673 जापान के नए सम्राट तेनमू ने असुका स्थित कियोमिहारा महल में गुलदाउदी सिंहासन ग्रहण किया।

1206 माइकल चतुर्थ ऑटोरेयानोस को कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल का वैश्विक चांसलर नियुक्त किया गया।

1351 गयासुद्दीन तुगलक के पुत्र और दिल्ली के मशहूर सुल्तान हुए मोहम्मद बिन तुगलक की मृत्यु पाकिस्तान के सिंध प्रदेश के ठट्ठा में हुई।

1600 लिंकोपिंग ब्लडबाथ में 5 स्वीडिश रईसों का सिर काटकर सार्वजनिक रूप से मृत्युदंड दिया गया। माना गया कि यह लोग स्वीडन के राजा सिगिस्मंड तृतीय वासा के खिलाफ साजिशों में शामिल थे। ये पांचों कैथोलिक सिगिस्मंड के सलाहकार या उसके चाचा और प्रतिद्वंद्वी, स्वीडिश रीजेंट ड्यूक चार्ल्स के राजनीतिक प्रतिद्वंद्वी थे।

1602 यूनाइटेड डच ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की स्थापना हुई।

1615 मुगल बादशाह शाहजहां और उनकी बेगम मुमताज महल के सबसे बड़े पुत्र दारा शिकोह का जन्म हुआ। पिता के बाद दारा ही सिंहासन के उत्तराधिकारी थे, लेकिन शाहजहां के अस्वस्थ होने के बाद औरंगजेब ने पिता और दारा शिकोह को किनारे कर आगरा में कैद कर दिया। 1959 में औरंगजेब ने दारा शिकोह की हत्या करवा दी।

1616 सर वाल्टर रैले को 13 साल की कैद के बाद टॉवर ऑफ लंदन से रिहा किया गया। सर वाल्टर रैले अंग्रेज राजनेता, सैनिक, लेखक और खोजकर्ता थे। एलिजाबेथन युग की सबसे उल्लेखनीय हस्तियों में से एक, उन्होंने उत्तरी अमेरिका के अंग्रेजी उपनिवेशीकरण में अग्रणी भूमिका निभाई, आयरलैंड में विद्रोह को दबाया, स्पेनिश आर्मडा के खिलाफ इंग्लैंड की रक्षा में मदद की और एलिजाबेथ प्रथम के तहत राजनीतिक पदों पर रहे।

1739 दिल्ली की सत्ता पर फारस के बादशाह नादिर शाह अफ्शार ने कब्जा किया।

1800 अलेसांद्रों वोल्टा ने इलेक्ट्रिक बैटरी की खोज के बारे में सूचना दी।

1815 एल्बा से भागने के बाद नेपोलियन ने 140,000 की नियमित सेना और लगभग 200,000 की स्वयंसेवी सेना के साथ पेरिस में प्रवेश किया, और अपने सौ दिन शासन की शुरुआत की।

1933 जर्मन तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर के शीर्ष सैन्य सहयोगी हेनरिक हिमलर ने यातनाग्रहों के निर्माण का आदेश दिया, जिनमें लाखों यहूदियों, जर्मनों की हत्या की गई।

1939 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड चरित्र अभिनेता सुधीर दल्वी का जन्म ठाणे में हुआ। इन्होंने रामानंद सागर के धारावाहिक रामायण में गुरु वशिष्ठ और मनोज कुमार की शिरडी के साईं बाबा में साईं बाबा की भूमिका निभाई।

1943 भारत के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी नेता एस. सत्यमूर्ति का निधन हुआ।

1950 भारत की प्रमुख अमीर महिला कारोबारी, कांग्रेस नेत्री, ओ. पी. जिंदल समूह की मुखिया, अग्रोहा स्थित महाराजा अग्रसेन मेडिकल कालेज की अध्यक्षा सावित्री जिंदल का जन्म तिनसुकिया में हुआ। भारत के प्रमुख कारोबारी, उद्योगपति नवीन जिंदल, सज्जन जिंदल और पृथ्वीराज जिंदल इन्हीं के पुत्र हैं।

