1316 दिल्ली में अलाउद्दीन खिलजी का निधन हुआ। यह खिलजी वंश के सुल्तान हुए।

1322 अपने सौतेले भाई स्टीफन कांस्टेनटाइन को युद्ध में पराजित करने के बाद स्टीफन डेंकस्की सर्बिया का राजा बना।

1449 कॉन्सटेंटाइन ग्यारहवें पैलियोलोस को बीजान्टिन-रोमन सम्राट का ताज पहनाया गया।

1536 अमेरिका में उच्च शिक्षा का पहला यूरोपीय स्कूल, कोलेजियो डी सांता क्रूज डी ट्लाटेलोल्को, मैक्सिको सिटी में वाइसराय एंटोनियो डी मेंडोजा और बिशप जुआन डी जुमरागा ने स्थापित करवाया।

1883 विश्व विख्यात लेबनानी कथाकार, आलोचक, चिंतक, कवि खलील जिब्रान का जन्म हुआ।

1885 भारतेंदु हरिश्चंद्र का निधन हुआ। वे आधुनिक हिंदी साहित्य के प्रवर्तक थे, जिन्होंने हरिश्चंद्र मैगजीन, कविवचन सुधा आदि पत्रिकाएं निकालीं तथा अंधेरनगरी, भारत दुर्दशा आदि अनेक नाटक लिखे।

1896 पहली अमेरिकी महिलाओं की छह दिवसीय साइकिल दौड़ मैडिसन स्क्वायर गार्डन में शुरू की गयी।

1932 हिंदी के प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार, पत्रकार, टेलीविजन शो निर्माता संपादक कमलेश्वर यानी कमलेश्वर प्रसाद सक्सेना का मैनपुरी उत्तर प्रदेश में जन्म हुआ।

1907 इतालवी शिक्षाविद मारिया मोंटेसरी ने शिक्षा के दर्शन को नियोजित करते हुए रोम में काम करने वाले बच्चों के लिए पहला स्कूल और डेकेयर सेंटर खोला।

1910 भारतीय कर्नाटक संगीतकार जी. एन. बालासुब्रमनियम का जन्म हुआ।

1929 मदर टेरेसा भारत में रोगियों और गरीब लोगों की सेवा करने के लिए कोलकाता पहुंचीं।

1965 हिमाचल प्रदेश के प्रमुख भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता, मुख्यमंत्री रहे और वर्तमान में नेता प्रतिपक्ष जयराम ठाकुर का जन्म हुआ।

1967 मशहूर संगीतकार एआर रहमान यानी अल्लाह रक्खा रहमान का जन्म हुआ।

1971 चर्चित बंगाली सिने अभिनेत्री इंद्रानी हालदार का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ। इसी दिन भारत में पहले निर्दलीय मुख्यमंत्री हुए मधु कोड़ा का जन्म झारखंड के गुआ में हुआ। वे फिलहाल कांग्रेस पार्टी में हैं। इसी दिन जानी मानी भारतीय फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन शो निर्मात्री, लेखिका, निर्देशिका लीना यादव का मध्य प्रदेश के महू में जन्म हुआ।

1973 प्रमुख बंगाली फिल्म अभिनेता रुद्रानिल घोष का हावड़ा में जन्म हुआ।

1976 चीन ने लोप नोर क्षेत्र में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1977 रॉक बैंड सेक्स पिस्टल्स के सार्वजनिक तौर पर खराब बर्ताव के कारण उनके साथ अपना करार रद्द कर दिया।

1980 सातवीं लोक सभा चुनाव में इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी गांधी की नेतृत्व वाली कांग्रेस पार्टी को दो तिहाई बहुमत मिला।

1987 कैलिफोर्निया विश्वविद्यालय के खगोलशास्त्रियों ने 12 अरब प्रकाश वर्ष दूर आकाशगंगा के निर्माण की पहली झलक देखी। 1987 में इसी दिन भारतीय संगीतकार तथा अभिनेता जयदेव का निधन हुआ।

1989 जानी मानी, लोकप्रिय खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय, तमिल, तेलुगू फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हिबाह पटेल का बंबई में जन्म हुआ।

1989 प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी गांधी की हत्या के दोनों दोषियों सतवंत सिंह और केहर सिंह को फांसी दी गई। यह खालिस्तानी उग्रवादियों से प्रभावित थे जिन्होंने 1980 और 90 के दशक में उत्तर भारत में कहर बरपा रखा था। प्रधानमंत्री गांधी ने खालिस्तानी आतंकी प्रमुख जरनैल सिंह भिंडरावाले को पकड़ने के लिए स्वर्ण मंदिर में फौज उतार दी थी। दोनों ओर से चली गोलियों में भिंडरावाले और उसके कई समर्थक मारे गये। इसका खामियाजा गांधी को 1984 की 31 अक्टूबर की सुबह अपने अंगरक्षकों बेअंत सिंह और सतवंत सिंह के हाथों हत्या के रूप में भुगतना पड़ा।

