1875 भारत के प्रमुख स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी, पं. जवाहर लाल नेहरू के सहयोगी और स्वतंत्र भारत के प्रथम गृह मंत्री तथा उप प्रधानमंत्री सरदार वल्लभ पटेल का जन्म नडियाड, गुजरात में हुआ। नरेंद्र मोदी की अगुवाई वाली एनडीए सरकार इस दिन करोड़ों रुपये फूंक कर 2014 से इस दिन को बड़े पैमाने पर राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस या नेशनल यूनिटी डे मनाती है। कट्टर राष्ट्रवाद और संकीर्ण सोच के चलते यह भव्य इवेंट इसलिए आयोजित किया जाता है कि इससे राष्ट्र निर्माण में भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस की भूमिका विस्मृत कराया जाए। जबकि इस दिन लौह महिला कही गई श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी की 1984 में इसी दिन हत्या की गई थी। 2014 से पहले इंदिरा जी की पुण्य तिथि ही चर्चा में रहती थी लेकिन पटेल और राष्ट्रीय एकता के नाम पर फर्जी राष्ट्रवाद को बढ़ावा देते हुए सरकार और सरकार नियंत्रित सभी संस्थाएं, मेनस्ट्रीम मीडिया सरकारी एजेंडे की ही कढ़ी घोटता रहता है।

1889 प्रसिद्ध समाजवादी, विचारक, शिक्षाशास्त्री आचार्य नरेंद्र देव का जन्म हुआ।

1929 विश्व विख्यात इसाई मिशनरी मदर टेरेसा भारत में उपेक्षित और गरीब लोगों की सेवा करने के लिए कलकत्ता पहुंचीं।

1943 भारतीय वैज्ञानिक और इसरो के भूतपूर्व अध्यक्ष जी. माधवन नायर का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन केरल के प्रमुख कांग्रेस राजनेता तथा मुख्यमंत्री हुए ओमन चांडी का जन्म कुमारकोम में हुआ।

1947 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस कमेटी ने भारत और पाकिस्तान के विभाजन का ब्रिटिश सरकार का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार किया।

1950 ब्रिटेन ने चीन की कम्युनिस्ट सरकार को मान्यता प्रदान की। 1949 में महान समाजवादी नेता माओ त्से तुंग के नेतृत्व में चीन में नवजनवादी समाजवादी क्रांति हुई थी। कम्युनिस्टों ने सरकार बनाई।

1953 बेल्जियम में टेलीविजन प्रसारण शुरू हुआ।

1973 आयरिश रिपब्लिकन सेना के सदस्य कैदी माउंटजॉय जेल, डबलिन से एक अपहृत हेलीकॉप्टर पर सवार होकर भाग निकले। यह हेलीकॉप्टर जेल परिसर के अभ्यास यार्ड में उतरा था।

1975 बंगला और हिदी सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार तथा गायक सचिन देव बर्मन का निधन हुआ।

1978 ईरान में तेल कर्मचारियों की हड़ताल शुरू हुई और इसी दिन यमन ने अपना संविधान अंगीकार किया।

1980 टोक्यो, जापान में प्रसिद्ध, लोकप्रिय, अमेरिकी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, मंच परफार्मर और फैशन डिजाइनर हुई समैरे राइस आर्मस्ट्रांग का जन्म हुआ। समैरे राइस स्टे अलाइव, द ओ.सी., इट्स ए बॉय गर्ल थिंग और एबीसी टेलीविजन श्रृंखला, डर्टी सेक्सी मनी में जूलियट डार्लिंग के रूप में अपनी भूमिकाओं के लिए खासतौर पर जानी जाती हैं। वह एबीसी फंतासी-नाटक पुनरुत्थान में एलेन रिचर्ड्स के रूप में टेलीविजन पर दिखाई दीं। इसी दिन सातवें लोक सभा चुनाव में इंदिरा गांधी के नेतृत्व वाली कांग्रेस पार्टी को दो तिहाई बहुमत मिला।