1951 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी मदन लाल का अमृतसर में जन्म हुआ।

1952 टेनिस खिलाड़ी आनंद अमृतराज का जन्म हुआ।

1966 उन्नाव से भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता, विधायक और बलात्कार तथा हत्या मामले में बदनाम कुलदीप सिंह सेंगर का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन प्रख्यात भारतीय गायिका अलका याग्निक का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन लंदन के वेस्टमिनिस्टर के सेंट्रल हॉल में प्रदर्शनी के लिए रखा गया फुटबॉल वर्ल्ड कप 1966 में चोरी हुआ।

1968 हावरे डी ग्रेस, मैरीलैंड, अमेरिका में अल्ट्रा नैट वाइचे का जन्म हुआ। अल्ट्रा नैट लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी गायिका, गीत लेखिका, रिकॉर्ड निर्माता, डीजे और प्रमोटर हैं, जिन्होंने फ्री, इफ यू कुड रीड माई माइंड, ऑटोमैटिक जैसे गानों के साथ पॉप चार्ट पर सफलता हासिल की। 

1969 अपने पहले उपन्यास मद्रास ऑन रैनी डे से चर्चा में आई भारतीय मूल की अँग्रेजी भाषा की अमेरिकी कथाकार और उपन्यासकार समीना अली का हैदराबाद में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रिचर्ड निक्सन ने वियतनाम युद्ध की समाप्ति की घोषणा की। अमेरिका वियतनाम और अमेरिका का काफी नुक्सान कर, हारकर वापस लौटा।

1970 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और राजनेता संविधान सभा के सदस्य और प्रसिद्ध हॉकी खिलाड़ी जयपाल सिंह मुंडा का निधन हुआ। जयपाल सिंह मुंडा भारतीय आदिवासियों और झारखंड आंदोलन के एक सर्वोच्च नेता थे। एक जाने माने राजनीतिज्ञ, पत्रकार, लेखक, संपादक, शिक्षाविद् और 1925 में ऑक्सफोर्ड ब्लू का खिताब पाने वाले हॉकी के एकमात्र अंतरराष्ट्रीय खिलाड़ी थे। उनकी कप्तानी में 1928 के ओलिंपिक में भारत ने पहला स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त किया।

1972 जम्मू-कश्मीर के प्रमुख राजनेता प्रेमनाथ डोगरा का निधन हुआ।

1973 प्रमुख भारतीय गोल्फ खिलाड़ी अर्जुन अटवाल का जन्म हुआ।

1977 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड और जानी मानी माॅडल, फिल्म अभिनेत्री और रेडियो जाॅकी गायत्री जोशी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1977 में प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी की लोकसभा चुनाव में पराजय हुईं।

1987 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने अपने अंतरिक्ष अभियान पाला बी 2 पी की शुरुआत की।

1981 अर्जेंटीना के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति इसाबेल पेरोन को आठ वर्ष की सजा हुई।

1986 जानी मानी बोल्ड एवं खूबसूरत तेलुगू और अमेरिकी अंग्रेजी फिल्म अभिनेत्री रिचा गंगोपाध्याय लंगेला का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1987 अमेरिकी सरकार द्वारा एड्स के इलाज के लिए दी जाने वाली पहली दवा एजेडटी को फूड एंड ड्रग एडमिनिशट्रेशन ने मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन 1987 में बहुचर्चित भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री कंगना राणावत का जन्म हुआ। कंगना आजकल मोदी एंड कंपनी या आरएसएस की सांप्रदायिक राजनीति का टूल हैं और काफी विभाजनकारी, विकृत वक्तव्य देती रहती हैं।

1991 बेगम खालिदा जिया बांग्लादेश की राष्ट्रपति बनी।

1995 टोक्यो में भूमिगत रेल मार्ग में विषैली गैस के लीक होने से लगभग 15 लोगों की जान गई और हजारों लोग घायल हुए।

1999 प्रख्यात ब्रिटिश चित्रकार पैट्रिक हेरोन का निधन हुआ।

2003 इराक पर अमेरिका ने हमला शुरू किया।

2006 अफगानिस्तान के विदेश मंत्री ने दावा किया कि अलकायदा प्रमुख ओसामा बिन लादेन पाकिस्तान में छिपा है।

