन्म सत्तूर में हुआ। 

1963 हिंदी, मराठी, तमिल, तेलुगू, कन्नड़ इत्यादि अनेक भाषाओं की प्रसिद्ध गीत गायिका सुजाता मोहन का कोच्चि में जन्म हुआ।

1964 बंबई में इलेक्ट्रिक ट्राम आखिरी बार चली।

1966 सोवियत रूस ने पहला चंद्रयान लूना10 लांच किया।

1972 प्रख्यात भारतीय अभिनेत्री मीना कुमारी का निधन हुआ। फरवरी 1972 में मीना कुमारी अभिनीत फिल्म पाकीजा रिलीज हुई। इसके कुछ दिन बाद ही वो बीमार पड़ गईं। उनके लिवर में दिक्कत थी। कहते हैं कि इसकी वजह उनका जरूरत से ज्यादा शराब पीना तथा अत्यधिक तनावग्रस्त रहना था। उनकी ये बीमारी जानलेवा साबित हुई। उन्होंने बचपन से बड़े दुख झेले थे। कहते हैं कि पैदा होते ही उनके मां-बाप उन्हें अनाथाश्रम छोड़ आए थे। लेकिन उन्हें परिवार, समाज के कारण वापस लाना पड़ा। उनका कमाल अमरोही सहित कई लोगों ने काफी शोषण किया। मीना कुमारी ने बैजू बावरा, दिल अपना और प्रीत पराई, भाभी की चूड़ियां, मेरे अपने, बहू बेगम जैसी दर्जनों कामयाब फिल्में की थीं। उन्हें बॉलीवुड की ट्रेजडी क्वीन कहा जाता था। महज 19 साल की उम्र में उन्होंने अपने से 15 साल बड़े शादीशुदा कमाल अमरोही से शादी की। ये शादी ज्यादा दिन नहीं चली। आठ साल बाद दोनों का तलाक हो गया। कुछ साल बाद 1964 में दोनों ने फिर से शादी की। इस बाद मीना कुमारी को शराब की लत लगी। कमाल अमरोही ने ही मीना कुमारी के साथ मिलकर अपनी ड्रीम फिल्म पाकीजा बनाई। इसे बनाने में ही 16 साल लग गए थे। पाकीजा रिलीज होते ही दर्शकों को भा गई, लेकिन 126 मिनट की इस फिल्म की कामयाबी देखने के लिए मीना कुमारी 126 दिन भी जिंदा नहीं रहीं। मीना कुमारी का जन्म एक अगस्त 1932 को हुआ था और उनका नाम महजबीं बानो था। शानदार अदाकारा होने के साथ ही वे एक बेहतरीन शायरा भी थीं। 

1979 विख्यात सिंगापुरी, नेपाली एवं अमेरिकी फैशन डिजाइनर प्रबाल गुरुंग का जन्म सिंगापुर में हुआ। इसी दिन माल्टा ने ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की।

1980 अमेरिका के महान फर्राटा धावक जेसी ओवंस का निधन हुआ। ओवंस ने 1936 के बर्लिन ओलंपिक खेलों में अपने देश के लिए चार स्वर्ण पदक जीते थे।

1981 एक घरेलू विमान का अपहरण करने वाले इंडोनेशिया के पांच आतंकियों में से चार को थाइलैंड के बैंकॉक में मार गिराया गया। विमान में सवार सभी 55 लोग सुरक्षित रहे। आतंकियों ने इंडोनेशिया की जेलों में बंद 80 लोगों को रिहा कराने के लिए 28 मार्च को विमान का अपहरण किया था और उसे बैंकॉक ले गए।

1983 कोलंबिया के शहर पोपायन में आए विनाशकारी भूंकप में 500 लोगों की मौत हुई।़

1984 फेमिना मिस इंडिया, जानी मानी खूबसूरत बोल्ड माॅडल और बाॅलीवुड अभिनेत्री नेहा कपूर का जन्म हुआ।

1984 कन्नड़ फिल्मों की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री, टेलीविजन हस्ती, निर्मात्री और निर्देशिका रक्षिता का जन्म हुआ। उनका वास्तविक नाम श्वेता है।

