189 में 22 सितंबर को चीनी सैन्य जनरल, राजनीतिज्ञ, पूर्वी हान राजवंश के सैन्य ग्रैंड मार्शल और रीजेंट, महारानी हे के बड़े सौतेले भाई और सम्राट शाओ के मामा हे जिन(सुइगाओ) का निधन हुआ।

904 एक विद्रोही सरदार झू क्वानझोंग ने तांग राजशाही सरकार पर नियंत्रण कर तांग राजवंश के सम्राट झाओजोंग की हत्या कर दी।

1013 राजा बेला प्रथम से विवाह के बाद हंगरी की रानी बनीं पोलैंड की रिचेजा का क्रैकोव, पोलैंड में जन्म हुआ।

1211 इराक के इर्बिट में अहमद बिन मुहम्मद बिन इब्राहिम बिन अबू बक्र इब्न खल्लिकन (इब्न खल्लिकन) का जन्म हुआ। इब्न खल्लिकन प्रसिद्ध इस्लामी इतिहासकार, मुस्लिम विद्वानों और मुस्लिम इतिहास के महत्वपूर्ण व्यक्तियों की प्रसिद्ध जीवनी विश्वकोश, प्रख्यात पुरुषों की मृत्यु और इस्लामी इतिहास की महत्वपूर्ण जानकारियों के संकलनकर्ता थे।

1236 साउले की लड़ाई में समोगिटियंस ने लिवोनियन ब्रदर्स को हराया।

1539 सिख धर्म के प्रवर्तक गुरु नानक देव का करतारपुर में निधन हो गया। रावी नदी के पास पाकिस्तान स्थित इस जगह को अब डेरा बाबा नानक के नाम से जाना जाता है। पाकिस्तान के करतारपुर में तीन साल पहले इमरान खान सरकार ने गुरुद्वारा दरबार साहिब को भव्यता प्रदान की और श्रद्धालुओं के आने-जाने के लिए सुविधाएं बढ़ाई हैं। नानक का जन्म 15 अप्रैल 1469 को ननकाना साहिब पाकिस्तान में हुआ। वैसे इनका जन्म दिन गुरुपूरब या गुरुपर्व के नाम से कार्तिक पूर्णिमा को मनाया जाता है जो अक्टूबर या नवंबर महीने में होती है।

1599 इंग्लैंड की ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की स्थापना भारत के साथ कारोबार के लिए की गई थी, लेकिन भारत में धन धान्य की प्रचुरता थी। सैकड़ों छोटे-बड़े राज्य थे। यहां राजा-महाराजाओं की की आपस की लड़ाई और कोई मजबूत नेतृत्व की कमी के कारण कंपनी की साम्राज्यवादी आकांक्षाएं जाग गईं और उसने भारत का इतिहास और भूगोल सब बदलकर रख दिया। ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के निर्माण में 22 सितंबर का एक खास महत्व है। 1599 में वह 22 सितंबर का दिन था जब लंदन में 21 कारोबारियों की एक बैठक हुई थी। बैठक में भारत के साथ कारोबार करने के लिए एक कंपनी के गठन पर विचार किया गया। इसे ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की स्थापना की दिशा में पहला कदम कहा जा सकता है। आगे कंपनी बनी, राजशाही की मंजूरी मिली और बाद में धीरे-धीरे कब्जे और लूट का सिलसिला प्रारंभ हुआ। मालूम हो कि 1492 में कोलंबस द्वारा खोजे गये अमेरिका में भी यूरोपीय देशों ने खूब लूट मचाई, करोड़ों स्थानीय लोगों रेड इंडियंस का सफाया कर दिया और करोड़ों को गुलाम बनाकर मुनाफा कमाया। 

1711 फ्रांसीसी सैनिकों ने ब्राजील के शहर रियो डी जनेरियो पर कब्जा किया।

1735 ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री के सरकारी आवास 10 डाउनिंग स्ट्रीट पर निवास करने वाले पहले प्रधानमंत्री रॉबर्ट वाल्पोल बने।