2008 प्रसिद्ध दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता सोभन बाबू का निधन हुआ।

2009 वरिष्ठ जज न्यायमूर्ति चन्द्रमौली कुमार प्रसाद को इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय का न्यायधीश नियुक्त किया गया।

2010 गौरैया चिड़िया को बचाने के लिए पहली बार विश्व गौरैया दिवस मनाया गया। इसी दिन 2010 में नेपाल सरकार ने गिरिजा प्रसाद कोईराला के सम्मान में राष्ट्रीय शोक दिवस घोषित किया जिनका 86 वर्ष की आयु में काठमांडू में निधन हुआ।

2011 सिडनी आॅस्ट्रेलिया में जन्मे प्रसिद्ध इंजीनियर भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता बोब क्रिस्टो का निधन बंगलौर में हुआ।

2013 बांग्लादेश के राष्ट्रपति जियाउर रहमान का 84 वर्ष की आयु में सिंगापुर के एक अस्पताल में लंबी बीमारी के बाद निधन हो गया। बांग्लादेश सरकार ने 3 दिन का शोक घोषित किया।

2014 भारत के प्रसिद्ध पत्रकार, लेखक, संपादक, उपन्यासकार और इतिहासकार, भारतीय विदेश सेवा अधिकारी खुशवंत सिंह का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन 2014 में बुल्गारिया के प्रसिद्ध सूमो पहलवान, कोतोशू, ने खेल गतिविधियों से सन्यास की घोषणा की। उन्होंने 2008 में सम्राट कप जीता और अपने करियर के दौरान ओजेकी की दूसरी सर्वोच्च रैंक हासिल की।

2015 ऑस्ट्रेलिया के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री मैल्कम फ्रेजर का निधन हुआ।

2020 दिसंबर 16, 2012 को दिल्ली में हुए निर्भया गैंगरेप के चार दोषियों को फांसी दी गई। 19 मार्च को आधी रात के बाद सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने इन चारों दोषियों की आखिरी याचिका को खारिज कर दिया था। इसके बाद 20 मार्च को सुबह 5 बजकर 15 मिनट पर चारों दोषियों को फांसी पर चढ़ाया गया था। इन चार दोषियों के नाम थे- अक्षय ठाकुर, पवन गुप्ता, विनय शर्मा और मुकेश सिंह। आजाद भारत के इतिहास में पहली बार चार दोषियों को एकसाथ फांसी दी गई थी। बलात्कार और हत्या की इस जघन्यतम घटना में दिल्ली में 23 वर्षीय एक पैरामेडिकल स्टूडेंट के साथ 6 लोगों ने चलती बस में गैंगरेप किया था। छह आरोपियों में से एक नाबालिग था और उसे जुवेनाइल जस्टिस कानून के तहत तीन साल जुवेनाइल होम में रहने की सजा दी गई थी, जो 2015 में रिहा हो गया था। एक अन्य आरोपी राम सिंह ने मुकदमे की सुनवाई के दौरान तिहाड़ जेल में खुदकुशी कर ली थी। 