1986 मेक्सिको के विमान 940 के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो जाने से विमान में सवार सभी 167 यात्रियों की मौत हो गई।

1987 जानी मानी भारतीय ग्रैंडमास्टर शतरंज कोनेरू हंपी का जन्म हुआ।

1988 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी तमिल एंव मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल जनानी अय्यर का जन्म, खटिवक्कम, एन्नोर में हुआ। 

1990 संविधान निर्माता डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर को मरणोपरांत सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान भारत रत्न दिया गया। अंबेडकर का निधन छह दिसंबर 1956 को हुआ था। वे जीवनभर हिंदू धर्म में व्याप्त सामाजिक भेदभाव के खिलाफ लड़ते रहे। 

1990 पोल टैक्स यानी प्रति व्यक्ति कर के खिलाफ लंदन में विरोध प्रदर्शन किया गया। विरोध करने के लिए करीब 70 हजार लोग सड़क पर थे। सौ साल के इतिहास में विरोध प्रदर्शन की ये सबसे बड़ी घटना थी। प्रदर्शन के दौरान हुई हिंसा में 113 लोग घायल हुए और करीब 340 प्रदर्शनकारियों को पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार किया।

1991 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी भारतीय बाॅलीवुड फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल पंखुरी अवस्थी का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ। इसी दिन 1991 के जॉर्जियाई स्वतंत्रता जनमत संग्रह में लगभग 99 प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने सोवियत संघ से देश की आजादी का समर्थन किया।

1994 समीरा असगरी का जन्म हुआ। समीरा 2018 से अफगानिस्तान के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ओलंपिक समिति की सदस्य हैं। 24 साल की उम्र में अपने चुनाव के बाद असगरी अफगानिस्तान की पहली प्रतिनिधि और आईओसी में शामिल होने वाली सबसे कम उम्र की सदस्यों में से एक हैं।

1995 विख्यात अमेरिकी गायिका-गीतकार, द क्वीन ऑफ टोजानो म्यूजिक सेलेना की हत्या कॉरपस क्रिस्टी, टेक्सास में उनके फैन क्लब सदस्य योलांड साल्डीवर ने की।

1997 जवाहर लाल नेहरू छात्र संघ के अध्यक्ष और बाद में भाकपा माले कार्यकर्ता, लेखक, कवि, सामाजिक, मानवाधिकार और छात्र अधिकार कार्यकर्ता काॅमरेड चंद्रशेखर प्रसाद चंदू की सीवान, बिहार जेपी चौक के पास कुछ लोगों ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी। चंद्रशेखर उस वक्त 2 अप्रैल को भाकपा माले द्वारा बुलाए गये बिहार बंद के सिलसिले में प्रचार कर रहे थे। इसी दिन वासलेव क्लार्क को नया नाटो सैनिक कमांडर नियुक्त किया गया।

1998 भारत और चीन इंटर गवर्नमेंटल कांफ्रेंस आन कल्चरल पॉलिसीज के लिए गठित यूनेस्को की मसौदा समिति के सदस्य निर्वाचित हुए। इसी दिन नेटस्केप ने ओपन सोर्स लाइसेंस के तहत मोजिला स्रोत कोड जारी किया।

2000 करीब 22 वर्ष बाद जापान के उत्तरी धोकाइडु द्वीप में दाते के निकट उसू ज्वालामुखी फिर सक्रिय हुआ।

2001 यूगोस्लाविया के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति स्लोबोदान मिलोसेविच की गिरफ्तारी के लिए पुलिस ने उनके आवास पर छापेमारी की। इसी दिन यूरोपीय मंत्रियों ने क्योटो संधि को जीवित घोषित किया।

2004 अर्जेंटीना के ब्यूनस आयर्स में एक नाइट क्लब में आग लगने से 175 लोगों की मौत हुई। 2004 में इसी दिन अनबर प्रांत, इराक फालुजा में ब्लैकवाटर यूएसए के लिए काम करने वाले चार अमेरिकी निजी सैन्य ठेकेदार इराकी विद्रोहियों द्वारा मारे गए।