1761 इंग्लैंड के राजा जॉर्ज तृतीय और रानी चार्लोट का राज्याभिषेक हुआ।

1776 कैप्टन नाथन हेल नामक अमेरिकी क्रांतिकारी को ब्रिटिश सेना ने फांसी दी।

1789 अमेरिकी कांग्रेस ने पोस्टमास्टर जनरल के कार्यालय को अधिकृत किया।

1791 भौतिक विज्ञानी और रसासनशास्त्री माइकल फैराडे का निधन हुआ था। माइकेल फैराडे, भौतिक विज्ञानी एवं रसायनज्ञ थे। उन्होंने विद्युत-धारा के चुंबकीय प्रभाव का आविष्कार किया। फैराडे ने विद्युत चुंबकीय प्रेरण का अध्ययन करके उसको नियमबद्ध किया। इससे डायनेमो तथा विद्युत मोटर का निर्माण हुआ। बाद में मैक्सवेल के विद्युत चुंबकत्व के चार समीकरणों में फैराडे का यह नियम भी सम्मिलित हुआ। फैराडे ने विद्युत रसायन पर भी बहुत काम किया और इससे संबंधित अपने दो नियम दिये। उन्होंने डीजल के खोजी रुडोल्फ के साथ डीजल-चलित बिजली उत्पादक का आविष्कार किया था। फैराडे ने अनेक आविष्कार किये।

1792 फ्रांस गणराज्य की स्थापना की घोषणा हुई।

1832 सुलतान महमूद द्वितीय ने मुहम्मद सैद आगा को हटाकर कासिम अल अहमद को यरूशलेम (कुडुस) का नया तुर्क राज्यपाल (मतुल्लाम) नियुक्त किया।

1853 रामकृष्ण परमहंस की पत्नी शारदा देवी का जन्म हुआ।

1862 राष्ट्रपति अब्राहम लिंकन ने अगले साल 1 जनवरी को सभी राज्यों के गुलामों को मुक्त करने का आदेश दिया।

1869 ब्रिटिश शासित भारत में सरकार के लिए काम करने वाले सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता वीएस श्रीनिवास शास्त्री का जन्म हुआ।

1887 महाराष्ट्र के कोल्हापुर जिले के कुंभोज गांव में भाऊराव पाटिल का जन्म हुआ। यह समाज के शोषितों, वंचितों, गरीबों में शिक्षा के प्रसार के लिए जाने जाते हैं। इन्होंने रैयत एजुकेशन सोसाइटी गठित की।

1896 महारानी विक्टोरिया ब्रिटिश इतिहास में सबसे लंबे समय तक राज करने वाली महारानी के मामले में अपने दादा किंग जॉर्ज तृतीय से आगे निकल गईं।

1903 अमेरिकी नागरिक इटालो मार्चिओनी को आइसक्रीम कोन के लिए न्यू याॅर्क में पेटेंट प्रदान किया गया।

1914 मद्रास बंदरगाह पर जर्मन युद्धपोत इम्देन ने बमबारी की।

1919 अमलगमेटेड एसोसिएशन ऑफ आयरन एंड स्टील वर्कर्स के नेतृत्व में 1919 की स्टील हड़ताल संयुक्त राज्य भर में फैलने से पहले पेंसिल्वेनिया में शुरू हुई।

1922 चीन के विख्यात भौतिकीविद, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता चेन निंग यांग का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन फिलिस्तीन के जनादेश को संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद द्वारा मंजूरी दी गई।

1941 यूक्रेन में नरसंहार के सिलसिले में यहूदी नव वर्ष दिवस पर एडोल्फ हिटलर की जर्मन एसएस फौज ने यूक्रेन के विन्नित्सिया में 6,000 यहूदियों की हत्या कर दी। ये कुछ दिन पहले हुई पिछली हत्याओं के बचे हुए लोग थे। कुल जमा 24,000 यहूदियों को मार डाला गया था।

