272 नाइसस, मोइसिया, रोमन साम्राज्य में कॉन्स्टेंटाइन (कॉन्स्टेंटाइन द ग्रेट, निधन 22 मई 337) का जन्म हुआ। 306 ई. से 337 ई. तक एक रोमन सम्राट रहा और ईसाई धर्म अपनाने वाला पहला रोमन सम्राट था। कॉन्स्टेंटाइन ने रोम में ईसाई धर्म की स्थिति को ऊपर उठाने, ईसाई प्रथा को अपराधमुक्त करने और कॉन्स्टेंटिनियन शिफ्ट के रूप में संदर्भित अवधि में ईसाई उत्पीड़न को रोकने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। कॉन्स्टेंटाइन धार्मिक-राजनीतिक विचारधारा के प्रवर्तक भी है कॉन्स्टेंटिनिज्म कहा जाता है, जो चर्च और राज्य के अलगाव के विपरीत, चर्च और राज्य की एकता का प्रतीक है।

380 इसाई धर्म रोमन साम्राज्य के राजकीय धर्म के रूप में स्वीकृत किया गया।

907 एक खेतान सरदार, अबाउजी ने उत्तरी चीन में लियाओ राजवंश की स्थापना की और सम्राट तैजू के रूप में स्वयं को प्रतिष्ठित किया।

1557 लंदन में रूस ने अपना दूतावास शुरु किया।

1594 हेनरी चतुर्थ फ्रांस के राजा बने।

1816 डचों ने नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट के पतन के बाद फ्रांस से पुनः सूरीनाम वापस ले लिया।

1854 अंग्रेजों ने रानी लक्ष्मी बाई को हराकर झांसी पर कब्जा किया।

1879 आर्टिफिशियल स्वीटनर सैकरीन की खोज रूसी रसायनशास्त्री कोस्तांतिन फालबर्ग ने की थी। कोल तार के पदार्थों पर शोध करने के दौरान उनके हाथ में किसी पदार्थ की मिठास रह गई। इस पदार्थ को उन्होंने सैकरिन नाम दिया। यह व्यावसायिक रूप से उपलब्ध होने वाला पहला कृत्रिम मिठास देने वाला पदार्थ था।

1882 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी विजय सिंह पथिक का जन्म हुआ।

1902 विख्यात अमेरिकी लेखक जॉन स्टाइनबेक का जन्म हुआ।

1912 जाने माने ब्रिटिश उपन्यासकार, कवि एवं नाटककार लौरेंस ड्यूरेल का जन्म जालंधर, पंजाब में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने मराठी कवि, लेखक, नाटककार विष्णु वामन शिरवाडकर यानी कुसुमाग्रज का जन्म हुआ।

1915 प्रभावशाली पाकिस्तानी राजनीतिज्ञ, सिंध प्रदेश के राज्यपाल रहे मोहम्मद दिलावर खानजी का जन्म गुजरात के जूनागढ़ राजघराने में हुआ।

1921 वियना में इंटरनेशनल वर्किंग यूनियन आॅफ सोशलिस्ट पार्टी की स्थापना हुई।

1925 कांग्रेस के प्रमुख नेता और मध्य प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री रहे श्यामा चरण शुक्ल का जन्म हुआ।

1931 क्रांतिकारी चंद्रशेखर आजाद यानी सीताराम तिवारी ने इलाहाबाद के अल्फ्रेड पार्क में ब्रिटिश पुलिस के साथ मुठभेड़ में गिरफ्तारी से बचने के लिए खुद को गोली मार ली।

1932 ब्रिटिश भौतिकशास्त्री सर जेम्स चैडविक ने न्यूट्रॉन की खोज की। अणु में प्रोटॉन और न्यूट्रॉन मिलकर अणु का केंद्रक बनाते हैं। इलेक्ट्रॉन इस केंद्रक के चारों तरफ चक्कर लगाते हैं। इस खोज के बाद अणु के केंद्रक को अलग करना संभव हुआ, जिससे परमाणु बम बनाने की राह प्रशस्त हुई। इस खोज के लिए उन्हें 1935 में फिजिक्स का नोबल पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

1934 विख्यात उड़िया, अंग्रेजी कवि, लेखक, यात्री सरस्वती, पद्भूषण, पद्मश्री सम्मान प्राप्त मनोज दास का जन्म बालासौर में हुआ।

1936 जानी मानी अमेरिकी लेखिका, फेमिनिस्ट एक्टिविस्ट सोनिया जाॅन्सन का जन्म मलाड सिटी, इडाहो, अमेरिका में हुआ।