1982 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता, रियलिटी शो कलाकार एवं माॅडल अर्जुन बिजलानी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन पोप जाॅन पॉल द्वितीय स्पेन पहुंचने वाले पहले बिशप बने। इसी दिन बिहार के प्रमुख दलित राजनेता रामविलास पासवान के बेटे अब लोक जनशक्ति पार्टी के अध्यक्ष तथा लोकसभा सदस्य चिराग पासवान का जन्म हुआ।

1983 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी फोटोग्राफर, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता ने एनओएच8 अभियान के संस्थापक एडम बौस्का का जन्म हुआ। एनओएच8 एक धर्मार्थ संगठन है जिसका मिशन शिक्षा, वकालत, सोशल मीडिया के माध्यम से एलजीबीटी विवाह, लिंग और मानव समानता को बढ़ावा देना है। एनओएच8 का मतलब हुआ, नो हेट।

1983 डी सर के नाम से पुकारे जाने वाले जाने माने बाॅडीवुड कोरियोग्राफर, नर्तक, अभिनेता, टेलीविजन कलाकार धर्मेश येलांडे का जन्म वडोदरा, गुजरात में हुआ। इसी दिन आए चुनाव परिणामों के अनुसार भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस को पहली बार आंध्र प्रदेश और कर्नाटक विधानसभा चुनावों में हार मिली।

1984 31 अक्टूबर को प्रातः 9 बजकर 10 मिनट प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी प्रधानमंत्री आवास से बाहर निकलीं, कार्यालय की ओर जा रही थीं। उनका एक सोवियत पत्रकार के साथ साक्षात्कार निर्धारित था।  बीच रास्ते में अचानक वहां तैनात सिक्युरिटी गार्ड बेअंत सिंह ने अपनी रिवॉल्वर निकाली और इंदिरा गांधी पर फायर किया। गोली उनके पेट पर लगी। इसके बाद बेअंत ने दो और फायर किए। बेअंत सिंह ने 5 फीट की दूरी पर ही खड़े अपने सहकर्मी सुरक्षा गार्ड सतवंत सिंह से चिल्लाकर कहा, गोली चलाओ। सतवंत ने अपनी ऑटोमैटिक कार्बाइन की सभी 25 गोलियां इंदिरा गांधी के ऊपर झोंक दीं। दोनों की 28 गोलियों से इंदिरा गांधी का शरीर क्षत-विक्षत हो गया। बेअंत सिंह को उसी वक्त वहां मौजूद सुरक्षाकर्मियों ने मार दिया। सतवंत सिंह को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। इस पूरी साजिश में केहर सिंह भी था। इंदिरा गांधी के हत्यारे उनसे ऑपरेशन ब्लू स्टार का बदला लेना चाहते थे। अमृतसर के स्वर्ण मंदिर में हुए ऑपरेशन ब्लू स्टार में हजारों लोग मारे गए थे। गोली मारे जाने के 4 घंटे बाद दोपहर 2 बजे इंदिरा गांधी को मृत घोषित कर दिया गया। उत्तर भारत को दहलाने वाले खूनी खालिस्तानी आंदोलन को समाप्त करने के लिए इंदिरा गांधी ने सर्वोच्च खालिस्तानी कमांडर जरनैल सिंह भिंडरावाले के खात्मे के लिए स्वर्ण मंदिर में फौज उतारी थी। करीब 5 साल तक मुकदमा चलने के बाद इंदिरा गांधी के बचे दो हत्यारों सतवंत सिंह और केहर सिंह को 6 जनवरी 1989 को तिहाड़ जेल में फांसी की दे दी गई। सतवंत सिंह हिंसक प्रवृत्ति का था, जबकि केहर सिंह शांत रहता था। फांसी के बाद दोनों के शव परिवारवालों को भी नहीं दिए गए और जेल प्रशासन ने ही उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया।

1986 लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बांग्ला फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल पारनो मित्र का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन मलयालम सिनेमा की जानी मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री संव्रिता सुनील का जन्म कन्नूर में हुआ।