1990 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर अभिनव मुकुंद का मद्रास में जन्म हुआ।

2002 भारत ने सीमा में घुसे पाकिस्तानी जासूसी विमान को मार गिराया। नेपाल में इसी दिन दक्षेस शिखर सम्मेलन सम्पन्न हुआ, काठमांडू घोषणा-पत्र में आतंकवाद की समाप्ति पर जोर दिया। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन के प्रधानमंत्री टोनी ब्लेयर व भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी की बातचीत के बाद दिल्ली घोषणा-पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर हुए और इसी दिन बांग्लादेश की मुद्रा से शेख मुजीब का चित्र हटाया गया।

2003 रूस ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से बिना अनुमति लिये इराक के विरुद्ध सैनिक कार्रवाई पर अमेरिका को चेतावनी दी।

1994 लोकप्रिय, बोल्ड फिलिपीना मॉडल, गायिका, ब्यूटी क्वीन और टेलीविजन हस्ती, महिला अधिकार कार्यकत्री और महिला अधिकारों के लिए फौज के दबाव को नकारने वाली कैटरिओना एलिसा मैग्नायोन ग्रे का जन्म केर्न्स, क्वींसलैंड, ऑस्ट्रेलिया में हुआ।

2007 उत्तर प्रदेश हिंदी संस्थान की ओर से साहित्य के क्षेत्र में दिये जाने वाले वार्षिक पुरस्कारों के अंतर्गत वर्ष 2007 के भारत भारती सम्मान केदारनाथ सिंह को प्रदान करने की घोषणा हुई।

2008 राज्यसभा सदस्य और बंगलुरू के उद्यमी तथा पूंजी और निवेश कंपनी जूपिटर कैपिटल के अध्यक्ष एवं मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी राजीव चंद्रशेखर को फिक्की का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया। अमेरिका के पश्चिमी तटीय क्षेत्र में आए तूफान से भारी तबाही। 2008 में प्रसिद्ध भारतीय चिकित्सक प्रमोद करण सेठी का निधन हुआ।

2009 जम्मू-कश्मीर के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री गुलाम मोहम्मद शाह का निधन हुआ।

2010 यूरोप भर में अत्यधिक ठंड के कारण पोलैंड में 122 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 7 लोग हिमस्खलन के परिणामस्वरूप स्विट्जरलैंड में मारे गए। 2010 में इसी दिन नई दिल्ली में यमुना बैंक-आनंद विहार सेक्शन की मेट्रो रेलों का परिचालन आरंभ हुआ।

2012 सीरिया की राजधानी दमिश्क में हुए आत्मघाती हमले में 26 लोगों की मौत हुई और 63 घायल हुए।

2013 फिलिस्तीनी राष्ट्रीय प्राधिकरण के अध्यक्ष महमूद अब्बास ने घोषणा की कि आधिकारिक दस्तावेज को फिलिस्तीन के राज्य शब्दों का उपयोग करना चाहिए।

2014 जेनेट येलेन अमेरिकी फेडरल रिजर्व की अध्यक्ष बनीं। वह चेयरमैन का पद संभालने वाली पहली महिला हैं।

2016 उत्तर कोरिया ने सफलतापूर्वक एक थर्मोन्यूक्लियर हथियार का परीक्षण किया। इसी दिन लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड इतालवी मॉडल, अभिनेत्री और निर्देशक, मिस इटली 1946 सिलवाना पंपानिनी का निधन हुआ।

2017 हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध चरित्र अभिनेता ओम पुरी का निधन हुआ। 2017 में इसी दिन फ्लोरिडा के ब्रोवार्ड काउंटी में फोर्ट लॉडरडेल-हॉलीवुड अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर सामूहिक गोलीबारी में पांच लोग मारे गए और छह अन्य घायल हो गए।

2019 उत्तरी अफगानिस्तान के बदख्शां प्रांत में एक सोने की खदान ढहने से चालीस लोग मारे गए। इसी दिन मलेशिया के केलंतन के मुहम्मद वी ने मलेशिया के यांग डि-पर्टुआन एगोंग के पद से इस्तीफा दिया, ऐसा करने वाले वह पहले राजा बने।

2020 पुरुषों के साथ बलात्कार करने वाले इंडोनेशियाई नागरिक रिनहार्ड सिनागा को ब्रिटेन की अदालत ने उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई।