2005 संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने उत्तर कोरिया को अनाज की आपूर्ति रोकी।

2007 विश्व तैराकी चैम्पियनशिप में माइकल फेल्प्स ने छह स्वर्ण हासिल किये।

2008 प्रख्यात हिंदी लेखिका कृष्णा सोबती को के.के.बिड़ला फाउंडेशन का वर्ष 2007 का व्यास सम्मान देने की घोषणा की गई। इसी के साथ रेवती मेनन को दयावती मोदी स्त्री शक्ति सम्मान, 2007 प्रदान किया गया। इसी दिन पाक वायुसेना की बस के पास हुए बम विस्फोट में 12 लोग मारे गए। 

2009 अर्जेंटीना के राष्ट्रपति रॉल अलफोन्सिन का निधन हुआ।

2011 जनगणना के आंकड़ों के मुताबिक भारत की आबादी बढ़ कर 121 करोड़ (1 अरब 21 करोड़) हो गई है। दस साल पहले हुई गणना के मुकाबले यह 17.64 फीसदी ज्यादा थी।

2014 अंटार्कटिका में सभी व्हेलिंग गतिविधियों को रोकने के आदेश को संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने इंटरनेशनल कोर्ट ऑफ जस्टिस द्वारा दिए गए आदेश को स्वीकार किया।

2015 प्रसिद्ध चेक-अंग्रेजी इतिहासकार, लेखक और अकादमिक डेलिबोर वेस्ली का निधन हुआ।

2016 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा के अंतरिक्ष यात्री स्कॉट केली और रूसी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी रोस्कोस्मोस के अंतरिक्ष यात्री मिखाइल कोर्निएन्को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन पर एक साल के लंबे मिशन के बाद पृथ्वी पर लौटे।

2018 अर्मेनियाई क्रांति (मेरझिरसेरजिन) आर्मेनिया की सरकार में सबसे शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति सर्ज सरगस्यान के लगातार तीसरे कार्यकाल के विरोध में अर्मेनियाई लोगों ने व्यापक विरोध प्रदर्शन शुरु किए।

2020 प्रसिद्ध युगांडाई-दक्षिण अफ्रीकी वैज्ञानिक और शोधकर्ता गीता रामजी का निधन हुआ।

2021 प्रसिद्ध बांग्लादेशी शिक्षक और सांसद मुहम्मद वक्कास का इंतकाल हुआ।

2022 न्यूजीलैंड की प्रमुख संविधान विशेषज्ञ और अधिवक्ता मोआना जैक्सन का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी ऑल-अमेरिकन गर्ल्स प्रोफेशनल बेसबॉल लीग (एएजीपीबीएल) खिलाड़ी शर्ली बुर्कोविच का निधन हुआ।

2023 व्यापक, घातक और ऐतिहासिक, बवंडर के प्रकोप ने मार्च के आखिरी दिन और अप्रैल के पहले दिन मध्य-पश्चिमी, दक्षिणी और पूर्वी संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के बड़े हिस्से को प्रभावित किया। यह अतिरिक्त उष्णकटिबंधीय चक्रवात का परिणाम था जिसने ऊपरी हिस्से में बर्फीले तूफान की स्थिति भी पैदा की। मध्य पश्चिम स्टॉर्म प्रेडिक्शन सेंटर (एसपीसी) ने 31 मार्च को मिसिसिपी घाटी के दो क्षेत्रों में गंभीर मौसम के लिए एक दुर्लभ उच्च जोखिम चेतावनी जारी की जो 25 मार्च, 2021 के बाद पहली उच्च जोखिम चेतावनी थी। कई पीडीएस सहित लगभग 28 मिलियन लोगों को बवंडर निगरानी में रखा गया था। 31 मार्च की शाम से लेकर रात भर और 1 अप्रैल की सुबह तक बवंडर आते रहे।

On March 31, 32 BC, Titus Pomponius Atticus (wife's name Pilea or Pilea), prominent Roman editor, banker, and patron of letters, died in Rome.