1939 अंतिम निजाम हैदराबाद के बेटे शहजादे कर्नल मुफाखान जाह यानी मीर करामत अली खान सिद्दीकी का जन्म नाइस, फ्रांस में हुआ।

1940 अमेरिकी जैव रसायनविद मार्टिन कामेन और सैम रूबेन ने रेडियोधर्मी आइसोटोप कार्बन -14 की खोज की, जिसका इस्तेमाल पुरातात्विक, भूविज्ञान और जलविज्ञानीय नमूनों की जांच हेतु किया जाता है।

1941 जाने माने ब्रिटिश राजनीतिज्ञ पैड्डी ऐशडाउन यानी जेरेमी जाॅह्न डर्हम ऐशडाउन का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1943 कर्नाटक के विवादित भाजपा नेता और मुख्यमंत्री रहे बीएस येदियुरप्पा का जन्म हुआ।

1951 अमेरिकी संविधान में 22वां संशोधन कर तय किया गया कि कोई भी व्यक्ति सिर्फ दो कार्यकाल तक ही राष्ट्रपति बन सकता है। इससे पहले यहां कोई भी कितनी भी बार चुनाव लड़ सकता था।

1952 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक प्रकाश झाा का जन्म हुआ।

1968 अमेरिकी रॉक एंड रोल रिदम और ब्लूज गायक और गीतकार, न्यूयॉर्क शहर के बॉय सोप्रानो (प्रारंभिक रॉक एंड रोल डू-वॉप समूह द टीनएजर्स) प्रमुख गायक फ्रैंकलिन जोसेफ लिमन का 25 वर्ष की आयु में हेरोइन के सेवन से निधन हुआ।

1971 पंजाब नेशनल बैंक से हजारों करोड़ की धोखाधड़ी कर विदेश भागे नीरव मोदी का जन्म हुआ। वह आजकल लंदन जेल में है और बेल्जियम की नागरिकता प्राप्त है।

1974 प्रतिष्ठित अमेरिकी साप्ताहिक समाचार पत्रिका पीपुल की 1974 से बिक्री शुरू हुई।

1976 कर्नाटक के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री तथा मध्य प्रदेश के राज्यपाल रहे के. सी. रेड्डी का निधन हुआ।

1986 हरियाणा के जाने माने भारतीय हाॅकी खिलाड़ी, जजपा-भाजपा मनोहर लाल खट्टर सरकार में खेल मंत्री रहे और यौन शोषण के आरोपों के बाद इस्तीफा देने वाले संदीप सिंह का जन्म शाहबाद में हुआ।

1988 भारत में पहली बार हेलीकॉप्टर डाक सेवा का उद्घाटन किया गया।

1991 इराक पर एकतरफा हमलों, जिसे खाड़ी युद्ध कहा गया के अंत में, अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जार्ज बुश ने इराक पर विजय की घोषणा की और संघर्ष विराम का आदेश दिया।

1992 जानी मानी माॅडल, अभिनेत्री, इंजीनियर, कारोबारी और फेमिना मिस इंडिया 2012 वान्या मिश्रा का जन्म जालंधर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1996 मीडिया पोकेमॉन को वीडियो गेम पॉकेट मॉन्स्टर्स आका और मिडोरी के पहले संस्करण के साथ लॉन्च किया गया।

1997 इंदीवर के नाम से प्रसिद्ध भारतीय हिंदी फिल्मी गीतकार श्यामलाल बाबू राय का निधन हुआ। 1924 की 1 जनवरी को इनका झांसी में जन्म हुआ था। इन्होंने बहुत लोकप्रिय हिंदी फिल्मी गीतों की रचना की।

1999 नाइजीरिया में असैन्य शासन के लिए चुनाव हुए।

2001 गोधरा, गुजरात में अयोध्या से वपास आ रहे कारसेवकों के रेल के डिब्बे में आग लगने से 59 हिन्दू कारसेवकों की मौत हुई, इसके बाद शुरु हुई सत्ता समर्थित मुस्लिमों के खिलाफ हिंसा कई दिन जारी रही। मुस्लिमों का नरसंहार हुआ और भारी पैमाने पर उनकी संपत्ति लूटी और नष्ट की गई, मुस्लिम महिलाओं से बलात्कार हुआ। मुस्लिम विरोधी हिंसा में मोदी सरकार में मंत्री माया कोडनानी और बाबू बजरंगी सहित तमाम भाजपा नेता, कार्यकर्ता शामिल थे। मुस्लिम विरोधी हिंसा के दौरान पुलिस और प्रशासन को चुप रहने, कुछ न करने के मौखिक आदेश थे।