2021 प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के काफिले की सुरक्षा में सेंध लगाने के आरोप पर संयुक्त किसान मोर्चा ने गुरुवार 6 जनवरी को स्पष्ट किया कि प्रधानमंत्री के दौरे को रोकने या उनके कार्यक्रम में बाधा डालने की उनकी कोई योजना नहीं थी। एसकेएम के मुताबिक, वहां के किसानों को इस बात की पुख्ता जानकारी तक नहीं थी कि पीएम का काफिला गुजरने वाला है। बुधवार को, फिरोजपुर में प्रधानमंत्री की रैली को सुरक्षा चूक का बहाना कर रद्द किया गया। बताया गया कि कुछ प्रदर्शनकारियों ने एक मार्ग को अवरुद्ध कर दिया और पीएम मोदी के काफिले को एक फ्लाईओवर पर लगभग 20 मिनट बिताने के लिए मजबूर किया। प्रधानमंत्री हुसैनीवाला में राष्ट्रीय शहीद स्मारक जा रहे थे। संयुक्त किसान मोर्चा ने गुरुवार को एक बयान में दावा किया कि उन्होंने 5 जनवरी को प्रधानमंत्री की प्रस्तावित पंजाब यात्रा की खबर मिलने पर विरोध प्रदर्शन की योजना बनाई थी। संगठन ने कहा, एसकेएम से जुड़े कुल 10 किसान संगठनों ने केंद्रीय गृह राज्य मंत्री अजय मिश्रा टेनी की गिरफ्तारी और अन्य बकाया मांगों की मांग को लेकर प्रतीकात्मक विरोध की घोषणा की थी। एसकेएम के बयान के अनुसार, इस उद्देश्य के लिए, 2 जनवरी को पंजाब भर में ग्रामीण स्तर पर और 5 जनवरी को जिला और तहसील मुख्यालय पर विरोध प्रदर्शन और पुतला जलाने के कार्यक्रमों की घोषणा की गई थी। प्रधानमंत्री की यात्रा को रोकने या उनके कार्यक्रम में बाधा डालने के लिए कोई कार्यक्रम नहीं था।

2021 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप के समर्थकों ने 2020 के राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के प्रमाणीकरण को बाधित करने के लिए यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स कैपिटल पर हमला किया जिससे अराजकता फैल गई, पुलिस को काफी मशक्कत करनी पड़ी। इस घटना में पांच मारे गये। बमुश्किल अमेरिकी कांग्रेस को ट्रप समर्थकों से मुक्त कराया गया। यह भीड़ ट्रप के उकसावे पर आई थी, जिसके लिए उन पर मुकदमा चल रहा है।

2022 उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री और समाजवादी पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि विकास की दौड़ में अन्य सभी राज्यों से उत्तर प्रदेश पिछड़ गया है। बाहर से पूंजीनिवेश नहीं आने से रोजगार का सृजन नहीं हो रहा है। भाजपा सरकार फिर भी ऐसे सब्जबाग दिखा रही है कि जनता की आंखे चौंधिया रही हैं। अखिलेश यादव ने शुक्रवार 6 जनवरी को जारी अपने बयान में कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री ने मुंबई प्रवास के एक दिन में ही पांच लाख करोड़ का निवेश आने का एलान कर दिया है। अच्छा होता मुंबई में रोड-शो करने से पहले भाजपा सरकार उत्तर प्रदेश में बंद हो रहे उद्योगों एवं कारोबार की दुर्दशा जाने। बड़े पूंजीपतियों को बढ़ावा देना तथा मध्यम एवं लघु उद्योग और छोटे व्यापारियों को खत्म करना भाजपा की घातक नीति है जिसके कारण लोगों का काम चौपट हुआ है और बेरोजगारी बेतहाशा बढ़ी है। इसी दिन प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने शुक्रवार को जानकारी दी कि कथित तौर पर फर्जी डिग्रियां बेचने से जुड़े एक मामले में सोलन, हिमाचल प्रदेश की मानव भारती यूनिवर्सिटी और उसके प्रोमोटर्स के खिलाफ मनी लांड्रिंग रोधी कानून के प्रावधानों के तहत आरोपपत्र दाखिल किया गया है। केंद्रीय जांच एजेंसी ने एक बयान में कहा कि शिमला की एक विशेष अदालत ने 4 जनवरी को अभियोजन की शिकायत (आरोपपत्र) पर संज्ञान लिया। इसमें कहा गया है कि आरोपपत्र में कुल 16 लोगों/संस्थाओं को नामजद किया गया है जिनमें सोलन स्थित मानव भारती यूनिवर्सिटी, प्रोमोटर राज कुमार राणा और अन्य शामिल हैं। प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने बताया कि आरोपी राज कुमार राणा ने अन्य सह-आरोपियों की मदद से मानव भारती यूनिवर्सिटी, सोलन के नाम पर पैसों के बदले में फर्जी डिग्रियां बेचीं। ईडी ने कहा कि इस गैरकानूनी काम से मिले पैसों का इस्तेमाल राणा ने विभिन्न राज्यों में अपने तथा परिवार के सदस्यों और संस्थाओं के नाम पर विभिन्न चल और अचल संपत्तियां खरीदने में किया। ईडी ने कहा कि धन शोधन का यह मामला मानव भारती यूनिवर्सिटी, सोलन के फर्जी डिग्री घोटाले के मामले में आरोपियों के खिलाफ दर्ज हिमाचल प्रदेश पुलिस की तीन प्राथमिकियां से जुड़ा है। एजेंसी इससे पहले इस मामले में 194 करोड़ रुपये की संपत्तियां जब्त कर चुकी है।