1949 सोवियत संघ ने पहला परमाणु बम का सफलतापूर्वक परीक्षण किया।

1942 पाकिस्तान के प्रमुख तकनीकिविद, वैज्ञानिक और आॅर्गेनिक कैमिस्ट अता-उर-रहमान का जन्म पुरानी दिल्ली में हुआ।

1950 भारत के सिक्किम राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री तथा राजनीतिक दल सिक्किम डेमोक्रेटिक फ्रंट के संस्थापक पवन कुमार चामलिंग का जन्म हुआ।

1951 भारतीय अमीर कारोबारी, राजनीतिज्ञ, भाजपा के राज्य सभा सदस्य और भारत की प्रमुख प्राइवेट सुरक्षा, खुफिया संस्था एसआईएस यानी सिक्योरिटी एंड इंटेलिजेंस सर्विस के संस्थापक रविंद्र किशोर सिन्हा का जन्म हुआ।

1955 ब्रिटेन में टेलीविजन का ्रव्यावसायिक प्रसारण शुरू हुआ। इसमें प्रत्येक घंटे सिर्फ छह मिनट ही विज्ञापन के प्रसारण की अनुमति दी गयी और रविवार सुबह विज्ञापन न चलाने की व्यवस्था दी। आईटीवी को यूनाइटेड किंगडम में पहले वाणिज्यिक टेलीविजन नेटवर्क के रूप में स्थापित किया गया।

1961 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जॉन फिटजेराल्ड कैनेडी ने शांति कोर की स्थापना के लिये कांग्रेस के अधिनियम पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1965 संयुक्त राष्ट्र के युद्धविराम के आह्वान के बाद कश्मीर को लेकर भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच हुआ 1965 का भारत-पाकिस्तान युद्ध समाप्त हुआ।

1966 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा का यान सर्वेयर 2 चंद्रमा की सतह से टकराया।

1977 अमेरिकी फुटबॉल टीम फुटबाॅल का काला हीरा कहे जाने वाले ब्राजीलियन फुटबाॅलर पेले Pelé Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Black Pearl of Football) Brazil) के नेतृत्व में दो प्रदर्शनी मैच खेलने कलकत्ता (अब कोलकाता) पहुंची।

1979 पाकिस्तान में जमियत ए इस्लाम के संस्थापक मौलाना अब्दुल अली मौदूदी का निधन हुआ। वे इस्लामिक मामलों के विश्व प्रसिद्ध विद्वान हुए।

1980 ईरान और इराक के बीच जारी सीमा संघर्ष युद्ध के रूप में परिवर्तित हुआ।

1981 जानी मानी बोल्ड, खूबसूरत टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल राजश्री ठाकुर का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1983 कर्नाटक सिनेमा की लोकप्रिय गायिका, संगीतज्ञ, टेलीविजन प्रोग्राम प्रस्तोता और ग्लैमर, अभिनय, मनोरंजन जगत से जुड़ी अन्य गतिविधियों में संलग्न रिमी टाॅमी का जन्म हुआ।

1984 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल रिद्धि डोगरा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1986 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड हिंदी फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल मेहर विज का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। 

1987 मलयालम सिनेमा के लोकप्रिय अभिनेता उन्नी मुकुंदन का जन्म त्रिसूर में हुआ।

1988 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सना सईद का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन नेशनल ज्योग्राफिक मैगजीन का प्रकाशन शुरू हुआ। 1988 में इसी दिन कनाडा की सरकार ने द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जापान और कनाडा के नागरिकों की नजरबंदी के लिए माफी मांगी और मुआवजा देने का भी वादा किया।

1991 हिंदी व मराठी फिल्मों की प्रसिद्ध चरित्र अभिनेत्री, खास तौर पर मां के रोल में लोकप्रिय रहीं दुर्गा खोटे का निधन हुआ।

1992 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने बोस्निया और हर्जेगोविना के बीच युद्ध में भूमिका के लिए यूगोस्लाविया की सदस्या समाप्त कर दी। 2002 में इसी दिन फ्रांस ने आइवरी कोस्ट में अपनी सेना भेजी।