1988 रोमानियाई मूल के प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अभिनेता, निर्माता और पटकथा लेखक जॉन हाउसमैन का निधन हुआ।

1989 तुर्गत ओजल तुर्की के राष्ट्रपति चुने गये। इसी दिन जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड तमिल फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल रश्मि मेनन का जन्म हुआ।

1996 रासायनिक अस्त्र प्रतिबंध संधि को लागू करने के लिए आवश्यक 65 देशों की मंजूरी मिली।

1998 प्रसिद्ध स्पेनिश नन और संत (रोमन कैथोलिक चर्च) मारिया डे ला पुरीसिमा साल्वेट रोमेरो का निधन हुआ।

1999 अटलांटिक महासागर में मिस्र के एएएआर फ्लाइट 990 विमान के गिर जाने से विमान में सवार सभी 217 लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2002 ह्यूस्टन, टेक्सास में एक संघीय ग्रैंड जूरी ने एनरॉन बिजली कंपनी के पूर्व मुख्य वित्तीय अधिकारी एंड्रयू फास्टो को अपने पूर्व-नियोक्ता के पतन से संबंधित वायर धोखाधड़ी, मनी लॉन्ड्रिंग, साजिश और न्याय में बाधा डालने के 78 मामलों में दोषी ठहराया। एनरॉन बिजली कंपनी की इकाई भारत में महाराष्ट्र में भी बाल ठाकरे के राज में स्थापित हुई थी। बाद में यह बर्बाद हो गई।

2003 हैदराबाद में आयोजित अफ्रोएशियन हॉकी चैम्पियनशिप में भारत ने पाकिस्तान को 3-1 से हराकर स्वर्ण प्राप्त किया। मलेशियाई प्रधानमंत्री महाथिर मुहम्मद के 22 वर्ष लंबे शासन का अंत 2003 में इसी दिन हुआ।

2004 फालुजा में अमेरिका ने हवाई हमला किया।

2005 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय पंजाबी एवं हिंदी लेखिका अमृता प्रीतम का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन फिलिस्तीन और इस्रायल हिंसा न करने पर सहमत हुए। इसी दिन रूस ने वोल्कर रिपोर्ट के पीछे जोड़-तोड़ का संदेह जताया। इसी दिन चीन और नेपाल सीमा के संयुक्त निरीक्षण पर सहमत हुए।

2006 श्रीलंका सरकार ने तमिल विद्रोहियों पर जाफना प्रायःद्वीप में जवानों पर गोलीबारी करने का आरोप लगाया। पीडब्ल्यू बोथा के नाम से सुपरिचित नेशनल पार्टी के नेता और दक्षिण अफ्रीका के राष्ट्रपति रहे पीटर विलियम बोथा का वाइल्डरनेस में निधन हुआ।

2007 उत्तर प्रदेश हिंदी संस्थान की ओर से साहित्य के क्षेत्र में दिए जाने वाले वार्षिक पुरस्कारों के तहत 2007 का भारत भारती सम्मान केदारनाथ सिंह को प्रदान करने का ऐलान हुआ।

2008 भारत में 6 से 14 वर्ष की आयु के बच्चे को मुप्त और अनिवार्य शिक्षा मुहैया कराने विषयक विधेयक को केंदीय मंत्रीमण्डल ने मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन चीन में राज्य मीडिया ने बताया है कि विषाक्त रासायनिक मेलामाइन को संभवतः चीनी पशु आहार में मिलाया जा रहा है, क्योंकि अब दूषित दूध और अंडे में मेलामाइन पाया गया है। इसका उपयोग गुणवत्ता निरीक्षणों के लिए प्रोटीन गणना को बनाए रखते हुए उत्पादन लागत को कम करने के लिए किया जाता है,

2010 नई दिल्ली में यमुना बैंक आनंद विहार सेक्शन की मेट्रो रेलों का परिचालन शुरू हुआ।

2011 संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने जानकारी दी कि दुनिया की आबादी सात अरब हो गई है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने इसे सात अरब दिवस घोषित किया।

