1111 तौस, ईरान में अल-गजाली (अबू हामिद मुअम्मद इब्न मुअम्मद) का निधन हुआ। अल-गजाली इस्लामी इतिहास में सबसे प्रमुख और प्रभावशाली न्यायशास्त्री, कानूनी सिद्धांतकार, मुफ्ती, दार्शनिक, धर्मशास्त्री, तर्कशास्त्री और रहस्यवादी थे।

1154 किंग हेनरी द्वितीय की 21 साल की उम्र में इंग्लैंड के सम्राट के पद पर लंदन के वेस्टमिंस्टर एब्बे में ताजपोषी की गई। 1154 से 1189 में अपनी मृत्यु तक इंग्लैंड के राजा रहे। अपने शासनकाल के दौरान उन्होंने इंग्लैंड, वेल्स और आयरलैंड के बड़े हिस्से और फ्रांस के अधिकांश हिस्से (नॉरमैंडी, एक्विटाइन और अंजु सहित) को नियंत्रित किया। एक ऐसा क्षेत्र जिसे बाद में एंजविन साम्राज्य कहा गया, और स्कॉटलैंड और ब्रिटनी के डची पर भी उसका अधिकार था। 

1558 एंटवर्प, डची ऑफ ब्रैबेंट, हैब्सबर्ग नीदरलैंड में कॉर्नेलियस ग्रेफियस हुआ जो, एंटवर्प शहर के सचिव और प्रसिद्ध लेखक हुए।

1606 सुसान कॉन्स्टैंट, गॉडस्पीड और डिस्कवरी जहाज इंग्लैंड से उन निवासियों को लेकर रवाना हुए, जिन्होंने जेम्सटाउन, वर्जीनिया में तेरह उपनिवेशों में से पहला उपनिवेश स्थापित किया।

1675 किंग फिलिप के साथ युद्ध में अंग्रेजों को बड़ी हार का सामना करना पड़ा।

1776 थॉमस पेन ने पेंसिल्वेनिया जर्नल में द अमेरिकन क्राइसिस शीर्षक से पैम्फलेट की एक श्रृंखला प्रकाशित की।

1783 विलियम पिट द यंगर 24 साल की उम्र में यूनाइटेड किंगडम के सबसे कम उम्र के प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1793 टूलॉन की घेराबंदी समाप्त हुई जब नेपोलियन के फ्रांसीसी तोपखाने ने अंग्रेजों को शहर छोड़ने के लिए मजबूर किया, जिसने दक्षिणी फ्रांस को अंग्रेजी आक्रमण से बचाया।

1807 फ्रेडरिक मेल्चियोर, बैरन वॉन ग्रिम का निधन हुआ जो जर्मन मूल के फ्रांसीसी पत्रकार, कला समीक्षक, राजनयिक और एनसाइक्लोपीडी ओउ डिक्शननेयर रायसन डेस साइंसेज, डेस आर्ट्स एट डेस को तैयार करने में सहयोगी थे। ग्रिम ने गीत और ओपेरा लिब्रेटोस पर एनसाइक्लोपीडी के लिए एक प्रभावशाली लेख पोएम लिरिके लिखा। 

1823 जॉर्जिया ने पहले अमेरिकी राज्य जन्म पंजीकरण कानून को संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में लागू किया।

1843 चार्ल्स डिकेंस के क्रिसमस कैरोल उपन्यास एबेंजर स्क्रूज और नॉर्बी तीन क्रिसमस भूतों के पात्रों के साथ प्रकाशित किया।

1860 सन 1848 से 1856 तक भारत के गवर्नर रहे जनरल लार्ड डलहौजी का निधन हुआ।

1873 जाने माने भारतीय वैज्ञानिक और चिकित्साशास्त्री उपेन्द्रनाथ ब्रह्मचारी का जन्म हुआ।

1889 ईसाई धर्म के सांस्कृतिक, धार्मिक और पारंपरिक विरासत को समेटे बिशप संग्रहालय को हवाई, होनोलूलू, अमेरिका में स्थापित किया गया।

1894 पद्मभूषण सम्मान से नवाजे गये विख्यात भारतीय उद्योगपति और कारोबारी कस्तूरभाई लालभाई का जन्म गुजरात के अहमदाबाद में हुआ।