1993 अलबामा के पास एक रेल पुल पर एक बजरा टकराया जिससे घातक रेल दुर्घटना हुई, सैंतालीस यात्री मारे गये।

1993 जॉर्जिया के सुखुमी में एक ट्रांसएयर जॉर्जियाई एयरलाइंस टीयू-154 को मिसाइल से मार गिराया गया।

1995 उड़ान भरने के तुरंत बाद चार में से दो इंजनों से कई पक्षियों के टकराने के बाद एक एल्मेंडोर्फ एयर फोर्स बेस विमान अलास्का के बाहर दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया। जहाज पर सवार सभी 24 लोग मारे गए।

1995 श्रीलंका वायु सेना द्वारा नागरकोविल स्कूल में की गई बमबारी 34 लोग मारे गए, जिनमें तमिल स्कूली बच्चे थे।

1996 अपनी हिम्मत से कैंसर से जीवन की जंग जीतने की कोशिश करने वाली कनाडा की मेलिंडा रोज की याद में कैंसर कल्याण दिवस या विश्व गुलाब दिवस 22 सितंबर को मनाया गया। इस दिन कैंसर रोगियों को गुलाब का फूल भेंटकर उनके स्वस्थ होने की कामना की जाती है। कैंसर रोगी को इससे खुशी मिलती है और उसकी कैंसर से जंग कुछ लंबी खिंच जाती है।

2006 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन के कंस्ट्रक्शन मिशन पर गये अटलांटिस स्पेश क्राफ्ट सकुशल अमेरिका के केनेडी स्पेस सेंटर पर उतरा। इसी दिन 2006 में भारतीय नेशनल कैडिट कोर का 10 सदस्यीय दल मॉस्को के लिए रवाना हुआ।

2007 ईरान ने 1800 किलोमीटर की मारक क्षमता वाली मिसाइल धद्र का प्रदर्शन किया। 2007 में इसी दिन अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नेशनल एयरोनाॅटिक्स स्पेस एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन नासा के एअर क्राफ्ट ने मंगल ग्रह पर गुफाओं जैसी सात आकृतियों का पता लगाया।

2008 प्रधानमंत्री डॉ.मनमोहन सिंह अमेरिका और फ्रांस की दस दिवसीय यात्रा पर रवाना हुए।

2011 गैंडों के संरक्षण के निमित्त दक्षिण अफ्रीका में गैंडा दिवस मनाया गया। तब से हर साल दुनिया भर में 22 सितंबर को विश्व गैंडा दिवस मनाया जाता है। भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के कप्तान और पटौदी के नवाब मंसूर अली खान पटौदी का निधन हुआ। मंसूर पटौदी रियासत के नौवें नवाब थे। उनका विवाह 27 दिसम्बर 1969 को प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री शर्मिला टैगोर से हुआ। उनकी तीन संतानें हैं, सैफ अली खान, सोहा अली खान और सबा अली खान हैं। 2011 में इसी दिन भारतीय योजना आयोग ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट में दाखिल हलफनामे में शहरों में 965 रुपये और गावों में 781 रुपये प्रति महीना खर्च करने वाले व्यक्ति को गरीब मानने से इंकार किया।

2012 ऑस्ट्रेलिया के राज्य विक्टोरिया में रोमन कैथोलिक चर्च ने एक शर्मनाक स्वीकारोक्ति की कि 1930 के दशक से पुजारियों द्वारा 600 से अधिक बच्चों का यौन शोषण किया गया।

2013 पाकिस्तान के पेशावर में एक ईसाई चर्च में आत्मघाती बम विस्फोट में कम से कम 75 लोग मारे गये।

2014 संयुक्त राष्ट्र के जलवायु प्रदर्शन पर सम्मेलन से एक दिन पूर्व अमेरिकी पूंजीवाद विरोधी प्रदर्शनकारियों ने वॉल स्ट्रीट पर जाम लगाया। वे जलवायु परिवर्तन पर आवश्यक कार्रवाई की मांग कर रहे थे।
