63 ईसा पूर्व 23 सितंबर को रोमन साम्राज्य के संस्थापक सीजर ऑगस्टस (ऑक्टेवियन) का जन्म पालाटाइन हिल, रोम, इटली में जन्म हुआ। ऑगस्टस ने 27 ईसा पूर्व से 14 ई.पू. अपनी मृत्यु तक पहले रोमन सम्राट के रूप में शासन किया।

38 ईस्वी में 23 सितंबर 38 को जूलियो क्लाउडियन राजवंश के रोमन शासक हुए गयुस सीजर ऑगस्टस जर्मेनिकस कैलीगुला की बहन जूलिया ड्रूसिला को मरणोपरांत देवी घोषित किया गया।

1122 पोप कैलिक्स्टस द्वितीय और रोमन सम्राट हेनरी पंचम ने अलंकरण विवाद को समाप्त करने के लिए वर्म्स के कॉनकॉर्डैट (एक नियमावली) पर सहमत हुए।

1338 अर्नेमुइडेन की लड़ाई में फ्रांसीसी सेना ने अंग्रेजों को हराया। यह सौ साल के युद्ध की पहली नौसैनिक लड़ाई जिसमें बारूद तोप का उपयोग किया गया।

1917 विज्ञान में डाॅक्टरेट की उपाधि हासिल करने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला रसायनशास्त्री असीमा चटर्जी का जन्म हुआ।

1932 नेज्ड और हेजाज के साम्राज्य ने अल-हसा और कातिफ के साथ विलय कर सऊदी अरब राज्य का निर्माण किया। इब्न सऊद पहले शासक बने और रियाद को राजधानी बनाया।

1935 विख्यात और कुख्यात हिंदी एवं पंजाबी फिल्म अभिनेता प्रेम चोपड़ा का जन्म लाहौर, पाकिस्तान में हुआ। उन्होंने खलनायक के रूप में खास पहचान बनाई।

1939 चिंतन के क्षेत्र में विश्वविख्यात आॅस्ट्रेलियन मनोवैज्ञानिक सिगमंड फ्रायड का लंदन में देहांत हुआ। दुनिया मुख्य रूप से तीन लोगों के विचारों से प्रभावित है। सिग्मंड फ्रायड मनोवैज्ञानिक, कार्ल माक्र्स समाजवादी दार्शनिक और अल्बर्ट आइंस्टीन वैज्ञानिक। यह तीनों लोग जर्मनी के थे। उनके दो प्रसिद्ध कथन- 1. ज्यादातर लोग वास्तव में स्वतंत्रता नहीं चाहते, क्योंकि स्वतंत्रता के साथ जिम्मेदारी आ जाती है, और ज्यादातर लोग जिम्मेदारी से डरते हैं। 2. मनुष्य जितना सोचता है उससे कहीं ज्यादा नैतिक है, और वो इतना अनैतिक है कि वो उसकी कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकता।

1943 सुविख्यात हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री शोभना समर्थ की बेटी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल तनुजा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1965 गुजरात के राजपिपला राजघराने के राजकुमार मानवेंद्र सिंह गोहिल का जन्म हुआ। यह समलैंगिक राजकुमार हैं और समलैंगिकों के अधिकारों के पैरोकार हैं। इसी दिन भारतीय संगीत राॅक, पाॅप बैंड यूफोरिया के संस्थापक गायक, गीतकार और संगीतकार पलाश सेन का जन्म हुआ।

1977 जाने माने बांग्ला फिल्मकार श्रीजीत मुखर्जी का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1879 रिचर्ड रोड्स ने सुनने में मदद करने वाली शुरूआती मशीन बनाई, इसे आडियोफोन नाम दिया गया.