307 Roman Emperor Constantine, after divorcing his wife Minervina, married Fausta, daughter of retired Roman Emperor Maximian.

627 A confederation of Muslim-Quraysh tribes began the siege of Yathrib (now Medina) against Muhammad (the main Islamic prophet Hazrat Muhammad) and his army.

1146 Bernard, the French abbot of Clairvaux, preaches a sermon to a gathering of people at odds with King Louis VII, urging the need for a second crusade.

1867 Prarthana Samaj was established in Mumbai. Due to the prevailing inequality, discrimination, exploitation and oppression in Hindu religion, the condition of majority of Dalits, tribals and backward people was very bad, which led to humble criticism of the religious leaders of Hindu religion. Christian missionaries were engaged in social service work due to which many people were influenced by Christianity. This increased the concern of the followers of Hindu religion, then Prarthana Samaj was established with the aim of making some reforms and doing some social service work in the name of saving Hindu religion.

1870 For the first time in America, a black citizen voted. Thomas Patterson-Mundy of New Jersey became the first black person to vote after the 15th Amendment to the US Constitution.

1906 Kodandera Subaiah Thimayya, famous Indian military officer, was born in Mediceri. Thimayya was the Chief of the Army Staff of India from 8 May 1957 to 07 May 1961. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1954 for his significant contribution to the administrative services sector.

1917 The United States purchased the Danish West Indies and renamed it the Virgin Islands.

1918 Armed groups allied with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Bolsheviks carried out a massacre of ethnic Azerbaijanis, killing about 12 thousand Azerbaijani Muslims.

1945 Meira Kumar, daughter of Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram, famous politician, first woman Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Minister, was born.

1948 Albert Arnold Gore Jr. was born in Washington, DC, an influential American politician, businessman, environmentalist, and 45th Vice President of the United States, serving under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001.

1959 Buddhist cleric Dalai Lama (real names Lhamo Thondup and Gyalwa Rinpoche) is granted asylum in India after exile from Tibet. On March 31, 1959, Tibetan religious leader Dalai Lama reached India from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. In early March 1959, news spread that China was going to take the Dalai Lama hostage to Beijing. After this, the rebellion against China started in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, from 10 March 1959. About 30,000 Tibetans gathered outside the Dalai Lama's palace, forming a human wall to stop the Chinese army. The Chinese army had to use cannon and machine guns to remove the people. People were beaten badly. It is said that the Dalai Lama's bodyguards were killed. By the time the Chinese army entered the palace after a struggle that lasted for several days, the Dalai Lama had fled from there. He reached India on 17 March, 15 days after leaving Lhasa with 20 disciples. India gave him political protection. From then till today he is in India only. He resides in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh and the entire Tibetan government operates in Dharamshala, for the operation of which the Government of India gives huge amount every year.

1950 Haldhar Nag was born. Nag is a poet and writer of Kosali language of Orissa. The special thing about Haldhar, known as Lokkavi Ratna, is that he knows all the poems and 20 epics written by him by heart. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2016 from President Pranab Mukherjee.

1962 Tamil film actor Ramakrishnan, known as Ramki, was born in Sattur.

1963 Sujatha Mohan, a famous song singer in many languages like Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada etc., was born in Kochi.

1964 Electric trams ran for the last time in Bombay.

1966 Soviet Russia launches the first lunar mission Luna 10.

1972 Noted Indian actress Meena Kumari passed away. In February 1972, the film Pakeezah starring Meena Kumari was released. She fell ill a few days later. There was a problem with his liver. It is said that the reason for this was his excessive drinking and excessive stress. His disease proved fatal. He had suffered a lot since childhood. It is said that his parents left him in an orphanage as soon as he was born. But he had to be brought back because of family and society. Many people including Kamal Amrohi exploited him a lot. Meena Kumari had done dozens of successful films like Baiju Bawra, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan, Mere Apne, Bahu Begum. She was called the tragedy queen of Bollywood. A few years later, in 1964, both of them married again. After this Meena Kumari became addicted to alcohol. Kamal Amrohi made his dream film Pakeezah with Meena Kumari. It took 16 years to build it. Pakeezah was liked by the audience as soon as it was released, but Meena Kumari did not live even for 126 days to see the success of this 126-minute film. Meena Kumari was born on August 1, 1932 and her name was Mehjabeen Bano. Apart from being a brilliant actress, she was also an excellent poet.

