532 बीजान्टिन सम्राट जस्टिनियन प्रथम ने कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल में एक नए रूढ़िवादी ईसाई बेसिलिका - हागिया सोफिया का शिलान्यास किया। इस्तांबूल, तुर्की में अब यह हागिया सोफिया मस्जिद है।

628 ईरान के अंतिम सासैनियन शाह खोस्रो द्वितीय को उखाड़ फेंका गया।

705 चीन में महारानी वू जेटियन ने तांग राजवंश को बहाल किया और सिंहासन छोड़ दिया।

1455 गुटेनबर्ग बाइबिल के प्रकाशित हुई। मुद्रण मशीन में छपी यह पहली किताब बनी। जर्मनी में जोहांस गुटेनबर्ग ने प्रिंटिंग मशीन का आविष्कार किया था और पहली किताब बाइबल छापी जिसे गुटेनबर्ग बाइबल नाम दिया गया।

1583 विख्यात फ्रांसीसी गणितज्ञ, ज्योतिषी और खगोलशास्त्री जीन-बैप्टिस्ट मोरिन का जन्म हुआ।

1685 प्रसिद्ध जर्मन-अंग्रेजी ऑर्गेनिस्ट और संगीतकार जॉर्ज फ्राइडेरिक हैंडेल का जन्म हुआ।

1768 ब्रिटिश सरकार के प्रतिनिधि कर्नल स्मिथ के साथ शांति समझौता होने पर निजाम हैदराबाद ने ब्रिटिश सत्ता की आधीनता स्वीकार की।

1847 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की सेना ने कोथिला, कोलाहिला के पास बुएनाविस्टा की लड़ाई में बहुत बड़ी मैक्सिकन सेना को पीछे हटाने के लिए भारी हथियारों का इस्तेमाल किया।

1876 महाराष्ट्र के लोकप्रिय संत और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता खासतौर पर गरीबों, पिछड़ों, सफाई कर्मियों के पक्ष में आवाज उठाने वाले संत गाडगे महाराज यानी देवूजी झिंगराजी जानोरकर का जन्म हुआ।

1881 शहीदे आजम भगत सिंह के चाचा सुप्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी सरदार अजीत सिंह का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने ब्रिटिश सरकार के किसान विरोधी कानूनों का विरोध किया और आजादी की लड़ाई में प्रतिभाग किया।

1886 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी आविष्कारक, व्यवसायी और रसायनज्ञ चार्ल्स मार्टिन हॉल ने कई वर्षों के गहन काम के बाद एल्यूमीनियम ऑक्साइड के इलेक्ट्रोलिसिस से एल्यूमीनियम के पहले नमूने तैयार किए। इस परियोजना में उनकी बड़ी बहन जूलिया ब्रेनरड हॉल ने उनकी सहायता की। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश अखबार लंदन टाइम्स ने विश्व का पहला वर्गीकृत विज्ञापन प्रकाशित किया।

1903 क्यूबा-अमेरिकी संधि को अंतिम रूप दिया गया, जिससे गुआनतानामो बे को क्यूबा से पट्टे पर लेने के उद्देश्यों के लिए संचालन और नौसैनिक स्टेशनों के संचालन की अनुमति मिली। यहां अमेरिका की कुख्यात जेल है जिसमें कथित तौर पर बेहद खतरनाक अपराधियों को कैद रखा जाता है। कैदियों पर बर्बर जुल्म के लिए यह जेल कई बार बहुत बदनाम हुई है।

1904 दस मिलियन डाॅलर चुकाने पर संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने पनामा नहर क्षेत्र का नियंत्रण हासिल किया। इसी तारीख को प्रख्यात भारतीय सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और होम्योपैथी के प्रसारक महेन्द्रलाल सरकार का निधन हुआ।

1905 रोटरी इंटरनेशनल की स्थापना शिकागो, अमेरिका में हुई। इसके संस्थापक पाॅल पी हैरिस ने कारोबारियों, उद्योगपतियों को सदस्य बनाया। यह संगठन एक दूसरे को मदद, सुझाव, समाजसेवा, शांति आदि के उद्देश्यों के लिए है। वैसे अमीरों का ही संगठन है और अमीरों की चिंता करता है। लेकिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र और उसकी एजेंसी यूनेस्को के साथ आने से 23 फरवरी को विश्व शांति और समझ दिवस मनाया जाने लगा और इसके उद्देश्य व्यापक हो गये हैं। अब यह सामाजिक भलाई के हर क्षेत्र में योगदान करता है।