2004 फिलीपींस में एक आतंकवादी ने एक नाव को बम से उडा दिया जिसमें लगभग 100 से ज्यादा लोग मारे गये। 2004 जॉन जे रिपोर्ट का प्रारंभिक संस्करण, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में कैथोलिक यौन शोषण घोटाले के विवरण के साथ जारी किया गया था।

2005 रूस की विख्यात टेनिस खिलाड़ी मारिया युरयेव्ना शारापोवा ने कतर ओपन टेनिस खिताब जीता।

2007 लान्साना कोयटे गुयाना के नये प्रधानमंत्री बने।

2008 सातवें वर्ष भी विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए 25 महिलाओं को जी.आर-8 सम्मान प्रदान किये गये।

2008 पाकिस्तान सरकार ने प्रधानमंत्री रहीं बेनजीर भुट्टो के शौहर आसिफ अली जरदारी के विरुद्ध लगाये गए भ्रष्टाचार के सभी आरोप वापस लिए। 2008 में इसी दिन जेमाह इस्लामिया आतंकवादी मास सेलामत कस्तारी सिंगापुर के एक हिरासत केंद्र से भाग गया। वह मलेशिया के जोहोर में छिपा और दो साल बाद पकड़ा गया।

2009 अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने अपनी लखनऊ लोकसभा सीट का उत्तराधिकार पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता लाल जी टंडन को सौंपा।

2010 भारत ने आठवीं राष्ट्रमंडल निशानेबाजी प्रतियोगिता में 35 स्वर्ण, 25 रजत और 14 काँस्य सहित कुल 74 पदक जीतकर प्रथम स्थान हासिल किया। इंग्लैंड चार स्वर्ण सहित 31 पदक जीतकर दूसरे स्थान पर और वेल्स चार स्वर्ण सहित 13 पदक जीतकर तीसरे स्थान पर रहा। ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने तीन स्वर्ण सहित 19 पदक जीतकर चौथा स्थान हासिल किया। इसी दिन 2010 में राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के नेता और विचारक नानाजी देशमुख का निधन हुआ।

2013 पश्चिम बंगाल के कोलकाता में एक बाजार में आग लगने से 20 लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन स्विट्जरलैंड के मेन्जनाउ में एक फैक्ट्री में गोलीबारी हुई, जिसमें अपराधी सहित पांच लोग मारे गए और पांच अन्य घायल हो गए।

2015 प्रसिद्ध रूसी राजनीतिज्ञ बोरिस नेमत्सोव की मास्को में हत्या कर दी गयी।़ वह उस वक्त अपनी प्रेमिका के साथ टहल रहे थे।

2019 पाकिस्तान वायु सेना जेएफ-17 थंडर ने हवाई लड़ाई में भारतीय पायलट अभिनंदन वर्धमान के मिग -21 पाकिस्तानी सीमा में घुसने पर मार गिराया और अभिनंदन को पकड़ लिया। असल में विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो कर विमान जब गिरा तो गांव के लोगों ने उन्हें पकड़कर पीटना शुरु कर दिया। तभी मौके पर ग्राम प्रधान ने पहुंच कर उन्हें बचाया और सेना के आने पर उन्हें सौंप दिया। दो दिन बाद पाकिस्तान ने उन्हें सकुशल लौटा दिया। इसी दिन 2010 में चिली के मध्य भागों में 8.8 तीव्रता का भूकंप आया, जिसमें 500 से अधिक लोग मारे गये और हजारों घायल हुए। भूकंप से सुनामी उत्पन्न हुई जिसने हवाई में तबाही मचाई।

2021 ताई वाई हांगकांग में रिचर्ड एनजी मैन-टैट का निधन हुआ। उन्हें अंकल टैट कहा जाता है, वे मूल रूप से फुजियान के एक हांगकांग अभिनेता थे। वह हांगकांग फिल्म उद्योग में दर्जनों पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित एक कुशल व्यक्ति थे, जिसमें ए मोमेंट ऑफ रोमांस में उनकी भूमिका के लिए 10वें हांगकांग फिल्म पुरस्कारों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायक अभिनेता का पुरस्कार मिला। एनजी को स्टीफन चाउ के साथ उनकी हास्य भूमिकाओं के लिए जाना जाता है और वह अपने पूरे करियर में कई यादगार प्रदर्शनों के साथ एक बहुमुखी अभिनेता थे।