2012 सीरिया की राजधानी दमिश्क में आत्मघाती हमले में 26 लोगों की मौत हुई और 63 घायल हुए।

2014 संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने पहला विश्व शहर दिवस आयोजित किया। दुनिया के राष्ट्रों, संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रणाली, विशेष रूप से यूएन-हैबिटेट, प्रासंगिक अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगठनों, नागरिक समाज और अन्य संबंधित हितधारकों को इस दिन को मनाने और जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए आह्वान किया गया। 31 अक्टूबर को वर्ल्ड सीटीज डे की स्थापना हेतु 27 दिसंबर 2013 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने अपने संकल्प ए/आरईएस/68/239 के जरिये की थी।

2015 रूसी विमानन सेवा कोगलीमाविया का विमान 9268 के उत्तरी सिनाई में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से विमान में सवार सभी 224 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2017 न्यूयॉर्क शहर के लोअर मैनहट्टन में एक ट्रक भीड़ पर चढ़ गया जिससे आठ लोगों की मौत हो गई और कई अन्य घायल हो गये।

2020 पुरुषों के साथ बलात्कार करने वाले इंडोनेशियाई नागरिक रिनहार्ड सिनागा को ब्रिटेन की अदालत ने उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई। एमएफ डूम के नाम से सुप्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश-अमेरिकी रैपर और रिकॉर्ड निर्माता, अपने जटिल वर्डप्ले, सिग्नेचर मेटल मास्क और सुपरविलेन स्टेज व्यक्तित्व के लिए लोकप्रिय, 2000 के दशक में भूमिगत हिप हॉप और वैकल्पिक हिप हॉप के एक प्रमुख व्यक्ति रहे डैनियल डुमिले का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन 2020 में निर्माण संबंधी मुद्दों और परियोजना में भ्रष्टाचार के कारण लगभग 10 के गतिरोध के बाद बर्लिन ब्रैंडेनबर्ग हवाई अड्डे को आधिकारिक रूप से खोला गया।

2022 तेलंगाना के मुख्यमंत्री के. चंद्रशेखर राव केसीआर ने आरोप लगाया कि भाजपा राज्य में सत्तारूढ़ टीआरएस के 20-30 विधायकों को खरीदने और उनकी सरकार गिराने की कोशिश कर रही है। केसीआर ने दावा किया कि दिल्ली के दलालों ने मौजूदा विधायकों को 100-100 करोड़ रुपये की पेशकश की। मुनुगोड़े विधानसभा सीट पर उपचुनाव में एक चुनावी रैली को संबोधित करते हुए राव ने तेलंगाना राष्ट्र समिति (टीआरएस) के विधायकों के मामले का जिक्र किया। उन्होंने कहा कि दिल्ली से दलाल आए और प्रत्येक (विधायक) को 100 करोड़ रुपये की पेशकश करके विधायकों को रिश्वत देने का प्रयास किया। हालांकि, असली भूमि पुत्र विधायकों ने इस प्रस्ताव को ठुकरा दिया। के. चंद्रशेखर राव का यह बयान टीआरएस के चार विधायकों को प्रलोभन देने की कोशिश करने वाले तीन लोगों को गिरफ्तार कर न्यायिक हिरासत में भेजे जाने के एक दिन बाद आया है। राव ने चारों विधायकों को जनसभा में परेड कराते हुए कहा कि राजनीति में ऐसे लोगों की जरूरत है। राव ने कहा कि वे खुले बाजार में मवेशी की खरीद-फरोख्त के समान विधायकों को खरीदना चाहते थे। राव ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी से जवाब मांगा कि क्या ऐसी चीजें समाज के लिए अच्छी हैं। राव ने कहा कि किसने 100 करोड़ रुपये प्रदान किए जो विधायकों को दिए जाने थे? इस पर जांच होनी है। इन सबके पीछे कौन है? क्या वे (जो इस मुद्दे के मास्टरमाइंड हैं) अपने-अपने पदों पर बने रहने के हकदार हैं?