1927 जर्मन सैद्धांतिक भौतिक विज्ञानी वर्नर हाइजेनबर्ग ने अपने समकक्ष भौतिक विज्ञानी वोल्फगैंग पाउली को एक पत्र लिखा, जिसमें उन्होंने पहली बार अपने अनिश्चितता के सिद्धांत का वर्णन किया।

1940 रूसी सेनाओं ने यूनान के समीप स्थित लासी द्वीप पर कब्जा किया।

1941 प्लूटोनियम को पहली बार रसायनज्ञ ग्लेन टी सीबॉर्ग और कैलिफोर्निया विश्वविद्यालय, बर्कले में उनकी टीम द्वारा पहचाना गया।

1944 सोवियत संघ ने उत्तरी काकेशस से मध्य एशिया में चेचन और इंगुश लोगों का जबरन निर्वासन शुरू किया।

1945 जापान द्वारा नियंत्रित टापू ईवो जीमा पर अमरीका ने अपना झंडा फहराया।

1947 इंटरनेशनल ऑर्गेनाइजेशन फॉर स्टैंडर्डाइजेशन की स्थापना हुई। लंदन में स्थित इस गैर-सरकारी संगठन के दुनिया के 165 देश सदस्य हैं। आईएसओ सर्टिफिकेशन कारोबार की विश्वसनीयता के साथ-साथ व्यापार में सुधार के लिए मदद करता है। आईएसओ कई तरह के सर्टिफिकेट देता है, जैसे- आईएसओ 9000, आईएसओ 9001, आईएसओ 9001ः2015 आदि। यह प्रामाणिकता या वर्गीकरण उत्पाद की गुणवत्ता के अनुरूप होते हैं। समय की जरूरतों के हिसाब से मानक भी बदल रहे हैं और उन्हें अपडेट किया जा रहा है। आईएसओ 9000 से लेकर आईएसओ 9001 तक के अपडेट्स इन्हीं बदलावों पर आधारित हैं। आईएसओ सर्टिफिकेशन इंडस्ट्री के कई क्षेत्रों में होता है, जिनमें एनर्जी मैनेजमेंट और सोशल रिस्पॉन्सबिलिटी से लेकर मेडिकल उपकरण तक शामिल हैं। यह प्रक्रिया पर मुहर लगाता है और निरंतरता की पुष्टि करता है। हर सर्टिफिकेट के लिए अलग स्टैंडर्ड हैं और नियम-शर्तें भी उसी अनुसार तय की जाती हैं। लेकिन वास्तव में देखने में आता है कि आईएसओ सर्टिफाइड उत्पाद की गुणवत्ता की कोई गारंटी नहीं है। अनेक बार घटिया, दोयम दर्जे के उत्पाद भी आईएसओ मार्क लगे पाए जाते हैं।

1952 भारत में कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि और विविध प्रावधान अधिनियम पारित किया गया।

1954 निरंकारी मिशन के आध्यात्मिक गुरु बाबा हरदेव सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1958 पांच बार के अर्जेंटीना फॉर्मूला वन चैंपियन जुआन मैनुअल फांगियो का क्यूबा ग्रैंड प्रिक्स की पूर्व संध्या पर विद्रोहियों ने अपहरण कर लिया और दौड़ के अगले दिन रिहा कर दिया।

1965 2008 के मुंबई आतंकी हमलों के दौरान मारे गये पुलिस अफसर अशोक काम्टे का जन्म हुआ।

1967 अमेरिका के कोलंबिया जिले के सर्किट जज श्री निवासन का जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआं इसी दिन भारत की जानी मानी लेखिका, पत्रकार और फिल्म समीक्षक अनुपमा चोपड़ा का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी सेनाओं ने वियतनाम युद्ध में बड़ा हमला शुरू किया।

1968 बुनियाद, चंद्रकांता आदि लोकप्रिय धारावाहिकों में अभिनय करने वाली जानी मानी टेलीविजन, फिल्म अभिनेत्री, थिएटर कलाकार कृतिका देसाई खान का जन्म हुआ।