1929 ब्रिटिश कालीन भारत में बाल विवाह निरोधक विधेयक शारदा कानून पारित हुआ।

1955 पाकिस्तान ने बगदाद समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1958 ब्रिटेन ने क्रिसमस द्वीप पर वायुमंडलीय परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1976 ब्रितानी नौ सेना के एक युद्धक जहाज में घटी दुर्घटना में आठ लोग मारे गए। इंग्लैंड के उतर पूर्व में बने एचएमएस ग्लासगो नाम का यह जहाज समुद्र में अपना परीक्षण शुरू करने वाला था।

1979 सोमालिया के संविधान को राष्ट्रपति ने मंजूरी दी।

1983 गल्फ एयर का एक यात्री जहाज पकिस्तान के कराची हवाई अड्डे से उड़ा जिसमें सवार अधिकतर यात्री पाकिस्तानी थे। संयुक्त अरब अमीरात के अबू धाबी और दुबई के बीच इस हवाई जहाज में रखे सामान में विस्फोट हो गया जिससे तमाम लोग मारे गये।

1985 हिंदी टेलीविजन धारावाहिकों की जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री और माॅडल नेहा मर्दा का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने क्रिकेटर अंबाती रायुडू का जन्म गुंटूर, कर्नाटक में हुआ।

1986 अमेरिकी कांग्रेस गुलाब को अमेरिका का राष्ट्रीय फूल मानने पर सहमत हुई।

1987 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड गायक राहुल वैद्य का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ।

1992 फेमिना मिस इंडिया वर्ल्ड 2013, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नवनीत कौर ढिल्लों का जन्म अंबाला, हरियाणा में हुआ। इसी दिन भारत के दूसरे मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त हुए के. वी. के. सुंदरम का निधन हुआ।

1993 हिंदी और दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की जानी मानी अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल शालिनी पांडेय का जन्म जबलपुर में हुआ।

1995 ताबा मिस्र में इस्रायल एवं फिलिस्तीनी मुक्ति संगठन के मध्य पश्चिमी तट पर फिलिस्तीनी स्वशासन के संबंध में समझौता हुआ।

2018 वर्ल्ड फेडरेशन ऑफ डेफ के प्रस्ताव की स्वीकृति के बाद संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की अगुवाई में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सांकेतिक भाषा दिवस पहली बार वैश्विक पैमाने पर बधिरों के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सप्ताह के भाग के रूप में मनाया गया।

2021 दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने भारतीय टेबल टेनिस महासंघ टीटीएफआई के आगामी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रतियोगिताओं में चयन के लिये राष्ट्रीय अभ्यास शिविर में अनिवार्य उपस्थिति के फैसले पर बृहस्पतिवार को रोक लगा दी और केंद्र से इस खेल संस्था के खिलाफ मनिका बत्रा की शिकायत पर जांच करने करने को कहा। जस्टिस रेखा पल्ली ने आगे कहा कि यदि जरूरी हुआ तो केंद्रीय खेल मंत्रालय टीटीएफआई के कार्यों की जांच कर सकता है। जस्टिस पल्ली ने जानी-मानी टेबल टेनिस खिलाड़ी मनिका बत्रा की एक याचिका पर सुनवाई करने के बाद उक्त आदेश दिया जिसमें मनिका को आगामी एशियाई टेबल टेनिस चैंपियनशिप के लिए भारतीय टीम से बाहर कर दिया गया था। मनिका बत्रा ने आरोप लगाया है कि राष्ट्रीय कोच सौम्यदीप राय ने ओलंपिक क्वालीफायर के दौरान एक मैच गंवाने के लिये उन पर दबाव डाला था।

2021 विश्व प्रसिद्ध इतालवी स्पोर्ट्स कार रेसिंग और फॉर्मूला वन ड्राइवर नीनो वैकेरेला का पालेर्मो, सिसिली, इटली में निधन हुआ। उनकी प्रमुख उपलब्धियों में 1964 24 आवर्स ऑफ ले मैन्स और 1965, 1971 और 1975 में टार्गा फ्लोरियो जीतना शामिल है।