1897 मानवाधिकारों के लिए संघर्ष करने वाले विश्व विख्यात अमेरिकी नेता मार्टिन लूथर किंग सीनियर का जन्म हुआ।

1907 अमेरिकी राज्य पेंसिल्वेनिया के जैकब्स क्रीक स्थित कोयले की खदान में हुये विस्फोट में 239 मजदूरों की मौत हुई।

1915 मणिपुर के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री मैरेंबम कोइरंग सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1919 भारतीय सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध हास्य एवं चरित्र अभिनेता ओम प्रकाश छिब्बर का जन्म हुआ। यह ओम प्रकाश के ही नाम से जाने जाते हैं। इसी दिन अमेरिका में मौसम विज्ञान सोसायटी की स्थापना हुयी।

1924 जर्मन सीरियल किलर फ्रिट्ज हार्मैन को हत्या की एक श्रृंखला के लिए मौत की सजा सुनाई गई।

1927 उत्तर प्रदेश ऑटोमोबाइल संघ की स्थापना हुयी।

1927 भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के अमर सपूत राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल, अशफाक उल्ला खां और रोशन सिंह को अंग्रेजों ने फाँसी दे दी। सचींद्रनाथ सान्याल के नेतृत्व में हिंदुस्तान रिपब्लिकन एसोसिएशन की स्थापना हुई। योगेशचन्द्र चटर्जी, रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल, सचिंद्रनाथ बक्शी पार्टी के महत्वपूर्ण सदस्यों में शामिल थे। बाद में पार्टी से चंद्रशेखर आजाद और भगत सिंह भी जुड़ गए। इस संगठन का विचार था कि भारत की आजादी के लिए हथियार उठाने ही पड़ेंगे और हथियार खरीदने को पैसे चाहिए। क्रांतिकारियों ने तय किया कि सरकारी कोष लूटा जाए। कुछ क्रांतिकारियों ने 9 अगस्त 1925 को सहारनपुर से लखनऊ जा रही ट्रेन को काकोरी स्टेशन पर रोक कर बंदूक की नोक पर गार्ड को बंधक बनाकर लूट लिया। क्रांतिकारियों को कुल 4,601 रुपए हासिल हुए। इस दुस्साहसिक घटना से ब्रिटिश सरकार में हड़कंप मच गया। जम कर गिरफ्तारियां की गईं। घटना में केवल 10 ही लोग शामिल थे लेकिन सरकार ने एक महीने में करीब 40 लोग गिरफ्तार किये। 6 अप्रैल 1927 को फैसला सुनाया गया। राम प्रसाद बिस्मिल, अशफाक उल्ला खान, राजेंद्र लाहिड़ी और ठाकुर रोशन सिंह को फांसी की सजा सुनाई गई। कई लोगों को 14 साल तक की सजा दी गई। सरकारी गवाह बनने पर दो लोगों को रिहा कर दिया गया। चंद्रशेखर आजाद पुलिस की गिरफ्त से बचे रहे। फांसी के फैसले का भारतीयों ने खूब विरोध किया लेकिन अंग्रेजों ने न सुनी। तय वक्त से पहले 17 दिसंबर 1927 को गोंडा जेल में राजेंद्र लाहिड़ी को फांसी दी गई। 19 दिसंबर 1927 को रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल को गोरखपुर जेल अशफाक उल्ला खान को फैजाबाद जेल और रोशन सिंह को इलाहाबाद में फांसी दी गई।

1932 ब्रिटिश ब्राॅडकास्टिंग कारपोरेशन यानी बीबीसी ने अपनी विश्व सेवा शुरू की, यह दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी रेडियो, टेलीविजन प्रसारण सेवा है और ब्रिटिश सरकार के पैसे से चलती है।

1934 भारत की पहली महिला राष्ट्रपति हुई प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल का जन्म हुआ।

1935 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर और भारतीय क्रिकेट कंट्रोल बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष, खेल प्रशासक, प्रबंधक रहे राज सिंह डूंगरपुर का डूंगरपुर, राजस्थान में जन्म हुआ।