1969 बेहद लोकप्रिय खूबसूरत अभिनेत्री मधुबाला का निधन बंबई में हुआ था। 14 फरवरी 1933 को जन्मी अताउल्ला खां और उनकी बेगम आइशा की इस बेटी की फिल्मों में आने के बाद खूबसूरती के चर्चे दुनिया भर में हुए। उस दौर की अमेरिका की सेक्सिएट, लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री मर्लिन मुनरो से इनकी तुलना की गई। मधुबाला का नाम यद्यपि बेगम मुमताज जहां देहलवी था।

1969 जानी मानी अभिनेत्री, माॅडल और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता भाग्श्री पटवर्धन का जन्म सांगली, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ। इसी दिन 1969 में जाने माने फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता अय्यूब खान का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन विख्यात हिंदी उपन्यासकार, नाटककार एवं निबंधकार, पद्भूषण सम्मान तथा सोवियत लैंड नेहरू पुरस्कार प्राप्त वृंदावनलाल वर्मा का निधन हुआ।

1970 गयाना देश गणराज्य बना और 23 फरवरी को गयाना का राष्ट्रीय दिवस घोषित किया गया।

1974 भारत के विख्यात के फैशन डिजाइनर, आभूषण डिजाइनर और कारोबारी सब्यसाची मुखर्जी का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआं

1975 जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल सोनाली बेंद्रे के पति, फिल्म निर्माता निर्देशक और कारोबारी गोल्डी बहल का जन्म हुआ। उड़ीसा राज्य के 6वें मुख्यमंत्री रहे राजेंद्र नारायण सिंह देव का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने गुजराती गायक कीर्तिदन गढवी का जन्म हुआ।

1979 जाने माने वीडियो जाॅकी, टेलीविजन और फिल्म अभिनेता तथा माॅडल पूरब कोहली का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1981 स्पेन में राजनीतिक अनिश्चितता की स्थिति पैदा हो गई थी, जब दक्षिणपंथी सेना ने प्रशासन का तख्तापलट कर दिया।

1982 नीरज ग्रोवर का जन्म हुआ। बंबई के एक प्रोडक्शन हाउस सिनर्जी एडलैब्स में कार्यरत नीरज 7 मई 2008 को मृत पाये गये। इनकी हत्या के आरोप में अभिनेत्री मारिया सुसईराज और उसका प्रेमी लेफ्टिनेंट एमिल जेरोम मैथ्यू को पकड़ा गया। इसी दिन जाने माने फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता, निर्माता तथा माॅडल करन सिंह ग्रोवर का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1983 भारतीय-अमेरिकन हास्य अभिनेता अजीज अंसारी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी पर्यावरण संरक्षण एजेंसी ने टाइम्स बीच, मिसौरी के डाइऑक्सिन-दूषित क्षेत्र को खरीदने और खाली करने की घोषणा की।

1984 जाने माने टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेता तथा माॅडल तरुण खन्ना का जन्म हुआ।

1986 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल संजना सिंह का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1987 बाॅलीवुड की जानी मानी, बहुप्रतिभावान भारतीय-अमेरिकी फिल्म निर्मात्री, निर्देशिका, लेखिका मंजरी मैकीजानी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1990 बीसवीं सदी के विख्यात हिंदी उपन्यासकार, पत्रकार, रेडियो प्रसारक, फिल्म पटकथाकार अमृतलाल नागर का निधन हुआ।

1998 जैविक एवं रासायनिक हथियारों की जांच को लेकर पैदा हुए गतिरोध को समाप्त करने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव कोफी अन्नान व इराकी उपप्रधानमंत्री तारिक अजीज के बीच ऐतिहासिक समझौता हुआ। इसी दिन विश्व में पहली बार बछड़े की प्रतिकृति क्लोन अमेरिका में तैयार किया गया।

1999 भारत की जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड माॅडल एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री वरीना हुसैन का जन्म अफगानिस्तान की राजधानी काबुल में हुआ।

2001 अमेरिकी सीनेट ने सीटीबीटी यानी कांप्रहैंसिव टैस्ट बैन ट्रीटी अंतरराष्ट्री परमाणु निषेध संधि खारिज की, प्रक्षेपास्त्र रक्षा प्रणाली जारी रखने की घोषणा की।