2022 महाराष्ट्र में सत्तारूढ़ शिवसेना के राज्य सभा सांसद और शिवसेना के मुखपत्र मराठी दैनिक सामना के एक्जीक्यूटिव एडीटर संजय राजाराम राउत ने रविवार को भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) पर गुजरात और राजस्थान के आगामी विधानसभा चुनावों को ध्यान में रखते हुए फिल्म द कश्मीर फाइल्स का प्रचार करने का आरोप लगाया। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि फिल्म में कई कड़वी सच्चाइयों को दबाने का प्रयास किया गया है। राउत ने शिवसेना के मुखपत्र सामना में अपने साप्ताहिक कॉलम रोकटोक में लिखा कि कश्मीर में विस्थापित कश्मीरी पंडितों की वापसी सुनिश्चित करना भाजपा का वादा था, लेकिन अनुच्छेद-370 के निरस्त होने के बावजूद ऐसा नहीं हुआ है। शिवसेना सांसद ने सवाल उठाया कि यह किसकी नाकामी है ? इसी दिन खबर आई कि गरीबों का जीना दूभर कर चुकी मोदी सरकार की योजना आगे चीनी को महंगा करने की है। मोदी सरकार का जोर है कि चीनी का उत्पादन कम किया जाए और पेट्रोल एवं डीजल ईंधन के लिए चीनी मिलों में इथेनॉल का अधिक उत्पादन किया जाए। चीनी कम मात्रा में होगी तो वह ग्राहकों को महंगी मिलेगी। नितिन गडकरी, केंद्रीय सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री ने चीनी और संबद्ध उद्योगों के प्रमुखों को चेतावनी दी है कि यदि चीनी का उत्पादन अभी की तरह आगे भी बढ़ता रहा, तो यह आने वाले समय में उद्योग के लिए हानिकारक होगा। उन्होंने चीनी मिलों को बदलते समय की वास्तविकताओं और राष्ट्र की आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप चीनी को इथेनॉल में बदलने की अपील की है। यह स्मरण कराते हुए कि एक देश के रूप में, हम चावल-अधिशेष, मक्का-अधिशेष और चीनी-अधिशेष हैं, गडकरी ने कहा कि हमारे भविष्य के लिए चीनी का उत्पादन कम करना और इथेनॉल का उत्पादन बढ़ाना बेहतर है। नितिन गडकरी ने 20 मार्च को चीनी और इथेनॉल भारत सम्मेलन (एसईआईसी) 2022 को संबोधित करते हुए भारत में एक अधिक नवोन्मेषी और स्थिर चीनी और इथेनॉल क्षेत्र का निर्माण करने की भविष्य की योजना पर चर्चा करने के लिए घरेलू और वैश्विक उद्योग के विख्यात विशेषज्ञों को एक साथ लाने की इच्छा जताई। गडकरी ने बताया कि किस प्रकार एथेनॉल का अर्थशास्त्र डीजल या पेट्रोल द्वारा संचालित वाहनों से उत्कृष्ट है। उन्होंने कहा कि हमने फ्लेक्स इंजन पर परामर्शी यानी एडवाइजरी जारी की है। टोयोटा, हुंडई और सुजुकी ने मुझे आश्वासन दिया है कि वे छह महीने के भीतर फ्लेक्स इंजन लाएंगे। गडकरी ने कहा, हाल ही में, हमने ग्रीन हाइड्रोजन से चलने वाली पायलट कार लॉन्च की है। टोयोटा अध्यक्ष ने मुझे बताया कि उनकी कार फ्लेक्स है- या तो 100 प्रतिशत पेट्रोल या 100 प्रतिशत इथेनॉल और आने वाले दिनों में टोयोटा कारों को हाइब्रिड बिजली पर चलाया जाएगा, जो 40 प्रतिशत बिजली उत्पादित करेगी तथा 100 प्रतिशत इथेनॉल का उपयोग करके 60 प्रतिशत दूरी तय करेगी।

2023 खालिस्तानी नेता और खालिस्तानी विचारधारा के संगठन वारिस पंजाब दे के मुखिया अमृतपाल सिंह के चाचा और वाहन चालक ने जालंधर में पुलिस के समक्ष आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया, जबकि अमृतपाल अभी फरार है। पंजाब पुलिस ने सोमवार को कहा कि उसने अमृतपाल सिंह के संगठन वारिस पंजाब दे से जुड़े 5 व्यक्तियों के खिलाफ सख्त राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा कानून (रासुका) लगाया है।

1600 Five Swedish nobles were publicly executed by beheading in the Linköping Bloodbath. It was believed that these people were involved in conspiracies against King Sigismund III Vasa of Sweden. All five were Catholic advisers to Sigismund or political rivals of his uncle and rival, the Swedish regent Duke Charles.

1602 United Dutch East India Company established.

1615 Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal emperor Shahjahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal, was born. Dara was the heir to the throne after his father, but after Shahjahan became unwell, Aurangzeb sidelined his father and Dara Shikoh and imprisoned him in Agra.