1940 विख्यात भारतीय फिल्मकार, सिनेमाटोग्राफर, पटकथाकार, निर्माता, टेलीविजन धारावाहिक निर्माता-निर्देशक गोविंद निहलानी का कराची, पाकिस्तान में जन्म हुआ।

1941 जर्मन तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर ने सेना की पूरी कमान अपने हाथ में ले ली।

1953 विख्यात ब्रिटिश इतिहासकार रोनाल्ड एडमंड हट्टन का जन्म भारत के ऊटी में हुआ।

1956 आयरलैंड में जन्मे ब्रिटिश चिकित्सक जॉन बोडकिन एडम्स को उनके 160 से अधिक रोगियों की संदिग्ध मौतों के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया। लेकिन बाद में उन्हें मामूली अपराधों में सजा सुनाई गई।

1961 गोवा को पुर्तगाल की गुलामी से आजादी मिली। ऑपरेशन विजय के तहत भारतीय सैनिकों ने गोवा, दमन और दीव को पुर्तगाल से मुक्त कराया।

1966 एशियाई विकास बैंक की शुरुआत की गयी।

1969 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेटर नयन मोंगिया का जन्म हुआ।

1970 सास्वता चटर्जी के नाम से सुपरिचित कलकत्ता के लोकप्रिय फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता शुभेंदु चटर्जी का जन्म हुआ।

1974 अमीर अमेरिकी कारोबारी नेल्सन रॉकफेलर ने संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के संविधान में 25वें संशोधन के प्रावधानों के तहत राष्ट्रपति गेराल्ड फोर्ड के तहत संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के उपराष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली। इसी दिन विख्यात अमेरिकन फुटबॉल के खिलाड़ी जेक प्लमर का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1974 में आॅस्ट्रेलिया के प्रसिद्ध क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी और कप्तान रिकी पोटिंग का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने अपने करियर में 168 टेस्ट में 13378 और 375 वनडे मैचों में 13704 रन बनाए हैं।

1975 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल रिंपी कौर यानी माही गिल जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआ। इसी दिन दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मों के जाने माने डांस कोरियोग्राफर नागेंद्र प्रसाद सुंदरम का जन्म मैसूर में हुआ।

1976 जाने माने थिएटर कलाकार, नाटककार, मंच निर्देशक, फिल्म अभिनेता निर्देशक मानव कौल का जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के बारामूला में जन्म हुआ।

1978 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता तथा माॅडल हितेन पेंटल का जन्म श्रीनगर, जम्मू में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता मिहिर मिश्रा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1980 विख्यात अमरीकन फिल्म अभिनेता जेक गाइलनहाल का जन्म हुआ।

1982 बाला के नाम से सुपरिचित मलयालम, तमिल, तेलुगू फिल्म अभिनेता तथा फिल्म निर्देशक बाला कुमार का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1983 ब्राजील के शहर रियो दी जेनेरियो से फुटबॉल के फीफा विश्व कप की चोरी हो गई। और यह कप आज तक मिला ही नहीं।

1984 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत एवं बोल्ड फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अंकिता लोखंडे का जन्म हुआ। एक समय वे टेलीविजन शो के लिए सबसे ज्यादा पारिश्रमिक लेने वाली अभिनेत्री रहीं। इसी दिन जानी मानी, बहुप्रतिभावान तेलुगू फिल्म निर्मात्री प्रियंका दत्त का जन्म विजयवाड़ा में हुआ। इसी दिन चीन एवं ब्रिटेन के मध्य 1997 तक हांगकांग चीन के वापस करने संबंघी समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर।

1988 जानी-मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल आम्रपाली गुप्ता यानी आम्रपाली यश सिन्हा का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ। 1988 में इसी दिन ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित प्रसिद्ध गुजराती साहित्यकार उमाशंकर जोशी का निधन हुआ।

1993 जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता एवं माॅडल गौरव वाधवा का जन्म जयपुर राजस्थान में हुआ।

1997 इतिहास में सबसे ज्यादा कमाई करने वाली फिल्मों में से एक टाइटैनिक रिलीज हुई। फिल्म में लियोनार्डो डि कैप्रियो और केट विंसलेट मुख्य भूमिका में थे।