2003 कनाडा के डेविसन ने विश्वकप का सबसे तेज शतक लगाकर 1983 में बनाये गये कपिलदेव के रिकॉर्ड को तोड़ा। इसी दिन 45वें ग्रैमी पुरस्कार समारोह में नोरा जोन्स और जॉन मेयर ने मुख्य पुरस्कार जीते।

2004 हिदी फिल्मों के प्रतिभाशाली अभिनेता, निर्माता, निर्देशक और संपादक विजय आनंद का निधन हुआ। उनकी फिल्म गाइड को बेहतरीन फिल्मों में शुमार किया जाता है। यह विख्यात अभिनेता देव आनंद और चेतन आनंद के भाई थे।

2005 अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई तीन दिवसीय यात्रा पर भारत पहुँचे। इसी दिन उपनिवेशवाद पर विवादास्पद फ्रांसीसी कानून लाइकोटेचर्स को अपने छात्रों को फ्रेंचकोलियनिज्म की सकारात्मक भूमिका सिखाने के उद्देश्य से पारित किया गया, जिससे सार्वजनिक उत्पीड़न और विरोधाभास पैदा हो गया और इसे एक साल से भी कम समय में निरस्त करना पड़ा।

2006 भारत ने पाकिस्तान को सर्वाधिक तरजीह प्राप्त राष्ट्र का दर्जा देने की सिफारिश मंजूर कर ली। 2006 में इसी दिन इराक में हुई जातीय हिंसा में लगभग 160 लोगों की जान गई।

2007 लंदन के यूस्टन से ग्लासगो सेंट्रल जाने वाली वर्जिन ट्रेन पेंडोलिनो एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन ग्राइरिग, कुम्ब्रिया, यूके के पास पटरी से उतर गई, जिसमें एक व्यक्ति की मौत हो गई और 22 घायल हो गए। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान ने शाहीन-2 मिसाइल का परीक्षण किया।

2008 10 साल बाद चुनार सीमेंट फैक्ट्री में उत्पादन शुरू हुआ। इसी दिन रक्षामंत्री ए.के. एंटनी ने जेट ट्रेनर हॉक विमान को देश के बेड़े में शामिल करने की औपचारिक घोषणा की। श्रीलंका के कोलंबो में हुए एक विस्फोट में 18 लोग घायल हुए।

2009 फिल्मों और टेलीविजन कार्यक्रमों में धूम्रपान के दृश्य दिखाने पर लगा प्रतिबंध समाप्त कर दिया गया।

2010 भारत के बेहद मशहूर चित्रकार मकबूल फिदा हुसैन को कतर ने नागरिकता प्रदान की। 2962वें वन डे में बनाए गए पहला दोहरा शतक बनाने वाले सचिन की बदौलत भारत ने दक्षिण अफ्रिका से ग्वालियर के कैप्टन रूपसिंह स्टेडियम में खेला गया एकदिवसीय मैच 153 रनों से जीत लिया। 402 रनों के लक्ष्य के जबाब में दक्षिण अफ्रीका की पूरी टीम 43वें ओवर में 248 रन बनाकर आउट हो गई। इसके साथ ही भारत ने तीन मैचों की श्रृंखला में 2-0 की अजेय बढ़त हासिल कर ली।

2012 अमेरिका के मैरीलैंड राज्य की सीनेट ने राज्य में समान-लिंग विवाह की अनुमति देने वाले विधेयक को मंजूरी दी।

2013 कनाडा की सुरक्षा खुफिया सेवा ने बताया कि देश में अल-कायदा संबद्ध समूहों की उपस्थिति संभावित हमलों का कारण बन सकती है।

2014 रूसी शहर सोच्चि शहर में 22वें शीतकालीन ओलंपिक खेल सम्पन्न हुए। इसी दिन चेक-इंग्लिश होलोकॉस्ट उत्तरजीवी (नाजी जर्मनी के यातना गृह से जीवित बचे) पियानोवादक और शिक्षक ऐलिस हर्ज-सोमर का निधन हुआ।

2015 पाकिस्तानी वकील और न्यायाधीश, पाकिस्तान के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे राणा भगवानदास का निधन हुआ।