1979 Famous Singaporean, Nepali and American fashion designer Prabal Gurung was born in Singapore. On this day Malta declared independence from Britain.

1980 America's great sprinter Jesse Owens passed away. Owens won four gold medals for his country at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.

1981 Four of the five Indonesian terrorists who hijacked a domestic plane were killed in Bangkok, Thailand. All 55 people on board the plane remained safe. Terrorists had hijacked the plane on March 28 to release 80 people imprisoned in Indonesian jails and took it to Bangkok.

1983: 500 people died in a devastating earthquake in the city of Popayán, Colombia.

1984 Femina Miss India, famous beautiful bold model and Bollywood actress Neha Kapoor was born.

1984 Rakshita, a beautiful and bold popular Kannada film actress, television personality, producer and director, was born. Her real name is Shweta.

1986 Mexican Airlines Flight 940 crashes, killing all 167 passengers on board.

1987 Koneru Humpy, famous Indian chess grandmaster, was born.

1988 Beautiful, bold, well-known Tamil and Malayalam film actress and model Janani Iyer was born in Khativakkam, Ennore.

1990 Constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was posthumously given the highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna. Ambedkar died on 6 December 1956. He continued fighting against the social discrimination prevalent in Hinduism throughout his life.

1990 Protests were held in London against the poll tax i.e. per capita tax. About 70 thousand people were on the streets to protest. This was the biggest incident of protest in the hundred years' history. 113 people were injured in the violence during the demonstration and about 340 protesters were arrested by the police.

1991 Beautiful, bold, well-known Indian Bollywood film and television actress and model Pankhuri Awasthi was born in Lucknow. On the same day, in the 1991 Georgian independence referendum, approximately 99 percent of voters supported the country's independence from the Soviet Union.

1994 Sameera Asghari was born. Samira has been a member of the International Olympic Committee for Afghanistan since 2018. Following her election at the age of 24, Asghari became Afghanistan's first representative and one of the youngest members to join the IOC.

1995 Famous American singer-songwriter, The Queen of Tojano Music Selena, was murdered by her fan club member Yolanda Saldivar in Corpus Christi, Texas.

1997 Comrade Chandrashekhar Prasad Chandu, President of Jawaharlal Nehru Student Union and later CPI(ML) activist, writer, poet, social, human rights and student rights activist, was shot dead by some people near JP Chowk, Siwan, Bihar. At that time, Chandrashekhar was campaigning in connection with the Bihar bandh called by CPI(ML) on April 2. On the same day Vaslav Clark was appointed the new NATO military commander.

1998 Elected member of UNESCO's drafting committee constituted for India and China Inter-Governmental Conference on Cultural Policies. On the same day, Netscape released the Mozilla source code under an open source license.

2004 A fire at a nightclub in Buenos Aires, Argentina, kills 175 people. On this day in 2004, four American private military contractors working for Blackwater USA were killed by Iraqi insurgents in Fallujah, Anbar Province, Iraq.

2020 Renowned Ugandan-South African scientist and researcher Geeta Ramji passes away.

2021 Famous Bangladeshi teacher and MP Muhammad Waqqas passed away.

2022 New Zealand's leading constitutional expert and lawyer Moana Jackson passes away. On this day, famous American All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) player Shirley Burkovich passed away.

2023 Widespread, deadly, and historic, tornado outbreak affected large portions of the Midwestern, Southern, and Eastern United States on the last day of March and the first day of April. This was the result of an extratropical cyclone that also produced snowstorm conditions over the upper reaches. The Midwest Storm Prediction Center (SPC) issued a rare high risk warning for severe weather in two areas of the Mississippi Valley on March 31, the first high risk warning since March 25, 2021. About 28 million people, including many PDs, were placed under tornado watches. Tornadoes continued to occur throughout the night from the evening of March 31 and into the morning of April 1.