1998 विख्यात अर्थशास्त्री अमर्त्य सेन को बांग्लादेश ने मानद नागरिकता से नवाजा। इसी दिन डेनवर (अमेरिका) में आयोजित विश्व विकलांग स्कीइंग में भारत के शील कुमार सर्वश्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ी घोषित किए गये। इसी दिन 1998 में अमेरिका के हाउस ऑफ रिप्रजेंटेटिव ने उस वक्त के राष्ट्रपति बिल क्लिंटन पर महाभियोग लगाया। बाद में, उच्च सदन सीनेट से उन्हें बरी कर दिया गया।

1999 करीब 443 वर्षों तक पुर्तगाली उपनिवेश रहने के बाद मकाऊ चीन को हस्तांतरित किया गया।

2000 ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने वेस्टइंडीज को हराकर लगातार 13वां क्रिकेट टेस्ट मैच जीता। 2000 में इसी दिन आरोपों के मुताबिक तुर्की की कम्युनिस्ट लेबर पार्टी लेनिनवादी की गुरिल्ला इकाई ने इस्तांबुल, तुर्की में एक राष्ट्रवादी आंदोलन पार्टी कार्यालय पर हमला किया, जिसमें एक व्यक्ति की मौत हो गई और तीन घायल हो गए।

2002 गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री रहे भाजपा नेता बाबू भाई पटेल का निधन हुआ।

2003 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने कश्मीर समस्या को संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रस्तावों के तहत हल करने की पाकिस्तान की मांग छोड़ने का स्वागत किया। इसी दिन लीबिया ने रसायनिक हथियारों को खत्म करने की घोषणा की।

2005 अफगानिस्तान में तीन दशक बाद लोकतांत्रिक पद्धति से चुनी गयी देश की पहली संसद की पहली बैठक आयोजित।

2007 टाइम पत्रिका ने रूस के राष्ट्रपति ब्लादिमीर पुतिन को पर्सन आफ द ईयर के खिताब दिया।

2008 भारत में केनरा बैंक, एचडीएफसी व बैंक ऑफ राजस्थान ने आवास ऋण सस्ता करने की घोषणा की।

2011 उत्तर कोरिया के सर्वोच्च नेता किम जोंग-इल का निधन हुआ और किम जोंग-उन को उनके पिता का उत्तराधिकारी घोषित किया गया।

2012 दक्षिण कोरिया की पहली महिला राष्ट्रपति पार्क ग्युन हे चुनी गईं। 2017 में उन्हें भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप में पद से हटा दिया गया। अगस्त 2018 में उन्हें 25 साल की सजा सुनाई गई।

2016 विख्यात भारतीय लेखक और गाँधीवादी पर्यावरण कार्यकर्ता अनुपम मिश्र का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन तुर्की की राजधानी अंकारा में एक कला प्रदर्शनी के दौरान तुर्की में रूसी राजदूत आंद्रेई कार्लोव की हत्या कर दी गई। हत्यारे, मेव्लुट मर्ट अल्टिंटास को एक तुर्की गार्ड ने गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी। इसी दिन जर्मनी के बर्लिन में क्रिसमस बाजार में एक वाहन हमले में कई लोग मारे गए और घायल हो गए।

2021 पाम बीच गार्डन, फ्लोरिडा, अमेरिका में सैली एन होवेस का निधन हुआ जो खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अंग्रेजी अभिनेत्री और गायिका थीं। सिनेमा स्क्रीन, स्टेज और टेलीविजन पर उन्होंने छह दशकों काम किया। उन्हें 1968 की संगीतमय फिल्म चिट्टी चिट्टी बैंग बैंग में ट्रूली स्क्रम्प्टियस की भूमिका के लिए खास पहचान मिली। 1963 में उन्हें ब्रिगेडून में उनके प्रदर्शन के लिए संगीत में सर्वश्रेष्ठ मुख्य अभिनेत्री के टोनी पुरस्कार के लिए नामांकित किया गया था।

अमेरिका और यूरोप में खासतौर पर लुक फॉर एन एवरग्रीन डे 19 दिसंबर को मनाया जाता है।: क्रिसमस और मानव जीवन में सदाबहार वृक्षों के महत्व, सजावट, खुशी और उत्साह हेतु यह आयोजन होता है।

1111 Al-Ghazali (Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad) died in Taus, Iran. Al-Ghazali was the most prominent and influential jurist, legal theorist, mufti, philosopher, theologian, logician, and mystic in Islamic history.