2016 अमेरिका के प्राथमिक चुनाव में नेवादा में रिपब्लिकन उम्मीदवार डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने 45.9.5 प्रतिशत मतों के साथ जीता।

2017 तुर्की समर्थित फ्री सीरियन आर्मी ने अल-बाब को आईएसआईएल से पकड़ लिया।

2019 एटलस एयर फ्लाइट 3591 बोइंग 767 मालवाहक टेक्सास के अनाहुआक के पास ट्रिनिटी बे में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, जिससे उसमें सवार सभी तीन लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2020 25 वर्षीय अफ्रीकी-अमेरिकी नागरिक अहमद अर्बरी की जॉर्जिया के ग्लिन काउंटी में ब्रंसविक के पास सैटिला शोर्स के पड़ोस में जॉगिंग के दौरान एक निर्माणाधीन घर में जाने के बाद तीन श्वेत लोगों ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी।

2021 इक्वाडोर में एक साथ चार जेल दंगों में करीब 62 लोग मारे गए।

2020 अंतरराष्ट्रीय न्यायालय (आईसीजे) ने एक महत्वपूर्ण आदेश में म्यांमार से रोहिंग्या आबादी को सुरक्षा देने को कहा। 2020 में इसी दिन ब्रिटेन की महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय ने ब्रिटिश सरकार के ब्रेक्जिट कानून को मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन 2020 में आई एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, भ्रष्टाचार धारणा सूचकांक में भारत 80वें स्थान पर लुढ़का। डेनमार्क और न्यूजीलैंड संयुक्त रूप से शीर्ष पर बने रहे।

2023 पंजाब पुलिस को थाने में तोड़-फोड़, पुलिस कर्मियों को पीटने के बाद हमलावरों के सामने हार माननी पड़ी और उनकी मांग मान ली गई। अमृतपाल सिंह प्रमुख सिख संगठन वारिस पंजाब दे की ओर से अजनाला पुलिस को दी गई धमकी के बाद को उसके सैकड़ों समर्थकों ने तलवारों और बंदूकों से अजनाला थाने पर हमला कर दिया। समर्थकों ने पुलिस बैरिकेड्स को तोड़ दिया और पुलिस कर्मचारियों के साथ मारपीट की। पुलिस की गाड़ियां भी तोड़ डालीं। इस ताबड़-तोड़ हुए हमले में छह पुलिसकर्मी घायल हो गए। सिख संगठन वारिस पंजाब दे के अनुयायियों ने पुलिस नाकों पर हमला किया, इस पर तैनात पुलिस कर्मचारी पीछे हट गए। अमृतपाल और उसके समर्थक मार्च करते हुए थाने के बाहर पहुंच गए और धरना शुरू कर दिया। ये लोग एफआईआर रद्द करने पर अड़े रहे और पकड़े गए उनके एक व्यक्ति को रिहा करने की मांग की। इसी दिन खबर छपी कि चरखी दादरी, हरियाणा के वृद्ध पति-पत्नी ने 71 साल की उम्र 43वें मास्टर एथलीट फेडरेशन ऑफ इंडिया की कोलकाता में आयोजित खेलों में हरियाणा की ओर से खेलते हुए गोल्ड सहित पांच मेडल जीतकर अपने जीवन को सार्थक, युवाओं को हैरान और हरियाणा का नाम रौशन किया। 43 वें मास्टर एथलीट फेडरेशन ऑफ इंडिया की ओर से 14 फरवरी से 18 फरवरी तक कोलकाता में आयोजित खेलों में झोझू कलां की बेटी व हाल में दादरी के वार्ड 16 निवासी संतरा देवी ने शानदार प्रदर्शन करते हुए तीन स्वर्ण पदक जीते। उन्होंने सौ मीटर बाधा दौड़ में स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त किया। इसके साथ ही 300 मीटर बाधा दौड़ में भी अव्वल रहते हुए गोल्ड जीता। उनके पति सुरेंद्र डबास ने कोलकता में दो मेडल जीते हैं। इसी दिन व्हाट्सऐप, इंस्टाग्राम, फेसबुक की मालिक कंपनी मेटा ने जानकारी दी कि वह अगले कुछ दिनों में 11,000 लोग या मेटा के करीब 13 प्रतिशत कर्मचारियों को छंटनी में नौकरी से हटा देगी।