2022 वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता एवं पूर्व वित्त मंत्री पी चिदंबरम ने बेरोजगारी और गरीबी के आंकड़ों के साथ शिक्षा-स्वास्थ्य सहित अन्य क्षेत्रों में उत्तर प्रदेश की बदहाली की स्थिति की जानकारी दी। चिदंबरम ने कहा कि इस प्रदेश पर 6 लाख 62 हजार 91 करोड़ का कर्ज है, जिसमें से 40 प्रतिशत योगी सरकार की देन है। लखनऊ में प्रदेश कांग्रेस मुख्यालय में पत्रकारों से बातचीत में चिदंबरम ने प्रदेश के विकास में पिछड़ने और कर्ज में डूबने, बेरोजगारी और अन्य जनसमस्याओं के बारे में बताया। चिदंबरम ने बताया कि यूपी में जो सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) 2017 में 11.4 प्रतिशत था, वह अब घटकर -6.4 प्रतिशत हो गया है और प्रति व्यक्ति आय भी राष्ट्रीय आय की आधी रह गई है। कांग्रेस नेता ने कहा कि योगी सरकार में प्रति व्यक्ति आय 1.9 प्रतिशत घट गई है और यूपी पर 6 लाख 62 हजार 91 करोड़ का कर्ज है, जिसमें से 40 प्रतिशत मौजूदा सरकार की देन है। इसी दिन राजपुरा (पंजाब) में सिग्मा फैक्टरी के मजदूरों और कर्मचारियों ने जोरदार प्रदर्शन किया और प्रबंधन द्वारा गैर कानूनी तरीके से मजदूरों को हटाने व गेट बंद कर अंदर जाने से रोकने पर गुस्साये मजदूरों ने गेट के बाहर ही धरना दे दिया और सिग्मा फैक्टरी प्रबंधन के खिलाफ जमकर नारेबाजी की। मजदूरों ने मांगे न माने जाने तक धरना जारी रखने की घोषणा की। धरने को सम्बोधित करते हुये जसविंदर सिंह, हरजिंदर कौर और अन्य श्रमिकों ने कहा कि कारखाना प्रबंधन द्वारा पिछले लंबे समय से फैक्टरी में काम करने वाले लगभग 75 श्रमिकों को गैर कानूनी तौर पर निकाल दिया गया है। उन्होंने बताया कि मजदूरों ने मोहाली लेबर कमिश्नर के पास यूनियन को रजिस्टर करने के लिये आवेदन किया था पर यूनियन को रजिस्टर करने का 45 दिन का तय समय बीत जाने के लगभग दो महीने बाद भी पंजीकरण नहीं किया। जिसके खिलाफ वे आवाज उठा रहे थे।

2023 भारतीय जनता पार्टी की तमिलनाडु इकाई के अध्यक्ष के. अन्नामलाई ने कहा कि जानी मानी अभिनेत्री भाजपा की राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारी सदस्य खुशबू सुंदर को राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग (एनसीडब्ल्यू) के सदस्य के रूप में नामित किया गया है। एनसीडब्ल्यू निदेशक की ओर से जारी आदेश में कहा गया है कि नामांकन कार्यभार ग्रहण करने की तिथि से तीन वर्ष की अवधि के लिए या 65 वर्ष की आयु तक के लिए है।

Constantine played an important role in raising the status of Christianity in Rome, decriminalizing Christian practice, and stopping Christian persecution in a period referred to as the Constantinian Shift. Constantine is also the originator of the religio-political ideology called Constantinism, which advocates the unity of church and state, as opposed to the separation of church and state.

380 Christianity was accepted as the official religion of the Roman Empire.

907 Abaoji, a Khitan warlord, founded the Liao dynasty in northern China and enthroned himself as Emperor Taizu.

1931 Revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad i.e. Sitaram Tiwari shot himself to avoid arrest in an encounter with the British police in Alfred Park, Allahabad.

1932 British physicist Sir James Chadwick discovered the neutron. In a molecule, protons and neutrons together form the nucleus of the molecule. The electrons revolve around this nucleus. After this discovery, it became possible to isolate the nucleus of the molecule, which paved the way for making the atomic bomb. For this discovery he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1935.

1997 Indian Hindi film lyricist Shyamlal Babu Rai, famously known as Indeevar, passed away. He was born in Jhansi on 1 January 1924. He composed many popular Hindi film songs.

2001 59 Hindu Karsevaks died when the train compartment of Karsevaks returning from Ayodhya caught fire in Godhra, Gujarat, after which the violence against Muslims supported by the government continued for several days. 2022 Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram informed about the poor condition of Uttar Pradesh in the fields of education, health and other sectors along with unemployment and poverty figures.