1154 King Henry II was crowned King of England at the age of 21 at Westminster Abbey in London. King of England from 1154 until his death in 1189. During his reign he controlled large parts of England, Wales and Ireland, and much of France (including Normandy, Aquitaine and Anjou). An area that later became known as the Angevin Empire, and also controlled the Duchies of Scotland and Brittany.

1558 Cornelius Graffius in Antwerp, Duchy of Brabant, Habsburg Netherlands, city secretary of Antwerp and renowned writer.

1606 The ships Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery set sail from England carrying settlers who established the first of the Thirteen Colonies at Jamestown, Virginia.

1675 The British suffered a major defeat in the war with King Philip.

1776 Thomas Paine published a series of pamphlets in the Pennsylvania Journal titled The American Crisis.

1783 William Pitt the Younger becomes the youngest Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at the age of 24.

The 1793 Siege of Toulon ended when Napoleon's French artillery forced the British to abandon the city, saving southern France from English invasion.

1807 Frederick Melchior, Baron von Grimm, German-born French journalist, art critic, diplomat, and collaborator in the preparation of the Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire Raison des Sciences, des Arts et des Sciences, died. Grimm wrote Poem Lyrique, an influential article on song and opera librettos for the Encyclopédie.

1823 Georgia enacted the first state birth registration law in the United States.

1843 Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol novel Ebenezer Scrooge and Norby published with the characters Three Christmas Ghosts.

1860 General Lord Dalhousie, who was the Governor of India from 1848 to 1856, passed away.

1873: Well-known Indian scientist and physician Upendranath Brahmachari was born.

1889 The Bishop Museum, which houses the cultural, religious and traditional heritage of Christianity, is established in Hawaii, Honolulu, USA.

1894 Famous Indian industrialist and businessman Kasturbhai Lalbhai, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan, was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

1897 Martin Luther King Sr., the world famous American leader who fought for human rights, was born.

1907 239 workers died in an explosion in a coal mine at Jacobs Creek in the American state of Pennsylvania.

1915 Marembam Koirang Singh, the first Chief Minister of Manipur, was born.

1919 Om Prakash Chhibber, the famous comedian and character actor of Indian cinema, was born. He is known by the name of Om Prakash. On this day, the Meteorological Society was established in America.

1924 German serial killer Fritz Haarmann is sentenced to death for a series of murders.

1927 Uttar Pradesh Automobile Association was established.

1927 The immortal sons of the Indian freedom struggle, Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Roshan Singh were hanged by the British. Hindustan Republican Association was established under the leadership of Sachindranath Sanyal. Yogeshchandra Chatterjee, Ramprasad Bismil, Sachindranath Bakshi were among the important members of the party. Later Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh also joined the party. The idea of this organization was that for India's independence we would have to take up arms and money was needed to buy arms. The revolutionaries decided to loot the government treasury. On August 9, 1925, some revolutionaries stopped the train going from Saharanpur to Lucknow at Kakori station and took the guard hostage at gunpoint and looted it. The revolutionaries gained a total of Rs 4,601. This audacious incident created a stir in the British government. Many arrests were made. Only 10 people were involved in the incident but the government arrested about 40 people in a month. The verdict was announced on 6 April 1927. Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan, Rajendra Lahiri and Thakur Roshan Singh were sentenced to death. Many people were sentenced to up to 14 years. Two people were released after turning government witnesses. Chandrashekhar Azad escaped the custody of the police. The Indians strongly opposed the decision of hanging but the British did not listen. Rajendra Lahiri was hanged in Gonda jail on 17 December 1927 before the scheduled time. On 19 December 1927, Ramprasad Bismil was hanged in Gorakhpur jail, Ashfaq Ullah Khan in Faizabad jail and Roshan Singh in Allahabad.

1932 British Broadcasting Corporation i.e. BBC started its world service, it is the world's largest radio and television broadcasting service and is run with the money of the British government.

1934 Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, the first woman President of India, was born.
